The PCS 89 & 93 Fund is in full swing!!! Thanks to the initiative of Mr. Froilan Mendoza and his mom (who was a huge help in the interview process- Thank you very much po!!!). After several online chats (na inaabot ng madaling araw because of different time zones) with the members of the committee and meetings with the guidance office of PCS elementary department, we are pleased to introduce to you the first ever scholar of PCSians 89 and 93- Raymart H. Recto.

Born on August 23, 2001, he's the 2nd of 5 children of Mr. Rommel Recto, a messenger from Metrobank, and Mrs. Mirasol Recto, a housewife. He's a transferee from East Rembo Elementary School where he studied 1st and 2nd grade. Raymart passed the exams given by the PCS Bishop San Diego Scholarship Foundation, the scholarship fund of PCS. He studied at PCS for his third grade with a scholarship grant from the said foundation. Now an incoming grade 4 student, our batch, thru the PCS 89 & 93 Fund, will sponsor his full tuition fee for the year. Last March 29, 2011, Ariel Jalova, Augustus Castaneda and Archie Esguerra met with the family of Raymart in their home at 175-H 23rd ave., East Rembo, Makati City, to formally announce to them the good news.

The PCS 89 and 93 Fund was founded to unite all of us and to give back to our community in our own small way. Your contributions can also come in none-monetary pledges. Ariel Jalova has initiated a visit to Raymart at least once a month to help him with his studies and we encourage everyone to help out. Aside from the scholarship that we will give, we also want to give mentoring/guidance to him. We would like to treat Raymart as our batch’s adopted son and we would appreciate any help you could offer.

What is covered by the scholarship?
The entire school year’s Tuition and Fees (which includes labs, uniform, and other education-related expenses), books and a monthly stipend to be paid directly to the school as food and coop expenses.

Is the scholarship offered on a one-time basis?
Scholars have to maintain exemplary grades and demonstrate continuous financial need to be eligible for the scholarship. The FUND will provide scholarship and assistance up 4th Year High School as long as both the educational and financial requirements are met. Although current scholars do not have to re-apply, they are subject for yearly review by the scholarship committee.

Do you offer partial scholarships?
Not at the moment.

How many scholarships are offered?
For school year 2011-2012, one/two deserving applicant/s will be provided scholarship. As the FUND’s resources grow, we will continue to award scholarships on a rolling basis.

How do we contact the scholarship committee?
To maintain fairness, you do not have to contact any member of the committee. Ensure that you submit all pertinent documentation, with particular focus on the personal essay, and you will be contacted if you are shortlisted.

How do I contribute?
First, thank you! Although you can contribute as your means allow, we encourage and appreciate your recurring contributions. PCS 89 93 Fund Details

The PCS89-93 Fund (FUND) is a non-profit group which aims to sponsor deserving PCS Grade School students. Its mission is to provide full scholarship that covers tuition,school, book and other education-related fees, in addition to monthly stipend, to qualified merit and financial scholars.

Who are qualified: All eligible, incoming Grade 5 PCS students with a (grade point) average of 85 or above, with no grade lower than 85, and who demonstrate financial need (PHP 120,000/year combined family income) may apply.

How to apply: Applicants should submit the Application Form, together with previous year’s validated/official Report Card; a certification/tax report of parents/guardian supporting the child; an essay describing the applicant’s qualification and educational goals. While not required, recommendation letters from PCS teachers can be submitted in support of the application.

You may send your application to info@pcs8993fund.org or you may drop them off at the school’s Guidance Office (c/o Ms. Manosca).

Deadline in submitting applications is March 31, 2011.

What is the qualification process: Applications will be reviewed by the ‘scholarship committee’ based on the student’s academic aptitude, goals and the parents’ financial status. Short-listed applicants will meet with representatives of the FUND for an interview as final qualification process. The scholarship will be awarded to the deserving student/s by April 10, 2011. Scholarship will be awarded to one/two student/s for School Year 2011-2012. The decision of the scholarship committee is final.

We've really come a long way from the small gatherings we used to have na pot-luck pa! This time, nakapag-saya tayo at nakapag-share sa school ng blessings natin. ;)

I hope this will make us more closer as friends. I wish too that this won't be the last..

Alumni Homecoming

It was a red letter day for all us PCSians 89 and 93. Cant believe this day has come! After four months of preparations, get-togethers, POC meetings and house to house trips, our Alumni Homecoming has finally come. 1pm pa lang nasa PCS na si Joanne Ponce, Ed Marquez and Lindsay Perez to oversee the preparations of our suppliers. Augustus Castaneda and I joined them. Rhoel Roxas and Sharlyn Bautista, our program hosts, followed to do some sound checking and rehearse the flow of our program.

We started the program a little late, may santacruzan kasi kaya sobrang trapik sa bayan but the wait is definitely worth it. Edralyn Marquez welcomed our batchmates and guests and after his speech comes the much awaited part of the event, dinner. Our food was catered by Bing Cruz catering. During dinner we were entertained by the G26 band and Luis Marcelo's band, Kalapunk. The event was made more special with the presence of our elementary and high school teachers. A welcome remark was delivered by Ms. Lolit Evangelista, elementary principal, Ms. Angelina Esguerra, former elementary principal and Mrs. Precy Landrito, high school principal. Also present were Mrs. Baby Santos, Ms. Precy Hipolito, Mrs. Bautista, Ms. Mercy Pagkalinawan, Ms. Lorena Marcelino, Mrs. Fe Ilomin and Mr. Arcadio Antonio. Vernette Pacan-Pagala prepared a special song number for our teachers. She sang Thanks to you. Habang kumakanta si Vernette our batchmates went to our teachers and gave them flowers. It was a very touching song number. A small gesture to thank our 2nd parents on Mother's day.

Then came the raffle and fun games. Thanks to our batchmates who gave donations for the raffle. Madami tayo napamigay na mga magazines, bags, t-shirts, lotion and gift certificates. We also had a trivia game about PCS. Questions like ano ang first name ni Mr. Dela Pena, our former security guard (naalala nyo pa ba sya?)

This event is a benefit homecoming for both the elementary and high school departments of Pateros Catholic School. The proceeds of our ticket sales will be donated. We will post our financial reports in our future posts. Sobrang enjoy lahat ng umatend and kami mga POC are very thankful to all of us who made this homecoming a success. Di rin maging successful ang event natin without all your support and cooperation. It's great to see all our batchmates and teachers again. Hanggang sa susunod na reunion!!!

our 3rd get-together/meeting is on april 18, 2009, 7pm at sherniel's place in tabacalera, pateros. potluck po to.

as we all know, our alumni homecoming is for the benefit of Pateros Catholic School elementary and high school department. by joining this reunion, di lang tayo mag eenjoy, we're also gonna be part of a benefit event for our alma mater. hope to see more of you guys!!! please inform all our batchmates about our upcoming homecoming.

in full swing na po ang preparation natin kaya nangangarag na kaming mga poc. last saturday, april 4 nag meeting kami and we'll discuss them in our get together. nung sunday naman, april 5, nag house to house kami kasama si rhoel, joanne, yok, pia and rea. dapat pala nginangarag din kayo para magbayad sa tiket, hehehe. salamat sa mga batchmates natin na pinapasok kami sa bahay nila at nagpakain. (sobrang nabusog kami. sarap ng halo halo!!! tnx gee!) yung mga di namin naabutan sa bahay (nagbabakasyon daw or baka ayaw lang talaga magpakita sa min.., joke!!! hehehe) iniwanan namin sila ng flyers para malaman nila abt the reunion.

we have decided to come up with sponsor tickets worth Php 2000. wala naman pilitan sa pagbenta ng tikets na to (pwersahan lang!!!) don sa mga batchmates natin dyan who can afford to pay more can get the tickets. we will be inviting some of our elementary and high school teachers and the money collected from these tickets will be used for that. the ticket is good for 2, so kung medyo mabigat yung 2000 for you puede 2 kayo batchmate natin ang kumuha non at tig 1000 kayo.

this homecoming is non profit, pero whatever extra amount we will be collecting will be donated to the elementary and high school department. salamat sa mga batchmates natin na nagbigay ng donations. special thanks to michael pulgo and racquel lampaya velasco. yung mga gusto magpadala ng donation, check out our blogs for details.

may proposal na gagawa tayo ng commemorative shirt for our homecoming. the proceeds for this will be added to our donation para sa school. what do you think? baka meron kayo idea dyan for a shirt design, just let us know.

nakakatuwa na madami first timer na sumama sa meeting natin last night. si michael and joan came all the way from the airport to our meeting, thanks guys!!! hope to see more of you in our next get/together meeting. just a little recap, after the meeting at ed's place we went to lizette marcelino's bar in pateros where we stayed till 4am. after that di pa din kami natinag, we went to raquel's place para mag coffee at kumain ng cake.., hehehe. 530am na kami nakauwi.

last feb 15, nag meet kaming mga poc natin re our reunion. here's what we talked about:

it's official, our homecoming is on May 9, 2009. This is not just for pcsians93 but also for the elementary class of 1989. so if you are a pcsians89 or you know some of our batchmates na graduate ng pcs nung 1989 na hindi nag high school sa pcs please inform them na kasama sila sa kasayahan natin.

the design for our streamers and tickets has been finalized. we'll have it before the end of february courtesy of mr. edralyn marquez. thanks ed!!! yung mga streamers natin will be posted asap. nag assign na kami ng mga key areas para lagyan nito.

isa sa napagusapan is about the promotion/advertising of our reunion. we will have announcements made sa mga simbahan sa pateros, tagig, pasig and makati. kung meron dyan mga "church people" who can help us facilitate this will be very much appreciated. kung meron kayo mga kakilala na puede makatulong sa promotion (tv,radio,newspaper etc) pls let us know.

PCSians93 start-up fund

As mentioned in the minutes of our 1st get-together/meeting last January 31, 2009 at Joanne Ponce's place, we have made a voluntary collection for our start up funds which will be used for ticket printing and our tarpaulins. The total amount collected was Php 3500. The list of batchmates who generously gave donations are listed below. As previously agreed, the amount collected will be returned as soon as we have collected the funds from our ticket sales. After consultation with Anabelle Guardacasa-Almacen, fellow classmate and batchmate and an employee of BDO, we have decided to keep the money in the personal account of Ms. Joanne Ponce. Opening an account with our batch as account name (ie: PCS Batch93 or PCSians93) would require us to register the said name with the bank as an organization, with set of officers and bylaws, etc... this will be too tedious for an account which we will be keeping for a few months only. We will be very transparent with our finances and we will update you guys with any expenses we may have. Please join our yahoo group here so you can receive regular updates. We will set-up a procedure for batchmates abroad who wish to give their donations, or contributions. Thanks in advance!!!

The PCSians Grade School Graduating Class of ’89 and High School Graduating Class of ’93 will hold its first homecoming. This is an exciting event for all of us and there is no better place to hold this memorable occasion than in our Alma Mater. We all would like to go back to reminisce and ponder on the roots of our successes.

In this regard, we would like to request your good office to allow us to use the school grounds on Saturday, the 9th of May, 2009 form 6:00PM to 12:00AM. We also would like to take this opportunity to invite you and all our teachers and mentors to join us celebrate our homecoming.

Not only that we will see all our classmates, friends and teachers, but we would like our simple get together be of cause. This event is non-profit. However, all funds raised will be gladly donated to both the Grade School and High School departments. We are hoping that in our own way, we’ll be able to give back to our beloved Pateros Catholic School.

Pateros was originally established as Ive's Landing in around 1896 by Lee Ives. Ives began farming the area near the confluence of the Methow and Columbia Rivers, with around 50 teepees of Native Americans and 20 Chinese miners also inhabiting the area. The first post office was built in 1895.

Pateros, Wa city hall

In 1900, Charles Nosler acquired most of the townsite. He renamed the town to Pateros, after a city in the Philippines he previously visited. In 1903, the city consisted of four commercial establishments and nine residences and the town was sold to J.C. Steiner. Steiner vigorously promoted the town, making Pateros the principal rail shipping point between Oroville and Wenatchee. Pateros was officially incorporated on May 1, 1913.

Wells Dam was constructed on the Columbia River several miles downstream from Pateros in 1967. Wells Dam is one of the many hydroelectric dams present on the upper Columbia River including Grand Coulee Dam, Chief Joseph Dam, Rocky Reach Dam, Rock Island Dam, Wanapum Dam, and Priest Rapids Dam. The reservoir created by the Wells Dam is named Lake Pateros and flooded much of the original city.

-whatever extra amt we will collect will be used para sa school project for PCS. di pa lang alam kung ano ibibigay natin. ung last batch na nag reunion ang project nila is plasma tv (sosyal!!!) nakalagay daw sa classroom ng st. therese

-we agreed na catered ang food natin ( ayaw nyo na talaga ng naka styrofor?)

-di pa napagkasunduan kung kanino magpa cater pero we will check ung caterer na madalas mag service sa pcs which is bing cruz and ung blue petals.

-nagpunta ko pcs kanina. i met with glenda valencia-manosca (guidance counselor ng elementary dept). we talked to ms marcelino and mrs landrito. tentative date of our reunion is MAY 9, 2009. un ung available kasi may retreat na mga teachers. gagawa na ko letter and babalik ako within the week sa pcs para maformalize and maconfirm na natin. save the date!!!
