Patient Services, Inc (PSI) - A Non-Profit Premium and Co-Payment Foundation

Patient Services, Inc. (PSI) is the "ground breaking" 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization of its kind. Two decades ago, we recognized the importance of providing a “safety net” for patients with chronic illnesses who were struggling to keep up with expensive premiums and co-payments. Since 1989 we have led the charge to provide much needed patient assistance, soliciting donations to fund numerous patients and their families in a myriad of disease areas. Today we’re flattered by our emulators (other similar foundations) who demonstrate just how critical the need continues to be.

For over 20 years, I have sought to develop a model, which would meet the financial medical challenges of patients. This year PSI has developed the programs and models to achieve this dream. Through our new programs and models, PSI is now able to provide assistance through the medical life cycles, which challenge a patient. On February 20, 2009, PSI was gifted the A.C.C.E.S.S.® program. A.C.C.E.S.S.® stands for Advocating for Chronic Conditions, Entitlements and Social Services. The A.C.C.E.S.S.® staff represents patients through the application process and stages of securing Social Security Disability Income (SSDI). This is a value added service, which PSI is providing for diseases and conditions the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) considers routinely eligible for SSDI. Other diseases and conditions may be approved for SSDI by painstakingly moving through levels of appeals and appearing before an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) before being approved. Nevertheless, our caring A.C.C.E.S.S. professional lawyers will patiently answer your questions and help you move through the stages of eligibility. Presently, we are only assisting patients with the following conditions: Hemophilia, Immune Deficiency, Alpha1 Antitrypsin, Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy, Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. We are seeking to expand these services to other diseases and conditions as funding permits. However, please do not hesitate to call A.C.C.E.S.S. with your questions about Medicare and Medicaid at 888-700-7010. On April 4, 2009, PSI became the "sole member" of the Positudes non-profit pharmacy and patented this model. Now known as the non-profit PSI-PI Pharmacy, we can collaborate with the pharmaceutical patient assistance programs (PAP) in qualifying and dispensing the company’s prescription drugs to needful patients for free. The pharmaceutical company can benefit from working with us by realizing a significant tax deduction by donating the prescription drugs to our non-profit pharmacy and avoid paying service fees to for-profit administrators. If a pharmaceutical company prefers to retain their for profit administrator for qualification services, the PSI-PI Pharmacy can still accept and dispense compassionate prescription drug allowing the pharmaceutical company to realize a tax benefit.

On February 5, 2009, President Obama signed a bill extending health insurance to millions of low-income children in the first of what he hopes will be many steps to guarantee coverage for all Americans. Since August 2007, the House has voted at least seven times for legislation to expand the popular State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). According to an article by Robert Pear in The New York Times, President Bush adamantly opposed the bill on the ground it would lead to "government run health care for every American." From a bipartisan point of view, this bill has experienced controversy throughout the past. The positive side of the bill is that it provides care for chronically ill children. The downside is to determine where the funding will come from without putting the country into further debt.

Pure Culture Consulting Inc., a Richmond, Virginia, based brand and strategy firm recently completed an extensive study of Patient Services Incorporated (PSI) clients. PSI was interested in determining how they could improve their overall "client experience." During late fall, 11,000 surveys were mailed to the homes of clients. We are very happy to report that 2695 PSI clients completed and returned the survey. This represents a 25 percent response rate, which is a very strong response for a pen and paper survey. Here are some key highlights of the results.

GoodSearch is a new Yahoo!-powered search engine that donates half of its advertising revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate. Use it as you would any search engine, get quality searches from Yahoo, and watch the donations add up.
