We have 3 powered boats on our fleet that have all the required safety equipment along with the latest and greatest fishing technology. Our smallest boat is a 15′ Aluminum named “LUCKY”. This boat is great for getting into those smaller lakes with dirt launches. “Lucky” has seating for 3 Adults and has a canopy to keep rain off or create shade on those sunny days. This boat has a walk through design with a non slip flooring. Our next boat in size is “The Mistress”. Mistress is an 18′ Stormcraft with a 1/4″ welded Aluminum hull. The boat has an Aluminum Hardtop and a walk through bow. The Mistress is perfect for larger waters and beaching for a shore lunch in the middle of No Where “paradise”. We use this boat for gaining access to tributaries on the Larger lakes in the Whistler and Pemberton area. The “Mistress” has seating for 5 persons and is well powered with a 150 HP outboard motor. A very quite and Eco friendly four stroke 9.9 HP auxiliary motor is used for Trolling. Our flagship boat “Fish Finder” is a 20′ Campion boat with a half soft top. This boat is rigged to catch fish! Coastal Cutthroat Fishing in Pemberton BC Canada. It is that time of year again, when the leaves start to form and the birds are singing. Most importantly the Coastal Cutthroat run has finally made a huge delivery in the streams surrounding Pemberton, BC Canada. Being a salesman/owner at Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, in Pemberton. I get to hear about the progress of the Cutthroat from my clients. First, they are catching them along the shorelines of the Lower Lillooet River. Followed by the shorelines of Lillooet lake. Now the Cutthroat are in all of the Tributaries to Lillooet Lake. This means we have roughly 1 month of incredible Coastal Cutthroat fishing. As soon as the freshet strikes the Cutthroat fishing is over.

When Fly fishing for Cutthroat Trout in Pemberton, BC Canada. Use either a sink tip or full sinking line with a type 3-4 sink rate. I always suggest a 6 Lb tippet because occasionally you will hook a monster Cutthroat. Cutthroat can reach a staggering 6.5 Lbs in the Pemberton area. In my opinion Coastal Cutthroat are the hardest fighting Trout pound for pound. Lets just say they don’t like being hooked. Flies I would have in fly box would include Pink intruders, Foxy Lady Streamer, Red Rib Salmon Fry and Salmon Fry Fly. Coastal Cutthroat Trout are furious feeders and are clearly a predatory fish.

When Spin fishing for Cutthroat use small spoons and spinners. My favorites are the Pink spud valley spinner and the Spud Valley 21 gram Fish Scale spoon. Both spinner and spoon will work best with a slow to moderate retrieve. Look for deeper holding waters when fishing for Cutthroat Trout. They also like to hide in structure and undercut shorelines to ambush their prey.

Lakes in Pemberton and Whistler BC are clear of Ice. April is quickly approaching, days are getting longer and warmer. This means the lakes will start to come alive. In the larger lakes we have noticed with the warmer temps that the surface is active with juvenile Kokanee. The Salmon fry will soon be leaving there spawning beds in the Streams that feed the lakes. This causes huge feeding frenzies. Once Trout get a taste for Salmon fry they can be fooled relatively easily with anything that resembles a minnow. *Remember you are not allowed to use minnows as bait in B.C.* This is not a problem because small spoons, soft baits, plugs and shads work great. My favorite is the Fraser River Rainbow, this shad is only available at Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, 1380 Birch street in Pemberton. While fly fishing use epoxy minnows, streamers and zonkers to replicate the Salmon Fry. Below are a couple pictures of Minnow patterns for fly fishing.

Lakes in Pemberton and Whistler BC are clear of Ice

The smaller lakes are steaming with life once again with the warmer temps. In the early season fly fishing can be a very productive way to fish these smaller lakes surrounding Whistler and Pemberton. The use of these fly patterns will produce fish; black or red doc spratley, blood worms, damsel nymph and dragonfly nymphs. As the temperature of the lakes continue to warm and hit the mid 40’s, try using chironomids. There are plenty of great chironimid fishing articles online now a days. Some of the notable small lakes for fishing in the Whistler and Pemberton areas are Showh Lakes, Lost Lake, Alta Lake, Ivey Lake and Blackwater Lake. Some of these lakes are not open to fishing yet this year, always check the fishing regulations before heading out. All of these lakes are absolutely full of Rainbow Trout.

Below are a few pictures of Fish caught from the larger lakes Surrounding Whistler and Pemberton, BC while on Charter with the Pemberton Fish Finder. It is not uncommon to catch Trout in and around 10 LBS. We have found the average to be 4.5 – 5 Lbs, with the largest being 12 Lbs in the few charters we have done so far this year.

“Pemberton, A Fly Fishing Paradise!”

Fly Fishing Pemberton BC Canada Upper Lillooet River. The Upper Lillooet river is only fishable through the Winter month to early Spring and then again in late fall. Once spring run off starts the Lillooet River becomes very silty with zero visibility. The Lillooet River receives one of the largest runs of Northern Coho in British Columbia during October and taps out by mid January. The Coho Salmon bring along a ton of Trout in search of Spawn. Once the Coho Salmon start to die off in January the Trout turn onto flesh Patterns. Flesh patterns work great throughout February. In March the Salmon fry start to emerge from the spawning beds. The fry quickly take cover in structure along the river banks or become victim to hungry predator Trout. By late March an incredible run of Coastal Cutthroat Trout visit the Lower sections of the Upper Lillooet River. Cutthroat quickly spread throughout the Lillooet River and Tributaries.

When Fly fishing the Upper Lillooet River Make sure you bring along a sink tip Fly Line with either a type 3 or 4 sink rate. The river is well suited for single hand fly rods and switch fly rods will allow you to work more water efficiently. Personally I like to use either a 5wt or 6wt fly rod while fishing the Upper Lillooet River in Pemberton, BC. There are large fish in this system, with my largest being roughly 8.5 Lbs. Once the Coastal Cutthroat Trout move in they can reach a staggering 6.5 Lbs. Patterns I would be focusing on for this time of year would be the Lillooet Killer, Pink Belly and the Motto Minnow. All of these patterns and more are available at Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd. 1380 Birch street in downtown Pemberton, BC. This is Whistler’s and Pemberton’s Fly Shop. They have a huge map on the counter that highlights some of the key fishing spots on the River and the boys don’t mind sharing some local secrets.

While walking the shoreline you will see lots of animal foot prints that include Moose, Wolf, Beaver, Coyote, Otter, Bear and much more. Best Freshwater fishing in Canada right here in Pemberton BC. Only 2 hours North of Vancouver, BC the small town of Pemberton is nestled in the scenic Coastal Mountains of British Columbia. Pemberton is home to all 5 Pacific Salmon Runs and over 10 Native freshwater fish species. Pacific Salmon that visit Pemberton, BC each year include; Chinook Salmon, Coho Salmon, Pink Salmon, Chum Salmon and Sockeye Salmon. The most popular Freshwater fish Species include; Rainbow Trout, Coastal Cutthroat Trout, Kokanee, Dolly Varden and Bull Trout. We also have Steelhead (sometimes referred to as “steelhead trout”) is ananadromous (sea-run) form of the coastal rainbow trout that usually returns to fresh water to spawn after living two to three years in the ocean. Adult freshwater stream rainbow trout average between 1 and 5 lb (0.5 and 2.3 kg). While lake-dwelling and anadromous forms may reach 20 lb (9.1 kg). Coloration varies widely based on subspecies, forms and habitat. Adult fish are distinguished by a broad reddish stripe along the lateral line, from gills to the tail, which is most vivid in breeding males. On average the Largest freshwater species available in Pemberton, BC is Bull Trout. Just a short drive from Pemberton the Neighboring village of Lillooet boasts the largest freshwater fish in North America. The enormous White Sturgeon is known to reach a maximum size of 816 kg (1,799 lb) and 6.1 m (20 ft). The largest sturgeon caught on record was caught on the Fraser River, in British Columbia. It weighed an estimated 1,100 pounds (498.9 kg) and measured 12 feet, 4 inches. The town of Lillooet is only 1.5 hours North of Pemberton and well worth the drive. Couldn’t be happier with our half day tour with Brad ice fishing today. Beautiful scenery, matched with a great day of fishing on the frozen lake just a short transfer from Pemberton which was included. Brad has a lot of knowledge of the surrounding areas as he is a true local with a real love of fishing. Overall, the experience is one we won’t forget and thankful for how truly accommodating, friendly both Brad and Melissa(booking process) were and we thoroughly enjoyed cooking up a small portion of our catch for dinner tonight. Anderson Lake Fishing for Bull Trout in British Columbia Canada

Anderson Lake Fishing for Bull Trout in British Columbia Canada. With the Ice fishing season coming to an end early this year we have decided to pull out the boats and get ready for the Bull Trout fishing season. Typically we start fishing the larger lakes surrounding Whistler and Pemberton, BC in late April. This year the boat launches are clear of Ice and snow early. We are proud to announce the fishing has been very good and our boats are ready for you. The 2 times we have been out so far this season We have seen 2 Bull trout over 10 Lbs at the boat. We only got pictures of 1 of these enormous Bull Trout “picture below”. The size average has been decent with most fish weighing in at the 4 – 5 Lbs range. The water temperature has been hovering around 42°c. The fishing will steadily improve throughout the year and peak late October.

When fishing Anderson Lake in early Spring use large Spoons and Plugs. While the water temperatures are cold, slow your troll. As the water temperatures start to climb into the mid 50’s then start to increase your trolling speeds. This time of year you do not need to troll deep for the larger fish. From bottom to top you will visit 3 lakes with the last lake being roughly 2.5 hrs from the parking lot. Snowshoe rentals are available at Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd in Pemberton at 1380 Birch Street. They also have tons of helpful information and maps. River Conditions for Fishing in Pemberton BC Canada. The skies have cleared and the temperature has fallen back to it’s typical range for this time of year. The Rivers have also fallen to Fishable levels in the Pemberton area. I was unable to get pictures of the Upper Lillooet River. Out of all the Rivers in Pemberton, the upper Lillooet River is going to need a couple more days. This will allow it to clear up and come down. The fish will still be there but the fishing will only get better with a couple of days. The rest of the Rivers in Pemberton are in great shape notably; The Birkenhead River, Green River and the Ryan River. Pictures are all below. All of the Rivers are clear of Ice and Snow with the exception of the Lillooet River. The Lillooet River has patches of snow still in the shady areas. There is plenty of aquatic life in and along the shores of the River, I have attached a beautiful picture of a Golden Stonefly from the Birkenhead River. So, if I was going to try fly fishing on the Rivers surrounding Pemberton, BC a Golden Stonefly would definitely be in my box of Tricks.

Fly Fishing Lillooet River in Pemberton BC Canada. The Rivers in Pemberton, BC are at good levels for this time of year. The banks have minimal snow and are clear of ice. The Lillooet river has good visibility. In this video you will see that there are tons of Bull Trout. There is also Rainbow Trout and the odd Steelhead. As the season progresses the fishing only gets better. In March, Coastal Cutthroat Trout make there way into most streams in the Pemberton area. BC Ice fishing reports and Ice conditions Blackwater Lake. With all this crazy weather we have been having this Winter the Ice has been holding up very well at Blackwater lake North of Pemberton, BC. The Ice fishing has been producing lots of Rainbow trout between 12″ – 22″ this year. We have found that the best Ice fishing has been close to the shoreline near and in the weed beds. Trout come to these areas to feed. Blackwater lake is absolutely full of freshwater shrimp, this is the reason for there rapid growth. The lake gets its name from its black appearance. This darker appearance makes for some of the most colorful Rainbow Trout in the World.

When Ice fishing Blackwater lake make sure you bring along the Zapper. The Zapper is available in 4 different colors, purple, red, silver and a rainbow pattern. Everyone has there go to color, my personal favorite is the red one. When using the zapper make sure to keep it moving with a swift jigging motion. Jig in series of 3 – 4 times, then pause for 3 seconds and repeat. Your jigging stroke should be roughly 24″ long and allow your Zapper to free fall on the way down. This causes the Zapper to flutter and walk side to side. When all else fails the Zapper doesn’t. Hello Everyone,

Due to less than ideal ice conditions and rain and warm weather in the forecast, we’ve decided to postpone Winterfest, with the exception of Dakota Pearl at the Legion on Friday, Jan 16, until next weekend (Jan 23-25) in an effort to execute the event at One Mile Lake as planned.

We would be looking to condense the event to Friday and Saturday or Saturday and Sunday, depending on the weather next weekend.

We see some cooler temperatures next week which might give us a chance to make smooth ice for skating and Curling for the weekend. Fingers crossed!

FOOT TRAFFIC

We recommend accessing One Mile Lake via the trail that leaves from beside the Old Highway’s Yard / Community Garden or via the boardwalk off of Highway 99.

If you’re going to enjoy the evening festivities on Friday and Saturday night, we suggest you bring a head lamp or two for your walks to and from the lake.

POLAR BEAR PLUNGE TIPS

If you have a heart condition – just watch the event!
Children must be with and stay with an adult while in the water.
Please leave your dog at home.
Do not drink – alcohol does not warm you up – it accelerates hypothermia.
Do not stay in the water longer than 15 minutes. Body heat is lost 25 times faster in water than in the air.
Keep your clothing on until plunge time.
After your plunge, visit the Innergex tent on-site for hot chocolate.

2015 Pemberton Winterfest Kids Ice Fishing Derby. The Pemberton Fish Finder and Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd are proud to announce that we will be hosting the 2015 Pemberton Winterfest Kids Ice Fishing Derby. This will be a two day event starting on January 17th, 2015 from 10am – 3pm and January 18th, 2015 from 10am – 3pm. The derby will be held at One Mile lake in Pemberton, BC. Senior Citizens are welcome to participate. This is a free event. We encourage individuals to bring their own Ice fishing equipment, specifically Ice fishing rods and hooks. There will be Ice fishing rods and equipment available for purchase at Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, 1380 Birch Street in Downtown Pemberton, BC. The Pemberton Fish Finder will have a few ice fishing rods available for the public to borrow. Keep in mind, the last ice fishing derby we hosted drew quite a crowd “250 Kids” and not everyone was able to get an ice fishing rod. Rod availability is on a first come, first serve basis and we will not hold rods for anyone. We are excited that Redl Sports distributing, Rapala of Canada and Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd. have donated prizes in excess of $500. Pemberton Winterfest will provide the trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for the event. There will be Ice fishing huts set up with heaters so you can warm up if needed. There will be plenty of other events on the ice that include; Ice skating, Curling and a Hockey Tournament. Bring your kids out and lets enjoy a fun day on the Ice.

Ice Fishing Conditions and Report Pemberton British Columbia Canada. We now have good Ice for Ice fishing in Pemberton. The shoreline ice was damaged from the heavy rain we had last week. So be careful getting on the ice, use docks to gain access to the lakes. This should be resolved after a few days of cold weather. Always test the ice as you leave the shoreline and always fish with a buddy until you feel good about the ice thickness. As of Sunday December 14th, 2014 there was 6″s of good clear ice on Blackwater lake. We have been Ice fishing Blackwater lake with good success. There are tons of Rainbow Trout ranging from 10″ – 20″ and weighing as much as 3 Lbs. We were using the Zapper and Cyclops jigs tipped with shrimp. When Ice fishing Blackwater lake fish near structure this time of year. Structure being weed beds, logs, trees and or Drop offs. The drop off tend to start in about 15′ – 20′ of water, you will know you are on it because the weeds clear up.

Mosquito Lake prior to the rain storm had between 5″ – 6″ of good clear ice. This lake has a good dock that will help gain access to the ice. It is always a good idea to test the ice this time of year prior to leaving the dock. The Ice fishing in Mosquito lake has been great. Most of the Rainbow Trout in this lake range between 14″ – 24″ and weigh as much as 5 Lbs. This lake is best Ice fished with the Zapper tipped with a shrimp.

The water is very shallow where we are Ice fishing so you can watch the fish take your lure. The Brook Trout in this lake average between 14″ – 21″ and can weigh as much as 5 Lbs. Ice fishing this day we caught over 100 Brook trout. We found that a short fast jigging motion was getting them. Ice fishing tours in British Columbia Canada. Most of the time I would get more video but the fishing was too good to put the rod down. We had multiple double headers and a couple triple headers. Most of the fish we were catching were Bull Trout and we caught one Rainbow Trout. The Bull Trout had an average weight of 3.5 Lbs, with the odd one breaking 5 Lbs. If you join us for an Ice fishing tour on this lake you best do a few Bicep and Tricep stretches the night before fishing. Ice fishing doesn’t get any better than this.
