How To File for Texas Homestead Exemption

A state law that went into effect September 1, 2011 has changed proof of residency  requirements for homeowners applying for the property tax homestead exemption.

All new applicants must provide the following documentation to qualify for the homestead exemption:

• Application for Residential Homestead Exemption (available on most county appraisal district websites)
• Copy of Texas Driver’s License or Texas ID Card. The address MUST MATCH the homestead address intended for the exemption.
• Copy of Vehicle Registration  receipt. The address MUST MATCH the homestead address. Homeowners can get a copy of their registration receipt from the Department of Motor Vehicles. If you do not own a vehicle, you must complete the Non-Ownership of Motor Vehicle Affidavit (found on the Homestead Exemption application), have it notarized and attach a copy of a utility bill showing the homestead address.
• The Homestead Exemption will NOT be allowed unless all the required documents show the same homestead address.

REMEMBER: ALL documents must have the same homestead address.

Celebrate the break from school at RCN!

Attention Pearland kids !

Pearland Parks & Recreation is hosting a lock-in at the Recreation Center & Natatorium from Saturday, December 16 at 9pm – Sunday, December 17 at 7am!  (Doors will lock at 10pm)

Get a group of your friends and neighbors together & spend the night having fun and making the most of the beginning of your 2 week break from school!

There will be activities and events all throughout the night including:

• A “Minute to Win It” Contest
• Inflatable Obstacle Course
• Belly Bumper Matches
• Swimming
• Dodgeball Tournament
• Basketball Tournament
• Wii Games on the BIG screen

The lock-in is open to kids ages 7-11 years old, and the cost for this event is $25 per resident of Pearland, $35 per non-resident.

Anyone attending should bring a pillow, sleeping bag, and maybe a little cash for snacks and drinks.

Sleeping arrangements will be separated by gender.

Get a letter to Santa!

Everyone Loves a Parade!

Pearland Parks and Recreation is proud to present the 30th annual Hometown Christmas Parade!

This festive holiday parade will take place on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 6pm, and is FREE to attend!

The parade will begin at FM 518 & Pearland Parkway and will head west to FM 518 & Old Alvin Road.  Be sure to arrive in the area early so everyone can park and get situated before the roads close!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

This year’s theme is “The Dance of the Snowflake”, so there will be plenty of fun, lighted floats and classic cars, drill teams, and community folks ready to spread the spirit of the holidays!

There is still time to participate in the parade if you would like to enter as a business, non-profit organization, family, or individual. Trick or Treat !!

You’re Invited!

Who: ANYONE can attend this family friendly event! (Be sure to wear your costume!)

What:  Pearland Parks Department’s 9th Annual TRICK OR TREAT TRAIL

When: Monday, October 31, 2011  5:30-8:00pm

Where: Pearland High School Visitor’s Parking Lot (by the stadium) 

Why: To bring residents of Pearland together for FREE, SAFE Halloween FUN

Parking and shuttles are provided for FREE from Pearland High School North Parking Lot.      Attending the Trick or Treat Trail event is also free, but you might want to bring a little cash just in case because Pearland High School is hosting a spook-tacular haunted house for $3 per person, and there will also be vendors selling tasty snacks, drinks, and novelty items like glow products!

A costume contest is being held on the stage at 6:30pm for children ages 0-12. No pre-registration is necessary, but be sure to have your child there at 6:30pm sharp!

Bring a treat bag for your child to carry around…There will be plenty of candy and other goodies to be had!
