Everyone in today’s world has a website. Be it a computer professional or a non technical user. But, How can non technical users create such a flashy and attractive website without even the basic knowledge of HTML ? ( Hyper Text Markup Language) . Its because a lot of services have come up which offer them a interface through which they create a website with just drag and drop. One such service is Wix. Wix offers you to create a website without even knowing a basic markup language. The only thing you need to know is to drag and drop objects ! Simple, isn't it ? So lets start creating our own webpage.
                 How do I explain how easy it is to create a website. Below are a few screenshots I have taken to demonstrate the ease of creating a webpage.

                     Now, I will tell you why this service is more popular than many others in this field. Many of them offer adding text, images, templates, widgets and more. But Wix not only offers this, Its also provides you to edit CSS. That means you can edit things like : if you hover the mouse on this image, it should enlarge and more such effects. I use blogger where I have to write CSS codes in the editor, link them to HTML codes and then a effect appears. The one who does not know CSS or HTML, what should he do ? So, wix offers CSS editing, and thats why its popular. One more feature I would like to mention is about Wix’s SEO. Usually search engines do not index flash websites properly. But wix gives a separate interface for SEO where you can edit meta tags for SEO. So, a website created with Wix will be SEO friendly.
                 The first thing you need to do is to select a template. There are thousands of templates for all kinds of websites. Select a template and edit it as per your need.That’s it, you have created a professional and a glossy webpage. Show off to your friends that you can create such a good webpage. You can go to the “explore’ section of wix and see how stunning websites can be made without any CSS.
              But, there are some negligible back draws too. Obviously, no service will give a free domain name until you opt for premium services (Free users will get a subdomain though).Your website will be like www.wix.com/youwebsitename. Other thing is you will have a small text ad at the bottom saying “This webpage is created by wix”. Other than these I have not notices any major draw back.
            If you want a website with your own domain name and no watermark , then first create a website according to your needs on a subdomain (www.wix.com/yourwebpage ). Then, select a premium service for the same website.

Today I am going to continue the same tutorial. I had not included all the tweaks there because of non-availablity of time. So today, here I am.

Coming to the topic I am not gonna type everything here because it’s better to have a video explaining you rather than reading so here it is. Sit back and enjoy !!!

One thing I have noticed is it takes a long time to load up the video. So, what you can do is change the video resolution to 360 or 480 pixels. The button is available at the right corner of the video

Malware–What is it ? How to defend ?–A Complete Guide

Malware is a big discussion today. One of the most searched question on google is “How can I get rid of a Malware ?”. So, What is Malware actually? How can it affect one’s computer? How to defend against these ? These are usual question everyone wants to know about. So, Today I am going to explain it completely so that you can understand its working and defend it. Malware is a big problem today. Many innocent users are getting affected by it. One can control your whole computer by simply installing it on your computer. I will explain each on these in steps so that it becomes easy to understand.

What is a Malware ?

A malware is a shorter version of ‘Malicious Software’. It is a software coded to execute certain programs which the user does not want to run. Its very harmful, Its effect can range from a simple prank by your friend to stealing your passwords by a hacker or using your computer as a bot for a DDoS attack. Then, how is it run without the knowledge of the user. Its usually hidden inside a software or a game or whatever. Say, someone says you that he is giving you a premium software which has been cracked to you for free. What do you do ? You simply install it. The moment you double click, the program starts installing, right? But, what you will not know is that some other hidden program too is being executed behind the screen. These malicious program can be coded such that they bypass your firewall, cannot be detected by you antivirus program and so on . . . Got how it actually works ?

What are different types of Malware?

So, next we move on next to the types of Malware.

Viruses
Viruses are created by us, humans for destructive purposes. They cannot spread by themselves. A spread just like how I told above, usually hidden inside a nice looking software or a game or anything. Viruses can be destructive. Suppose you are a programmer and can solve any kind of problem or in simple terms can develop a program. In the same way, anyone can program anything and can make you execute the same. understood ?
Trojan Horse
A trojan horse is not as effective as a virus and is usually used to prank on someone or do silly things like changing the wallpaper or disabling task manager or making your computer hang. It can also be used to do some serious things like stealing passwords, cookies, recording your keystrokes (Keylogger) and the list goes on . . .
Worms
A worm is a malicious program that can replicate itself and can spread by itself, unlike a virus where a human has to spread it. Once a worm is on a computer, it will send out copies of itself to various servers, other computers and so on .
Bacteria
A bacteria is a simple code when executed will repeat itself and will eventually take up the whole memory ! All you computer resources, RAM, disk space will be exhausted. It can be coded in a notepad like this

What this piece of code does is, it opens notepad infinite times !!! and it takes up all the resources of your computer and makes your computer to hang.

Logic Bombs

Its a malicious program which will lie hidden until you perform a certain action. After you perform that action, the code is triggered and it gets executed. Say, the malicious program is not to be triggered until you open Firefox. After you click on firefox, say the program is coded to record your keystrokes and send it to a particular email address. This is how logic bomb works.

Combined Threat

A combined threat (Blended Threat) is actually what it sounds like… It combines all of the above features and is made to execute at the same time. You can just imagine the amount of harm it causes to a computer.

How are Malwares Programmed ?

Malwares can be programmed using any programming language. Maybe C, C++, Python or anything else. VB can be used to make a program look more innocent and attractive, although API’s can be used for C. They can be programmed to be a simple prank or a deadly virus which can affect your hardware. Phishing techniques can be used to make a program look genuine.

Countermeasures to be taken

There can be thousands of countermeasures to be taken to defend a malware. I am mentioning only a few of popular ones here.
1. Most of the malwares are usually spread on the net. Have a good site advisor to show you whether a site is trustful or not. Read This post of mine to get a good advisor or a link checker –> How To : Be Completely Secured While Surfing the Web.
2. Download a reliable and a good antivirus program and keep it updated daily( Its important). Make sure you have set it to download updates automatically. Here is a review and download link of MS security essentials, Malwarebytes and Spybot , although you can have a other one –> ‘Best Programs For Every PC' Part – 1.
3. Do download whatever program or game or anything else only from trusted sites. Do not go for torrents or free sharing sites until you trust the one who has uploaded it.
4. Use a firewall. You can do a google search to find a good one.Read more about firewalls here.
5. Use Mozilla Firefox as you webbrowser. you can have a lot of security addons about phishing scams, site advisors and others.
6. Always Update windows and turn automatically install updates to ‘true’.
7. If you really want to download something from web, do test it against malwares here before using

How To : Be Completely Secured While Surfing the Web

Hello readers, I have not posted since last week coz I had my exams. Its all over now and we are again back giving you tutorials about PC. Let me come back to the topic. So, we all navigate on web everyday, We see so many things, We learn some or the other thing everyday, We download so many things from the web. Internet has become a source for everything we need, isn’t it? But the important thing that we forget is how secure we are? Does the website contain any malicious links, harmful downloads, wrong information? How to know this.

McAfee Site Advisor

One thing that left me satisfied after trying out so many softwares was McAfee site advisor. I have tried many anti-viruses that come with the results whether a site is safe or not. But in my opinion McAfee site advisor is the best!. Why is it so? Why not other ones when so many such softwares are available? McAfee site advisor scans and tests malware from each corner of a website, unlike other ones. Not only this, McAfee analyses each of the subscription emails that a website sends to each of its customer. They scan all those emails and see whether they can find any malware. There are more for which McAfee scans to confirm for a malware. They include Browser exploits, identifying phishing sites, Web reputation, Online marketing vulnerabilities and more. That’s why i recommend this for every computer user. You can see how it actually works in detail here.
It’s not a free software though you can have a free trial, just try it for a month. There is nothing much difficult in installing it. You have to just follow the instructions and that’s it.

However I recommend McAfee, if you want a free one similar to this, I have given the links of certain programs which I used to use earlier.

This amazing Burner really reserves the first place of my post. The name of this software is a little misleading. 1) It’s not a pro(premium) program but its free !.2)It not only burns CD’s but also burns DVD’s and 3) It not only works with windows XP but also with Windows 95 and all other higher versions. I listed this here because the usage is very simple. A non-advanced user too can use it without confusions. Open the program, Choose the right option what you wanna do, and yes it has all kind of applications as in any other premium burner. Then, drag the files to the interface, Click on Burn. VLC Media Player is a long-time open-source favourite. Why I choose VLC is because it supports all kind of media files from OGG to HD codecs like Raw and Dirac, It supports them all !. Its start-up time is very less, its supports all kinds of codecs and you don't have to download a separate pack of codecs, It plays like charm, has a thin interface and all these make it to the top of my list. Overall, VLC Media Player is a must-have application for its ability.

Player is one of the most powerful freeware video players . It includes a video- and audio-capturing options, as well as skins, playback controls and tweaks, and broad DVD support. It supports all major file formats. It has an extra feature to play Incomplete/Damaged AVI file. There are lot of buttons which you can use for various features. One disadvantage of this freeware is that it uses more resources compared to VLC or any other player and it asks to download ASK.com toolbar. Just go for custom installation and don't download it. At last, It has lot of features to play around with. So, its nice media player at the end.

If you want to customize a image according to your needs. What would you do? Go with Photoshop? No, It’s not going to be quick. So, what do you do? Paint.net is the answer. It’s an open source software with all essential tools. It has the ability to to crop, rotate, and resize images, adjust colours, and create collages etc. There are features like red-eye removal tool, layers, history, and has an actions manager. The pleasing interface boasts semi-transparent windows for ease of use. Paint.net is a freeware, light, quick, simple-to-use program. Paint.NET is far more advanced than Microsoft Paint, and given its free , it's a must-have for anyone needing to fix images. Some people comment on it as useless program and crap blah blah blah. But, it not really so. . .

Camtasia Studio 7 – Premium

I have tried many screen recorders and I have found Camtasia studio to be the best. I provides HD recording, many dimensions are available for different types of websites in which you publish your videos. The interface is semi-transparent, nice design has been developed for Camtasia studio unlike its previous versions. When you create a video, you have some features of the video in common like the intros, the background music, the title clips, watermarks, transitions, etc. Camtasia 7 has therefore added something called libraries that lets you arrange all these “common” elements in one place so you can easily reuse them later. Camtasia studio allows you to use every kind of feature you expect in a screen recorder. It provides cursor effects, transitions, timeline selection, callouts, arrows and the list goes on endless. You have to use it if you want to experience it :) Well though its a premium program, it deserved a place in my post just because of applications it has. You can also download a trial version. The only backlog about this software is it takes more time for rendering videos.(Most of camcorders do take more time). Download a trial version, and see how it works for you.

This is one free video processing tool just made for home users(suppose so). It’s not a professional video editor like adobe premier or similar ones. But you can do general editing like merging videos, cutting scenes, convert them or apply different effects and customise like a VJ!. This program is easy to use, though seems a bit unfamiliar at beginning, but after few editing's you understand well. It can convert and compress video and audio, edit, capture, render, filter video files and features like these make it look no less than pro video editors. It's very easy to use, has a great amount of features for a video editor and it's free.

Hello Readers, In one of my older posts i had talked about PC Optimizer – A program to boost up your connections speeds. Softwares likes these make our experience on computer very comfortable, right?. So today i will list some more programs which are very useful and may be considered as a must have package for every PC. This list includes PC optimizers, cleaners, readers, multimedia softwares etc which are useful for a home user (advanced users too can use :) and all the programs listed here are free (99% of them)!. There are a lot of programs to list in one post, so I will be posting this content in 2 or 3 parts. Part one contains some basic system tools. I have listed these softwares on the basis of my experience, expert opinions and some online referral's too. Hope you find this post informative…

CCleaner

CCleaner is a free tool that allows you to delete unwanted files, cookies, temporary folder etc. This software is a boon for those who have a less disk space. It drastically frees up your valuable memory. You may ask “ Why this program and why not any other? There are lot of cleaners out there.” Its because of its speed (Normally takes a second to clean up). Its cleans up several valuable gigs of memory for me every month. CCleaner is safe and secure program. It wont delete any useful files. It also has a registry ccleaner which I would say is not the best. However, I there another registry cleaner down the list. Just give it a try and see how it works for you.

Malwarebytes AntiMalware

Malwarebytes is one of the best anti-malware tool. Even the free version of it is very effective and easy to use program. With a paid version, you can have features like real time protection, schedules scans,anti spam and regular schedules updates. I would recommend not to buy a pro version because its designed to work alongside with a good antivirus software. Its easy to use and nice interfaced program. Best feature of this program is the speed to scan thoroughly. It took some 7 minutes for me to scan my whole system !. The only thing that’s not good about this program is that it asks to reboot your system after removal of malware, But I highly recommend this program.

Spybot is a also a spyware removal tool. What i like about this program is its its ability to remove all kind of spyware and its not heavy on resources. It takes up very less amount of resources and does a very good job. Once this detects a spyware, it immediately places it in the list of restricted websites of internet explorer. Updates are regularly released and latest spywares will also be blocked. It also has a resident application feature , called teatimer that kills malicious processes. You can freely surf the web when you have this tool in your arsenal.

I would say its the best web browser for today’s needs. Best part of this browser is that user can edit all the variables of the program through about:config. It has a lot of features that are not so effective in other browsers that makes firefox the one at the top. Security features include in-built anti-malware, anti-phishing, private browsing, parental controls etc that you can customize according to your needs as well. It is a high performance browser which gives you super speed. Pages load faster and tries to reduce the ping. It gives a great competition to chrome and safari in terms of speed. It also allows you to personalise the looks. You can download different themes, toolbars and addons. The tabs are very impressive. I like the password management on firefox, unlike other browsers, it allows you to save only your usernames and not passwords. It supports a lot of markup languages like CSS 3, HTML 5, XML and more. You have addons for every kind of customization you need and all these features make it to the top of the list. What this program actually does is it moves the system files to the faster part of hard disk and organises the files in a neat way. The program is fast, light, easy to use, free and what more can you ask for ? I have tried out a good number of defraggers and found out this to be the BEST !. The interface is designed nice and cleanl. Every thing is good about this program and I really recommend you use it.

Perfect Optimizer

This is another PC optimizing software which I found to worth post it here. This is one software which I would like to call it as ALL IN ONE software program. Its not a free software though you can download a trial version for a month and try it. Its one of those softwares which provides you every kind of feature readily available into it. It has a lot of cleaners. It has features like repairs, Optimizer, Security , Speed up, Backups and others. If you click on anyone of these, there are more submenus and offer you every kind of optimization. Like if you go into cleaner, it has registry cleaner, evidence cleaner, junk file cleaner, duplicate cleaner etc. So I would say it as ALL IN ONE package. It has nice interface and provides easy navigation. A beginner or a intermediate user should always have this program with him.

CPU –Z

I have listed a lot of softwares here( and more are coming up too!…) . Softwares are very useful, is’nt it?. But what about the hardware which is the cause for all these softwares ? Everyone pays attention to hardware when they buy computers, but what after that? This software called CPU Z displays in-depth information about what’s going on in your machine. There are five tabs in this programs where different information is displayed on each tab. The first tab is called CPU and it will show you information on the processor of your computer. Next is the Cache tab. The Cache tab displays the L1 data cache (with size and descriptor), L1 Instruction Cache and L2 Cache. There’s a memory section, In Memory section, the user will find details about the type, size and channels. The timings give you the frequency, FSB, latency, delay, DRAM idle timer, cycle time, bank cycle time and command rate. MS Security Essentials

To say really, this antivirus really deserved the first place in my post, However, I remembered it now. This is a free antivirus program by microsoft which will ensure better security of your computer. Nowadays we here of many antivirus programs which are rated number one in rankings. Then why this? What I liked about this program was it was light, fast, secure and well built. It took me just two minutes for me to download with my broadband connection. Microsoft updates this very frequently with latest signatures, malware etc as they come out. It’s incredibly fast. It took just 15 minutes to scan my whole PC. MSE offers you real time protection, but I am not sure of zero – day threats. They sometimes get through MSE!. The real-time scanner is effective. I tested Eicars test virus, and MSE was offering to clean it off . If a new piece of malware appears on the net, and if it's detected by MSE, then it'll report back to Microsoft, and the information used to help build a signature file that can be delivered to every MSE update. Microsoft Security Essentials is one of the simplest and easiest to use anti-malware tools around. It's quick, unobtrusive and works without slowing your PC down. Keyboard shortcuts are a combination of keys, when pressed execute certain functions. Everyone using windows ought to know some useful keyboard shortcuts which i will be listing below. You may say "We also have a mouse in our hand so why is the daunting task of remmembering shortcuts required?". Yes, ofcourse you may have a mouse, but it sometime sucks !. For example : If you want to minimize all the windows, then what will you do? Go to the top of each and every window and press that - button there. No !. Just press
Windows key + m. It minimizes all the windows open. Easy right?. And about remmembering those keys, just press be experimenting or keep pressing those keys whenever you require and they get stuck into your memory.
Well, I am listing a list of useful shortcuts which are required for everyday use. Keep Pressing them !

ALT + LETTER : Select menu by underlined letter,
For Ex : Look at the top of your browser, there is a underlined F in file, So press Alt + F and see what it does.
ALT + F4 : Close a Active window.
CTRL + (LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW) : Move cursor forward or back by one letter.
F1 : Open help for active application.
WINDOWS + m : Minimize.
WINDOWS + F1 : Open Windows help.
WINDOWS + BREAK : Open System Properties.

Accessiblity Shortcuts

RIGHT SHIFT FOR EIGHT SECONDS : Switch filter keys on or off.
LEFT ALT + LEFT SHIFT + PRTSCN : Switch high contrast on or off.
LEFT ALT + LEFT SHIFT + NUMLOCK : Switch mouse keys on or off.
SHIFT FOR FIVE TIMES : Switch Sticky keys on or off.
NUM LOCK FOR FIVE SECONDS : Switch toggle keys on or off.

Explorer Shortcuts.

END : Display the bottom of the active windows.
HOME : Display the top of Active Windows.
ALT + RIGHT ARROW : Back.
ALT + LEFT ARROW : Forward.

Web Browser

Just type "google" in the URL bar and press Ctrl + Enter. See What happens !

SHIFT : when you insert a CD into the CD-ROM drive Prevent the CD from automatically playing.

Windows Key Shortcuts

WIN Key : Display or hide the Start menu.
WIN Key+D : Show the desktop.
WIN Key+ L : Lock your computer if you are connected to a network domain, or switch users if you are not connected to a network domain.
WIN Key+U : Open Utility Manager.

Speed up your Internet connections with TCP Optimizer

Today, I am going to share a internet tweaking tool that will work wonders!. You will see a drastic change in your connection speed after reading this post (of course you have to implement it too! ).
Introduction

Registry is an important part of internet connection tweaking. If you want to speed up your internet connection, then you have to change your registry values. Doing so is cumbersome as you have to go to each and every key, find the parameters to change and change the values. So what is the alternate we choose for ? Yes, its a tool called TCP Optimizer.One more reason why it is beneficial is because it provides a visible interface with which you can understand TCP parameters well.So lets first download this tool.

After you have downloaded this wonderful tool. Just open the program.
Let us go into the settings.
Settings

Well, if you dont want to go into confusions and just tweak it or if you want every term to be explained, scroll down through the page.
Tweaking it fast !
Check your maximum connection speed. How to do this? You can check your bandwidth using any service you like. I am going to check my bandwith using speed test. Just click here to go to speedtest.net. Just click on your nearest location and let it check for your bandwidth speed. Refer to the picture below.

Adjust the connection speed with the results you obtained there. Please do not adjust "connection speed" field to the maximum. It is not going to do any good to you, whereas it will affect your speeds more. The software will set in proper values in the registry, so do not give wrong settings there. After you are done with these, Make sure you have checked "Modify all network adapters"
Pick "Optimal settings" at the bottom of the interface. Click on 'Apply changes' button and reboot your computer.

If you are not satisfied with the speed you are getting with the current settings (Dont expect it to increase speed by more than 2x), you can understand each and every detail of every setting and set custom values. Speeding Up a PC with Readyboost

Many people generally complain about slow PC's. So what to do? Well, easiest and a premium way is to upgrade you RAM memory. You will never be satisfied with your RAM memory anytime (at least in my case). Another simple and cheap way is to use readyboost feature. Nowadays all Windows OS come with readyboost feature. All you need to do this trick is have a USB flash device. Commonly used data and programs will run more quickly when you use readyboost. Readyboost also frees up RAM used by prefetch. Depending on your PC configuration, you may see dramatic speed improvement after implementing this trick.

The maximum flash memory windows can use for this feature is 4 GB. If you choose to buy a flashdrive, buy flashdrives with USB 2.0 or higher(Most of the flashdrives provide this).

Now after you have done with all this, Connect the flashdrive with the PC. I will explain you how to do in steps.

Go to my computer and right click >> Properties.
Go to readyboost tab. If not present then Navigate to Start >> Run >> services
Then search for Readyboost and go to its properties.Start the service.
Choose Automatic and click OK. Now comeback to My computer, Right click on your flash drive and select properties. Then Navigate to Readyboost. A Window appears as shown below.

Set the value of space reserved to what windows recommends and choose 'use this device'.
Then hit OK.

So thats all ! After you have done this you will see a change in system speed.

When you want to remove your device, just remove your device by selecting "Safely remove hardware". Windows will recognize that you have to remove the devices and reconfigures itself. You dont have to configure it again.

What do you do if this hack does not work ?

As i said above, all flashdrives wont work if they dont have USB 2.0. But, Windows Vista notifies you immediatly whether a device is compatible for Readyboost or not. Here what to do . . .

Run event viewer by typing eventvwr.msc at run.
Make sure you are on "Applications and services log" in the tree view.
Then navigate to Microsoft >> Windows >> Readyboost >> Operational.
You will see all the events related to readyboost, scroll down them until you see the reason for readyboost not working. Refer the picture below

RAM - The one which decides your PC speed

Hello readers, This is my first post here at blogger. So please do support me :) Well Before jumping into the real world ( pc tricks) let me introduce a basic and an important device of the computers - RAM. So what a RAM actually is ? Well, its just a memory device. There are two kinds of memory which are used in computers

1) Primary Memory

2)Secondary Memory

We will focus on primary memory here as RAM is a part of primary memory. Primary memory is fast, light and consumes less power. It is a static device and rotating parts are involved in it as in hard disks. As you know, the storage capacity of computer is measured in bytes.

Primary memory stores data, programs etc which are currently needed by the CPU. The CPU communicates directly only with the main memory. CPU works at a very high speed and its matching memory must be fast, right? Primary memory devices provide the matching speed. RAM is volatile( the contents gets erased once the computer is switched off)

So, what are the functions of primary memory? Well, They include

1) To contain the copy of the main operating system. Operating system is loaded into RAM when the system is turned on

2) Temporarily store a copy of application program that is currently being executed.

3)temporarily store the data input required for processing. for ex: Suppose you are filling up a login form, even after you enter your password, the input will temporarily loaded only up till you fill the whole details like password etc.

4)Temporarily store the output till it is transferred to the output device

There are two types of primary memories 1)RAM (Random access memory)2) ROM

I will only be dealing with RAM for now

RAM is the main memory of the computer. Users can write information into the RAM and read information from it. It has Random acess property that means any memory location can be accessed in a random manner unlike going through any other memory location.

There are two types of RAM. One is the Static RAM and the other a Dynamic RAM

Static RAM retains stored information as long as power supply is on but a dynamic RAM loses its stored information in a very short time ( A few milliseconds to be precise) Therefore dynamic RAM's have to be refreshed periodically (approx 2 ms).

Dynamic RAM is cheaper as they consume less power. Static RAM is costlier and comsumes more power. The RAM we generally use in PC's are all generally Dynamic RAM's as they are cheaper.

These are the basics of RAM a computer user needs to know.
