In conjunction with our preparation for training our next Gen-p stylist, we are offering hair cut for RM9.88! These stylists are presently working in Peek A Boo and now are being trained to become our second batch of Gen-P stylists. We would appreciate it very much if you could introduce it to your younger friends who are on a budget to have their hair cuts.

Once graduated, their haircut prices will be at RM45 for ladies and RM35 for men. We look forward to them graduating as Gen-P stylists with your help and recommendations. The training program is from  August 14th  onwards and will end on the November 30th .

WINNER OF THE TRANSFORMATION THROUGH BEAUTY

(ORGANIZED BY PEEK-A-BOO group of salons)

For the first time in the hairdressing industry, a hair salon, Peek A Boo group of salons organized an event in conjunction with the movie; TRANSFORMERS: THE REVENGE OF THE FALLEN.

The event, “Transformation of Beauty” was created by the marketing team of Peek A Boo to challenge the hairstylists to Transform the participant’s looks thru hair cut, coloring and also perming.

A booth was set up on the 24^th, 27th and 28^th June at Cineleasure during the movie, TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN, a highly acclaimed blockbuster movie. During the 3 days drive, we successfully recruited more than 300 ladies to enter the contest! 10 were chosen to be the finalist. We were blessed to have such great and cooperative participants.

The selected participants came over to the salon at the appointed time and put their trust on the hands of our stylist. A photoshoot session was organized on 6^TH July and the result was a success. The visuals were posted online for the public to view and vote from the 10^th till the 12^th of July. The public could choose vote either thru www.cathayholdings.com.my or www.peekaboo.com.my or at both websites. However, only one vote per e mail was allowed.

The result of the winners of the “TRANSFROMATION THRU BEAUTY” contest is as follows;

The award presentation was held at La Gourmet Cantina, The Curve. With all contestants and sponsors were gorgeously dressed to attend the event with their partner. We started out on a welcome speech given by the Operation Director of Peek-a-boo, Mr. Peter Wong which was followed with a presentation of slide show of the run up to the event.

After the presentation, the announcement of winners was made with our Directors of Peek-a-boo, Mr. Joe Low and Seth Tham giving away the awards the winners.

Once You’ve Colored Your Hair, you must treat it gently if you want to maintain that gorgeous shade you (or your stylist) worked so hard to create. Fortunately, color care isn’t difficult.

Preventing color from fading

Always be aware of water temperature when you wash color-treated hair. Hot water is a no-no when it comes to color-treated hair because it causes the cuticle to swell allowing pigment molecules to escape. This leads to dull, faded color. Opt for lukewarm water.

You should also avoid strong sunlight. Think back to your childhood. Do you remember how brassy – or blonde – your hair used to get in the summer? You can blame that on the sun, which has a color-bleaching effect. The sun’s ultraviolet rays are especially hard on chemically colored locks, turning treated strands brassy and causing color to fade.

Products for color-treated hair

There are products specifically designed for chemically treated hair and using these is a good way to coddle colored strands. Color-formula shampoos are less detergent-laden and more moisturizing than normal hair shampoos, while color-formula conditioners often contain more concentrated doses of emollients and may even include ingredients such as UV screens to protect against the color-fading effects of the sun.

Like color-formula products, color-enhancing shampoos and conditioners are gentle on color-treated strands. What makes them different, however, is that they contain small amounts of pigment to keep hair color looking just-from-the-salon fresh.

Color-enhancing shampoos and conditioners are available in a large range of shades. Rotate color-enhancing products with color­formula products.

Regular deep-conditioning treatments will also help to maintain your color. If you use demi-permanent, permanent, or double­process color, expect your hair’s cuticle layer to get a bit roughed up. Consider a weekly, deep-conditioning treatment to add moisture and smooth bristly strands.

A leave-in conditioner not only blankets hair in all-day moisture, it protects locks against damage from sun, tangling, styling, and more.

Everyone wants to have the shiny, glossy hair that all the celebrities are showing off, but we all know they have their looked after by the professionals. Many of us can’t afford to go to the hairdressers every time we need to wash and have our hair styled so we cannot contend with the celebrities, instead what we can do is look after our hair. When our hair feels and looks good we feel good, hair is an important part of our appearance.

If you use hair straighteners on a regular basis even daily then you’re more than likely damaging your hair. Damaging your hair will definitely not help you get the shine you desire for your hair. Having split ends and super straight hair won’t help you get shiny hair. Shiny hair comes from love and care by you and with a little bit of help you will get the results you want.

Every person has a different texture to their hair and therefore there’s different ways in which to make your hair more healthy and shiny. There are three main different types of hair:

Fine Hair: look for a shampoo that has added wheat protein and polymers these help coat the shafts of your hair which will help it look thicker. There are spray volumizers on the market which can help make your hair look shiner and these are light so they don’t weigh your hair down.

Normal Hair: if your hair needs repairing use a shampoo that has silk amino acids in these will help repair your hair structure. To add more shine to your hair use specific creams and gels which you can rub into your palm and pat onto your hair.

Thick Hair: use a shampoo that contains pomades these will moisturise your hair as well make your hair shiny.

Other tips to make your hair shinier are as follows:

• Deep condition your hair on a weekly basis

• Try to avoid using styling products as they make your hair look dull

• Use heat-activated shampoo

• When you dry your hair, give it a blast of cool air when you’ve dried it this will seal the cuticles which help make your hair shiner

• Mix one teaspoon of honey with four cups of warm water, pour onto your hair when washed, do not wash off, dry as usual

• Don’t brush your hair when it’s wet as you can break and stretch it

• Wash your hair in cold water, if you’re not brave enough rinse it with cold water just before you get out

• Don’t use shampoo or conditioner which has Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Sodium Laureth Sulfate in

• If you have oily hair don’t rub conditioner into your scalp, and make sure you rinse your hair thoroughly

• Have the ends of your hair cut every month

• Only use your hairdryer and hair straighteners when you really need to as they cause heat damage and dry your hair out

• Use mayonnaise and work it well into your hair like you would with conditioner and put a shower cap on your head to contain it, it will make your hair more manageable and less dry.

You’ve seen the hair-do of your favorite celebrity: smooth, long hair that’s been styled to perfection flowing elegantly down her shoulders. You’ve asked yourself, “how ever did she get such a divine hairstyle?” So you bury your nose deep in those fashion magazines and click away furiously at the ‘net, trying to discover the secret to her long hair. And then you hit it: the flat iron.

Eager to try the hairstyle for yourself, you’ve bought your very own flat iron. You claw your way through the package, and have plugged in the iron with dreams of elegantly smooth hair flowing down your shoulders… just like her. You press the flat iron hair straightener’s hot plates on your hair, and voila!

Instant fried hair noodles! It looks and it smells really bad too!

Before this happens to you, know this: healthy hair is one of the most important factors of beautifully straight hear. You’ve got to take care of your hair even before you think of straightening it out.

Here are some tips from Peek-A-Boo, that can help you avoid having a bad hair day…

· Eat healthy – watch what you eat. This is the first thing you can do to make your hair healthy enough to manage while styling it flat. Hair that’s thin and brittle will break under even the slightest pressure. You don’t want to showcase that kind of hair. Some food that’s good for your hair includes salmon, green leafy vegetables and beans, to name a few.

· Check your hair-products – make sure your daily care and styling products are all compatible with the type of hair you have. Thin, dry and naturally limp hair has totally different styling needs than thick, moist and curly hair. Have you hair stylist explain to you on the variety of products that can help enhance the look that you want.

· Moisturize it – dried-out hair get damaged easily. You can start off by applying some preventive measures such as Leave In Protectant-Joico, Nectar Thermique-Kerastase or Ciment Thermique-Kerastase. Maintain the moisture in the hair with some handy leave-on conditioner after styling, and you’re good to strut your stuff one the road without any worries of your falling off after ironing it. It will also help to prevent the moisture from dehydrating off due to the sun or air-conditioning too!

· Pressure- avoid applying too much putting pressure on your hair while using the flat iron, brushing, or even while drying with a towel. This action may loosen the hair from the hair follicle, hence you may be “loosing” hair way before your time!

· Iron conservatively – once every other day is the max you can iron your hair with a flat iron hair straightener, and try not to make too many swipes with your iron over the same spots. Excessive ironing will damage your hair, and can result in the previously mentioned ‘instant fried hair noodles.”

· Get a quality flat iron – You need quality. One wrong swipe of a low quality flat iron may end up having you going to look for a hat until your hair grows back! And there you have it. From eating the right food to choosing the right flat iron hair straightener, you can get that immaculately straight hairstyle without running the risk of damaging your precious hair. Healthy, straight hair will be your crowning glory!

Thin hair works better with an overall colour but take into account maintenance – roots will need to be touched up once a month. Thick hair suits highlights or lowlights and they don’t take as much attention.

Although colour is suitable for most, short straight hair won’t really suit highlights as they can look a bit stripey. On short wavy hair, any types of lights will look striking. An all over colour suits all styles.

Go to at least two professional colourists for a consultation. Even if you’re not sure about having a colour, they can advise you on what will and won’t suit you. Consultations are free and you won’t be bullied or committed into anything your not happy with.

Like you do when you have a cut, take a long pictures of colours you like and always be honest about that colours you currently have or had on your hair explaining what worked and what did not.

Check maintenance levels, too. If it means you will have to go back once a month for a re-tint, make sure you have got the time and money to do so.

Ask what will happen if you do not like the end result and will the salon tone it down or change it and how much will it cost you.

Why not go into department stores with a friend and try on wigs and hair pieces of the colours you like and then you can decide if the colour suits you or not.

By taking a little time when deciding on your own hair colour that suits you it does not take much more effort to make your final decision. Remembering that hair colour is just as important as the style, so talk with your friends and hair stylist and consider their opinions.
