Call to Arms - really just a rant

Hey - Chris here again, shanghaiing Patti’s blog.

I realize I should be using this time to blog about the weddings we shot recently. Or share some funny moments from the family ski trip we took to Mt. Hood a couple weeks ago. And I will in a little while. However, I believe right now it is vital I bring your attention to an alarming crisis that is sweeping across this cherished land we call home. Yes…. I am speaking of the lack of etiquette and common sense….. at the Red Box video vending machine. For those who are not familiar with this device, it is simply a vending machine that dispenses CD’s of popular movies that you can take home to view and then return to any other Red Box the next day. The disc’s rent for $1.00 a day. The machines are located at just about every McDonald's I have ever seen, Wal-Mart, various other national chain stores, truck stops, ect, ect, ect. It is a brilliant business model.

OK, now that we are all on the same page, let’s begin. (And I know I may offend some with this but please take this in the spirit it is given, which is simply this – be aware of others and play nice!)

I am going to lay down the Proper Red Box Etiquette in a 3 step approach. And yes , this is set in stone. No, it is not negotiable.

HAVE A PLAN

This would seem redundant to even list. Especially in the number one spot. I mean, who would just wander up to a giant red object without some sort of idea about what was going to take place? But that is exactly the problem. Because as you are staring at all the pretty colors and being hypnotized by all the possible movie options you could choose from - all for only a dollar each, a line has begun to take shape behind you. And they all have a PLAN. And they all have other places they would rather be.

THE PLAN

What I mean by this is have some idea about what movie you are after. The Red Box people even give you a little sneak peak as to what the latest releases and popular movies are available with pictures on the side of the machine. Maybe watch the people in front as they navigate thru the touch screen interface if this is your first time interacting with this wonderful concept. That way you will not be intimidated or confused when you get your turn.

It is here that I am about to wander into a mine field, but I really feel this must be said….. The Red Box is not a teachable moment or techno field trip for your kids. There. I said it. Window shopping is not allowed. This goes back to having a PLAN. Decide with your little ones before you get your turn at the screen what movie you are going to get. Or at least narrow down to a specific genre. I like to tell my kids the Red Box is really put there by Santa and he has a camera and voice recorder. He is looking for kids that argue with there parents and then they won’t get presents at Christmas. Why else would the giant thing be Red?

EXECUTE THE PLAN

Know what you are going to do. Be ready to interact with the machine in an authoritative, confidant, and assertive manner. Have your movie wish list prioritized so if your first choice is out you can move to your second option. Don’t get caught flatfooted. It is embarrassing for you and it really bugs your line mates. If you are returning a disc, get it done. No lallygagging. It should be pointed out that if you are in line to pick out a movie and a new player arrives to the line with what is clearly a disc to be returned, you have to ask if they are indeed retuning. If they say yes, you must let them take cutts’ies. It’s a classy move and will raise your stock in the karma department. If you, the disc returner, use the fast pass and get to the front of the line to return, you are committed. You are to return the disc and get - out – of – the - way! Under no circumstance can you call an audible and begin browsing for a movie rental. If there is more than two people that you moved in front of and you pull this brain dead move, you will incite a level of anger and violence on par with an English soccer match. You can of course move to the back of the line and wait your turn to make a selection. If I were you, I would use the time to formulate a PLAN.

We can do this people. This country put a man on the moon (allegedly). Defeated fascism, & communism. Cured polio. Created Dancing with the Stars (I think. Or did we rip that one off from the Brit’s too?)

These three simple steps can be the first big step in re establishing etiquette and common sense in this crazy world. Who knows, this could be just the thing that brings about world peace. Or at least gets me through that line in time to get home before my fries get cold. I hate that!

Goodbye Grandpa

My grandfather is being laid to rest in Price Albert, SK. That is in Canada. He passed away last week and today is the funeral service. I realize this is not the typical entry I make on this blog, however, I feel completed to share with as many people as I can what a great man my grandpa was. I know everyone says the same about their grandfather, and it is true. Our grandparents come from a different time. They have been tempered by hardship, wars, and pandemics. From those trials they have developed such a strong character and quite strength that all we can do is hope that a small portion of those traits will pass on to us. My grandfather epitomizes the Greatest Generation.

My grandpa is Elmer Neil Bragg, (1926-2010), and he is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Mildred Bragg. He has 5 children and many grandkids and great grandkids. He grew up in the farming communities of the upper peninsula in Michigan. Until only a few years ago he still went back every year in order to hunt with his siblings and friends. He joined the army towards the end of WW2 and he was on plan to be in the first group of troops in the planned invasions of Japan. I often wonder what would have happened if that had taken place. Would he have survived? Would I even be here? Instead the war ended and he was based in Japan for a short period of time. Then the Korean War started. This one he did take part in. He was trained as an airborne trooper and he saw combat, that much I do know. When I was about 7 years old, and like all boys, very interested in playing war and being an army guy, I asked my grandpa a naive & ignorant question – “did you kill anybody?” I will never forget his response. Or I guess I should say lack of response, but only in a verbal sense. He stared at me with eyes that were sad. And up till that point I only knew a grandpa who was always happy, smiling, and ready with a joke or a hug. But these eyes where different. He continued to stare at me with those sad eyes. And I think there was a little fear, not of what he had seen, but that I may be called to experience such things that he had seen or done. I never got a direct answer to my question, and I didn’t want one. After looking away for a moment, he looked at me again and those familiar eyes had returned. I never brought up the subject again.

After the war, Elmer attended school and became an ordained minister. Although he had congregations, he true calling was to build churches. Which he did, everywhere! Canada, the US, and even Okinawa, Japan. And he did that one when he was in his late seventies! He could do everything from drawing up the plans to putting the lock on the front door at completion. Framing, electrical, plumbing, sheetrock, roofing, no problem!

He battled cancer and won about 8 years ago. The doctors gave him about a year to live due to the spread through his body. Well that didn’t sit well with Elmer. So through his faith, prayer, and nutritional adjustments to his diet, he beat the cancer. On his visit to the doctor, the x-ray showed a complete regression of the cancers. The doctors stated they had never seen anything like it before. I guess God wasn’t done with grandpa just yet!

There a many stories about my grandpa. Some sad, some funny, but all inspirational. That is why I will often ask myself when I am challenged, or tried, or frustrated…"what would my grandfather do?" My list of role models is short, but grandpa is at the top. I know my work ethic and desire to complete a task properly comes directly from Elmer. And I never litter. One of the few times I ever saw my grandfather angry was when I dropped a piece of trash on the ground and walked away. The details as to what happened next are not important. I never litter, period. And neither do my kids. That is the key to this message. My grandfather did not exist in a vacuum. He has had an impact on countless thousands of people. Not only the individuals he encountered directly, but even more breathtaking about this thought is all the people indirectly influenced by him. And his influence is positive and encouraging.

I have had conflicted emotions this past week. I am saddened he is gone, which I guess is for selfish reasons. I am also….pleased? Joyful? Yeah.. I think joyful is a better word. He is no longer in pain. He is with his Savior, whom he served so faithfully and diligently. And he earned all that God is blessing him with.

Goodbye grandpa. You can take a break now and rest.

The 1st Clark County wedding expo. It's in the books!

Last weekend was the first wedding expo held at the Clark County Event Center. Patti was able to get a space so we spent part of Friday setting up and then we worked the show on Saturday & Sunday. Whew! It sure seemed like a good idea when I mentioned to Patti about six months ago..."we should have a booth in this show if we can get in". Don't get me wrong - I think it turned out to be a great show. If you didn't know any better you would think this show has been going on for years. The folks who produced and managed the event were fantastic! And the number of brides that attended was a real positive as well. It's just that.... it takes a lot more work than you would expect to put together a nice display and have the right amount of handouts to give people as you talk with them. Patti & I had the opportunity to talk with many brides about their upcoming weddings so we have a great end of 2010 and 2011 shaping up.

Another great side effect from the show was getting a chance to talk with the vendors who shared our aisle at the show - our "neighbors" if you will. We met Vickie Nabors with Gala Gowns, located here in Vancouver (360.750.6700). She is a real sweetheart with a vast assortment of prom, party and wedding gowns. Both new and gently used. A great way to look fantastical and save a little money when prom season gets here. I know Patti is going to be giving her a call when it comes time for our daughter's prom!
Directly across from our booth was Curtis, owner of Weddings & Wines Limousine service. What a class act! I really enjoyed the short conversations we were able to have in between the groups of brides that came through our area. Curtis had his son, Brad, come in and promote his business as well. Brad is the proprietor of Brad's Carpet Cleaning. I am officially starting the Brad fan club and I will be the president of said club. This kid (he's 21. Yes, I am embracing my "mature" age) is a GO GETTER! He has so much enthusiasm for his business. I don't think he realizes we are in the middle of a great recession here. You talk to either Brad or Curtis for more than two minutes and you are charged and ready to take on the world. And if you get both at the same time...WHOA - lookout! Curtis, you and your wife have a lot to be proud of in Brad. He sincerely honors your family name.

The last vendor on our "street" was a real treat for both Patti & I. When we first arrived to the event center, we were only focused on finding our space and getting started with setup. This was the first time we had setup this particular booth display so I only had a theoretical layout on paper...and that always works out ....right? Oh, and two days before the show we found out our space was going from 10x10 to 10x20! Oh joy...i think.

So after about twenty minutes of unpacking and setting up, I started to look around my new surroundings. And who shall I see setting up across the way from us?? Windsor Weddings at the Academy. The same academy chapel where Patti & I got married 18 years ago! We made our introductions to Vicki Greenleaf and shared our personal connection to the chapel.The Academy chapel is also the venue of one of our featured galleries on our wedding website. It worked out great for Vicki to give potential clients an idea of all the unique areas a bride could have pictures taken within and outside the chapel.

Let me say right here, Vicki has been in the wedding biz for a little while in these parts and she is connected! There was a steady stream of industry bigs talking with her. If you have a wedding question - Vicki is all the Google you will need. Sharing Vicki's booth was Corey, owner of Duo con Brio. This is a group that plays classical music for wedding, corporate events and just about anything that would be well served by having a classy bunch of pros playing instruments that I can't even pronounce. He had a DVD on site and that sounded great! I can only imagine how wonderful they sound in person!

All and all we had a great experience at the show. We had the opportunity to share our passion for capturing weddings with numerous brides and we got to meet these great vendors. If you ever find yourself in need of any of their services - please keep these folks in mind. I know I am going too!

Kayla and Brody' Wedding PLUS Kayla's Bridal Shoot

Chris and I had a blast with Kayla on the day of her Bridal shoot. She is the oldest of 6 girls. Her mom and two oldest sisters came along for the shoot. Kayla was such a hoot to photograph. She was so excited to get her gown on and start taking pictures. She said that she was exstatatic about wearing her gown for more than just once. She was going to get her monies worth!! I agree Kayla, I wish I would have had a bridal shoot when I got married to Chris, I guess it's not too late, I could go and put on my gown and walk down to the studio and have Chris take some pictures of me (only thing...I don't think it will fit, 4 kids later) ha ha.

Shana, Kaylas mom was such a great mother of the bride. She wanted to make sure that kayla had a beautiful wedding, she was super excited for Kayla, she was truly going out of her way to make sure that indeed Kayla had the dream wedding that she had dreamed of since she was a little girl. Ahhhh.

Half way thru the shoot the sisters told us that they liked INSYNC, you know the boy band, well funny thing, we had it, It helps when you have a teenage daughter who listened to them several years ago. They were all bust'n a move. We got some great shots of Kayla at her Bridal shoot, oh ya... and then there are the wedding pictures......

Kayla and Brody were maried at the Portland Morman Tabernacle. What a Beautiful Church!! The grounds were spectacular!

Kayla and Brody were the cutest couple there, as there were 4 other weddings going on that day there. I was so impressed with how Brody was so attentive to his newly wife, Kayla. I wish them much happiness and many babies!!

Kylie is the latest senior to come to PBP for her senior pictures and when I found out she was looking for some river/woodsy shots, I thought “oh no, here come the devil bugs”. Thankfully, there was hardly any at Lewisville park, which made this shoot very enjoyable. And it didn’t hurt that on the warmest day (89degrees) we were down by, (and at times IN,) the water. Kylie was a great girl to work with. Patti asked her a few questions before we started about some shot ideas. Things like “I may have you lay down in the forest grass”, and “how do you feel about sitting in a chair in the middle of the river”, and “will you lay down in the water, in your pretty dress?”. And Kylie responded “Sure, I’m up for anything”. That can be a dangerous response to give Patti & I because we can get pretty creative and adventures. And we will hold you to that response….just kidding. We’ll give… a little :)

Kylie was true to her word, as you can see in these images. Kylie is a gorgeous young lady so it was pretty easy to create such beautiful pictures. She was also very patient as Patti & I worked out our angles and lighting due to all the shadows cast by the large evergreen trees in the park. One of our favorite techniques to use in lighting is having the natural sunlight act as a background/hairlight and fill in the subject with flash. When the sun is at the downside of its arc and we have water to reflect as well, we can really get some dynamic light going. The close up landscape and full length portrait images of Kylie in her black dress on the river bank shows this type of lighting. When it works, it really adds dimension to a photo. Oh, and when your subject is as pretty as Kylie, well… then it is just perfect.

Thanks to Kylie for being such a great sport and letting us share in your senior year activities! Thank you also to Heidi (mom) and Judy (grandmother) for spending your time with us. It was a lot of fun talking with you! You have a great kid in this one!

Creation Fest 2010

So starts the daily journal of the Crosspointe youth trip to Creation Fest 2010 in Enumclaw, WA.We arrived on Wednesday afternoon, along with about 6500 (total guess) of our closest friends. At least we hope we can all be friends, considering we are in very close proximity in a large cow field. I doooo love camping!

Matt K., Christina K., Patti, me, Austin B., Madi B., Matt B.,Chris B., Matt C., Ryan C., Kaitlyn M., Jennifer H., Alena H., Zach H., Melody S., Sarah D., Haley W., Kelsey F. (hence forth called WE) began to setup camp right when we arrived.

David Crowder Band was to go on at 8PM and WE wanted to be there. I have to say I was very impressed with the youth. Matt K. told the kids they had to setup the tents their were assigned to sleep in on their own. And without instructions. They got it done! And no one cried. Christina & Patti set about getting the "kitchen" area established and dinner prepared in the middle of this crucible of mayhem. And they got it done as well. A capital start to our adventure!

After supper, it was off to the main stage for David Crowder. It was a great show, all be it a little to short a set in my opinion. I really enjoy his style and could of had a little more.

After a brief stage reset, Switchfoot was up to finish off the first night. I tried to get to the area where the youth were watching the shows. I text back and forth with Austin and got to within 65 feet, but that was it. He and the others were about 20 feet from the stage and it was packed! i was able to get some shots of the band and then i bailed out of there. I guess i really am getting older. What does that t-shirt say, "if it's to loud your to old"? Yep, that's me. I made my way to the back of the crowd where Patti & Christina were on a blanket enjoying the show. It was here that we got to witness the highlight of the night. This little boy in the red t-shirt was bust'in a move! And I don't just mean "oh look. how cute. he is trying to dance" type moves...this kid had it going on! He was doing robot, a little Michael Jackson influence, back flips and cartwheels. I think i saw some Riverdance foot work. It was awesome. and he did this for about 45 minuets...non stop! After the show ended we all headed back to camp for a blissful nights rest and dreams of the fun to come in the following days. stay tuned......

Who will be Americas Next Top Model??

Ok, not really (please don’t sue me Tyra). But considering how beautiful every one of these girls are, any one of them could be the next top model! The real story here is these are the Senior Class of 2011 reps for Patti Boeck Photography. Patti thought it would be a good opportunity to gather all the girls together for a group shot and have a chance to meet each other. Of course the concept was real easy to come up with; however, have you ever tried to coordinate 10 high school girls’ schedules!? Not as simple as you think! Patti has the patience of a saint and the perseverance of an ant colony. She would not give up on pulling this off. After about 6 date & time changes, a flurry of texting, and numerous confirmation cell calls, she was able to lock in all the reps. Of course the time that was ultimately agreed upon was 11:30. Right when the sun would be at the highest point of its arc. Not exactly the “choice” light photographers go for. That’s ok, we will soldier on. You never see Tyra get knocked around by a little high noon sun glare! Am I right?! Let’s do this thing!

The shot plan was straight forward. Find a location large enough to line the girls up on a single focal plane and have a pleasing background. We chose a city park in Cascade Park that we were familiar with. Never go exploring for a shoot location when you are on a time crunch. Many of the girls were fitting this shoot in between other commitments so we had to stay on time.

Side note: always keep a rake in the car. Even in these trying economic times, causing utility cutbacks, the city still finds a way to cut the park grass the day before we shoot. There is just no way to make dead grass clumps “work” in a photo. I thought I had moved all the grass that was in the background but you can still see some off to the right . Photoshop is wonderful.

Next comes the lighting. Since I knew we would have the sun to contend with, I decided instead of trying to fight hard shadows and glare, I would bring my Alien Bee studio flashes and power them up to balance out the bright ambient light the sun was throwing down. Power came from a 2000w generator. Not ideal for a quick setup situation but it did the job. (Xmas wish = AB Vagabond portable power. Just a little FYI J ). Being limited by a 1/200 max sync with the flashes, we made exposure adjustment with the aperture. The final group shot landed at 1/200 shutter / 10f / ISO 100. These shots are not the final version. Patti handles that tech/artistic side of things for obvious reasons.

Before you ask, no, that is not a stalker taking video. I grabbed my video/tech savvy son and put him on Spielberg duty. Tough gig I’d say. “Here kid, video tape these gorgeous girls that just happen to be your age”. He has it sooo rough these days. Anyways, stay tuned for the “behind the scenes” video to come online soon!

The session went off without a hitch and on time. Happy, happy, Joy, joy!

Lunch – ONE HOUR! Now where is that catering truck??

Patti brought Subway sandwiches and pop for the girls to eat for lunch while she went over a few details about the Senior rep program as well as opened up the discussion to ideas or challenges the ladies might run into when promoting Patti Boeck Photography. The whole event was a great time and a lot of fun to do. This was the first time we did this with our senior reps but I am certain it will be an annual event with each new class.

Product shoot - the Good & the Bad

We had the opportunity to create a few product images for Hearth Distribution, located in Longview, Washington. Hearth Distribution is a local company that specializes in patio and outdoor appliances that are fueled by propane or natural gas. It is some really neat stuff they have in stock. The images are going to be used for both web and print so I knew we where going to have to be sure to capture very clean and well lit pictures in order to accommodate the demands of various publication formats. The good part about a product shoot is once you have the location setup, the lighting dialed in and the camera angles figured out, the rest is like a production line. Bring in the piece. Dust off. And click. Done. Next! But nothing is as it seems.

Now for the bad. In our pre-shoot conversations with our client, it was explained by Hearth Dist. that they would take the finished images, cut them out of our backdrop and “place” them into various backyard backdrops. Bully for us. We setup a nice and clean white paper background. No fuss, no muss. Now flash back to the shoot day. As we finish shooting the first piece, John (Hearth Dist employee who helped with product setup. He knows this stuff like the back of his hand! You can never have too much help I say) begins adding glass pieces into the top of the product we had just shot. I ask “what are you doing that for?” John looks up with a “what do you think I am doing” look and says – “you are going to take a picture with this lit. Right?” Uh oh. Now I have taken pictures of fires before. You know, kids around a campfire with the smores. Candle light at the dinner table. But those have an overall composition of dark and warm. For a product, I knew I would have to capture the warmth and color of the flame but also still bring in enough light to illuminate the piece. Huh. Well, let’s try the original light setup – two AB800 with soft box, one on each side of the piece, almost in a straight horizontal line with the piece. Front illumination is from a Canon speed light at camera right. Backdrop is lit by a speed light. Sometimes you stumble into a winning shot when you don’t try so hard. This was not one of those times. No go with the original setup. It was just too bright. The flame is not visible because the AB’s wash it out and the white backdrop isn’t doing any favorers. OK. Let’s regroup here. Throw up a black backdrop to allow the flame to show up. (I always have a black cloth with me. You just never know when you will need a backdrop/ground cover/changing room) Next we turned off the AB’s and the backlight. Now it was just a matter of finding the shutter to aperture ratio for the right look. I kept the Speed light at camera right but now it was going to be the main. I also always keep reflectors with me so I placed those on each side of the pieces to fill in the sides. After one or two tries (ok, maybe more like 4-6, but who’s counting) I got what I was looking for. Whew. Now that we had our game plan mapped out, it was back to knocking out the rest of the pieces. We just switched from the original “no flame “setup and then the “flame” one light, black background setup for each piece.

I guess the moral of this story is always error on the side of over preparation. You just never know what may come up, no matter how extensive the pre consult meeting may have been. After we completed the shoot and were heading back to Vancouver, Patti and I didn’t even really talk about the unexpected challenges. I think we are used to that. But we both agreed that it is the unknown that makes doing this so fun and rewarding.

So this is the obligatory " i have been so busy i just haven't had time to blog" blog. Truth is, Patti is still real busy so she is "allowing" me to throw this down today. This was a family walk we took in the Clark county area. As you can see, there was sunshine on that day. Now you have an indication how long ago it was when we took that walk! I think i can speak for ALL when I say - Enough with the rain and clouds and cold! This weather is starting to play like a Greek tragedy. Anyways, the walk was a good time.

Madi had the opportunity to showcase here leaping abilities. Logan was up to know good from the look he is giving. He did almost grab a snake or two. Don't be fooled by the smiles in the group shot. You parents know what I am talking about. This is the one keeper out of about 15 shots that were less than desirable. Austin picking on Madi. Logan staring at everything BUT the camera lens. Aspen, my baby (& favorite of course), was the one who hit her mark on every shot. But still a great time to be together as a family. With Austin only two years from college and Madi right behind him, days like these are truly moments to grab and hold as tight as we can!Here is where I insert the obligatory " i will make a point to post more often on my blog" statement. I will. Really. If Patti allows it that is. Stay tuned........

Jeremy and Echo's Wedding

What a day ! Having shot a few weddings in the past, I always go into the day wondering if it will go smooth or will it be full of stress and frazzled nerves for the wedding party. I am used to the process of "the wedding day", but this is usually the first time for most of the people I am about to photograph.I never know how they will react to the unexpected challenges that always occur on the big day. The day started well. I was able to get Echo outside between sprinkles and got some great shots of her on a vintage chair. I say great shots like I had anything to do with it.When I have a bride as beautiful as Echo to put in front of the lens, I just click away, smiling the whole time because I knew these were going to be great! The camera really likes Echo! And her lucky husband is no slouch either when it comes to having a picture or two taken. I sometimes have to coax the guys, but not Jeremy. He was a gem to shot and those blue eyes. WOW! I think I know how he swept Echo off her feet. After the individual shots were complete, it was time to start the ceremony. One problem. Half the guests had still not arrived due to traffic on the interstate. Here is were the plans of the wedding day were coming unraveled. I thought "OK, now people are going to start stressing out". But it never happened. There were a couple additional challenges that popped up but they were dealt with and every one soldiered on. It was so refreshing to see family and friends focus and treat this day for what it's true purpose was - the coming together to witness and celebrate the love of two people and the beginning of a new family. The ceremony went off without a hitch. The venue was intimate and wonderfully decorated. Now i have to say here that in most weddings, the bride is the main attraction. However, at this wedding, I think the ring bearer may have stolen the show! He is Jeremy and Echo's baby and all three just light up when they are together. He is the little guy swinging between Jeremy & Echo. Such a cutie!

Congratulations Jeremy & Echo! I had so much fun being a part of your special day and I pray you have a long and happy life together!

So it is Dilyns first Birthday!! We had a hoot with just letting her dig into this delicious cake. How cute is the one where she is actually smaching the cake with her foot. I love it!!!

Wow, we had a great day getting these fun and adorable images of brothers Broc and Zac. They were so cute. Were we lucky or what??? The weather that we got on this day was gorgeous, considering the weather that we had 3 days before, rain , rain, rain, and then now this storm that has come thru... We couldn't have asked for any better. I just love these pictures. If I had to pick a favorite, of course it would be of Big brother Broc giving his little brother Zac a kiss.... but really that was just too hard to even do. they are all so cute...

Andrews Family Photo Shoot - Good Memories!!!

Today I had the awesome privledge to photograph old time friends from way back. When I was ten years old Vanessa and I were pals and played in my parents back forrest. Oh the stories I could tell....ha just kidding.. Vanessa is the one kneeling on the ground holding her great nieces hands. Her parents and sisters lived next to me for over 10+ years. We went to Grade School, Jr. High and then High School.
They were truly a family that everyone in the neighborhood adored. After High School we all went onto pursue adult hood, lost touch, and then guess what???? Facebook was invented!!! Gotta love FB!! Vanessa and I found each other and she had seen that I had a photography studio. She knew that she was going to be back in town visitng her Family. She scheduled a session for family portraits. What a great time we all had reminising and even managed to squeeze in some great shots! What a gorgeous family!!
I just love all of these photos, but I have to admit that I just love this one of the girls having a little tea party! PRECIOUS!!

Too too cute for words!!!! This was a fun shoot for me. Grandma, mom and baby Hayley were having so much fun. Hayley was not giving up smiles to freely. It never failed, just as soon as I put down my camera, yep you guessed it, that's when little miss would crack up and give us those cute little giggles and smiles. Eventually we got those oh too cute smiles. I just love these sneak peak pictures. Check out the first one, isn't she just so angelic here. What a little cutie pie!! Chris and I had such a ball shooting this wedding. Chris and Jeannie are the cutest couple if you ask me. This wedding was full of love, energy and excitement! The reception was indeed one of the most funnest ones we have been to yet! Never a dull moment. Dancing was had by all. One word.....FUN! Kaylee's Little Photo Shoot

A Christmas Present Indeed! Kaylee was due December 18th, but she decided she would wait and give her mom and dad the best present EVER!! She arrived on Christmas Day. I'd have say that I would agree with Kaylee.

Kaylee was so adorable. She was so patient with me. We had to take just a couple of breaks for her to eat, but soon after her tummy was full she was as content as content could be. She even lost her belly button at the shoot, she wasn't too pleased about that, but again, a quick snack and she was up for more pictures.

I just love these pics, if I had to pick a favorite, (which is really hard for me to do, cuz these all are so precious), I would have to go with the flower on her bum and her in the Christmas gift basket.

(I couldn't pick just one, too hard)

What a perfect day to make some pictures. When you get clear skies and sunshine in December, in Seattle, you leap at the chance to get outside and start snapping away. Oh yeah…. Did I mention it was about 19 degrees with a soft breeze off the water? Wowzers! The upside is chattering teeth look like smiles on film.

Chris & Jeanie were great sports and their playful nature came out regardless of the temperature!

The big day is only a few days off but thankfully they are going with an INDOOR ceremony! Another point about shooting in brisk temps – short session! Don't get me wrong. I love to photograph, and will go all day if possible. But on this particular day, it did not take long before I couldn't feel my fingers or toes. It really is amazing what 19 degrees and a little wind will do to motivate a photo shoot to a speedy conclusion. This was the briefest and efficient shoot I have ever been a part of. Things moved fast and small talk was kept to a minimum. My flash had fresh juice but the cold sucked the power and left it recycling like I had been clicking off pics for hours.

There was a moment just before we called it a day that I noticed a little tear welling up in the corner of Jeannie’s eye, and I thought - How sweet, she is really feeling the emotion of the moment….then I realized it was because she was so cold she could hardly blink. The poor girl was just this side of cold blindness. Sorry Jeannie for not stopping sooner, you & Chris are just too much fun to photograph! See you on Sunday….. INSIDE!
