All I can say is "wow"..... maybe they need some help in learning how to communicate!!

Va. SPCA exec's dog dies after 4 hours in hot car
RICHMOND, Va. — An executive for an anti-animal cruelty group says her 16-year-old blind and deaf dog died after she accidentally left him in her hot car for four hours.

Robin Starr, the CEO of the Richmond Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, says she didn't realize "Louie" was in the car until noon. Starr's husband, Ed, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch he put the dog in her car as she got ready for work Aug. 19. She often took the dog to work with her.

Robin Starr took the dog to two clinics, but he died of kidney failure.
The National Weather Service says the temperature had reached 91 degrees by noon that day.
The board of the SPCA says it still supports Starr, who has been CEO since 1997 and does not plan to resign. It was unclear whether she would be charged.

PCA is the focus of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigation into potential salmonella contamination of peanut butter and paste made at its Blakely, Georgia facility.

Although PetSmart is not aware of any reported cases of illness related to these products, it has removed these products from its store shelves and website and is conducting the recall as a precautionary measure.

Did you know that many dog tags are made from zinc and plated with nickel? And you may not know that zinc is toxic and potentially fatal to both our dogs and cats.

At Pawsatively Dapper we sell zinc-free and I might add adorable Red Dingo enamel coated stainless steel tags....no zinc in these puppies.

I vended at Woof It Up Dog Ownership Day this weekend in Cocoa Village.

And, I know I've said this before, but let's all remember the shelters when it's time to bring a new friend into our lives.

There were a multitude of breed specific shelters out there, and I had the privledge of being next to the Great Dane rescue group. And, while I sat there a new baby came to them right there at the show. A beautiful but skinny white Great Dane mix with beautiful blue eyes. The volunteers were guessing her to be between 1 and 1 1/2 years old. She was deaf and had been roaming the streets of Miami.

There is a special place for all the rescue workers. And to be honest, I'm not really sure how they do it, how they cope, but I'm certainly glad that there's people out there that can. Me personally, I'd be an emotional wreck, so need to keep my assistance more towards the financial end with food drives, Pooch Pawtys, and hosting events at my shop.

So let's do what we can to help, whatever and however we can, because every little bit will help these poor poochies and the people who give so tirelessly of themselves.

Pet Foods Making People Sick

You may already know that Mars Petcare U.S. recalled several pet foods within the last month or so due to contamination.

It's now being discovered that these foods, which at this point should now be off all store shelves, may still be lingering in peoples homes.

Some people handling these kibbles are becoming infected with salmonella according to the U.S. Center for Disease Control.

It is recommended that everyone wash their hands after handling kibbles, and more importantly prevent infants and the elderly from handling kibbles entirely as they are more susceptible to the illness.

Plastic Dog Bowl Cautions

There have been some concerns regarding the use of plastic pet bowls. It has been suggested that toxic chemicals react with our pet(s) foods and water and leach into those items and hence into our beloved pets. And, with all the latest recalls, etc., I'm of the opinion....why risk it.

I recommend good quailty stainless steel bowls. I drink from a stainless steel water bottle to avoid leaching toxins so why shouldn't my pet? Now, I know what you're thinking, not pretty right? Well, there are a variety of different options in stainless, engraved, embossed, and even simply putting a plain stainless steel bowl in to a decorative raised feeder will help enhance your decor. With rising gas prices, lead contaminated toys, and tainted foods, who hasn’t become more conscience about ways to conserve, where our products come from and what we’re actually feeding our families. And, of course, that includes our fur-babies.

Not sure what to do?? Not sure what steps to take to become greener? Think it’s too hard? It’s not too hard, it only takes a little reading on your part, and small changes make a huge difference.

I started my journey to become a little bit greener with Chartruse Life. Helping The Shelters

This is a local organization that will collect your "metal" garbage. They'll take anything from your old ironing board to your out of date washing machine.

All you have to do is place your old items outside, get in touch with Metal for Mutts, and they'll do the rest. They'll come by and take all your old junk away and in the process you'll be helping the homeless pets at the Central Brevard Humane Society.

And, with more than 10,000 animals euthanized a year in our county alone, my hats are off to these people for such an ingenious idea.

Wow.......what if everyone did something like this in their community. Couldn't you just imagine the results???

It doesn't have to be metal, it can be anything at all -- can you think of a way to help the environment and your local abandoned pets???

Are you sure the dog food you're feeding is of good or even great quality?

We all want to feed the absoulte best to our babies to ensure a long, healthy life. I was quite surprised to realize that what I thought was a great quality food only rated 2 out of 6 stars on www.dogfoodanalysis.com, an independent pet food review site.

There's a lot of information contained in this site, including an analysis of your brand of food, reasons why the food was rated the way it was, as well as food discussion groups.

A family had lost their beloved pet. They did the usual, posted fliers, banged on doors, and walked the streets in the night to find their dog. All with no success. After a week they had almost given up, and then discovered

Within 24 hours Fischer was back home safe and sound.

This site will call between 500 to 5,000 of your neighbors advising that your pet has gone missing. Your neighbors will hear a description of your pet, a number to call with information, and instructions on where to see a photo.

We're happy to hear Fischer was reunited with his family. We hope you never need such a service, but if you do this is certainly a unqiue way to get the word out fast.

The first, is a horrific story about a dog named Ella. Ella's owner left her in her crated in an empty house for two months without food or water.
