Accommodations are in three satellite buildings designed to blend in with the surroundings - they look, from the outside, just like the houses of the surrounding villages. Nagarkot buddha peace Park Hiking Trail

The first part of the walk will pass through traditional villages with terraced farming where you can see the countryside lifestyle. You can also see the kathmandu valley and shivapuri national park from this hiking trail. After walking for about 45 minutes passing through sunrise hotel, few Charming home stays where you can pose for a while for herbal tea and om shanti meditation center, you will see a very nice statue of Buddha in a nice garden posing Infront of green jungle. After spending few time admiring the beauty, you can return back to the town of Nagarkot from another side of village to make one complete loop.

The second part of the trail passing back to town passes through two villages gauri gaun and bakri gaun and lots of farmlands. Depending the seasons of the year, you can see different crops and vegetables planted in the agriculture land. The last part of the trail is an uphill walk back to town. Its a very refreshing walk with nice Himalayan views as well. This hike can be done whole year around.

Kathmandu is crazy but mountains tell a different story. The trek will take through the Lush greenery of the Kathmandu valley rim passing through two beautiful hillstations (Nagarkot and dhulikhel) lying in the foothills of the Himalayas. Nagarkot to Dhulikhel hiking is an excellent choice for those planning to be in close with nature with a fresh mountain air inside a pine forests and villages before reaching the hillstation of dhulikhel. It is a good 16 km walk with an altitude drop of more than 800 meters and will take around good 5 hours to complete this trekking with ever changing landscapes.

It is a panoramic trail in the valley rim and a part of Kathmandu valley cultural trekking trail with an altitudinal drop of 600 meters from Nagarkot (2100m) to Dhulikhel (1500m) above sea level. You will enjoy the stunning views of the eastern and central himalayas

The highest peaks that can be seen here are Everest (8850m), Cho oyu (8), Manaslu (8156m), Annapurna(8010m), Dhaulagiri (8176m), shishapangma (8) along with lots of peaks above 7000 meters, 6000 meters. The crow fly distance of the mountains from Nagarkot ranges from 50km (jugal range of the nearest range of the Himalayas to the kathmandu valley) to 150km far (everest). Some famous that can be seen includes Numbur peak(6,958 m), melungtse (7200), gauri Shankar(7,134 m), dorje lakpa (6,966 m), langtang ri (7205 m), Phurbi Chyachu (6,722 m) , ganesh himal(7,422 m) , himalchuli (7900m), Gur Karpo Ri (6,874 m), Gyaltzen Peak (6,705 m) etc.

You will pass through cool pine trees, terraced farmlands, villages and jungle again before reaching the hillstation of dhulikhel.

The first part of the hike will go through the pine forests for around 10 km with sounds of birds chirping inside and the second part will be pass through terraced farmlands and villages of local people cultivating different vegetables for the remaining 8 km before reaching the hillstation of dhulikhel. It is a part of kathmandu valley cultural trekking trail and is one of the best hiking routes within kathmandu valley. This trekking can also be done in the thick of winter as it is below 3000 meters.

It is an ideal choice for trekkers who have limited time in nepal however want to have a taste of trekking and also an ideal hiking to do acclimitazition before heading up to the himalayas. This hike can be done with family with children.

Please note that this section of the trek can be confusing with the roads ever changing. Note the main villages mentioned in this itinerary and be sure to repeatedly with the local people ask for directions.

TRIP NOTES:

Start your day early after morning sunrise over the Himalayas ( weather permitted), breakfast and make sure you kick off the hike before 9 am as you will reach dhulikhel in time or catch bus to Kathmandu ( before 5 pm) if you are returning back to KTM. Ideally recommended to stay overnight at dhulikhel or if you have still energy, take a bus to Namo Buddha or taxi for monastery stay.
Dhulikhel is a big town in the crossroads of highway where you will finish the hike. The tourist town of dhulikhel is quite another km of walk. You will finish your hike near to Himalayan Horizon Hotel, near to Araniko highway – 500m from the bus park.
You can either stay overnight in Dhulikhel or if you are arrive early, hop on the local bus to Namobuddha to have an amazing stay at Namobuddha monastery.
As there is quite a considerable amount of steps, better to carry trekking sticks with you.
This trekking can also be done in winter as it is below 2500 meters.

Recommended itinerary

After your morning sunrise and breakfast, start your hike early to dhulikhel (5hrs) loaded with fruits and water. When you reach dhulikhel, you can either stay at dhulikhel. However, if you want to stay in a more peaceful place, it is highly recommended to stay overnight at the Namobuddha monastery, perched on the top of the hill and around 12 km from Dhulikhel. Nagarkot sunrise is one of the main attraction of Nagarkot, weather permitted of course. The best time to see the glory of the Himalayas is to wake up before the crack of dawn then head to the view tower of Nagarkot located 4 km from the main town, 1 hour walk with an elevation gain of 200 meters which will be a great exercise to clear your head. I recommend walking in the morning before sunrise as I believe in the mountains, you should be healthy and I believe in #healthyactivelifestyle . 

The tower boasts one of the broadest views of the Himalayas with 6 out of 14 highest peaks above 8000 meter can be seen from here on a crystal clear day though it can be just a little tip haha.. The highest peaks that can be seen here are Everest (8850m), Cho oyu (8), Manaslu (8156m), Annapurna(8010m), Dhaulagiri (8176m), shishapangma (8) along with lots of peaks above 7000 meters, 6000 meters.  The crow fly distance of the mountains from Nagarkot ranges from 50km (jugal range of the nearest range of the Himalayas to the kathmandu valley) to 150km far (everest). Some famous that can be seen includes Numbur peak(6,958 m), melungtse (7200), gauri Shankar(7,134 m), dorje lakpa (6,966 m), langtang ri (7205 m), phurbi chu , ganesh himal(7,422 m) , himalchuli (7900m), etc.

The best time to see these majestic snowcovered peaks are in the mountains where all these peaks glow with the rays of sunshine gently spraying towards these peaks. The colour of these peaks changes from blue to grey into orange which is like fire in ice. It's like sun rays painting the canvas in the sky. It's this magical spectacle of orange ball of fire rising above the peaks with the surreal glow which will captivate everyone's heart and soul. First Part (Nature Walk) You will start this trail with quiet walk inside the pine trees where you can enjoy the freshness of nature and take lots of mountain oxygen. The initial Nature Trail is a lovely walk through a dense coniferous forest. Second Part (Village Walk) After you will complete the nature trail, you will reach Kartike village from where you can see the mountain villages perched on the hill with terraced farmlands and if the weather is clear, you will be awarded with the stunning himalayan views. 3. Nagarkot buddha peace garden + Village hiking

The first part of the walk will pass through traditional villages with terraced farming where you can see the countryside lifestyle. You can also see the kathmandu valley and shivapuri national park from this hiking trail. After walking for about 45 minutes passing through sunrise hotel, few Charming home stays where you can pose for a while for herbal tea and om shanti meditation center, you will see a very nice statue of Buddha in a nice garden posing Infront of green jungle. After spending few time admiring the beauty, you can return back to the town of Nagarkot from another side of village to make one complete loop.

Nagarkot to Changu Narayan Temple Hiking Trail

This hiking route is one of the most popular hiking route around the kathmandu valley. It is a very beautiful hike to see both culture+nature. The first part of the trail passes through the traditional mountain villages, terraced farmlands with local settlements and the another half way passes through the pine forests with occassional valley views on the south side before the temple premises of Changu Narayan, one of the 7 World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu valley.

It is a 15 kms walk (4 hr) with an altitude drop of around 450 metres and we arrive in a Changu Narayan temple. The entrance fee is Rs. 100 per person (1$) and the temple is well known for its artistic beauty in the wood carving rather than religious one. Changu Narayan Temple is located 6 km from Bhaktapur and every 30 minutes, one local bus to bhaktapur. There are decent restaurants in the temple area for lunch. Nagarkot to Changu Narayan temple hiking is a very recommended hiking for those returning back to Kathmandu or Bhaktapur and have a leisure day to do some green escape from Crazy Kathmandu.

GPS for Hiking Trail from Nagarkot to Changu Narayan

The temple of Changu Narayan, which is a Unesco World Heritage site is located about 6km north of Bhaktapur and 22km from Kathmandu on the top of the hill. It is the oldest temple of the Kathmandu Valley dating back to the 4^th Century however the present structure dates back to 18^th Century when it was rebuilt after a fire. The most impressive feature of this temple are the stone sculptures dedicated to God Vishnu dating back from the Licchavi period (4th to 9th centuries).

Why this temple is so special ???

The double-roofed temple is dedicated to lord Vishnu, god of protection. This temple is built in a pagoda style which is typical Nepali style with four doors in four sides of Nepal. is exceptionally beautiful, with many artistic wooden struts showing multi-armed Tantric deities. According to legend, as god Vishnu is the god of protection, whenever there is some troubles on earth, he takes different avatars for the protection of humankind. So, we can see lots of beautiful and artistic stone sculptures depicting different incarnations of god Vishnu such as Universal form, sleeping Vishnu, Nar singh avatar (half-man and half lion), etc.

These idols are masterpieces of stone sculptures and are praised by experts from all over the world. This is also known as open museum.

On the west side there is kneeling figure of Garuda said to date from the 5th century. Garunda is the mystical creature which is the vehicle of Vishnu and is also the national flag carrier of Indonesia. The man-bird mount of Vishnu has a snake around his neck and kneels with hands in the namaste position facing the temple. Stone lions guard the wonderfully gilded door, which is flanked by equally detailed gilded windows. Two pillars at the front corners carry a conch and disc, the traditional symbols of Vishnu.

Himalayas are the water towers of Asia. Squeezed between India and Tibet, it stretches from rich subtropical forest to soaring Himalayan peaks: from jungly tiger habitat to the precipitous hunting grounds of the snow leopard. Climbing the hillside of one valley alone you can be sweltering in the shade of a banana palm in the morning, and sheltering from a snowstorm in the afternoon.

Himalayas, a mountain system in southern Asia, the highest in the world. It is about 1,500 miles (2,400 km) long and about 100 to 150 miles (160 to 240 km) wide. The mountains form a massive barrier between the Plateau of Tibet on the north and the Indian subcontinent on the south.

Himalayas
Himalayas are divided into four parts and out of them, Nepal is one of it. In Nepal himalayas, we have 13 Himalayan ranges. Himalayan ranges are simply the collection of peaks which is separated by big rivers. Nagarkot is one of the best places in Nepal from where we can have the broadest views of the himalayas with 8 ranges out of 13 can be clearly seen.

Views from the Nagarkot view tower. It is a nice walk to the tower from the main market which is 4 kms uphill walk where you can enjoy the nature beauty with valley views as well with verdant valleys and lush greenery.

On the way to Nagarkot, you can see the rich tamang heritage villages with their social milieu where they still continue the traditional agriculture.
