The weather turns cloudier this Indiana Weekend, with a slight shower chance Saturday mid to late afternoon and evening.  Sunday looks rainy.  Highs could reach 60 on Saturday from Indy southward, but will fall back to the low to mid 50’s Sunday.

We’re coming off a nice 4-day stretch of sunny 60’s.  Indianapolis peaked with a high of 67 Friday.

The Zionsville Chapter of Tri Kappa throws a party this evening, and I’m hosting with WXIN/59’s Ray Cortopassi. Ooo la la! It starts at 7pm at “Brown’s,” which is at Main & Oak.

All of Tri Kappa’s proceeds go back into the Boone county area in the form of scholarships and grants. There’s a silent auction of purses filled with items that have been donated, and then some purses will be auctioned off in a live auction.

You’ll hear sirens today sometime between 10:15 and 10:30am, and again this evening between 7:30 and 7:45. The Annual Statewide Tornado Test Drill is part of Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Indiana.

Tornado Facts:

  1. Indiana had 11 tornadoes last year; the average is 20; the most: 49 in 1990.
  2. The average forward speed is 30 mph but varies from 0 to 70 mph.
  3. The average tornado width is about 100 yards but can reach one mile wide.
  4. Tornadoes can happen year round, but are most likely between 3 and 8pm, with a second peak from Midnight to 3am.
