DRUM THERAPY?

Drumming has physiological effects. It increases heart rate and blood flow just like an aerobic exercise. The process of drumming engages both the linear, (the rational left) and the creative, (the intuitive right) sides of the brain. The two brain hemispheres emanate different wave frequencies. It also synchronizes the frontal and lower areas of the brain. It integrates the non-verbal information from the lower brain structures into the frontal cortex and produces a feeling of insight, understanding, integration, certainty, conviction, and truth. Consequently, drumming is like a deep meditation. It brings you into synchronization, which is a state of consciousness. “Drumming directly links humans with the vibration of the Earth by slowing the brain waves to around 8 cycles per second, the same frequency as the planet” (Feathers, 1995). Drumming heals the human energy field, so if your intention is for some healing while you drum, it will.

Proud to present my latest collaboration with Lauren Rudick. This experienced yoga instructor thrives for happiness through experiences of all shapes and sizes. ”Being healthy means pursuing my passions and hobbies.  It means taking time for myself so I can do for others… I am someone who has a tendency toward saying yes to opportunities and seeing where life takes me from there.”

Keeping an impressive inner balance, she also seeks to share her knowledge and spread her passion for life by being implicated in projects worldwide.  This year Lauren has embarked on a wonderful project and likely her biggest undertaking thus far: The Global SEVA challenge, a program of Off the Mat Into The World®.

Off the Mat Into The World® uses yoga to empower SEVA participants to become activists, mobilize their communities and make great changes.  This year the Global SEVA Challenge is to raise 20,000$ in hopes to bring awareness to, and help eliminate, the trafficking of women and children into sexual slavery.  Funds raised for the Global SEVA Challenge go toward rescuing, rehabilitating and empowering victims of sexual slavery.  Throughout the year, Lauren will be holding various events and selling wares to contribute to her SEVA challenge.

With Lauren‘s amazing yoga talents and my artistic skills, we collaborated to create an artistic yoga calendar, where as all proceeds made will be put towards the SEVA challenge. So here’s what’s cooking at the studio theses days….first and foremost, I would like to share  some  photos of a wonderful photo-shoot I had with an Edgy Pregnancy Clothing designer by the name of  Louis Valcourt. She is an upcoming designer ,who in my opinion is going to rock the pregnancy world with her talent and her fabulous design collection. You will be able to purchase her creations on-line very soon and I will post the link ASAP!!  Denise Buiseman Pilger and I have been officially accepted as part of the Fima artists exhibitors this June 27th to July 1st 2012. I will be out of the studio and  in the streets of Montreal…so let’s pray for some sunshine!!! I will be collaborating on a limited edition print t-shirt project with Station 16. They are a creative print shop located in Montreal with a focus on hand made limited edition multiples who will also be part of the Boulev’Art!!! So put your sunscreen on and  bring your umbrellas (this is Montreal after all!!) and make some time to come and visit us at the show! In the meantime enjoy the Grand Prix Weekend.xox

We did it…Here’s our first three pieces of the collection! Denise Buisman Pilger and I are collaborating together on a project called Journey, which is a mix of her landscapes with my portraits. The journey project will hopefully start a journey of it’s own this summer, as we have applied to participate in this very cool outdoor exhibition event called the Boulev’art which takes place between June 27th and July 1st 2012. We will only find out at the end of the month if our application has been accepted! We are very excited by this opportunity and wanted to share it with all of you!

The FIMA (Festival International Montréal en Arts) is the greatest open air art gallery in eastern Canada. The Boulev’Art expands over a one-kilometer stretch of Montreal’s central artery, Sainte-Catherine Street, closed to the automobile traffic all summer. The FIMA offers festival goers a unique opportunity to meet artists from various backgrounds, professionals and emerging artists, and to purchase artworks directly from the artists (without going through a gallery or an agent). In 2011, close to 140 artists, exhibitors and performers will take the street during 5 days. Over 250 000 people walk on the BoulevArt.

More than an open-air exhibition, FIMA presents a rich and diversified program: short film screenings, multimedia performances, immersive installations, live painting, craft work demonstrations and a series of multidisciplinary performances. In addition to the outdoor programming, thematic exhibitions are presented indoors each year, notably at the Écomusée du fier monde.

L’atmosphère conviviale et décontractée du FIMA crée un terreau fertile pour l’échange et la rencontre grâce auquel le grand public se sensibilise et s’initie à l’art. Les artistes, pour leur part, bénéficient d’une rétroaction directe et immédiate du public, et d’un accès à une toute nouvelle clientèle. C’est ainsi que l’événement, qui en est à sa 13e édition, orchestre annuellement une démystification et une démocratisation majeure des arts visuels.
