Easy Ways to Improve Your Bounce Rate

Build it, and they will come. When referring to website visitors this mantra may (or may not) be true, but that’s only part of the story. What truly matters is what happens when your visitors reach your site. If they glance at it and don’t like what they see, they will leave without performing any actions. That’s called a bounce, and that’s usually a bad sign.

What is a Bounce Rate?

One of the more important site metrics that Google Analytics measures is bounce rate. They define a site’s bounce rate as “single-page sessions divided by all sessions, or the percentage of all sessions on your site in which users viewed only a single page and triggered only a single request to the Analytics server”. In other words, the number of times a visitor arrives at your site and leaves without visiting any other pages, divided by the total number of visitor sessions on your site over any given period.

What is an Acceptable Bounce Rate?

It’s important to recognize that your website will probably never achieve a 0% bounce rate. There will always be people who come to it and leave without performing any other action. Maybe they clicked on it by accident. Maybe they scanned it quickly and decided it wasn’t what they were looking for. Maybe they bookmarked your site with the intention of coming back later. Whatever the reason, people will come and go from your website, and a significant bounce rate is a natural result.

The question then remains, what is an acceptable bounce rate?

Based on the data gathered in the Rocket Fuel Study, here’s a bounce rate grading system of sorts:

25% or lower: Something is probably broken
26-40%: Excellent
41-55%: Average
56-70%: Higher than normal, but could make sense depending on the website
70% or higher: Bad and/or something is probably broken

While there is no definitive answer to this, the general consensus is that a lower bounce rate is preferable to a higher one. Having said that, even Google reminds us that not all sites are created equal and that depending on the goal of your landing page, maybe it’s perfectly acceptable that the visitor has no other action to perform.

If we assume that the majority of landing pages are created with the purpose of funneling a visitor toward a specific action, or series of actions, then a lower bounce rate is preferable. Let’s take a look at 9 easy changes you can make to your website today to improve your bounce rate and keep your visitors on your site longer.

Speed Up Your Page Loading Time

It doesn’t matter how amazing your site’s content is, if your visitors have to wait for the pages to load, they probably aren’t going to stick around long. The days of slow internet are in the past; high-speed internet is everywhere now. It is critical that your site is optimized for speed. This includes using a premium theme (or quality code, if your site is a custom design), being hosted on quality servers, and using proper image compression.

Use an Easy-to-Read Layout

How many times have you gone to a website and thought “Yuck.. what a mess!”? Content might be king, but if it’s not displayed well, the message is going to get lost along the way. Choose your colours carefully. Use headings and smaller paragraphs. Include images or videos in a way that enhances your content, not distracts from it.

Keep Your Content Relevant

Nobody likes change. That’s a given, but there’s nothing worse than out-of-date content. Writing a fantastic post is only the beginning. It’s not enough to hit “publish” and walk away from it. Best practices dictate that you should periodically review your site to give it a quick refresh, and update any content that might need dusting off.

Be Mobile-Friendly

Mobile users are the fastest-growing segment of internet traffic. Don’t make their website experience any less than ideal than that of your desktop visitors. By default, most premium themes are responsive, meaning that the site layout will automatically adjust to match the size of your visitor’s screen. The viewing experience of someone on a computer with a large screen will be comparable to someone using an iPhone or tablet. The site doesn’t merely shrink on the smaller screen. It will automatically resize and change the layout to make maximum use of the limited screen area.

Develop a Well Thought-out Marketing Strategy

Users don’t like pop-up ads. While most websites do have some form of ad revenue generation, excessive use of pop-ups and other advertising strategies are bound to sour a user’s experience. Rather than bombarding a visitor with a bunch of pop-ups, consider minimizing their use and allowing the user to consume the content.

External Links Open in New Window

This is one of those seemingly obvious, but consistently overlooked, ways of improving your site’s bounce rate. Any time you include an external link on your page, ensure that it is set to open in a new tab or window. Why? By their very nature, external links are designs to send your visitor away from your site. While there’s nothing wrong with that, and Google actually likes to see external links on a page, you don’t want to redirect your user completely away from your site. Having an external link open in a new window allows them to view that other page, but still maintain a foot in yours. Think of it as a win-win for everyone.

Link to Relevant Internal Content

It’s equally important to use internal links to relevant content on your site. The key phrase here is “relevant”. You don’t want to send your visitors through a maze of old posts or pages simply to put a check in the “link internally” SEO box. Your objective should be to guide your visitors logically through various topics. If they get confused, they will leave.

Employ a Clear Call to Action

Every page or post must have a clearly defined goal and a single crystal-clear call to action. Do you want your visitor to click to sign up for your newsletter? State that. Do you want readers to comment on your latest blog post? Ask them. There should be no guessing when it comes to the meaning of your page or post.

Site Search

Websites are written by humans for humans. Although Google and other search engines can crawl an entire site at the speed of light, humans use a different method. We like to search for things, so give the users a hand and add a visible search box to your site. You’ll be amazed at how many of them appreciate being able to navigate between topics by entering a word or two into that search box.

The Bottom Line

Anything that you can do to increase the length of time, and overall engagement, of visitors on your site, is worth putting into action.

Join Me on Social Media

Paid press release distribution services syndicate news to their own networks of sites, journalists, bloggers, media outlets, and syndication partners. It places news in front of target customers to ensure that it is effective and successful.

Using a press release site helps a business grow. It establishes a brand,

However, not all paid PR services are created equal. There is good, better, and the best.

Let’s take a look at these press release services and what makes them stand out:

1. Newswire

Newswire is the distribution platform that is best in customer service. Not only that, it offers a wide range of PR services under its hood.

If you’re a business looking for more requirements, this is the exact platform that can provide your need. It offers press release distribution, media monitoring, media database, media outreach, newsroom, and PR strategy.

It offers different plans to fit any budget and size. The basic plan called Premium costs $119.

The plan covers premium network distribution to 250 media outlets and Google News inclusion. It allows up to 6 hyperlinks, up to 4 images, embed video, industry list, up to 2 additional files, autopost on social media accounts (FB and Twitter), share preview to clients, and publish notification through email. Distribution reports are given to clients.

Not only Newswire is “best in customer service,” but it is also the “best in value” as it continues to develop its products to provide more valuable results.

The site provides one of the fastest turnaround time among the PR services in the market. They make sure that your release is error-free despite the quick process.

The site prioritizes the inclusion of multimedia in the release because they understand its importance in search engine optimization and exposure. In other PR companies, clients need to pay extra for adding images and videos.

Based on reviews, the paid distribution site is easy to use, efficient, provides quality work, and excellent customer service. They commended the site’s very responsive team who is ready to give a helping hand throughout the process.

It is suitable for startups and small and medium companies that don’t have big investment for distribution. The site is also recommended for companies that are new to distribution. It’s not hard to use the platform because there is always someone who is ready to assist.

With the platform’s extensive plans, any companies no matter what size can use the site. You can just choose any plan that suits your goals and budget.

2. eReleases

eReleases is a popular wire service for small businesses and startups. It is suitable for companies with a very limited budget. It is recognized for providing wide distribution at an affordable price.

It has been awarded as a “small business leader” due to its quality work at a fair price. The basic plan called Buzz Builder offers syndication of news to at least 60 online media sites, Tier-1 Newswire US national distribution direct to editorial desks, AP and Google News inclusion, and WireWatch proof of distribution report.

It provides writing service for $300. A package of writing and distribution costs $599. First-time clients can get a $100 (33 percent) off on the first distribution basic plan. Instead of paying $299, they just have to pay $199.

Clients who have used the PR site appreciate their responsive team whenever they have inquiries. They quickly answer any queries and return on time.

The site has a proven track of record for generating interest from the media. There are customer reviews that prove that its distribution resulted in mentions or media coverage.

3. PR Web

Distribution of releases can boost the exposure and visibility of a brand. PR Web excels in boosting a company’s online exposure. And the site can reinforce your message without the need for paying an expensive plan that increases traffic and sales.

It is recommended for companies that want to gain more exposure online. It covers many sites and locations in its network.

The basic plan costs $99. It distributes the release to PR Web and other major news sites. Registration is a must but it’s free.

The process starts with registration. The client then chooses the type of distribution they want. They then pay the cost of the plan.

Next is inputting the press release following the site’s format. You have to choose the specific industry you want to send it. The editorial team reviews the release before it gets published.

After revision, it is sent to target media. The site tracks your release. An analytics report is generated.

PR Web is the solution for brands that want to boost their online exposure. If they want wider visibility, they can get its Premium plan that costs $389.

Online reviews about the site tell that the customer service is not that responsive when a client inquiries. It takes time for them to answer, and usually, no one is available to chat.

4. PR Newswire

PR Newswire is the oldest and widest release distribution platform. In fact, it works with other paid sites to provide wider exposure and visibility.

It is the top choice of companies that are looking for the proven track of records in public relations. With many years of experience, they don’t have to show how they operate.

It is excellent for companies that want immediate exposure and effective PR results. Reviews show that companies that have used the site landed media coverage and mentions than any other PR sites.

As expected, it provides more expensive plans than any other PR companies. A membership fee of $195 is necessary before getting any distribution plan. Being a member provides added perks, including consultation, online member center, access to the distribution network, complimentary phone/ webinar training, online, email and phone support, media studio, member-only webinars, proofreading of content, and visibility reports.

The basic plan costs $350 where news is distributed only to local or state options. Regional and top market plan costs $575, while national plan costs as high as $880.

While the plans are costly, it is suitable for small and medium companies that can support expensive distribution in exchange for PR results. It fits those that want to see an immediate improvement in their business. Unfortunately, it is not for companies that have limited funding for the distribution of releases.

What’s good with this paid site is that you can choose either to go local, regional, or national. If you want to target local reporters, they offer a specific targeting to reach your audience.

They also offer plans if you want to reach the regional level or national level. If you want to promote your business to other countries, spending on online news distribution is still more affordable than paid advertisements that are very costly.

PR Newswire is the platform for companies looking for a strong network, detailed targeting, large industry lists, and focus on digital media. When it comes to reviews, previous clients are happy with its service.

They can be reached via chat, email, or phone support. They respond to queries very fast.

Again, there are reasons why using paid PR sites are sometimes pricey. The service comes with the cost. If you’re looking for PR outcome, using a paid site is better than using a free wire service.

Usually, free sites only syndicate content on their own sites. You can’t gain exposure and visibility that you want because it is only syndicated on its few sites for a very limited time.

There are also too many links on its site that may tag your brand as spam. Often, these links direct outside the site or to your competitor’s page.

Since releases are only sent to its few sites, it’s impossible that you can reach your target audience. It’s seldom that journalists are subscribed to this kind of free site.

It’s free for the reason that they have limited services. Oftentimes, if you want more features or exposure, you have to upgrade that costs like the paid wire services.

Paid distribution service is the option if you have an important or breaking story to share. These sites offer features that guarantee the outcome. Although there is no guaranteed publicity, they can increase the odds of getting one.

Their features and services come with the price. If you just want to save on distribution and just want mere exposure, you can start with a free site. However, for maximum result, you can combine the distribution services.

Using a paid site for distributing a release can be costly but it is still cheaper than any paid advertisement. You can also measure the results, so you’ll know if it’s a success.

If you want to know the god, the better, and the best, you can weigh each service. What PR site is suitable for your goal, needs, and budget? Only you can decide.

In this article I’ll show you how to setup Google Search Console

There are few things more important to your website than proper SEO. Whether making sure your pages have the correct amount of characters for their metadata descriptions, having your most recent changes indexed in search engines, or even just knowing if you have any broken links or 404 pages, there are a lot of factors under the hood to keep track of. Google Search Console (formerly Webmaster Tools) has positioned itself as one of the most useful and reliable SEO tools, as befitting the search engine giant that developed it. If you want to take advantage, but don’t know where to start, read on for our helpful guide on how to get Search Console running for your website.

Getting Started with Google Search Console

The first step is visiting the Google Webmasters page and signing in using a Google account. If you happen not to have a Google account, you can easily create one using an existing email address, such as the admin email for your website. Click on the Add a Property button and then add your site’s URL. Be aware of whether your site uses www or is a “naked” url. The best way to ensure that GSC gets the right one is to visit your home page and then directly copy the url from the browser’s address bar and then paste that. While we might not see the difference, to Google www.yoursite.com and yoursite.com are two different things.

Verifying Your Domain

Before you’ll have access to Google Search Console tools for a property, you’ll need to verify that you’re the owner. The verification process is fairly straightforward. Google will recommend a verification method. These may include using the Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager account associated with the site, uploading an HTML file, adding a meta tag to your site header, signing in to your domain registrar or host.

If the recommended method doesn’t work for you, you can click on the Alternate Methods tabs and select another option. Once verified, you’ll be taken to the GSC dashboard.

Add a Sitemap

The next thing you want to do is add a sitemap, which will allow Search Console to better understand your website’s structure. If you have a WordPress site with Yoast SEO your sitemap address will be sitemap_index.xml.

Visit the Search Console Dashboard and click on the Sitemaps button. Click on the Add/Test Sitemap button and type the address of your sitemap. Click on the Test button to make sure you’ve got the right one with no errors. If everything looks ok, repeat this step but this time click on the Submit button. This will tell Google what pages it should look at and index.

Indexing Your Site

The penultimate step of setting up Search Console is visiting the Dashboard, looking under the Crawl menu, and navigating to “robots.txt Tester”. Here is where you can do exactly that – test your website’s robots.txt file so that Google knows which parts of your website not to crawl. If you see 0 Errors you’re good.

Lastly, under the same menu, visit the “Fetch as Google” page. This is where you can expedite the process of having Google crawl your site, which can be especially useful if you have significant changes that need to be indexed. Since you’re looking to have your entire site indexed by Search Console this first time, leave the text box blank and click on “Fetch and Render”, and once it finishes processing, click on “Submit to Index”. Choose to crawl “URL and all direct links”, and Google will send its spiders to navigate your site.

You’re Good to Go

Congratulations, you now have Search Console set up on your domain! In a future article, I’ll be looking at some of the more common things that you can do with Search Console and how it can be an SEO game-changer. In the meantime, if you want to know more about Search Console functionality, SEO, or if there’s anything else you’re curious about, feel free to connect with me.

Here’s how you can remove fbclid from your Google Analytics to get your Google Analytics reports looking nice an clean again.

What is FBCLID?

FBCLID is a parameter that Facebook placed on outbound links shared on Facebook. Basicially, if your website has been shared on Facebook by you or someone else you can track this acitivity on your Google Analytics. Unfortunately for all of us analytics geeks, it’s made our reports very messy.

How to Remove FBCLID from Google Analytics

Luckily there’s an easy way to remove this from your analytilcs to clean up your data again. Unfortnutatly this fix will only help you with your data after you implement this.

Here are the easy steps to fix this.

Step 1

Go to your View Settings under your Google Analytics View as per below.`

Step 2

Under Exclude URL Query Parameters (optional) simply add the text fbclid (make sure it’s lowercase). If you have other parameters, you can keep these but make sure you have a comma-separated list.

And you’re done.
