Wintertime fun at Great Wolf Lodge

Here in Ohio, winter is just now beginning. Christmas is over and it's a L.O.N.G time before spring comes. Just like our family, I would imagine that you (and your kids) get a little bit stir crazy. You want to do something with your kids to let them get all of that pent up energy out but it's just too cold outside. Great Wolf Lodge is the perfect place to do that.

Back in October (the week prior to Halloween) my family had the wonderful pleasure of visiting the Great Wolf Lodge located in Sandusky, Ohio. My kids at the time were only 5 & 3 and I was wondering how they would do on all the water slides. We had visited a neighboring indoor water park the year prior and honestly they were terrified to do much other than the small kids wading pool and lazy river.

Upon arriving at the Lodge, we were told that because it was Halloween time they were going to be hosting a variety of awesome events for the kiddos to take part in (in addition to all the water fun). There was scheduled to be a trick or treat (no costume required), pumpkin painting, magic show and dance party!!

As if that wasn't cool enough......we arrive in our room to find out it had an adorable little "log cabin" with bunk beds for the kids to sleep in....they were beyond thrilled! And...........if that wasn't even cooler.....the sweet PR team at Great Wolf had given us a lovely personalized note, freshly baked cookies and cold milk in the fridge. They definitely know the way to kid's (and their Mommy's) hearts!

After a quick snack on those delicious cookies we were off to enjoy all the fun that awaited our family. I have to tell you that we had a BLAST! After they got warmed up and accustomed to things....both my kids went down every single slide, and floated around the lazy river no less that a dozen times each.

As evening rolled around, we went back to our room to dry off and get changed so we could attend the evening activities. They did not disappoint either! The trick or treat took us through 3-4 very well decorated rooms where the kids collected candy. Following trick or treat we did some pumpkin painting and then were off to the magic show and dance party in the main lobby. My daughter in particular LOVED the dance party!

I can not say enough great things about our experience at Great Wolf Lodge. If you and you're family are looking for something fun to do this winter (and beyond), I believe that you're guaranteed to have a blast there!

Recently my husband and I have been planning a vacation that requires us to get a Passport. We looked online and found out that our local chain drug store did passport pictures. We went to the store and told them what we needed. The guy behind the counter grabbed his digital camera (one just like you and I would own....nothing fancy), took us to the hallway beside the bathrooms and proceeded to take our picture in front of a white posterboard that had been hung on the wall. Once that was finished he went to the little computer at the desk (the ones you and I would use to order prints) and proceed to print out a sheet for each of us and charge us $15! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! Now I know you're saying, what's $15? I was irritated that he's charging us $15 for something we could do at home.

The next day my husband took his application and photo to the post office to send it off. He was told that his picture wouldn't work. The drug store clerk didn't do it correctly. We were not about to go through that again so we decided to take matters into our own hands. We got our money back from the drugstore and found this awesome little site!

ePassportPhoto.com allows you to upload your own picture. We did the same thing the clerk did and took our picture in front of a white poster board we taped to the wall in our kitchen.

You upload your picture and it gives you awesome little guidelines so you can line up the top of your head and chin to meet passport requirements.

*Very Important* When you get to Step 3 where you have the option of printing your photo, DON'T! Instead click on the tiny little link to the bottom right that says "No, Thanks." This allows you to download your photo to a jump drive instead. We then took our jump drive to that same drug store and printed one 4x5 (gives you 5 photos on one sheet) print for $.15! Now that's some savings!!

Our passport photos were perfect and we passed with flying colors.
