HA! I agree! I'd turn off my spam filter also!

Also, I am very impressed with BYU's video. It looks so professional!

This is great. I'm working with the director of our new first-year Critical Thinking Seminar program to get the faculty teaching those seminars to think beyond The Big Final Research Paper assignment and beyond The One-Shot Library Session model for IL instruction. I'm hoping that because this is a new kind of course in our curriculum (we've not had a first-year seminar), it will help the faculty think more creatively about what they can ask their students to do that will build information literacy skills, and also help them accept more (and better) help from us.

Well, I know the feeling, for sure. The longer a community has been around, the more history there is for newcomers to learn and negotiate, and some people are far more comfortable just jumping in than others. (I sometimes make an effort to jump in and participate, but usually I'll hang back and mostly observe.) But I also know that you've been a great addition to the community, and I'm really glad you're there.

Thanks for sharing this, Iris. As library school starts just around the corner for me, I feel like I'm already plugged into a great number of librarians who are friends and valuable resources. I do struggle, however, to feeling like I truly belong, which is more than likely my insecurity than it is, say the lack of an MLIS degree, etc. In any event, I appreciate your thoughts.

Have you thought about listing above the suggestion box -- "we know about the slow wireless problem and have a fix in the works, but it will take time and money to implement." You could even add something about when to expect the improvement. A lot of time people get even more frustrated if they feel like no one even cares to listen to their complaint. But if they know you are taking action, well, they will be much more patient.
