I think Alone With God is a good organizational tool. I don't believe Jason Janz tried setting it up to be some check list for devotions or to try to make someone feel more spiritaul by completing "check lists". Its just a way to organize what you already do every day: Reading God's Word and praying. The disciples even asked Crhrist to "Teach them how to pray". I think once people have the right outlook on devotions (Getting to know God better) that Alone With God becomes a useful tool.

Dr. Baxter's book, Going Deeper, was used of God early in my adult life. The Lord, using the first half of that book, for several months "turned me every way but loose" (as my father and mother would say). I only met him twice and the second time the Lord used him again in regards to my future course and "walk of faith" (as the Apostle Paul would say).
The Master Theme of the Bible, is focused on Christ as the lamb in the Old Testament and on Jesus the Christ as the lamb in the New Testament. As such the former has to do with 'the mystery of Christ' Colossians. 4:3, and the latter has to do with 'I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus...for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.' Revelation 19:10 It is more than a great book!

As missionary in Indonesia I started to use it for systematical teaching - GREAT for giving insight in God's eternal plan and purpose as well as for getting folks excited about the Bible.

Interesting website. My biggest objections to Shore's book have to do with the call for Christians to love at the expense of evangelism, and the cavalier way he treats his subject. The question that arises is, "Are you really serious about your premise?" If so, why couch it in page after page of bad stabs at humor?

Comment on Evil and the Justice of God | N. T. Wright by Josh

From the review, it appears that this book has Wright's characteristic strengths: return Christians to the biblical narrative; warn Christians against too-easy answers; emphasize the political dimensions of Christ's work.

But once Bishop Wright starts making application, he fails to offer anything new, instead baptizing left-wing politics (condemnations of President George W. Bush, advocation of debt cancellation). Wright is correct that the Bible has political implications, but his failure to understand economics and politics (American politics in particular) results in marginally useful application of his carefully-thought-out theology.

If only Bishop Wright would stick with what he's good at (New Testament studies) and leave economics &c. to others.
