These photos were taken by Greenwood photographer Rachael Hughes during our shoot this past Thursday. It was a very successful day.

Isaac Braaten played young Samuel Lander. He knocked it out of the park!

Michael Genevie was remarkable as the adult version of Samuel Lander. David Wright, our Director of Photography for the dramatic sequences is holding the camera standing in front of me.

I'm making a movie

Most of our regular readers know that I have been in production on a documentary project since August '08. This week is a big week for our production as we are filming a few of our key dramatic scenes at Sundance Studios here in Greenwood. This has involved casting, lighting, props, costumes, extras, etc. and I am excited to see it all come together.

Because of this, I will be away from Blogging Mission Control for several days including our regularly scheduled caption contest day. Please feel free to scroll through the archives at your leisure. I shall return shortly.

This photo is on the front page of our local paper this morning. The gentlemen in the red shirt is Charles Fretwell. He taught a two hour "Art of Barbeque" class yesterday at the Arts Center in uptown Greenwood at the Federal Building. The guy at the end of the table staring intently is my buddy Zig also known as the Swell Guy.

The class leads to the big KCBS BBQ cookoff in conjunction with the Festival of Discovery taking place in Greenwood next week. My friends Dennis and Debbie Dill who make-up the award winning BBQ cooking team known as Divine Smoke will be participating once again. This year Food Network will be here filming their Food Network Challenge following the Divine Smoke team around along with three other teams. It should be an exciting competition.

Zig, the host of Sauce Wars, is already a BBQ master in my book so attending a class such as this will only push him over the top to some sort of BBQ Jedi Master.

I like to play golf in my backyard. These guys like to build jet engines in theirs. COOL!

I have been playing golf in my yard since I was an eight year old boy. When we lived on Essex in Mattoon, Illinois I mowed a green at the end of the two lots adjacent to our house and I used to spend hours pitching and chipping golf balls. I have pretty much kept that hobby up throughout my life. About two years ago I presented my wife with the idea of putting a synthetic turf chipping/putting green in our yard here in Greenwood. We built our our house and I designed the yard as a dog-leg of sorts which lent itself perfectly for yard golf. Because I have the greatest wife ever, I now have a nice 600 square foot green in the yard along with two main (one elevated) tee boxes and about a dozen chipping areas. We decided to turn our hobby into a business...Golf at Home is the result. My turf supplier is X-Grass . The quality and variety of synthetic turf available is astounding. This is not your Momma's astro-turf.

A home green has many advantages.

1. It's fun

2. I've had some awesome match play competitions with my neighbor Tom and others.

3. You don't have to pay $75.00 for greens fees and put up with snobby jerks

4. I can play as little or as long as I wish

5. I can work on my short game and improve my overall golf score

6. Playing putt putt matches with my wife and kids and other guests is good clean fun

7. It's a good decompression chamber for me after work

I edited a little video from my front tee box (42 yards) to some cool jazz by Thelonius Monk. I hit a few shots this afternoon in the 96 degree heat (101 heat index). Hope you enjoy it.

Zig shipped it for me and was on the bike when we met for lunch on a cool fall day. Thus the water bottle holder became the BBQ cage. I've got one with your name on it for a win this week.

I had a very good discussion with my friend Clyde this evening as we shared a dinner at Sundance Studios here in Greenwood. We were both attending a wedding rehearsal dinner for a mutual friend who will be walking down the aisle tomorrow afternoon.

Our discussion turned to the frailty of time.

I was reminded this week and specifically today about how arrogant I am in regards to chronological order. I take time for granted. You do too. We all assume we are guaranteed a day called tomorrow. We are not. Clyde and his wife experienced a reminder this week as well and it was nice to be able to just sit and talk about the goodness of God and the importance of doing things now.

I am thankful both for the reminder and for the conversation from an encouraging friend.
