From Ballerscafe: “I received a call from Darryl Trent regarding the Rumor of Smart Parts shutting its doors. This is what he had to say, more or less anyway. Smart Parts has had massive layoffs, a lot of people that have worked there for many years have lost their jobs. In spite of this, they are still open for business. They are still making products, taking and shipping orders. They are trying to ‘stop the bleeding’ so to speak. Unlike what has been previously reported, Darryl said that they do not have plans of closing. In this economy they are taking the steps they feel needed in order to stay open. No matter what your personal feelings are about the company, it would be bad for Paintball as a sport to have Smart Parts go under. It is bad for the economy to have these people laid off and out of work. And it is bad for these people that have been laid off and their families! Bottom line is that this is real. These are people with families that are affected, and our sport as a whole that is going to be hurt if we see these major manufacturers start going out of business.” Darryl Trent

Currently sitting in the second place position of the Central Division of the RXL and going into CXBL’s fifth event it will be a plus minus race for Supremacy to be the top team in the 2009 RXL season.

First off what is your name and who do you play for?

My name is Dennis Dendiuk and with my partner Will Smith (No, not the Actor) we are owners and players for Essex Supremacy in the RXL.

How is the season going for your team right now?

We are tied for first and are in a must win situation. All we can do is play our game and win.

Event five is around the corner, who if anyone do you feel is the major threat in your division?

I feel that our worst threat is the penalty box. As long as we stay out of there no one can beat us!

What have you guys been doing to get prepared for this event? Anything out of the ordinary?

We have had a good format for our practices, we have a numbering system for every bunker on the field and our coaches review field map sheets with us heading into the events. We scrimmage and we have a great coaching staff to help us read the field and to tell us what we need to do.

What about the CXBL do you guys like the most? The least?

I personally love the format and the way each division’s rankings through the season are kept track of on the CXBL site. The least is how far we have to drive to events. Being from the most southern part of Canada and having to drive to Ground Zero twice is hard on the wallet for our guys.

Does your team compete in any other leagues currently or plan to participate in any of the major US league closing events such as PSP World Cup or USPL Vegas?

We only play CXBL this year but we plan to jump in on a couple of ESPL events to top off the season.

What sponsors does your team have for this season?

Our only monetary sponsor is DieHard Paintball Inc. Which has helped our players afford the costs involved. As well we have people who give their time to help us learn the fields and manage our pits at the events.

We all know that the end of the 2009 is close, but where do you see your team going in 2010 and beyond that?

I hope to see us leading the pack in the MXL and then into the CXBL. Then we can pick up more sponsors and maybe hit some PSP events. But my main concern is winning this next match against Hespeler.

Something you love? Inferno chicken wings at Billy Bostons in Essex, Ontario.

Something you hate? Warm beer!

Something that is a stereotype to Canadian paintball? That we all use pump guns cause it is so cold up here!

This season isn’t going exactly as we had planned. We lost a 1 point game to Elmira which kind of got the team down and then we played terribly against Oshawa Fury and lost that game as well. We are now hoping to win both of our games at event 5 to give us a winning record of 4-3-0

Event five is around the corner, who if anyone do you feel is the major threat in your division?

Obviously Kitchener Recon is the only threat in the division to every team. No matter who they play they are are better organized, more prepared and too skilled to make a single mistake against.

What have you guys been doing to get prepared for this event? Anything out of the ordinary?

No we haven’t done anything out of the ordinary to prepare for this event. It was hard to practice with only 2 weeks off in between event 4 and event 5, but we got our regular practice in on the event 5 layout at Flag Raiders Paintball the weekend before event 5.

What about the CXBL do you guys like the most? The least? How does the CXBL compare to the AXBL?

We love how organized and prepared the CXBL is. Everything always runs on time, they always have great referees and they always put on a great event. We don’t like that in the MXL and RXL divisions that only 1 team wins anything and that there is no playoff or finals system in place. In 2008 Nottawasaga went undefeated and it looks like Kitchener will this season, meaning that we dump all this money into the league showing up to all the events and if you lose a single game even if it is by 1 point the whole season can be thrown out the window in a matter of minutes. I personally have not been to any AXBL events but some members of my team have and they say that in the MXL division the competition isn’t nearly as good as it is up here in Canada but that there are some excelent AXBL teams.

Does your team compete in any other leagues currently or plan to participate in any of the major US league closing events such as PSP World Cup or USPL Vegas?

In the winter we play the Flag Raiders Paintball Raiders Cup series for fun and to keep up with the competition in the winter. However in the summer months with 5 CXBL events and practices almost every weekend we just do not have time to play anything except for CXBL. As for attending any major events this season such as world cup it doesn’t look too likely since 90% of our team is either in college or university and most of us just cant take the time out of school to attend these events even though we would like to.

What sponsors does your team have for this season?

Waterloo Wildcards does not now, nor have we ever had any sponsorships everything over the last 3 seasons has come right out of the pockets of our players.

We all know that the end of the 2009 is close, but where do you see your team going in 2010 and beyond that?

Well I’m sad to say that after 3 years of playing on Waterloo the team will be sold and will no longer be Waterloo Wildcards next season. I don’t mean to feed any rumors but it looks like the team will be heading to SOF paintball in Hamilton next year and we are hoping that a few of our current players will be heading there with it.

Something you love? Something you hate? Something that is a stereotype to Canadian paintball?

I love that It snowed during one of the CXBL western events. I hate that we have to play indoors in the winter. Im just not too sure about any Canadian paintball stereotypes.

When people think of the CXBL league most only think of the CXBL franchises while we know that there are many teams who are working their way up to play in that division they usually do not get much spot light so I got the chance to ask a few questions to a Central CX4 team and a female Canadian paintball player on their team.

First off what is your name and who do you play for?

My name is Erin Gray and I play with Brampton Rage Kids CX4 in the CXBL Central Division.

How is the season going for your team right now?

So far the season is going pretty good it has its share of ups and downs. We are sitting in 6th place at the moment. Our first 2 events went as expected for a team with no prior playing experience with each other (5th and 6th). Once we finally got into a rhythm as a team our driving force, Jo, was picked up by RXL Vaughan Vipers. I am confident we can continue to be a consistent and tough to play against come event 5.

Event five is around the corner, who if anyone do you feel is the major threat in your division?

Top 4 has pretty much been the same since the jump. Whitby, Hamilton, Tavistock and Codrington are always top 4 contenders, with ourselves (Brampton) and Owen Sounds trying to crack the playoffs. If we can beat any of these teams it might give us a better chance of placing higher next event.

What have you guys been doing to get prepared for this event? Anything out of the ordinary?

For a team that has been looking to make a major impact on the division the unordinary preparation we have taken to is none. No practices, little amount of communication, and a very relaxed passive outlook at the next event. The rest of the team took off the weekend after the event. I kept my game up by playing a tournament that had the event 5 layout with a few changes. The weekend before the event we will be practicing full force hopefully playing the higher teams in our franchise.

What about the CXBL do you guys like the most? The least? How does it compare to the AXBL?

CXBL is a great league to play in. You have the chance to travel to different locations throughout the season, stay in hotels with your buddies, and go to player’s parties on a boat, and at a club. The experience has been amazing for me this year. I have met so many people in the league from all different levels. I loved event 3 in Gananoque when Eastern & Central divisions came together. The thing I like the least is the fact that in CX4 you only play 4 different teams each event. Only if you make it to the finals, you might have a chance of playing other teams. There is one team that we have yet to play against and we probably won’t ever this season if we don’t make the finals this coming event. I wouldn’t know how the CXBL compares to the AXBL as I haven’t paid any attention to the AXBL and don’t know too much about the league.

Does your team compete in any other leagues currently or plan to participate in any of the major US league closing events such as PSP World Cup or USPL Vegas?

There is no one from my team that plans to participate in any other leagues, but if we were to stay together as a unit over the off season anything is possible.

What sponsors does your team have for this season?

Our sponsors are Draxxus and our home field, Ultimate Paintball, in Milton, Ontario that is run by our owner Larry.

We all know that the end of the 2009 is close, but where do you see your team going in 2010 and beyond that?

Next season my team may be a completely new team as some players are moving up and some are pausing their tournament game for a few years due to college/university. Whatever happens next year happens. Right now we need to focus on our game and bring home a win this coming event.

Something you love? Something you hate? Something that is a stereotype to Canadian paintball?

I love all the friends I have made in the sport. I hate making stupid mistakes. Canadian paintballers can be your enemy on the field, but the minute you step off they are your best buddies.

Rating: A+

This past weekend I was able to test out the new unreleased Criticalpainball.com 100G barrel. I was pretty excited to see just how this barrel would perform because I know that Critical Paintball has made tons of quality products over the years and this shouldn’t be any different. Jon Paul, the owner of Critical, pulled a glass back barrel out of the back of his trunk and said “Allan let me know what you think about this.” I eagerly unscrewed my Dye Ultralite barrel from my DM9 and slapped this on. A Dye Ultralite is a great barrel that is very lightweight, but compared to the Critical 100G barrel, I felt like I was using a carbon fiber barrel of some kind. An Ultralite weights 128g on average while the 100G barrel received its name because of the fact that it weighs exactly 100g on the scale. Actually the Critical 100G Barrel may be the lightest aluminum barrel made as it weights 9g less than a Lucky Unitech barrel! So a light barrel is fine and dandy but I’d rather shoot a heavy Lapco two piece then not have any accuracy whatsoever. Well after this weekend it would appear that my Lapco and my Ultralite may be taking some well deserved breaks in the near future.

The 100G barrel shot phenomenal through gameplay shooting three different kinds of paint ,Severe Tempest, Some purple balls from a white box, and WPN Toxic. I had no breaks inside the barrel, and my groupings were extremely tight across field. The sound signature of my gun, while already low, became noticeably quieter. Another performance gain that I do not think Critical was expecting was air efficiency. I had chronographed with my Ultralite before I knew I’d get to play with the 100G barrel and was sitting at 289 +/- 4. After screwing on the 100G I went back to the chrono to see a difference and was pleasantly surprised to see 314 +/- 4. I told Jon Paul my findings and he explained to me how the 7inch control bore not only increases accuracy but efficiency as well.

Aesthetically the Critical 100G barrel does not have any crazy milling or aggressive cuts but is rather smooth and simple, a style that I personally enjoy and believe compliments most guns on the market. While I simply used one gloss black Critical 100G barrel with a .691 back I was happy to hear that Critical would be releasing these as a barrel kit available in seven colors, silver dust, black dust, red dust, blue dust, black polished, red polished, and blue polished. The kit will include a .691, .693, and .695 back with a 14” front for $159.99.

At the end of the day I was quite reluctant to actually give back the barrel because it was definitely one of the best barrels I had used in recent memory and the price of $159.99 for an entire barrel kit you better believe that I’ll be ordering one these VERY soon. Extremely lightweight high grade aluminum, great style, more efficiency, super accurate: Critical 100G barrel.

The Upcoming Paintball Extravaganza

Next month in September, the 2nd Paintball Extravaganza will be held in Atlanta Georgia. This trade show is geared towards store/field owners and manufacturers. Companies are there, in full force to show off their goods, and this time, will probably be many glimpse at 2010 products to come. The Extravaganza show has picked up some popularity since the first launch, and has seen close to a 25% growth in manufacturer participation.

Not only can store/field owners attend the trade show, but also sign up for certified tech classes. With 2010 products right around the corner, Dye will be hosting a trade show to a select few dealers, which those dealers will be able to not only see the new 2010 Dye marker, but also learn to tech the marker, AND purchase one for themselves. This will allow these select store owners to have their hands on the new Dye gun before the World Cup 09. Rumors are going around about Dye releasing several markers at World Cup, and maybe the public will get to hear what Dye is really planning, straight from those who attended the Dye tech class. The Dye “NT9” rumor started early in 2009, and many people are anticipating if these speculations were true or just some rumors to start up hype.

Dye will be joined by many other big names such as Smart Parts, Planet Eclipse, and Kee. This show is sure to be the talk of the town once it gets rolling. Online users at Pbnation.com will be starting the threads to anticipate what is going to come out for 2010, and hopefully the lucky dealers will be able to provide the general public with some nice pictures to show off the hot tickets of 2010.
