Just to clarify.
The Police and Fire Mortgage is currently only for 1st Time Home Buyers and Move Up Buyers. It is not for Refinances, Vacation Home Purchases or Investment Property Purchases.
If you are purchasing a home for your primary residence please contact Michael Campanaro at 908-868-2021 to secure your funds with the state. The funds are limited so act fast. Notes from a Rookie Firefighter...March 10, 2009

All this weekend I made 250 cookies. I was supposed to bake with my CCD class, and I was supposed to deliver them to The New Jersey Firemen's Home in Boonton yesterday morning. Only one girl was able to come Sunday night, and she made two dozen, and I made the other 226.

I had never been to The New Jersey Firemen's Home but had heard alot about it. The grounds were actually bigger than I expected, and was actually chartered in 1898. It became a home to firefighters two years later, and now holds a museum which was opened in 1985.

Today is a day I will never forget. I was on my weekly Eucharistic Minister visit, sitting among five old Italians (I'm Italian too) and I got the call that I passed my test.

I burst into tears.

I thank everyone for believing in me.

Notes from a Rookie Firefighter...February 19, 2009

A few nights ago I got to try the thermal imaging camera. When you go to the Academy, they mention the camera when you hit the chapter in the book but the only way you get to try certain pieces of equipment is in the firehouse or at a scene. At a scene is not necessarily the best way to learn something but if it's not busy, it's a good way you can pick up some practical knowledge.

I was lucky enough to be with a volunteer who wants to help me learn, so he showed me how to check for hotspots with the camera. Interestingly enough, we were outside checking for spots. I also got to shovel, shovel and shovel some more. I did get teased about how much I enjoyed that part, and got to work the hose in what I was shovelling. I was taught the S pattern at the Academy, but the other night it was like a light bulb went off why I was doing the S pattern in what I was hosing down.

This may seem soooo rudimentary to some; however, for those of us that are new, the only way you gain situational experience is to have someone on the scene who remembers you need to learn the way to do something that is not covered at the Academy.

I can see this same person becoming a training officer one day. Patience, skill and understanding of one's strengths are to me what makes a good training officer.

I read on the NJSPBA site that Lisa Bonfiglio, a member of the Morris County Sheriff's Office, recently died of cancer. I would like to express my condolences to her friends and family. I live right around the corner from the Sheriff's Office but didn't know Officer Bonfiglio. This blog will have a day of silence in her memory.

I asked a police officer at the Morristown NJ Green to take a photo of me last year in a t-shirt that a local newspaper was offering. The idea was to wear the photo in Morristown and get your photo put in the paper.

I added the police officer's name to my database and last week he called me to look at townhomes in Morristown. The PFRS rate for first time homebuyers is 3.75%, and he received an email from me through my email campaign about the interest rate being available.

We went looking at a few townhomes the other day and unfortunately they weren't for him. What made me so happy was the sincerity with which he told me how, by reading my emails, he trusted me.

He didn't even know I was a local volunteer firefighter until I told him about my graduation last week from the Morris County Fire Academy.

I love to help police officers buy homes. It makes me happy.

I spoke to an old client today who is a police officer. I sold his condo in Linden, NJ two years ago. He spoke about how far he has to travel to work and how hard it was paying his bills. I totally understand that feeling.

He's thinking of selling his home and moving in with family to save on bills. I spoke to a well-respected realtor a few months ago about that when I was considering selling my home.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a bipartisan amendment, offered by senators Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and Joe Lieberman (ID-CT), to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, also known as the economic stimulus bill, creating a $15,000 tax credit to individuals who purchase a home in the next year. While the final details of the stimulus bill are still being debated, it is clear the bill will contain a number of provisions designed to benefit the housing market. Notes from a Rookie Firefighter...February 5, 2009

Today was the big day. It was my graduation from the Morris County Training Academy. I saw everyone from my class, as well as the guys from the class I had to stop during the summer (the full-time class). I can't describe the feelings I had sitting next to my Chief with the other people from my fire department.

We were all so proud of getting through the class, and the highlights of the night were showing support for a few people that had family members that have fallen in the line of duty. One was in my class and no one ever knew until tonight. The pride on this kid's face was unbelievable.

It was a typical graduation though - our diplomas were all mixed up, and at the end everyone was snapping photos of each other. I forgot my tie, but at least I was in Class A uniform. Some guys weren't but no one said anything, although I did get yelled at by one of the life members who was in the shaking hand line. Gosh it reminded me of the time I locked my keys in the trunk the first day of class and had to walk to the Academy.

My husband almost didn't make it, but he did with my sons, and they were so proud of me, which makes me happy.

Here's info about the downpayment:

The PBA loan requires anywhere from 3% to 10% down depending on property type and counties distressed class. FHA requires a min 3.5% down. You can use down payment assistance (i.e.: American Dream) as long as the seller agrees to pay it back.

The new rate for the Police and Fire Mortgage comes out on 2/15. It will be at 3.75% but is only for 1st time homebuyers. The amount set aside for the program was only$64,000,000.
Please get any 1st time homebuyer applications in ASAP because it is on a first come first serve basis.

Morris Township Police Department

The Morris Township Police Department was one of eight municipalities in Morris County that was awarded a grant for drunken driving enforcement this holiday season, called the "Over the Limit Under Arrest 2008 Year End Crackdown". The grant is funded through New Jersey Highway Traffic Safety. It is for $5000 (100 hours of overtime) for extra patrols for drunken driving enforcement from December 8th to January 2nd. The police department started last Thursday and had a number of DWI arrests over the past weekend.
