¡Buenas noticias! El Parlamento portugués aprobó una ley de matrimonios del mismo sexo la semana pasada, lo que hará que el país la octava en el mundo para tener la igualdad de derechos en el matrimonio en todo el país.
Presidente Cavaco Silva todavía puede vetar la ley, pero no ha habido ninguna indicación de que está dispuesto a hacerlo, lo que le da una muy buena oportunidad de ser ratificado. Es alentador que el proyecto de ley provocó la oposición muy poco en el público, incluso entre los conservadores sociales.
No estoy seguro de qué país será el próximo, pero voy a tomar apuestas durante toda la mañana en que país es más probable que dé igualdad de derechos y libertades a todos sus ciudadanos antes que el otro: los Estados Unidos ... o Eslovenia. (Y sólo una cabeza de arriba para mis amigos en Estados Unidos, Eslovenia ha reconocido gay asociaciones registradas desde 2005 y es probable que enviar un mismo proyecto de ley de matrimonio homosexual ante el Parlamento este año, cree que puede vencer a ello?)

I recently started a lending team called Global Oasis, at Kiva.org. Kiva is an organization that allows, those who can and wish to do so, the opportunity of empowering individuals by making small loans directly to unique entrepreneurs around the globe. Kiva is one of the better known non profit microfinancing organizations.

I chose to start with Kiva because I worked with them before some time back. My experience was totally positive. They have an outstanding team, keep us informed and up to date about the people we loan to and they have an outstanding repayment track record. The About Kiva page has pretty much any information you may wish to have prior to making any decisions. I will also be more than happy to address any questions. Just drop me an email.

As you have noticed I've been away for a few. This was a very good thing. Can't beat recharging the batteries, getting a fresh view on a new day. One of the things that has served to inspire, has been having the enormous pleasure of cyber meeting Velcrow Ripper. He is the force behind, in front of and all around "Fierce Light When Spirit Meets Action" a stunning documentary, the 2nd in a trilogy of films.

FIERCE LIGHT continues the quest for a fusion between spirituality and activism previously explored in Velcrow Ripper's award-winning feature documentary ScaredSacred (Special Jury Prize, Toronto International FIlm Festival). It was executive produced by Mark Achbar, ( The Corporation -Audience Award, Sundance ).

Do your self a favor. Find where this film will be screened and do what you can to get there.

Who would have thunk it? Together with a couple of friends we have started our own network called Oasis And an Oasis is our hope for it. A place to come and spend some time away from the grind. A refuge, someplace serving as a relief, or pleasant change from what is usual, annoying, difficult. An opportunity to make a difference with an open heart and caring spirit.

We're just getting started. We have much work ahead of us yet to do. But do it we will because we all need to know that such a place exists and is just a click away. And that first click will take you to our main page where you can get an idea of who we are and what we hope for. From there it's just a simple process to join, which I hope you will. We already have some new, gifted and talented members who are ready and willing to share insights of challenges met and personal growth.

A Candle for Peace New Year Renewed Hope Peace to All

As we enter into this new year of 2009 I want to offer an idea as my contribution to our global community for a more peaceful world. Perhaps a simple notion giving the state of affairs that presently exists, yet, with each person holding intent clear, a small way to feel united wherever we find ourselves.

The idea came from a group I belong to. Candle for Tibet. On New Years Eve place a candle on your windowsill and just at midnight light that candle with the intent that the light serve as a beacon to all who see it that their hearts be filled with joy, compassion and understanding.

Many cultures and spiritual traditions have used the candle light at their windows for ion of time as the symbol that that home was a haven to all who would grace their doors. What better way than to be counted amongst all those before who chose to be a beacon to all who wander in search of peace and comfort during times of distress,

Please join me in this endeavor to let all who see the candle burning brightly know just how many people around the world care for all of our well beings.

I ask that you post this notion to all, any other groups, social networks, blogs etc that you belong to. Tomorrow is the day. Lets let millions around the world know we are a safe haven. What we will have is a world a lit with hope for the work, the life we wish to live and pass on to our future.

"YES WE CAN" now is followed by "YES WE MUST" I had seen this future. I knew it was coming. But even that knowing paled to the reality that is. Hopes are high as are expectations. And usually with that comes a sense of trepidation, "What if...?"

But to any who may, once the elation has subsided to just an overwhelming sense of joy, experience hesitation at the task at hand, I say to you one foot in front of the other, one breath at a time, good things came to those who waited.

Keep that hope alive. Know that our future is in our capable hands as we demonstrated this past Tuesday. Stand together, hold each other up and continue being the wonderful you that you are. Yes, the challenges are many and difficult, but just look at what we have done.

When the call came we rose to the occasion. We always have, we always will because...

If The World Could Vote Who Would They Choose?

A friend just sent me this "If The World Could Vote?" to a web site created by a couple of guys from Iceland. Ok maybe they have a bit of time on there hands. But just allow yourself to imagine, if only for a moment, the possibility of the world actually having a say in the outcome of an election. Or any other concern that has the potential of affecting so many people for the next 4 to 8 years.

Check it out, cast your vote, see the results and learn what the world wishes for us and themselves. Because the truth of the matter is that whomever is chosen by our fine citizens here in the USA will have the attention of the world for the next 4 years in a way that is unprecedented.

And while I'm at it just a kind and gentle reminder: If you have not yet advanced voted please be sure to get your vote in on this next Tuesday November the 4th. If ever an election and your vote counted, THIS IS IT.

Pippy we'll miss you

It is with great sadness that I post the passing of Pippy the Schnoo life companion of my dear friend Cyndi. I can do no better justice to Pippy than to quote Cyndi's eulogy.

"Pippy The Schnoo - my little kitty-boy, sweetie pie, best friend, love of my life, four-legged guru, bed buddy, song collaborator, furry muse, and so much more - left his body last Tuesday October 14 around four o'clock in the sunny afternoon at home in my arms. The windows were open, a soft breeze was blowing, and we were surrounded by beautiful fragrant flowers friends had sent or brought by earlier when they came to say goodbye. It was very peaceful."
