Lsass.exe is highly important Windows file that handles authentication processes in Windows, the method used to achieve this is by using an authentication package like msgina.dll, when the user is then authenticated lsass.exe will create a token which allows the user to log in and remain logged in.

Important: Do NOT terminate the process lsass.exe, this is a core Windows component and you Windows will not function properly without it.

Identifying Lsass.exe Object Not Found Error

You are presented with the following error message when the log in screen disappears:

“lsass.exe - System Error
Object Name not found.”

Cause of this Error

This problem will commonly occur if one or several services that run in the lsass.exe process or in the Services.exe are not configured to run as a shared service process. The default setting is that any services that run in the above processes are configured to run as shared service processes.

How to Fix This Error

To fix this error you will need to make sure the Software Licensing Service (Slsvc.exe) is running while performing the update.

To achieve this follow the steps as detailed below:

Close the error message, and reboot your computer.

To make sure that Slsvc.exe is running before you start the upgrade process, follow these steps:

Click Start, type services in the Start Search box, and then click Services in the Programs list.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

In the Services control panel, verify that the Software Licensing service is Started.

Use the download link from your purchase confirmation e-mail to start the upgrade process again.

Other Solutions

Improper maintenance to the Windows registry is often the underlying cause of most Windows errors, and any computer will benefit greatly from cleaning the registry for abundant and corrupted files on a regular basis.

The best way to go about this is to use a registry cleaner; these programs will automatically remove useless files and repair most errors with the click of a button.

We recommend using Reggenie because of its strong repair and optimization capabilities, you can download it here and get a free scan to check your computer for system related errors.

Most internet users are well aware that a firewall and some kind of malware protection software are essential to protect their computers from threats that can potentially harm a computer. But what is the difference between a firewall and a malware protection and removal application?

To put it simple; a firewall can be compared to a fence that keeps intruders out, a kind of border police, whereas a malware protection application finds and discards intruders that found its way into the computer already, this is the local police that patrol the streets of your computer and puts criminals to jail.

Firewall

A firewall is a program which is designed to defend your computer from any kind of attempt to infect, intrude or otherwise access your computer without authorization. This can be anything from malicious programs attempting to infect your computer, to hackers trying to access your computer to either destroy or obtain private information.

Antivirus

Antivirus is malware protection, and it is designed to find and destroy threats already located on your computer. Another important feature of an antivirus application is that it monitors your system for potential threats, such as when you download a file; your antivirus application will scan it, and see if it has any malicious code. If a threat is identified the antivirus will take steps to either remove the threat or quarantine it to prevent it from causing harm to your computer.

Many people wonder if it is really necessary to have both kinds of applications installed at the same time, but the truth is having both of these types of applications installed is essential to have the proper protection from harmful threats.

If you need an all in one solution, you can look into Antivirus and Security – All in one Suite, this program have both antivirus protection and a firewall for full protection of your computer.

Doing scheduled pc clean up tasks and keeping your system as clean possible, clearing out temp files and temporary internet files is all good, but what about other things on your computer wasting space?

By default, Windows XP creates tons of restore points on your computer, every 10 or 24 hours, every time you install a new program or update windows and you can manually create restore points if you feel you need them. The downside to this is that you end up with a large number of restore points that you don’t need, and these restore points can be quite large.

But before you clear them out you need to be sure your system is stable because there will be a brief period where you will not have any restore points.

Just use common sense, if you recently installed a great deal of new software or system updates, you would be better off postponing this technique a week or so to ensure the recent changes isn’t causing any problems.

Click Start, à All Programs, à Accessories, à System Tools, à System Restore.

Click to add a check mark beside Turn off System Restore on all Drives, and click Apply.

You will be warned that all existing Restore Points will be deleted, click Yes to continue.

All system restore points are deleted. Now you should manually create a restore point.

Click Start, à All Programs, à Accessories, à System Tools, à System Restore.

Click Create a Restore Point, and then click Next.

Give you restore point a name, like “date and restore point after deletion”.

Tip: Cleaning up you registry and removing invalid and corrupted entries can dramatically increase computer performance, download Reggenie today and scan your computer for errors and get a faster computer.

What Causes the High CPU Usage Explorer.exe Error?

The common cause of this error is that some type of malware has entered your computer and has taken the name of explorer.exe to deceive unsuspecting users. A common indicator for an infection is that when you boot your system everything loads fine, but suddenly all the icons and other desktop properties disappear, leaving only your background visible, and then reappears after a few seconds.

The virus in question is a Trojan that infects the system and takes the name of safe files and processes to disguise itself and it will allow malicious users to remotely access your computer and steal personal information. These backdoors are commonly indicated by high CPU usage spoolsv.exe and explorer.exe errors.

To fix this problem you will need to do a scan of your system to find the malware causing the problem, download Spyware Cease and do a scan of your system for malware and remove any threats it detects.

If the scan comes back clean you should run a registry cleaner and scan your system for explorer.exe related errors.

This error message occurs when you attempt to install a new application; it is a generic term that can be caused by several issues.

The most common cause of this error is that junk files are cluttering up your computer and you need to free up space on your hard drive. Read this post about various tools you can use to clean up your computer and remove unneeded files and applications.

Try the following steps to resolve the problem

Stop all running programs as they may interfere with the installation process.

It is often caused when there is not enough space on the hard drive, free up hard drive space using the Disk Cleanup utility in windows.

Right click C: drive, properties, tools, disk cleanup.

The Temp directory is not clean or it is full, delete all temporary files.

Navigate to C:\tmp and make sure there are no files in this folder.

Make sure you have administrative privileges on the system account; some files may be locked and cannot be overwritten.

Read the following pages to find out how to get administrator privileges.

Windows Vista: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555910

Windows XP: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/tips/advanced/adminaccount.mspx

If you are on a corporate computer and the system administrators is unable to grant you administrator privileges due to company policy, forward them to the following site to learn how to create an installation that always installs regardless of User Privileges.

http://kb.flexerasoftware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=Q105140&sliceId=

Finally, there may be traces of files from a previous uninstall left behind on the computer.

Run a registry cleaner to check your registry for errors and remove any invalid or corrupted registry entries left behind by previous uninstalls.

Note: The Fatal Error 1603 is a very generic error message and only indicates that something went wrong during installation and can be caused by numerous issues, if the above steps does not resolve the issue contact Microsoft technical support or the vendor of the program you wish to install and request a solution.

Internet criminals are getting increasingly clever and are using far more sophisticated methods to steal money from people online than was the case a few years ago.

They will infiltrate your system with Trojans, backdoors, spyware, phishing and other methods, all just to get those magical numbers on your credit card so they can drain your bank account.

And with the recent arrest of the big ring of internet criminals, the Mariposa Botnet, thought to be one of the biggest botnets in history which had infected over 13 million computers worldwide, attention to internet security solutions is on the rise.

But who are the people behind these botnets?

Pranksters? Teenage hackers? Bored adolescents?

This was the case a few years ago when the internet was young and people discovered that they could use their programming skills to attack others and get a kick out of it.

Today however, the situation is far more serious as these techniques have been adopted by devious criminals who understand the large potential for money by attacking computer users.

And just like any criminal network, cyber criminals will target victims that are easy to exploit and that can return massive profits, in this case; anyone with a computer.

But since big corporations will have far more advanced security than your average home computer, home computers are off course the easiest target, a home computer user may have less money in the bank, but when you affect an enormous amount of people, you can get an enormous amount of money.

And that’s exactly the purpose of a botnet; to attack and control as many computers as possible, to spread the damage as wide as possible.

The Mariposa Botnet was just one botnet, and is not the only botnet in existence today.

Everyday people receive spam in their emails, internet websites are attacked and overloaded, malware applications is spread through the use of home computers and people have their personal information and passwords stolen by programs in their own computers.

And all this is done using the computers of private citizens, so the real criminals can continue to do their damage without being detected by the authorities, just like a mafia boss will use running boys to execute their illegal activities.

Only in the case of the digital mafia, the running boys don’t know they are running boys.

Spoolsv.exe is a Windows process and is part of the core system and will by default run on start up, but due to internal errors it can cause high CPU usage errors that cause freezing, system halts and slows down computer performance.

It is also used by hackers which replace the original Spoolsv.exe with a backdoor; a quick scan of your system with a good antispyware application can reveal any potential threats in your computer.

What is the Spoolsv.exe process?

The actual Spoolsv.exe is an executable file that handles printing processes in Windows, it is responsible for queuing printing tasks. This file is a core Windows file and will load automatically on start up. If Spool.exe is causing high CPU usage errors it is commonly caused by a corrupted print file that is stuck in the system32 folder.

Do the following to attempt to fix the problem:

Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services and then stop the Print Spooler Services.

Turn of the printer

Navigate to C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files found in that folder.

Turn the printer back on and restart the spool service found in step 1.

This should dramatically decrease Spoolsv.exe CPU usage.

If this does not resolve the issue there is a good chance malware has infected your system and has replaced Spoolsv.exe. This process is a known security issue in Windows and is commonly used by hackers to open backdoors which will allow them to take control of your computer.

To prevent spyware from entering your computer and remove potential threats already located in the system download SpywareCease and scan your system for malware and use it to remove any malware it detects.

A botnet is a collaboration of several programs working together across several computers to perform certain tasks.

The affected computer is often compromised by a Trojan, which then connects to an IRC channel and awaits commands from the user in control of the program on the infected computer.

The most common use of a botnet is to send massive amounts of spam, and DDOS (Denial of Service) attacks, but a botnet is just a tool, what it does depends entirely on whoever is in control of the botnet.

The uses of a botnet

A botnet works in the following way:

A computer is infected with a malicious program

The program connects to the IRC channel set up by the attacker to receive commands

The program downloads additional malware on the computer

The malicious programs are ordered by the botnet owner to complete one or more tasks

These tasks range from a variety of actions, but these are the most common:

DDOS

Spam

Key logging

Spread malware

Identity theft

Flood IRC networks with spam

Host illegal software or content

Abuse PPC networks

How to Protect Yourself from Botnets

Botnets are internet security issues and can infect your computer from a variety of sources and can be avoided with common internet sense.

Always have a firewall activated

Run and update your antivirus and antispyware regularly

Be careful when opening e-mail attachments

To stay protected from botnets it helps to have good anti-spyware installed on your computer, read about SpywareCease and see how it can protect you from internet threats.
