A New Year

The New Year is just a few days away. Life has been good. Happy healthy grandkids, new ones on the way, some life chsnges, shop changes and above all more joy.

We get so busy with everyday living we forget to slow down and enjoy ourselves. Sit quietly and enjoy a day, take time with loved ones, find your passion, volunteer your time. All wothin our means no matter how rich or poor we are.

As for the shop, I will add a few new items , delete a few and enjoy my time crocheting.

Life gets busy and I seem to neglect this blog. The babies we had last year are all walking and I cannot wait to make some new fun hats for this winter season.

Each one is so very different. So with their varied personalities, I am trying to make some new hats to suit each of them. Keep watching to see just what I come up with and I will let you know if they were a big hit with the kiddos and Mommies.

Time to think of fun, cute economical Halloween costumes. Remember when, (now this is going to give my age away) you just wore an old shirt and dirtie your face and went as a hobo. Put om a dress of Moms, some high heels and a hat. Not so much anymore. #HALLOWEEN is big business, and kids being kids want to be this year's in character or idol. The costumes available are not always well fitting or comfy. Why not try a costume alternative tht keeps on giving. Let me give you a few examples

what about an adorable Boston Terrier pup. Match up one of out hats with a set of black sweats, or gor the very little ones a fun diaper cover with a stubby little tail. By the way we can make a tail to be attached to the sweats for the bigger kids or even you.

How about some grey sets and this fun rhino hat, the little ones also Ave the diaper cover option.

Feel more like a Pug pup, we can help you there also, sets or diaper cover this is a cute set.

We have many other fun hat options that paired up with some comfy clothes can make a great costume, fun play clothes and winter hat. What about a teddy be to math a cozy blanket sleeper, the options are endless.

Our Baby Boom

Our family baby boom has come to an end with the arrival of Kiarah on Tuesday. That makes four new babies this year. My niece also had a baby in April so this Christmas should be wonderful, five new little people to love. My mom who is 80 cannot wait to snuggle a;ll these new little family members. I on the other hand have a whole new set of models for my hats.

These are my newest loves. I count my blessing daily, four beautiful healthy babies and mine to spoil and love. With all this cuddling and family I have been trying to get some hats together for a show , but up until now I am just working on orders and find myself on Pinterest looking for new ideas for this bunch. Halloween was discussed by the two older guys,

should the babies be ninja turtles, what about minions and last but not least paw patrol. Paw Patrol has seemed to win so those hats are in the works. Visit us on Facebook to see how things are coming along.

I am not known for being patient and waiting for things to happen. We have our 4th and final baby due August 4th and I am on pins and needles. A little girl finally. Now do not get me wrong I LOVE my boys all six of them but it will be nice to #crochet some pink and purple stuff for a change. Right about now is when I start to work on hats for #Halloween and the upcoming Christmas season. Boston Terriers are still very popular and I am adding some new items to the shop.

I am busy and will keep right on crocheting until her arrival. No name has been chosen yet so the boys and Grandpa have nicknamed her BOB. Minions and rhinos are next up on my list. Summer is moving quickly and the holidays will be here before you know it.

Busy Time

Today finds me finishing up some orders for my Etsy shop, waiting on a call about the possible birth of our newest Great Grandson and putting together the menu for our upcoming family party. With so many grandkids and such busy schedules a few years back we decided to hold a Summer Birthday Bash. Carsen has chosen the theme again this year. A FIESTA !

Decorations have been gathered, the yard work is done nd now presents and food. With any luck all three of this year's new babies will attend. That gives this Gramma lots of chances to snuggle with them.
This is also the final week of school so as of Wednesday, I will no longer have those hours of silence to grt my things done. How long before "I'm bored" sets in? My bet is for Friday, Tab does not know how to amuse herself.

Our littlest guy , as of right now finally came home after 6 weeks in the NICU and has discovered his best friend, also his Mom's. My oldest Grandson Joe. He is always there for her and now AJ.

With so much going on I still have time to find new items for the shop and unwind while I crochet.

I forgot o mention that during our Fiesta we are having a baby shower for our final by of the year. I am jut about babied out, I think since January I ve bought at leat NE if everything in the baby department.

Can you blame me with aces like these?

Miracles Happen Everyday

Our family has been blessed with an abundance of happy healthy babies. In April we welcomed little AJ , he shook things up a bit. During moms pregnancy they were able to see he would be born with gastrosesis, part of his intestines outside of his body. I am still amazed at the miracles that happen at American Family Childrens Hospital. With in two days of being born, needing to be #resuscitated his abdominal opening was closed and he was on the road to recovery. The dark mass in the bottom corner of the top picture is his intestines in what they call a silo.

He was born on April 19th and is going home today. No tubes, monitors or problems. He is now just like every other baby, but has a special belly button, custom made.

During his almost 6 week stay we were fortunate enough to stay at #Ronald Mc Donald House in Madison, because of the kindness shown to us there I am running a special in my Etsy shop, for each hat purchase I will donate two dollars to the Madison House. Another way you can help locally is to save all your #pulltabs and drop them off at your RMH. They are turned into cash to help make families stays there just a little bit better.

They Grow So Fast

It seems like only yesterday I became a Grandma. Very exciting, and I had a good teacher......my Gram was the best. Now #1 Grandson will soon turn 26, where does the time go. He is the Dad to two wonderful boys with another one due in a few weeks.

My third Grandchild Elizabeth gave me yet another adorable great Grandson in January.

Before September will will have one more Great Grandson and our first Great Granddaughter. How exciting.

Last summer at our analysis summer birthday bash we took a group photo for my Mom in Florida who is a huge Cubs fan, this time we will have 3 new babies in it .

Here is my gang, we were only mixing one Granddaughter.

They keep me busy and very happy, especially when I get those calls to make them something. Like a monkey hat or a kindergarten show. CARSEN will be adorable, Ps I had to dye shorts and thirty brown and make a tail to match.

I love being a Great Gramma even more than Gramma, who knew that was possible.

Coming Up For Air

I have been away from my blog for far too long. Let me see if I can get you caught up. My great grandson JJ has aspergers, we are all learning with him. My niece who lives with us has been diagnosed with ADHD.
A little over two years ago my Mom was diagnosed with COLON CANCER, I was terrified. The months of chemo were met with a good outlook and lots of positive vibes. Just 6 months later, we found out the cancer was back and now in the colon, liver and lungs. The emotion hit you all at the same time. Fear, anger, and constant worry for what would come next. We recieved a call in August, that my husbands younger brother was very ill, he wanted me to come. I had no idea those few wekks would be his last. COPD and emphazema would take him from us. In early November we found that my sister in law was also in the final stages of cancer. So much senseless pain. With news of a new Grandbaby es coming in 2015, Mom faced the chemo again. After a few session she was too weak and I'll to continue. About this same time my sister in law lost her battle. We were numb.
December brought us all together for our annual Family Christmas party, although Mom had been in an assisted living home since right before Thanksgiving, she came. Exhausted from the hour long car ride, she wanted to be sure to see everyone, including her older sister from Florida. The visit was heart breaking to watch. We all thought the worst but we're afraid to speak it out loud. W posed for the 5 generation photo and she hugged her little guys as much as she could.

January brought my 4th Great Grandson Jacob, another blessing!

My granddaughter Elizabeth and her baby Jacob. Luckily Mom got to see photos and ooh and ah over this little one.

February had us fooled, Mom was having no pain and seemed to be eating and doing well, until I got the phone call to come. She had taken a turn and was unresponsive. I was terrified. I have two sisters who were far away in Tulsa, there was no time to come and honestly I am glad only I had to witness the end. One moment Mom was there and the next she had slipped quietly away. She had never asked for pain meds.

Our next family battle would be awaiting the birth of the next great grandson, he would need medical care because og gastoschisis. Two doctors visits per week, many ultrasounds and non stress tests later and he arrived 4 weeks early.

Aiden with my Grandaughter, his Mom Christina. We were warned there would be months ahead of him for recovery, yet in about a week he has come so far.

I think that has you about caught up. We are awaiting the birth of 2 more great grand babies in June nd August. We are truly blessed.

My Gram used to tell us , God never gives us more than we can handle, and that God always has a plan. Are we stronger as a family? I would say yes, did each child learn from watching Mom, yes, they learned o show love and compassion. I am so proud of all of them.

Finally Fall my favorite season. With that said it is my busiest time as people get ready for Halloween, and then holiday shopping. My life is pretty busy and I am crocheting between school visits, Dr. visits and family stuff. But, let me share some of the fun stuff I have gotten done.

Life in general

In one of my last posts I had stated I was going to get organized. Laughable, me , not now and maybe never. I have many reason or as my daughter says excuses. I am the oldest daughter to my Mom who is battling cancer and lives nearby. ( about 1 1/2 hours away) My sisters live in Tulsa so that is about 15 hours away. I have 5 grown kids, 11 grandkids and 3 great grandsons. I am a control freak, or so I have been told and try to oversee their problems whenever I can. Right now my Mom is in the hospital with an UTI and JJ one of the great grandsons is in the process of being tested for Aspergers and has SPD. I also just found out my Granddaughter will be having her first baby in January. I am raising a 6 year old niece who has ODD and have a hubby who we are driving crazy. With all this I crochet to keep sane and make some extra spending money as I can always find something one of them might need or want. All that said the announcement of a new baby had me wanting to make teddy bears. What color I was not sure so I tried my hand at these two and then did get them listed on etsy.

I have also started to get my Christmas list going. I can crochet in the car on our long rides to and from Montello. Yes, I worry alot, but would not change any of them one bit. I am truly blessed.

Organizing

Somewhere I read that artistic people are very disorganized. I believe it, because I am. I also have not enough hours in the day. With all of this in mind I am making an attempt to get organized so I can make the most of the time before the holidays. I have a daughter who is so organized she has a houseful of belongings neatly tucked away in a 3 room apartment and knows where everything is and can find it. Not so for me.
This is going to sound like excuses but I just want to give you a little insight into my life.

I have a husband ( married over 40 years)
I have a 6 year old niece ( she lives with us)
2 dogs
My Mother is undergoing chemo for a second time
I have 5 grown kids
11 grandkids
3 great grandsons
am learning about SPD and aspergers
have an etsy shop
working on a garden
love to paint
have a decorating wish list
have MG and a pace maker

Now if these things come at me a few at a time I am good. But some days it seems like all of it needs my attention right now and I get scattered and not very productive.

I have decided to schedule my day and set aside time for each of the days projects. Of course I have to be flexible in case I get that urgent call.

I have found a picture of my perfect work room, hubby was not impressed and I would have to build onto the house to get it , but a girl can dream, can't she?

I spend quite alot of time trying to figure out just what people type in when they are shopping on Etsy .

I notice some people have cute names for their items , while others are very simple and straight forward. I myself stop and think if I was looking for something what words would I use. With this in mind over the next week or so I will be revamping my shop. I am adding a section for gift sets. Now that can be a sweater , hat and booties ( which by the way makes a great sgower gift) or maybe a Boston Terrier hat with matching lovey blanket. Maybe a spa set with cotton slippers, washcloth and face scrubbies. I am getting all this worked out. There will also be some new items added to the fox and a new dalmation. I am hoping the dalmation gets as much attention as the Boston Terrier has.

I will also begin gearing up for Halloween ( yes, I know it is only June) Think sensible costume alternatives. Match an animal hat with a pair of sweats and think of all the wear they can get out of both. The hat can be worn all winter and the sweats will keep them snug on those chilly days.

Changing things up

Recently we have had some "things" come up with the #1 great grandson. Etsy shop so that I can raise some money to get him some of the things that will make his life easier and make more sense. He has a preliminary diagnosis of Aspergers and we where all really thrown. I have been reading all I can get my hands on while crocheting to get orders out. I love my customers, they are not seasonal shoppers but have seen all the ways my hats and such can be used throughout the year. Thank you to all of you! I am going to be adding some new items that can be added to other items to make great baby shower gift sets. Blankets that match, booties, lovies and all with the option of color choices. There will also be a sale page , there I will discount items that I no longer will be making . I would also love to hear what kinds of hats you would like to see, designing the animals is so much fun for me and it combines two of my favorite things...drawing and crochet. I am hoping to add a page with sensory items such as weighted blankets or lap mats, and even at my grandsons request a weighted boa to wrap around when life seems overwhelming. Keep watching.

Blessed is the best way I can describe how I feel right now. The last few weeks have been hectic and stressful. I spent a long test full day in the ER, to find out I am fine. Pains were not my heart and maybe a sign I need to relax. Then my best friend, someone more like a sister and confidant was scheduled for heart surgery. She has to have a valve replaced, my younger sister had a heart attack and we found out that my Mother has to once again start chemo. Kids and Grandkids are all safe and well and everything else seems so trivial. Well this evening after about 6 hours I got word that my friend had come through surgery and was resting in ICU. Prayers have been answered and although she has a tough road ahead . I am thankful she is on her way to better days.

This is my dear friend #JeanDawidziak and her hubby "otherwise known as Montello's Easter Bunny" Two nicer people you will never meet. If you want to see for yourself , give her a little bit to get back on her feet and visit her at The Teapot Quilt Cottage in #Montello. During the summer stop off there or at the farm stand by Kwik Trip for the best sweet corn in the county!

The Big Chill Ends

Good Morning, it is sunny and only -4 this morning. That means we have made it through the worst and can now talk about it. No frozen pipes, kids off school 5 days in a row and we are all still civil.
We ventured out into the cold yesterday when I needed crochet thread for a christening gown I am working on. An emergency? In my book YES. I only bought one ball, not knowing if I would like working with #3 thread , rather than baby yarn. I love how it looks and now can't wait to finish it. I am then going to try and make a slip for this delicate vintage pattern Christening gown. I bought the pattern from an Etsy shop ,

As I stitch away I can see my Gram smiling from ear to ear. She crocheted almost her whole life. We grew up in things she made and our babies all came home in her sweater sets, got Christened in her gowns and off to school in her hooded sweaters. She could look at something and just figure it out, I wish I was that talented.
I do have a few new things up my sleeve and if I finish my blanket squares and a few orders I can start on three new puppy hats, a chow, bassett hound and yorkie. I have to make myself finish before I can start more. I also have a lamb and baby bird drawn out and waiting to be hooked. I may have to forget cleaning house, have leftovers and just stay up later to get this all done.

I am off to sit in the sunshine and work on projects, stay warm and safe and have a wonderful productive day!

Baby It's Cold Outside

I don't know about you, but I have seen the snow, have been cold and am ready for spring. We are into a three day stretch of sub zero days and enough is enough. On my face book page I am running a giveaway for a cute pug or sock monkey hat to make the cold weather a little more fun. The kids have had school cancelled, we are all in and if you just look out the window it is sunny, but looks can be deceiving. The wind chill is around -25 Brrrrrrrr.
So to keep warm and busy I am baking bread, working on a few new projects and finishing up orders. Hubby will brave the cold to make a run to the Post Office and Walmart for odds and ends.
Now, I know it cold be worse, we could be getting huge amounts of heavy, wet snow, or there could be an ice storm, so I will try not to complain but take this time to snuggle up with my yarn and enjoy the sunlight.
Later I will put on a big pot of soup and the bread in the oven and the house will smell wonderful.
I am trying my hand at writing out a pattern I came up with. I can make them up and crochet them, but can I write them out so someone else can understand and follow them, that is the question. I hope so. This is my new hat, the pug, now there are pug hats out there but I did not like the faces, so I came up with my own. How, much like when I used to paint on rocks and wood. I drew it out and then stitched it .

My husband calls this craziness, I love it!

That about describes the weather here in Wisconsin. School has been called off because of the extreme cold and will be closed again tomorrow. That means , " can I have a snack will be said about fifty times and constant chatter by two little girls. I on the other hand am busy finishing up some orders and working on my square a day for Crochet Mood Blanket 2014, on Facebook. I have also joined http://www.ravelry.com/groups/crazysocks--friends square a week crochet along. I am using up all my odds and ends and will use the blankets for raffle prizes at our family Christmas next December.
Orders seem to come in spirts, the minions were hot around Halloween, just before Christmas I was busy with fox hats and now, Boston Terrier hats. One of my customers was nice enough to share this photo with me.

I am trying to work up a few new items for Valentines Day and then onto bunnies and such for spring and Easter. Luckily I can sit in front of a sunny window and try to not think just how cold it is outdoors.
To warm the kitchen this morning I treated everyone to these Donut Muffins. The kitchen was warm and smelled wonderful. Now to get a pot of soup simmering and a loaf of bread in the oven and we should be good.

The New Year rang in on a quiet note here. I had 5 little ones waiting up to see the ball drop and 2 made it . LOL New Years Day breakfast found some grumpy faces as well as hearty appetites for chocolate chip pancakes and a special order of eggs and sausage from our masked man.

I also added a new project for the year , Crochet Mood Blanket 2014 every day depending on my mood or stash color I will be making not one but two squares. These squares will be put together into a blanket next winter. I have decided to use mine as a grab bag gift for our next family Christmas. Depending on the size I could get three out of the 730 squares I will have.

Taking a Breath

After all the excitement of Christmas, a house overflowing with family and more cookies than one person should eat, I find myself looking toward the New Year and all that it will bring. First on my list is to become more organized! They say you can teach an old dog new tricks, and I am hoping that is true, because I could use to be more organized. Both in my everyday life and in my Etsy shop.
Having gotten a five year old late last spring, by the way she keeps me young, LOL. I had to redo many of my routines to fit around, her, school and all that goes with being now six. I need to have time to answer the hundreds of "why" questions and can I have a snack zillions of times a day. On top of that I have five grown kids, eleven grandkids and three great grand sons, along with a few kids we just tossed in for good measure. A hubby, two small dogs and that rounds out my life. Busy, yes but very blessed.
My Etsy shop that I started a few years ago, for a way to sell a few things has done very well, but I know could be better if I used my time wisely and planned ahead. So, that is on my New Years to do list.

The Happy Dance

It is that time of year again, when the kids prepare for the start if school. The final BBQ with family before school starts. I have to confess I for one will be doing the happy dance in the driveway as Tabitha leaves for her first day of 1st grade. We have had Tab since May and I have to say that on any given day she says Aunt Pat about a hundred times. I am tired just from answering. LOL We have practiced reading and she will be starting with some good work skills and hopefully enjoy this new teacher. Also this means it is craft show time again. Crocheting mainly hats, I find that summer shows are very slow and so I wait for fall and the pre Christmas shows. My first show will be a week from today in Waupun Wisconsin at Volkfest. Great polka music all day, delicious food and spending the day new a good friend Marlene who owns #Country Soaps by Marlene. We get to chat and catch up while selling, listening to music and an occasional beer. I have been behind with my hat making due to my new kid duties so will have to step it up. This is alos the same time that orders increase in my Etsy shop due to Halloween orders for the animal hats and early Chrsitmas orders. So far the most asked for hat this season would be the minion and for the littlest ones a rhino. You can never tell from year to year what will be the hit so I just keep on crocheting and go with the flow.

My newest favorites have been the little fox and boston terrier, so much fun and my new motto is "LET NO EARS GO UNCOVERED" so I must find a hat for everyone. That means I should get off the computer and crochet.

Blessings can mean different things to different people. I have been blessed I think with a large wonderful family. No, the siblings are not as close as we once were but, I do believe in times of stress we would all rally together. I hope. I have five wonderful kids who have been healthy and relatively happy, and who combined habe given me twelve grandkids and now three great grand sons. Blessed by customers who during our recent heat wave ordered so that I could get the air fixed. Thank you again, it is not pretty here when the heat is on......it is hard to crochet while you are sweating.
Yesterday I received another blessing, I have been looking for a pattern for the Christening gown my Grandmother made my daughter Kathy, back in 1974. It had a long coat and bonnet and I wanted to make a few to put away for my granddaughters and then sell on my #etsy shop. I looked everywhere and posted about it in a Facebook group. :ast night I got a message that someone had the book and would make me a copy of that long lost pattern. I couldn't sleep last night I was so excited. That #Christening gown was my #Grandmothers pride and joy.

This pinafore was another of my Gram's favorites and all my girls had them in multiple colors.

As I sit typing this I think how proud my Gram would be of all of us and how amazed that I finally picked up the crochet hook and made something other than granny squares.

As soon as I receive the new gown pattern I am starting on it , until then I am finishing up a few other projects and getting a few things made for upcoming fall #shows.

I should know better by now, but I asked for summer to finally get here and it did. I don't know if I posted about this before but I HATE hot weather. I am a 70's kind of gal. Cool nights and warm days. To make it worse I have Myasthenia Gravis which is triggered by hot and cold. Now, I wasn't worried because we had a central air unit. Having moved in in November we were unsure of how well it worked. Well. it was empty and that wasn't bad enough the coil in the furnace needs to be replaced. $450.00 and I can be cool. I am crossing my fingers and pushing the Etsy shop to help me make this happen.
I need customers to think ahead to Halloween, animal hat make great costume alternative matched up with a pair of sweats or a blanket sleeper.

What about baby showers, there is always someone we know having a baby.

and If I haven't given you enough to think about Christmas is right around the corner. Order a special hat and mitt set or scarf and hat, for that special guy , what about a beard hat or a hat with a pocket for the mp3 player while they jog or run.

Ok I know I was asking for summer but, I need my air fixed and I HATE being hot. shop or share my etsy shop and help me get to my goal of 450.00 so I can chill out again LOL

It seems as if summer has just arrived but as I check the calendar it is July already. For crafters this is not summer vacation but time to get ready for the holidays. That seems silly but the time to make sure you have enough stock for shows and the shop orders before you get swamped with holiday orders. Being swamped would be a good thing but this year I have a plan to be prepared so I can also enjoy the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Long before people start searching for Christmas I need to be ready for the Halloween rush. In years past I have made a point of showing Moms just how easy it is to add a fun animal hat to a pair of sweats or a blanket sleeper for a fun costume alternative. The hat can be worn all winter and the sweats or blanket sleeper used again. Here in Wisconsin we never know what weather we will have on Halloween, a light jacket or the snow suit so these hats and costume suggestions are a good idea. No masks needed and the kids are comfy and cozy as the trick or treat of play at home long afterward.I am working on some new baby sets that will make great gifts for holidays or an upcoming baby shower. Some of the fun animal hats will include fingerless mitts this season and I am adding to the fox items as well as those colorful owls,sock monkeys and a few surprises.
