This story breaks my heart. That poor dog was just doing his job when he was gunned down by a police officer. The police officer apparently felt "threatened" by the dog.

This just in! The University of Florida has called Dino's owner, Brooke, and gave her some GREAT news! Dino's heart condition was not what they thought it was at all! Even better, they believe they can CURE it with the proper medications! This is amazing! Dino has a bright future ahead of him filled with many more years of fun and play. I could not be happier for Dino and Brooke!

Soctopus

Because the World Cup is going on, I thought I would inform everyone about Paul the soctopus! He is a common octopus with a not so common talent. He can predict soccer matches! Paul the amazing animal oracal actually accruately predicted which team would win in several different matches during the World Cup in 2010. Sadly our friend Paul is no longer with us, but maybe he's watching over the games and giving the USA a little extra luck. Rest easy Paul, you were a one of a kind who will never be replaced!

Doggie Days of Summer

We're starting to enter into the hottest days of the year. With that being said, it is extremely important to make sure your dogs are kept cool and comfortable just like you! Here are some tips on keeping your furry friends from being fiery friends.

1. Make sure your dogs stay hydrated. Inside or outside pooches they need cool clean water available to them at all times. Dehydration is all too common in most pets simply because they cannot handle the heat. Dehydration can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, and be a precursor to heat stroke.

2. Make sure your dogs have ample shade. Just like water keeping out of direct sunlight is crucial for pets in the summer as well. Being in the sun for too long can lead to heat stroke. It can also bleach a pups pretty coat!

3. Proper heart worm preventatives. Many people do not know this, but mosquitos can carry deadly heart worms. Anyone who lives in the south knows that mosquitoes are basically the state bird for many southern states. Giving your dogs heart worm pill can help to eliminate their risk of becoming infested.

4. Just relax and have some fun in the sun!

I cannot imagine this happening to one of my pets. This is so terrifying. Our pets are like our best friends and losing one like this just breaks my heart. My Three Dogs, a business in Mount Pleasant, SC gave the lifeless body of Mouffie, the poodle, to her owner, Margaret Ann Morris, last Tuesday. Mouffie was under the care of the My Three Dogs staff when she was bit by another dog. The owners claimed the bite was not bad, but it really wouldn't take much to hurt the six pound ball of fluff. A statement was made by the owners stating that Mouffie had a seizure which caused another to bite her, but Morris believes that the dog's bite caused Mouffie to lose her breath. The owners claim that the Morris was called three times to ask permission to bring the dog to the emergency vet, but was denied each time they asked. Morris states that they did call to inform her about the bite but did not explain the severity of the incident or ask to take Mouffie to the vet. Mouffie's owner has started a petition that every employee in a SC pet facility be pet CPR certified. You can sign this petition here.

Dino's Heart

My good friend, Brooke, has the most adorable Boxer named Dino. Dino has a rare heart condition that has been misdiagnosed several times. His condition causes him to have what Brooke calls "episodes". When Dino has one of his episodes, it is really quite scary. He has trouble breathing, his eyes roll in the back of his head, and sometimes he even needs to be given mouth to mouth. Brooke has been taking him to the University of Florida Vet school where they are doing tests on him. Dino's last visit was one of the most crucial in diagnosing his condition. A heart monitor was placed on his chest to measure his heart rate and other vital signs during an episode. Dino is a very rare case and finding out exactly what is condition is could benefit other dogs who have been misdiagnosed as well. I will keep you all up to date on Dino's progress!

I am Jackie, I am a student at the College of Charleston, I am an animal lover and the owner of two dogs and a horse, I am well educated on the care, responsibility, and maintenance it takes to own pets.

Growing up I always loved animals. Any kind of animal. I loved everything from scaly snakes to fluffy puppies. My best friend's mom was a veterinarian so I was always around tons of different kinds of animals. I learned to care for baby squirrels, feed lambs, trim horse's hooves, and properly bandage wounds. I have spent a lot of time around animals and still continue to do so. Animals don't have a voice and cannot care for themselves as well as they deserve to be cared for. I believe that it is our responsibility to treat them with the care and respect they deserve. This blog is dedicated to help people understand that our pets are more than just animals. They are our best friends, they are understanding, and they are dependent on us to help give them the love and care that they need and deserve.
