Romans 13:1-6

Submission to Governing Authorities

¹ Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. ² Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. ³ For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. ⁴ For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. ⁵Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.

⁶ This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. ⁷ Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

I went to college, got a degree
I applied at local, state, and federal agencies
I endured testing, drug, psych, pollygraph, and comprehension
I went through backgrounds, family / friends, co-workers, neighbors - interviewed
I trained, before, during, after, the academy -
I sacrificed time, sleep, and hobby -

I am a police officer

I learned, lasted, endured, changed -
I worked midnights, patroled the streets while you slept
I stopped the guy that was lurking outside your walls
I came fast when you called for help
I stopped that man who was looking to do you harm

I am a police officer

I’ve broken ties of family, friends who choose a different path
I’ve been looked down upon, up to, and cast aside
I’ve answered questions, given advice, and even cried

I am a police officer

I’ve seen the things they won’t even put in the news
I’ve held your babies after a crash
I’ve comforted you, calmed you, and told you to wait
I’ve seen you at your worst, your best, and inbetween

I am a police officer

I’ve asked you questions that touched your soul
I’ve started the process to help make you whole
I’ve talked to your sons, your daughters about unthinkable things
I’ve gone after the one who invades your dreams
I’ve held your hand when no one else would
I’ve seen and done more than anyone should

I am a police officer

I know about things that would keep you up at night
I go to sleep and rise again for the fight
I risk my body, my mind, and my soul
I take the lumps that at times only I know

I am a police officer

I am critizised for being too cold
I am told not to be warm or let emotions get hold
I am demonized in the news
I am blamed for financial woes
I am taken for granted by you
I have friends who have taken a life
I’ve known friends who have given theirs for you
I am a police officer

I strap on a gun, a bullet proof vest, taser, pepper spray, baton
I load a shot gun, slug gun, and rifle
I look for trouble before it finds you
I step between you and those who would do you harm
I give you orders, advice, and strength
I come when you call, nothing to big, or to small
I am professional, in word and in deed
I am agressive to those who do wrong
I am comforting to those in need
I am all things to you

I am a police officer

I am injured
I am stressed
I am fulfilled
I am trying to do the right thing
I am here, I am there, I am where you don’t want to be

I am a police officer

I have been bitten, and pushed
I have been struck by fist, feet, bottles, bats, and cars
I have been spit upon, thrown up on, and more
I continue to come back for more

I am a police officer

I am brave, I am strong
I am soft, I am caring
I look to help, to change what I can
I am human too, look me in the eye
I live, love, work, play, and die
I have kids in school, go to church, and pray
I am involved with the community in which I play

Next time you drive down the street

The following is a poem written by Judge Roy Moore from Alabama . Judge Moore was sued by the ACLU for displaying the Ten Commandments in his courtroom foyer. He has been stripped of his judgeship and now they are trying to strip his right to practice law in Alabama ! The judge's poem sums it up quite well.

America the beautiful,
or so you used to be.
Land of the Pilgrims' pride;
I'm glad they'll never see.

Babies piled in dumpsters,
Abortion on demand,
Oh, sweet land of liberty;
your house is on the sand.

Our children wander aimlessly
poisoned by cocaine
choosing to indulge their lusts,
when God has said abstain

From sea to shining sea,
our Nation turns away
From the teaching of God's love
and a need to always pray

We've kept God in our
temples,how callous we have grown.
When earth is but His footstool,
and Heaven is His throne.

We've voted in a government
that's rotting at the core,
Appointing Godless Judges;
who throw reason out the door,

Too soft to place a killer

The Voice of the Lord
For your love is better than wine (Song of Song of Solomon 1:2).
The Bible has a love song—the Song of Shlomo (Solomon)—which some consider a beautiful allegory about a bridegroom and bride, representing God and us. At its beginning, the bride says of the bridegroom, "For your love is better than wine." Significantly, the Hebrew reads ki-tovim dodeykha miyyayin, not "your love" but "your loves [plural] are better than wine."
We, as the bride, must speak these words, for God not only has love for us, but has abundant "loves." When you lean on the Lord, as a child learning to walk, God loves you with one love. But when you fall and need comfort, he loves you with another love. When you're young in him, zealous and naïve, he loves you with one love. When you are old in the Lord, deeply rooted and wise, he loves you with another. The love with which he loves you today is a new love, not an old love. He loves you tonight, not with this morning's love, nor this morning with last night's love. His love is new every morning and every moment.

God has many loves for us, more than enough for a lifetime. Receive the new love he has for you right now as you say with your heart, "Your loves are more delightful than wine."

Great Scientific Discoveries by Godly Men: By Pastor Brad Abley

- Galileo Galilei (1564-1642), an Italian mathematician, also demonstrated mathematically that universal truths, or the laws of nature, governed the universe. He reasoned that since God is one, the universe must have unity. Thus, what was real was that which could be measured. His discoveries led to the inventions of modern machinery.

- Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727), a very devout christian and British mathematics professor at Cambridge University in England, then came up with an even greater discovery: The universal law of gravity, published in one of the greatest books ever written: The Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy (1687), or Principia. The Father of modern science, his Principia is still the foundation of modern scientific thought. He also developed the Biomial Theory, Calculus and he invented the first successful reflecting telescope. His discoveries led to the development of modern physics.

-Of the universe, Newton wrote,
This most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being. And if the fixed stars are the centers of other like systems, these being formed by the like wise counsel, must be subject to the dominion of the One...This Being governs all things...as Lord over all. The Supreme God is Being eternal, infinite, absolutely perfect...He endures forever and is everywhere present.

-In 1641, Blaise Pascal, a French mathematician and philosopher (and another devout Christian), invented the predecessor to the modern calculator, and English scientist Robert Boyle formulated the laws of gases (1662), earning him the title, "Father of Modern Chemistry."

The above geniuses - all Christians - praised God for the reason He had give them to discover what only He could reveal.

Greetings and Happy New Year !

As I think about this new year, I am reminded of who we are in Christ. If we believe Jesus is who He says He is (God) and in the One who sent Him; If we turn from our sins and seek to glorify Him; we are new creations, born again - Our old nature is crucified with Christ and our new nature is raised with Him.

The following verse serves as a reminder.....

1 Corinthians 1 18-31

18For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written:

"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;

the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."^[c^]

20Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength.

26Brothers, think of what you were when you were called.
