The MSI Wind is very aggressively priced—most sellers sell it for $379-$500. Yet, the MSI Wind neither feels nor performs like a cheap laptop. Let us check out some of the benefits of the MSI Wind.

System Performance

The MSI Wind is a very powerful computer. It runs XP Home quite smoothly, and takes barely 45 seconds to boot completely from power off. Launching of applications and surfing are done smoothly.

The Wind is also very quiet and does not heat up easily, even after extended use. The fans can be heard as well as the hard disk but these noises are fairly low. Heat emanations are also quite reduced.

Battery Performance

Battery performance is adequate with 3 hours for the 3-cell battery. A six-cell version has also been announced.

Sound

Like most laptops, the Wind does not score really high on sound. There are two speakers on the underside but the sound quality from them is quite mediocre.

The Screen Display

The screen of the MSI is one of the best points of the laptop. It is bright and crisp. Text is clear and there is little reflection of light. The largeness of the screen makes for easy reading especially for long periods. Unlike most other laptops, the MSI Wind has an LED screen, which uses much less energy that LCD screens. This assists in extending the battery life.

The Keyboard

With an 80% keyboard, the positions of some of the buttons have been changed. The MSI Wind is good for portability but is not efficient when it comes to long periods of usage.

The Design

The MSI Wind has a minimalist design. The white version has a low-luster finish that is resistant to fingerprint smudges. The shiny black version gives an impression of luxury (even though it is all but a luxury product). The rounded sides and corners give no sharp edges. MSI boasts of using special Insert Mold Roller technology that prevents the notebook’s color from fading.

So what does Dell do? They build an ultra thin laptop to rival the likes of the Apple MacBook Air. Seems like an odd market to go after, but Dell has succeeded in building a laptop computer that's actually THINNER than the MacBook Air. They certainly deserve a big round of applause for this in building their new Dell Adamo. At just 1.64cm thick and with a 1.2 ghz Intel Core2D processor, it's an impressive machine. The only downfall of course is the price, which in this economic climate, seems hard to swallow. A reasonably equipped Adamo with a 128GB Solid State Drive is going to run you about $2,000-$2700. Based on the price, this is certainly an upscale laptop. If you're looking for a cheap laptop, you might want to pass on the Dell Adamo, but if you want a fashionable, high tech, thin laptop, the Dell Adamo looks like it will be a great laptop.

The design of the HP 2133 takes CPU, RAM and mass storage into consideration and there are a wide range of operating systems available for the HP 2133. SuSE Linux and Microsoft Windows Vista Home and Business are among the operating systems available, depending on user preference. For those looking for an easy to use, familiar system, Windows is certainly a welcome addition. The HP 2133 features an ExpressCard/54 slot and a choice of a three or six cell battery. The three cell battery has two hours of run time, while the six cell battery has four hours of run time. Reviewers have noted that the six cell battery which is located downwards at the back of the machine which actually betters the ergonomics of the keyboard.

HP designed the Mini Note with an almost full-size keyboard and that claims to be spill resistant. A special coating is added to the keys to decrease wear and the touchpad buttons are to the sides of the pad instead of the usual location of below the pad. A small button to enable/disable the pad and button is above the touchpad. The HP 2133 exterior is made from aluminum while the inner framework is anodised magnesium. The screen is shielded by plexiglass, which can help protect it from damage.

HP updated the Mini-Note by launching the HP Mini 2140 in January 2009. This model was to modify the HP 2133 to be more productive. Among the innovative components are a 1.6GHz single-core Intel Atom processor, high definition LED-backlit LCD display, an Intel GMA 950 graphics adaptor and either a 160GB HDD or 80GB solid state drive, which was a welcome addition. The new processor and screen will increase the run time to 8.5 hours with the 6 cell battery.
