It's doesn't even seem worth it because you're hardly ever at home and when you are, you're always on the computer and never in front of the television.

How many times have you been sitting at home and thought you were paying way too much for your cable or satellite bill? It’s doesn’t even seem worth it because you’re hardly ever at home and when you are, you’re always on the computer and never in front of the television.

What if you could watch all the satellite TV that’s on your primary set, but from your computer? That would be perfect for your on-the-go lifestyle. Who spends their nights at home anymore anyway? We’re either on the road or on a plane to our next destination and our favorite shows are left to sit unwatched on the DVR.

With a few keystrokes on Google, you can find some of the best satellite television on the market for your home computer. You don’t need to have any special hookups or tech to attach to your computer and weigh you down. All you need is an Internet connection and you’re good as gold. You can’t walk 10 feet in the world anymore without hitting a WiFi hotspot, so there is no reason why you can’t watch television anywhere you are.

If you have an hour or two kill before your job interview or your next meeting, then you can sit back and watch your favorite shows. It doesn’t matter if it’s morning, noon or night because if it is on television, then it is on your computer.

It’s a tight economy and everyone is feeling the pinch, but you don’t want to miss out on the one form of entertainment that you can enjoy at home or on the go. With satellite television for your home computer, you get all the comfort of home satellite TV without the price. By finding the best deals online, you can find a package that fits your needs and wants at a much lower cost then you’d find at a cable or standard satellite provider. We all want to save money, that’s just good sense and you don’t even have to sacrifice your Friday night sports or that late night movie you’ve been dying to see.

The Internet has transformed the way our world works and that’s not going to change anytime soon. It’s one of the biggest technological advances in human history and has improved the way we find and process information. People use it to watch television shows and movies on various websites like Hulu.com and Netflix.com, but they’re are all limited by what they are allowed to show.

There are television shows and movies that will never be seen on Internet websites and will only be available through television. Many people miss out on these because they don’t realize there is a simple and cost-effective alternative: satellite television for your PC.

Don’t be caught in the web of a standard cable or satellite provider. There is no need for you to be tethered to your television for all your entertainment needs. We live in a wireless world, so why not take advantage of technology? You can find satellite television for your personal computer at a price no standard satellite or cable company will be able to match. All you need to do is look at the many providers online and choose the one that is best for you. You have your pick of the litter because they all want your business in this new medium.

You can take hold of your entertainment experience and bring it into the 21st Century.

The world's leading Internet movie and television subscription service, Netflix, is now operational in both the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The world’s leading Internet movie and television subscription service, Netflix, is now operational in both the United Kingdom and Ireland. Since January 9th it’s been nothing but good news for all you movie and television buffs, talk about making some savings on DVD rentals (or hard drive space)!

Even better news is that this unlimited service (i.e. unlimited streaming of movies and television programs) is very cost effective. Priced at just £5.99 a month in the United Kingdom and €6.99 a month in Ireland, it sure beats any other option hands down.

As an incentive, Netflix are offering all new members a one month free trial. All you have to do is visit the Netflix site and sign up. Too easy! Once signed up you will have free access to all of the great services provided. Now, you will be asked for credit/debit card details at sign up, so be prepared. If you no longer wish to avail of the services after your free trial expires, make sure you cancel your membership or you WILL be charged.

What I like about services such as Netflix, is that you can access the services on your television via a range of devices such as Smart TV, blu-ray players, Apple TV, xbox and the wii (as long as you have an Internet Connection). You can also download the official app to use on your tablet or mobile phone.

Netflix themselves have dramatically changed the entertainment industry by providing streaming of otherwise pricey movies and programmes all for a low fixed fee. They now boast more than 20 million members, in over 47 countries around the world. It goes without saying that they are the largest in the game, and look set to continue that way in the future. Netflix has also partnered with Facebook which allows for some interesting new ways to share media with friends. By logging into Netflix via the Facebook connect option you can share your favourite movies and recommendations with friends, along with having a snoop at what they’ve been watching!

So far there is a limited selection on this side of the pond, but it’s becoming very clear that large amounts of content are being added daily. Users are seeing most UK channels coming on board, with programmes from ITV, BBC, CHANNEL 4 and CHANNEL 5, all welcome additions with firm favourites already listed for viewing.

As well as a large and ever growing range of movies and programmes, Netflix also offers high definition and high quality digital sound (Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 Sound), a nice extra!

So if you have been sitting on the fence or spending hours downloading illegally, do your bit, for the price of a burger and chips you can get yourself a whole month of viewing and have a clear conscience.

Anyone who has a family knows how important the telly is. My wife loves her soap operas, I have more than a passing interest in certain sporting events and my daughter seems to have been brainwashed by various cartoon characters.

This is all well and good in the normal course of events, as each of us enjoys our own interests at different times of the day. My wife relaxes in the evenings with her favourite soap characters, my daughter falls asleep at lunch time watching talking squirrels and alarmingly rebellious sponges and I always keep an eye open for a big game.

Where’s the Usual Jam?

But I wouldn’t be typing this if there hadn’t been a problem, and a big one at that. Due to some slow times at work I had been forced to put our household onto Mediterranean style austerity measures. We were coping well with the supermarket’s own brand jam and with doing a bit more walking but when I said that I wanted to cut back on the telly channels all hell broke loose.

My wife went in a huff and my daughter, who is still learning to speak, said “No, no, no, no, no!!!” before hurling something squeaky at me. To top it all off I even got annoyed at myself for making the suggestion. Anyway, calm was only restored in the house when I pointed out that it was now easy to go online and compare all of the different packages. There was some general distrust in the family at first but they soon realised that I wasn’t speaking with a forked tongue and that I had our best interests at heart.

Where Did This Channel Appear From?

It actually turned out to be an inspired move if the truth be told. The first thing we did was work out the channels we wanted, which was easy. After that we realised that for years we had been paying for channels which none of us ever watched. For example, I haven’t watched a movie from start to finish since that horrific airplane journey in which I was forced to sit through not one but two Home Alone films.

I had always thought that my wife tuned into the odd Richard Gere special but it turns out that she hates the guy and had been thinking that I had been using the channel to see Angeline Jolie movies. I’ve got nothing against Mrs Pitt but this simply isn’t true. The truth of the matter is that we had both been completely ignoring these movie channels while paying for them every month. By simply comparing the <img style="float: left;" src="http://www.digital-tv-advice.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/skybundles_201x59.jpg" alt="digital TV"width="201" height="59" />different packages on offer it was clear that there was the chance to make a big saving here with no loss to our lives or general happiness.

After whittling down the list of channels we are interested in we saved quite a few pounds and also discovered that there are loads of channels which none of us has ever seen. The only problem now is how to work out what to do with the cash we save. My wife fancies getting a new jacket while, my daughter makes strange plaintive noises whenever an advert for the latest Barbie doll appears on screen. Maybe we should just save up to buy an extra TV or two now.

For the best digital TV advice in order to compare Sky digital to the other UK service providers it pays to go online and take the whole family into account.

Obviously, the design of the Vita and Note is quite different, mostly because the former was intended as a gaming console and the latter is a universal smartphone/tablet hybrid that can be used for a wide variety of tasks.

Sony’s announcement of the new PlayStation Vita gaming console has been received with quite a lot of enthusiasm, however when it actually launched on the market, the sales were nowhere near what the company has predicted and what everyone was expecting. Right now, the console has made its way to the United States, and it’s still not selling very well, despite the various incentives that Sony decided to offer to the buyers.

The reason for the Vita’s lackluster success is the rise of gaming on smartphones – with a tremendous increase in hardware power and the launch of services like OnLive, it’s hard to convince people to get a separate device for gaming on the go when they can easily do it on their phone. An interesting comparison is the PlayStation Vita and Samsung’s Galaxy Note – the oversized Android smartphone that has already sold more than 1 million units. These two devices are similar in size and hardware specs, but which one would a gamer choose to carry around?

Exterior design

Obviously, the design of the Vita and Note is quite different, mostly because the former was intended as a gaming console and the latter is a universal smartphone/tablet hybrid that can be used for a wide variety of tasks. The Vita is slimmer and lighter than its predecessors, but still retains the usual controls, including two analog sticks and top buttons. The Galaxy Note looks like your run of the mill slab smartphone, only oversized – it’s got a slim profile and nothing worth noting except the big touch screen on the front.

Hardware features and performance

Despite their different purpose, the PlayStation Vita and Galaxy Note are actually very similar when it comes to internal hardware. Both devices have a Wifi, Bluetooth and cellular radios (the Note has 4G LTE support, though), GPS, accelerometer and touch screen, compass, video out capability and a 3.5 mm audio jack. There are also two cameras on each device, but the Galaxy Note wins out with its 8 megapixels main camera and 2 megapixels front facing snapper – they’re a lot better than the VGA-resolution cameras on the PS Vita.

The performance of both the PSV and the Note is also very similar. The Vita has a quad core processor, quad core graphics adapter and 768 MB of RAM (512 MB main + 128 MB video). That looks very impressive, however the Galaxy Note actually matches it spec for spec with a higher clocked 1.5 GHz dual core processor, quad core Mali 400 GPU and 1024 MB of RAM in dual channel mode (video memory is allocated from the main RAM).

In practice, this means that each device will run games just as well as the other, making the choice between them pretty hard, seeing as the quality of Android games is improving every single month and the latest games are just as good as the special PS titles.

Software

If you’re looking for a good gaming device on the go and are comparing the Sony PlayStation Vita and Samsung Galaxy Note, it all comes down to the software. The Vita runs its own proprietary OS, which severely restricts its use, while the Note runs Android Gingerbread and is awaiting an Ice Cream Sandwich update. For now, the games for PlayStation are better when it comes to gameplay and graphics quality, but Android games are quickly catching up and will soon be on par with the dedicated console.

Conclusion

When you consider the fact that the Note is much more than a gaming console and can work as a phone, digital camera, Web browsing device, work tool (for taking notes, creating documents, outputting presentations and more) AND gaming console, the choice seems pretty easy to me. The availability of the OnLive app (which allows you to play desktop games on your Android device!) drives the last nail and makes the Galaxy Note or any other high end smartphone, for that matter, a better choice than the PSV.

There are now many different types of HDTVs to choose from, and in this review we’ll be examining one that many consumers are fond of – the Samsung PN58c7000 3D Plasma HDTV. Samsung makes a large variety of televisions, and they also give you access to many applications that allow you to access all kinds of online entertainment. No television is perfect for everyone, and this model is designed for people who are looking for a large, sleekly designed HDTV that also has 3D.

Main Features of Samsung PN58c7000 3D Plasma HDTV

Today’s electronic devices are made to work in sync with other devices. Samsung makes this easy with the PN58c7000, as it has 4 HDMI ports, two component video inputs, as well as PC inputs. With ConnectShare Movie, you can quickly connect a digital camera or thumb drive to your HDTV. So if you take videos or photos, you can watch them on your large screen HDTV. It can be much more interesting to look at images on a high resolution screen, so HDTV today is not only about watching television, but also a way to enhance your enjoyment of videos and photos.

Samsung is a well known brand when it comes to televisions, and lately they’ve been making a name for themselves in the world of plasma and HDTVs. Along with one or two other brands, Samsung is the leader in HDTV and plasma TV technology, and proof of this can be found in some of the awards they’ve won. Reviewed.com, for example, which is affiliate with the newspaper USA Today, named the 7000 Series Plasma TV the Best Plasma TV, as well as Television of the Year. While Samsung makes a variety of plasma and LCD TVs, the 7000 series has been especially well received by both consumers and technology reviewers.

Samsung PN58c7000 3D Plasma HDTV for Gamer

If you are a gamer, HDTV offers you a whole new experience that you can’t get anywhere else. Playing games on the Samsung PN58c7000 plasma TV is very different from playing on your laptop, desktop or smart phone. Aside from the advantage of enjoying the action on a much larger screen, the high resolution images and quality sound will make everything much more lifelike. When you play games on a quality HDTV, it’s more like being part of the action rather than watching it on a tiny screen. When you also have 3D, this is enhanced even more.

If you are in the market for a television, you have to consider what kind is appropriate for the size of the room, your budget and your viewing habits. A model such as the Samsung PN58c7000 2D Plasma HDTV is much more than a conventional TV, as it allows you to stream videos from the internet, connect to your social networks and play your favorite games as well. While not perfect, this HDTV is one of the most advanced high definition televisions you can get in this price range.

When you ask how satellite Internet works, you may be asking any of three different questions: What makes satellite Internet work? What do you have to do to get satellite Internet? And finally, how welldoes satellite Internet work?

The technical answer is that satellite Internet is pretty self-explanatory. Instead of data traveling on wires between modems and routers, it’s beamed back and forth from satellites in orbit to satellite dishes on the ground.

Any Internet connection is simply information being sent back and forth, but the route that it travels will determine the speed and quality of the communication. Higher bandwidth connections mean that more speed is possible, but not guaranteed, especially if the data has to go a long way from one computer to another.

The signals carrying data on most networks can only go so far before they need to be repeated or amplified. This goes for wired Internet connections, like DSL or Cable, but also for wireless methods, like WiFi and 3G or 4G. Any network on the surface of the Earth, a terrestrial network, can only go so far before it becomes too difficult or expensive to go any further.

However, satellite Internet can go a very long way — about 22,000 miles, the distance between the ground and the satellite in orbit. The good news is that this makes satellite Internet available in places that wired networks or cell towers cannot reach.

The bad news is that your computer has to wait a long time for its question to travel up to the satellite and then down to the ISP’s dish and back again. When you think about it, it’s pretty amazing that the resulting latency is typically only less than a second, but that’s still a little too much for any real-time Internet use, needed for tasks like online gaming.

This absolutely does not mean that satellite Internet is slow. In fact, broadband satellite providers, like HughesNet, WildBlue, and StarBand, typically offer comparable download speeds to cable, DSL, and even most fiber optic tiers (512 Kb/s to 5.0 Mb/s).

Think of it as a bit like driving. Bandwidth is how fast your car can go and latency is the time it takes for you to change direction. Satellite Internet is a pretty fast car, but the driver has a slow reaction time.

Nearly all Internet connections are asymmetrical. In other words, you can get fast download speeds, but comparatively slow uploads. Satellite is even more asymmetrical than most. For example, a satellite connection offering 2.0 Mb/s downstream would offer only 300 Kb/s upstream.

The practical answer is that satellite Internet installation is relatively easy. All you need is a place to put the dish and, of course, a computer to plug it into.

A standard satellite installation will consist of an installer securing the satellite dish to the most ideal spot, usually on your roof, but the dish can go anywhere that there’s open sky towards the satellite. Coaxial cable (usually two separate cables) will go from the dish into your house, connecting it to a satellite modem and from there to your computer or router via standard Ethernet cable.

The comparative answer is that the most obvious reason to get satellite Internet is if you live in a rural area where other means of broadband Internet access are unavailable.

As we’ve seen, the element of latency makes satellite Internet less attractive for interactive applications. Additionally, satellite Internet is sensitive torain fade (interference from rain, snow, or simply moisture in the air). And finally, theline of sight can be complicated by nearby factors like trees and mountains, because the microwave signal gets wider between the satellite and the dish.

This guest post was provided by Russell Jensen, a writer for SatelliteInternet.com.

A lot of antennas for televisions that you find on the market today are really ugly, so the Leaf antenna was meant to be different. A lot of effort went into the design so it wouldn’t look like an unsightly eyesore. That is why the Leaf indoor television antenna that is patent pending is paper thin and can be mounted just above anywhere, like on the wall or behind a picture.

Design of Paper Thin Leaf Indoor HDTV Antenna

There are a variety of options for installation, since it is black on one side and white on the other. Believe it or not, the design of the Leaf TV antenna was the result of quite a bit of study and engineering work. The paper-thin design was motivated by the fact that there were no high performance antennas on the market. The company realized this, when one of their engineers wanted over-the-air broadcasting rather than cable television. This led to experienced antenna engineers to come up with the patent pending design. They had been designing antennas for the U.S. military for years, and used that knowledge to come up with the Leaf antenna. They also believed the antennas on the market were overpriced, and they wanted to keep the price down, so that was a driving factor in their new antenna.

The company, which manufactures in the USA, was able to develop an antenna with very little manufacturing costs, but which has high performance. This allows them to keep the price low, and pass on the savings to the customers. The majority of the customers who have purchased the Leaf antenna, have been quite surprised that something so small, and unlike an antenna could work so well. People out in the middle of nowhere have found something that works when nothing else has. Many found that this inexpensive antenna works much better than antennas costing three or four times as much. It is a prime example of not judging a book by its cover. Sometimes people find that their antenna doesn’t work, but then find out the problem was something else, like with a tuner.

Best Startup with Paper Thin Leaf Indoor HDTV Antenna

If you are looking for a paper-thin antenna, the Paper Thin Leaf Indoor HDTV Antenna by Mohu, would be a good place to start. It is much cheaper than most, and light enough to move around very easily. If you read over all of the reviews by the customers, you will learn some of the things that haven’t work for people. But, you will also learn what they did to get it to work, which might not have been spelled out too good in the installation manual. Quite often when a product doesn’t work for someone, it is the result of not following directions the way they were laid out.

This antenna is paper-thin and sealed in plastic like a driver’s license, which is not too impressive. But when you find the right spot in your house, it will give you the TV channels you were hoping for.

You would think with 700,000 new activations per day Android would be bursting with plenty of new game players. The news is not leaning that way. Android gamers seem to be taking a back seat to other activities. Read on to get a better understanding on what is going on with gaming trends in the Android realm.

Trends Are Changing For Mobile Users

Mobile gaming on Android is not all it use to be. There are more people using Android daily, but it seems they are not big gamers as the first Android crowd. A mobile app search company named “Chomp” has provided an analytical report on what is going on with Android apps. They show a decrease in popularity for games on the Android platform starting from the end of last year.

Entertainment Apps Catch Up To Gaming Apps

The entertainment apps are now the growing category of Android usage. It is equal to the now decreased popularity of games. Entertainment apps are those like “Talking Tom”, Netflix, Steam, Playstation Official App and the sort. Angry Birds and “The Sims Social” are seeing less popularity.

The Utilities Category Saw A Slight Decline

Another Android app category, the “utilities” category, has also seen a very slight decline in popularity. Utility apps are apps such as Google Maps that help a user find things. Others are CamScanner, the Dolphin Browser, History Eraser Pro and the Lookout Security app. Of that group, the Lookout Mobile Security app was one of the most popular. This is because the Android platform is prone to bouts of malware from the dark side of the programming world.

Popular Genres Of Android Apps

Some of the top downloaded apps for the Android platform are Pandora and Facebook. The Pandora app is a free personalized radio program that plays channels of music based on user input. It is called “Pandora Internet Radio” since it divides up music searches into genres automatically. Facebook for the Android platform is very popular, since there are around 800 million users on that network. The “Zedge Ringtones” app is up there in popularity as well. This is described as the “ultimate Android personalization tool”. It involves not just ringtones, but wallpapers and alarms as well. One cool setting for the Zedge app is that wallpapers can be set to change automatically instead of manually.

The Decrease Was To Be Expected

None of the top apps of last year were actually games for Android users, so it makes sense they would be declining at this time. The data is based on searches across the “Chomp” network and not on actual purchases.

A team of German researchers has broken the GMR-1 and GMR-2 encryption methods that protect satellite phones from eavesdropping and interception.

A team of German researchers has broken the GMR-1 and GMR-2 encryption methods that protect satellite phones from eavesdropping and interception.

The cryptanalysts were able to reverse engineer the algorithms and provide a method for anyone with a computer and radio kit to launch attacks on satellite phone users.

Weakness by Design

Typically, before a phone is released on to the market, details of security systems are release to the community for review and criticism. Satellite phone encryption methods were not released in such a way and it is believed this is the reason they were able to be compromised. It is now considered relatively easy for an attacker to intercept or spoof phone calls between unsuspecting parties.

The only indication that a satellite phone is being attacked is a small amount of extra electromagnetic radiation before the call is connected.

It was actually suspected before that satellite phones were vulnerable to attack, so organisations requiring privacy and the military would often employ an extra level of encryption over the built-in encryption.

What can an attacker do?

With the means to decrypt GMR-1 and GMR-2 it is possible for an attacked to eavesdrop on live calls, record calls, alter SMS messages in transit, or pose as another caller in a man-in-the-middle style of attack.

The primary areas that satellite phones are used are in the Middle East, but they are also common in remote mining and military operations. While military operators, paramilitary contractors and some mining contractors are likely to have secured their satellite phones with extra layers of encryption, this poses a risk to the safety of the users using unsecured satellite phones.

The equipment needed to set up an eavesdropping station would cost as little as $2000, requiring only a computer and radio receiver connected to each other, and software to break the encryption.

How was it done

The German team broke the encryption by disassembling the firmware updates for a Thuraya SO-2510 satellite phone. Inside the phone are two processors – one for the user interface and applications on the phone, the second is the DSP chip which processes digital voice signals. Typically a phone will contain a separate third chip, which handles the cryptography (security). For satellite phones, due to the smaller production runs, it is cheaper to combine the cryptographic functions onto the CPU used for DSP.

When a firmware update for the DSP was provided, it also contained useful cryptographic information. This allowed the team to fully reverse engineer the encryption methods. As a result, GMR-1 can be broken in about 30 minutes on an average PC, and GMR-2 can be broken in less than a minute.

Hopefully, we will see satellite phone providers changing the encryption systems used as a matter of urgency, to minimise the large security hole that exists for every satellite phone user out there.

This article on security comes from HirePulse, a great website for businesses and contractors to get together, especially mining contractors.

I have been a customer of Virgin TV for as long as I have been in my current home. Of course it wasn’t called Virgin then, but Virgin TV took over the company that were supplying me with the myriad of channels that kept the children entertained and the (now ex) husband supplied with more football and sports channels than he could possibly watch. Now, ten years down the line things have changed. The children have grown up and there is no husband anymore.

Changing Viewing Habits

Gone are the days when the TV was on at all hours to catch a certain football match or other sporting event. No longer is the TV on all day to keep small children amused. I am so out of touch with children’s programming now it’s ridiculous. In fact it is very rare for the television to be on during the day at all. I have changed the bundle of channels on and off over the years to cater to the needs of family, when money has been tight the subscription has been cut back and when money has been less of an issue the bundle of channels were increased again.

I have always found that when I have had to contact Virgin they have been very helpful and often chatty, not just focussing on the hard sell or simply going through the motions that other customer services seem to do. I have to admit that the automated menus and recorded messages are very annoying and can sometimes seem endless, plus the music or messages that you hear when you are on hold can drive you to distraction, but I know that when I get through to the right department there will be a human voice on the other end of the phone that will listen to me and help me.

Back to Basics

At this moment in time, after another call to the people at Virgin TV I have gone right back to square one with just the basic channels. It’s all I need now. The children regularly come round with DVD’s they think I will enjoy and to be honest that’s enough for me. I don’t need to be paying for something I have no intention of using and the people at Virgin seem to understand this, and have always been happy to chop and change my television bundles when I ask. They have always turned up on time when they have had to come out to look at the set top box or even replace it and install a new one for me.

Compared to other services that I subscribe to like the gas and the electric Virgin give me very little to complain about. So now when I sit down to watch the evening news or catch up on a soap opera I don’t have to wade through dozens of useless and expensive channels, I have what I want where and when I want it. I am also reassured by the fact that should anything go wrong with the box or if I need to add the sports channels again (you never know) I can get everything done with a simple phone call to a human being on the end of the telephone.

Do you know what Virgin TV package best suits your needs? Do you want the basic channels? Movie and sports? Or maybe you want broadband included? Digital TV Advice can help you compare the packages available.
