Pedestrian is extremely excited to be teaming up with Intel for the 2012 Ultrabook™ Pedestrian.tv Blogster Awards, a search for Australia’s best bloggers across music, fashion, food, media, technology, design and photography as well as a micro-blogging category to crown Australia’s King and Queen of Twitter and/or Voice related joke maker.

After launching the inaugural Blogsters in 2011, we’re thrilled to be resurrecting the awards bigger and better with a few new twists to prove that there’s more to the internet than just really niche porn sites and Shane Warne online poker ads. For one, this year’s awards will feature winners across six different categories as well as a best-in-show style top dog dubbed the 2012 Intel Blogger of the Year. The categories are:

• King/Queen of Twitter
• Music
• Fashion
• Food
• Media, Technology & Culture
• Art, Design & Photography

Each winner will then be paired with a industry mentor: Channel [V] for music, Vogue Australia for fashion, Time Out for food, Australian Creative for art, design and photography, Brendan Maclean in the Twitter category, and yours truly for media, technology and culture, who will also comprise a judging panel which will determine 75% of the vote, with the other 25% decided by you guys.

Throughout the coming weeks you’ll be also hearing from each nominee (20 each across every category) to give you a better idea of who they are, what they’re all about and why you should vote for them. We’ve set up some killer content tasks for them so keep an eye out. [**Please note**: A unique URL and profile was auto generated for every submission in Pedestrian's back end which, due to a technical glitch, was released to the public. The official category finalists are now live.]

In the meantime, you can vote for the blogs you do know at the Blogsters Homepage.

Winners will be announced at an awards event on Friday the 8th of June as part of the Vivid Ideas program at the Vivid Ideas Exchange. Winners from each category will receive an Ultrabook™ – Inspired by Intel with the ‘best in show’ also receiving the kudos of being our inaugural Intel Blogger of the Year.

Hand studded by Ksubi’s in house customisation team, the jacket was originally intended for the Purple One but was returned due to sizing issues. Now it could be yours for the princely sum (sorry) of $749. Best accentuated with a raspberry beret and the ability to shred the guitar.

Composition:
Cotton Twill, Leopard Print Pony Skin Leather, Cotton Poplin Lining.

The Voice contender Carmen Smith was dropped from the show after her appearance in a Guy Sebastian music video was deemed a breach of the “spirit of the show”, so it’s nice to see that Guy has thrown her a bone with an invitation to sing with him on an upcoming episode of Australia’s Got Talent.

Carmen will appear on the show this Wednesday 23 May in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth and Thursday night for viewers in Brisbane and Sydney. Piggybacking off the highly publicised Carmen furore and The Voice’s enormous audience really is a genius move by Australia’s Got Talent producers. The Channel Seven series has struggled for a decent ratings share since its first episode, particularly compared to the massive popularity of The Voice (on Ch 9) which, notwithstanding a small ratings slip during last night’s ep, has drawn over 2 million viewers per episode – crazy numbers for an Australian series.

Anyway Carmen’s getting a second shot and that’s a good thing because the woman can wail.

The ability to virtually control your computer screen with hand movements (what people now call Tony Starking but what was once known as Minority Reporting) is something that now exists for real thanks to San Francisco technology company Leap Motion. This is insane for a number of reasons. 1) When Minority Report was released ten years ago the concept of swipey virtual hand browsing seemed about as plausible as hover boards. 2) The thing costs $70.

The novelty factor alone should capture the interest of regular computer users (including us!) but since it’s far more accurate than a mouse, as reliable as a keyboard, more sensitive than a touchscreen and can send and receive data in more than two dimensions, we’re thinking it’ll come in extra handy for people like artists, graphic designers and architects.

Having said that, browsing via hand motion clearly hinders the primary function of the internet.

Watch the motion platform at work below…

The show’s fifth and final season will kick off on Sunday 15 July at 10pm in the United States (so do the maths for what time it’ll hit the torrent shop or your favourite streaming website) which, as the show’s multiple Emmy winning star Bryan Cranston previously announced, will comprise 16 episodes to be spread over two prime time television seasons.

Cutting the season in half is going to be unbearably frustrating considering how meticulously wound the intricate plot arcs of each serial episode are, but on the brights side it will give Breaking Bad fans something to look forward to in 2013. It’s Saul Goodman.

Said to be inspired by the shaky origins of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, the film centers on a troubled drifter (Joaquin Phoenix) who becomes the right hand man to PTA fave Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s “charismatic intellectual”, also known as The Master, before he comes to and realises just how momentously fucked up blind acceptance can be sometimes. Not much screen time for Seymour Hoffman here, but that’s easy to forget considering how off the rails/magnetic Phoenix is.

Damn. Can we start handing out Oscar nods for trailers yet?

The film also stars Amy Adams, Laura Dern, Rami Malek, Ambyr Childers, and Jesse Plemons and will be released October 12, 2012.

Skyfall is the 23rd movie about smooth talking martini sipping M16 agent James ‘007′ Bond starring Daniel Craig in the lead role for the third time. Directed by Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Revolutionary Road) and co-starring Javier Bardem as the villain Raoul Silva it should be pretty spectacular. As for the storyline? Mate, it’s a Bond movie. In the trailer below Craig/Bond says “Some men are coming to kill us. We’re going to kill them first.” Spoiler alert: that will happen. But let’s face it, watching Bond movies aren’t about nuanced performances, intelligent dialogue and intricate plotting, they’re about explosions, lol one liners, Daniel Craig without a shirt on and car chases. And Skyfall appears to have those vital features in spades.

It opens in Australian theatres 22 November 2012. EXPLOSION.
