Dias of Destruction - WIP

One of the things I noticed about the Raider model and the Fire Prism turret is the lines on the panels are almost identically spaced. Not only that, but the shape of the curves seemed to fit in nicely.

This is how I got my idea for the Dias of Destruction. I also used a Reaper to help the entire process. I modified the prow though, and made a bunch of other changes. I also added a throne to the back for Vect to sit himself upon.

Scratchbuilt Malcador Painting WIP

Just putting some paint to one of my scratch built Malcador tanks. Yes, the main gun can rotate horizontally and traverse up and down a bit.

It's not exactly the same as the Forgeworld model, but it is close enough and clearly represents a Malcador, so I'm quite happy with how this has turned out so far.

It needs more work for painting though.

Dark Eldar Reaper - WIP

My Dark Eldar are also getting reinforcements this year. I've mostly been lacking in Heavy support choices for my army, and I decided that I wanted to add something a little fun into the mix by using a Reaper. With the advent of hull points, the Storm Vortex Projector has only gotten better.

I've got some more painting to do on this yet.

I'm also toying around with putting a couple Storm Vortex Projectors on the Rapier super heavy.

Scratch Built Malcadors

I'm working on getting some support for my Imperial Guard army for this year's Apocalypse game. Rumors are pointing to the new edition of Apocalypse being out for summer and I'm just getting prepared.

One of these Malcadors is actually a stand in for a Macharius Omega. I decided to create a Omega pattern plasma cannon and mount it on the Malcador chassis since I already had the template for the hull.

The other Malcador will have twin-linked lascannons in the turret. I'm planning on around 4-6 tanks using the Malcador hull, but I'm not sure which variants I will use just yet. There will be at least a couple with Omega plasma cannons though.

Super Heavies in 6th Edition

I just wanted to post some thoughts here that I've been thinking on for a while and below is my comment that came about from a post on Fritz's blog.

I've played a lot of Apocalypse and even the Spearhead mission that allows for super heavies. It's not really super heavies that are a problem, it's the destroyer weapons. While they used to outclass everything else (basically giving you no reason to choose anything other than a destroyer) because of the older blast template rules and the vehicle damage table. Clipping corners of vehicles with large destroyer templates would still hit at full force on a vehicle, usually crippling it or destroying it outright, while the rest of the template also hit another target. Cobras D-Cannons and other 10" blasts will destroy entire vehicle squadrons in one shot.

One further thought on blast template clipping. This is actually the reason why the twin-linked pulsar on the Scorpion is so good, because you can re-roll the scatter to optimize how you clip the vehicles with the double 5" destroyer templates so you can spread the hits over as many vehicles/infantry as possible. Sometimes scatter is good!

In all honesty though, an unsupported super heavy is basically just going to get evaporated if you are prepared to fight one. They survive not because of structure points and special rules, but because they are hard to get close to. They're hard to get close to because in Apocalypse the table should basically be the most hellish rush hour imaginable with infantry and vehicles everywhere.

The only thing that I would caution is the Imperial Titans, if they explode they can literally remove everything on a standard sized table.

Eldar Corsair Jetbike Prototype

I've started up another project. This time I am working on making some Eldar Corsair Jetbikes, which will also work as Guardian Jetbikes.

I've converted up some Dark Eldar Reaver Jetbikes as part of the concept. My corsairs are built using a mix of Dark Eldar and Eldar bits anyway, so the bikes make a good mix of parts along with some pieces that I've created myself.

They are designed to look close to the Eldar Jetbike Prototype that was shown off years ago, although I've done some modifications to the design. If you remember correctly, the Eldar Jetbikes of both the Craftworld and Dark variety are supposed to share a common design.
