Guerrilla Art is the motto for this 2011 edition of the Modern Art Festival BAC!, this time far away to do any contemporary political statements, the resource is historical for Patrick Jöst and Ricardo Ramos: a series of photos representing some of the strong and controversial women in history invite us to think about the thin line between reality and fantasy in the story of this women, and how history give to us different opinions about their role of in terms of politics and religion and how their are placed in the collective imagery.

Fashion as a resource of style and photography as the media to express this concept, has been developed under fashion designer´s Ricardo Ramos criteria and captured with the attentive eye by photographer Patrick Jöst.

This work has been displayed in Galería Hartmann (Barcelona, Spain) from 17.11. – 22.12.2011.

“About the eternal womanhood, the perverse beauty and the tales of the world”
The “Femme Fatale” had been a considerably represented figure in art and literature through the history; these legendaries beautiful women, sometimes historical figures and in other cases mythical characters, embody the astuteness and provocation to serve their own instincts, often taking the personal conflict to a political or intellectual level.
Admired, revered or exalted because of the use of their seduction weapons to serve their faith, this clever beauties whom successfully manipulate the sons of the patriarchal power for their own profit, they are women with proper name whom revive many of the male’s fears in several cultures. And they will be always present in the collective imaginary and in the men’s hearts whom are intimidated by the risk of a strong women’s love. Some of this women had been emulated under the attentive eye of the designer Ricardo Ramos and captured by the lens of photographer Patrick Jöst, approaching us to this spirit of transgressing womanhood in an actual way – making use of fashion as a resource of style and photography as an artistic format.
Salomé la Princésa Idumea, Ishtar, Elizabeth Barthory Condesa de Ecsed “the bloody countess”, Sherezada, Aisha bint Abi Bakr, Shakina bint al-Hussein y Lou Andreas-Salome are the names of these controversials beauties represented in this project.

“Sobre el eterno femenino, la belleza perversa y los cuentos del mundo”
La “Femme Fatale” ha sido a través de la historia una figura ampliamente representada en el arte y la literatura; Estas féminas de legendaria belleza, en algunos casos personajes históricos y en otros personajes míticos, encarnan la astucia y la provocación al servicio de sus instintos, en muchas ocasiones llevando lo personal al conflicto político o intelectual.
Veneradas, admiradas o enaltecidas por hacer uso de sus armas de seducción al servicio de su fe, estas bellezas astutas que manipulan a los hijos del poder patriarcal en su beneficio con éxito, son mujeres con nombres propios que reviven muchos de los miedos masculinos en diversas culturas, y estarán siempre presentes en el imaginario colectivo y en los corazones de los hombres que se amedrentan ante el riesgo del amor de una mujer fuerte, algunas de estas mujeres han sido emuladas bajo la atenta mirada del diseñador Ricardo Ramos y capturadas con la lente del fotógrafo Patrick Jöst, acercándonos a este espíritu de feminidad transgresora de una manera actual haciendo uso de la moda como recurso de estilo y de la fotografía como formato artístico.

“Über die unendliche Weiblichkeit, die perverse Schönheit und die Märchen der Welt”
Die “Femme Fatale” ist eine Figur, die umfangreich in Kunst und Literatur in der Geschichte repräsentiert wurde. Diese legendären Frauen – manchmal historische Figuren und in anderen Fällen mythische Charaktere – verkörpern die Scharfsinnigkeit und Provokation, um ihren eigenen Instinkten zu dienen; häufig den persönlichen Konflikt zu einer politischen oder intellektuellen Ebene tragend.
Bewundert, verehrt und erhaben wegen ihrer betörenden Waffen, die ihrem Glauben dienen, sind diese klugen Frauen – welche die Söhne der patriarchischen Macht erfolgreich für den eigenen Profit manipulieren, Frauen mit echten Namen, die viele der männlichen Ängste in etlichen Kulturen wiederbeleben. Und sie werden immer in der kollektiven Bilderwelt und in den Herzen der Männer präsent sein, die vom Risiko der Liebe einer starken Frau eingeschüchtert sind. Einige dieser Frauen wurden unter dem wachsamen Auge von Designer Ricardo Ramos nachgebildet, vom Objektiv des Fotografen Patrick Jöst eingefangen und führen uns an den Geist der sündigen Weiblichkeit heran – in einem zeitgemäßen Weg die Mode als Resource und die Fotografie als künstlerisches Format nutzend.

Since then every year on 20th of may thousands of Uruguayans come together to remind of the victims with a march of silence through the capital. During the march there really is an impressive silence while the names of the missing people are called out loud. On the banners you can read:

“Nunca mas terrorismo de estado” – No more state terrorism.
“Donde están? La verdad sigue secuestrada” – Where are they? The truth continues to be kidnapped.

Ricardo Ramos, spanish / colombian fashion designer based in Berlin does his work inspired in extensive cultural heritage research. His work its been inspired in the folk, indigenous and tribal cultural heritage related to costumes and textiles from different countries all over the world after extensive travelling and experiencing deep cultural inmersions. Ramos has been doing fashion since his chilhood, anyway he studied Fashion at the Paris American Academy (Paris), Fashion Illustration at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design (London) and Traditional Textil Design in Lemark Institute in Mumbai (India). Collections have been shown in Barcelona (Pasarela Gaudí, BCN Fashion Week, BAC Festival de Arte Contemporáneo de BCN), New York City (NY Fashion Week), Bogotá (Textilmoda, Bogotá Fashion), London (London Fashion Week) and Berlin (Berlin Fashion Week).
