The Benue State Police Command on Tuesday, paraded suspects arrested for various crimes in the state.

Briefing newsmen at the Command Headquarters in Makurdi, the Comissioner of Police, CP Omololu Bishi, said two of the suspects confessed to killing a young man for ritual purpose.

According to the CP, the father of the victim, Mr. Iorumbur Amanger of Tombo-Mbaya Buruku Local Government Area wrote a petition to the Command stating that Hyginus Lubem Mbachi of the same address defrauded him of the sum of Two Hundred and Nine Thousand; One Hundred and Fifty Naira (#209, 150) only being fee for the admission of his son Afa Amanger into a University in Cameroon. The said suspect left his house with his son to Cameroon and since then he could not communicate with his son.

"During investigation Hyginus Lubem Mbachii and one Gambo Bulus alias Murphy of Akwanga, Nasarawa State were arrested at Lafia, Nasarawa State on 22/02/2019 in connection with the case. The suspects confessed to have killed Afa Amanger since 05/01/2019 for ritual purpose and has been collecting money from the complainant for his own personal use"

Corpse of the deceased has been recovered from the Hospital where the suspects earlier abandoned the victim and ran away. The suspect will soon be arraign in Court.

The Command also arrested a gang of armed robbers and kidnappers that invaded the residence of one Hon. Stephen Tsav of North-Bank Area Makurdi in a black Toyota Corolla “Duck Nyash” with the intent to kidnap him.

"The victim raised alarm and timely response by the Police patrol team led to the arrest of Joseph Wagh ‘m’ and Terwase Igba ‘m’ both of Daudu Area in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. Further investigation led to the arrest of other gang members. One Felix Uuma alias “YELLOW”and Danladi Gbanwa alias 'DANFULANI” and recovery of one (1) Al(47 rifle loaded with (1) life ammunition. The suspects confessed to the crime and will soon be charged to court."

In a similar development, a suspected armed robber was arrested on February 23, during the routine Police patrol within Ugboju town and its environs.

The suspect, Emmanuel Ameh was arrested with one pump action rifle, one locally made revolver pistol, five live cartridges and assorted

mentioned Charles Ameh, Black Star, Mansion and Chester all of Otukpo Local Government Area to be members of the same robbery gang. Investigation is still in progress.

ARREST 0F SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS RECOVERY OF ARMS:

On 24/02/2019 at about 0045hrs one Gbaoren Tsavnande 'm’of Mbaade village

was arrested in an ash coloured Toyota Corolla "DUCKNYASH” with registration number HK 296' KJA strategically positioned at Atirkyese Collation Centre with intent to disrupt the election process and rob members of the public of their belongings. The suspect was arrested with one (1) English made GB rifle and one locally made G3 rifle. Effort are being made to arrest other members of the gang at large.

ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS CULTIST AND RECOVERY OF ARMS:

On 25/02/2019 at about 0630hrs one Gwebe Joshua 'm’of behind Bem Hotels, Makurdi made a distress call to inform the police of an armed robbery attack. Prompt response led to the arrest of Richard Terna 'm’ and Joseph Akaa 'm’all of North-Bank, Makurdi. Suspects were arrested with one (1) locally made revolver pistol loaded with four (4) rounds of ammunition, four different types of phones and a master key. The gang leader, one Philp is at large. The suspects confessed to be members of Black Axe and Blue Mate Confraternity, some of the phones recovered have been identified by their respective owners. One Aka Chukwu 'm’ of North-Bank Makurdi have been arrested as a receiver of stolen phones. Suspects will soon be charged to Court.

Ex Footballer, Segun Odegbami declares intention to run for OgunState governorship in 2019

Chief Segun Odegbami, a former Super Eagles footballer has declared his intention to vie for governorship in Ogun State on the platform of the Labour Party.

During the event, the legendary footballer said education and health willget more attention if he is elected as the governor of Ogun State in 2019.

Odegbami, while declaring at the party secretariat at Quarry Road in Abeokuta, promised to give people’s welfare adequate attention. He said, “our government, which would be led by the Labour Party, will provide quality education and health care delivery system by building hospitals where necessary.

Necessary facilities for proper care, including drugs and personnel, would be provided. I believe that only the people with sound health can work and even enjoy amenities provided by the government.” He noted that hospitals in Nigeria had turned to mortuary because they lackedthe necessary facilities they needed to save lives.

Odegbami cited the instanceof his mother, who he said the medical doctors had written off and he took her abroad for medical attention and she lived for another 11 years before she died.

On education, the football legend, while berating the falling standard of education in the country, said his government would provide education that would make graduates employableand as well as provide jobs for other people.

The Labour Party Chairman in Ogun State, Mr Abayomi Arabambi, while welcoming Odegbami and other party supporters, frowned on the failure of the All Progressives Congress-led government in the state to solve variouschallenges confronting the people in the state.

A doctor, who allegedly slapped, flogged, and asked a nurse to kneel down in a hospital (readhere), was yesterday arraigned at an Epe Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

Dr Emmanuel Okolo, 35, was said to have assaulted nurse Dorcas Adeyara, 23, during an argument about a patient.

Police prosecutor Moses Oyekanmi toldthe court the accused committed the offence on Wednesday, June 20, at about 2 am, at Awoyaya Hospital in Ibeju-Lekki. The police charged Okolo, who lives in Epe, with a one-count charge of assault.

Superstar footballer,Cristiano Ronaldohas reportedly paid the Spanish tax man £12.1million to end his tax dispute after having accepted a two-year suspended prison sentence this week.

According to Spanish radio stationCadena Cope, they reported this week that he has deposited the £12.1m and will also pay a further £4.7m in fines and costs. He has also accepted a two-year prison sentence which he will never have to serve because first offences for administrative crimes involving terms of two-years or less are not custodial in Spain.

The two friends of singer, Davido, and his driver, who were arrested last week in connection with the death of 35-year-old Tagbo Umeike, are still in police custody. Recall that the two friends, Agbaje Olaoye and Idris Busari, were arrested last week Wednesday, October 11th, after Davido brought them himself to see the commissioner of Police in Ikeja who then ordered their arrest. They were arrested for abandoning Tagbo at the hospital on October 2nd. Davido's driver, Tunde Usutu, who was also arrested is also still in police custody. Sources in the know say two other people have also been arrested in connection with the incident. They are all at Panto. Davido has been cleared of any complicity in the death of Tagbo. Yesterday, he announced he is going back to making music.

On Monday,Thirty journalistsand newspaper executives from a Turkishnewspaper which was shut down in 2016 went on trial facing life sentences over charges that they had links to a failed coup attempt.

The former employees of Zaman Newspaperare charged with “membership of an armed terror organisation” and “attempting to overthrow” the government, parliament and the constitutional order through their links to cleric Fethullah Gulen.

Zaman was affiliated with Gulen, a U.S.-based cleric and former ally of PresidentTayyip Erdogan who blames Gulen for instigating the failed July 2016 coup.

Zaman was first seized by the Turkish government in March 2016, months before the coup attempt, andthen closed down by a government decree. Twenty-two of the suspects have been in pre-trial detention for months, including 73-year-old columnistSahin Alpay.Turkey’s Justice Ministry announced in July that more than 50,000 people had been arrested and 169,013 have been the subject of legal proceedingssince the coup attempt. The scale of the crackdown has drawn criticism from Turkey’s Western allies and led German Chancellor Angela Merkelto call for Ankara’s EU accession talks to be called off.

Court orders interim forfeiture of $16m assets linked to Diezani Alison-Madueke

The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the interim forfeiture of assets valued at$16,441,906 linked to the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission told Justice Abdulaziz Anka that the assets are suspected to be proceeds of corruption. Among the newly forfeited assets are properties located in Abuja.

Over 300 people are feared dead after a mudslide in Regent, near Freetown, Sierra Leone.

The incident happened when a hillside in the Regent collapsedon Mondaymorning, following a night ofheavy rain, sending mud sliding down and covering houses where people were sleeping.

Emergency services are on the scene trying to reach people who are trapped beneath a collapsed hillside.

Sierra Leone’s national television broadcaster interrupted regular programming to show scenes of people digging through mud to retrieve the dead bodies of loved ones.

An official at a mortuary in Freetown, Sinneh Kamara, told the broadcaster that more than 200 bodies had been brought in and were being stored on the floor of the morgue, since the facility did not have capacity for all the corpses.

An estimated 2,000 people have beenmade homeless by the monsoon rains.The death toll is expected to rise as more bodies are recovered, Red Cross spokesman Abu Bakarr Tarawallie said."

It’s likely that hundreds are lying dead underneath the rubble,” Vice-President Victor Foh told Reuters.“The disaster is so serious that I myself feel broken,” said Foh, adding that authorities were trying to cordon off the area and evacuate people.

Osinbajo said this when he spoke at the Cabinet retreat on ERGP implementation and 2018 budget preparation process held at the state house in Abuja yesterday August 10th."

After listening to Dr. Idris Jala all I can say is as the opposition leader in Malaysia said this is what I have been saying for the past 50 years! But seriously he is so right, the challenge is this, the discipline to be unreasonable in our targets and objectives. The discipline of attending the labs diligently and accepting to be locked in a room for as long as it takes to iron out what it is that needs to be done. I like the point also that Dr Jala made that the excuse that it won't work here, the Nigerian factor, or some say exceptionalism, or the acceptance of failure before you even start is certainly not tenable any more.

We simply have to accept that there is nothing Nigerian about failure, because as we know in our personal lives, failure and success are commodities on offer to everyone all over the world and every individual and every country makes a choice of which to buy and I will say on our behalf that we will choose success.

Dr Jala I have heard motivational speeches, but this is one I think that challenges our whole legitimacy as persons entrusted with leadership. I think it goes beyond motivational speech, I think it really challenges thecore of our relevance as leaders and Iam challenged and I know that many of us here are and I think that we will do what we need to do to make sure that we see through the labs that we have to identify specific areas where we will do this labs. We must see to it that this works.

North Koreacontinues to create tension with its continuous tests of nuclear weapons and now the country has hailed as a success its latest test of anintercontinental ballistic missile(ICBM), describing it as a "stern warning" for the US.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-unsaid the test proved that the entire US was within striking range, state media reported. Confirming the latestlaunch, the North said the ICBM flew for just over 47 minutes and reached an altitude of 3,724km (2,300 miles).

Whistleblower Remanded In Prison Over False Information Against Ex-VP Namadi Sambo

A whistleblower identified as Abubakar Sani Chindo has been remanded in prison by the Kaduna State High Court for allegedly providing false information against former vice president Namadi Sambo.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) accused Chindo of providing false information that huge sums of money was stashed at the Kaduna residence of Sambo.

Officers from the Department of State Services (DSS) together with the officials of the ICPC had raided Sambo’s house three times, without finding any incriminating document on all occasions on June 28.The accused who is standing trial for a two-count charge pleaded “not guilty”.

Elijah Akaakohol, ICPC counsel, who read out the charge before the court, said Sani gave the false information on June 21, 2017.The charge reads: “That sometime in 2013 you conveyed a huge sums of money both in the Nigerian and other foreign currencies from Abuja Airportto a house in Ungwan Rimi GRA, Kaduna on the directive of a retired Army officer which money you suspected to be ill-gotten wealth and still laying in boxes in that said houseat the moment of your report.

“And of which you made the officer of the commission of the ICPC to carry out a sting operation that turned out to be false.

“You thereby committed an offence, contrary to, and punishable under section 64 (3) of the corrupt practices and other related offences act 2000.”

Sani, however, prayed the court to grant him bail, he was denied the judge.

The judge M.T Aliyu who's presiding over the case remanded him in prisonand adjourned the case the case until November 2If convicted, Chindo might be jailed for ten years or fined nearly N100, 000 as provided by section 64 (3) of the corrupt practices and other related offences act.

The All Progressives Congress(APC) chapter in Bebeji local government area of Kano state has expelled suspended House of Representatives member, Abdulmumin Jibrin who represents themat the legislative chambers. Chairman of the APC in the local government, Sani Ranka, announced his suspension today at a press briefing held at the party's secretariat in Kano.Ranka said the expulsion is as a result of Jibrin's anti-party activities that can cause division in the party.“The party will not condone indiscipline and disrespect to leaders or duly constituted authority.We hereby inform the world that Jibrin has been expelled from our great party,”. Jibrin was suspended by the House of Representatives in August last year following allegations and counterallegations of the 2016 budget padding. He is yet to react to his expulsion.
