Whenever I look at purchasing a course, no matter what it is, the first thing that I want to determine is how qualified is the created of the course? Or in other words why should I listen to them?

The Cons:

The only con's I can think of is the size of the download. Obviously because these are videos and not just PDF that you are downloading it can take awhile, but having said that it is worth the wait.

Also they send you an email with the link to the download page in case your computer freezes or you lose the page mid download.

Secondly it is only available via online download and not available in stores. This is a bit of a shame, but once again I do understand.

Conclusions:

Overall, there is no doubt that the “Draw People Step By Step” Home Study Course is widely regarded as the best portrait drawing course available anywhere on the internet.

Having looked at it myself I would have to agree with the consensus and state that it is my favourite product.

I strongly believe that you will never get such great learning material at such a low price again.

A lot of people have trouble drawing faces. There are many different ways. Here's one way.

Steps

Find a face to draw. You can always make one up in your imagination.
Focus on the head. Is it oval-shaped? Is it more of a circle? Now that you have the picture in your head, try drawing the head.
Draw the hair. Picture it in your mind. Is it fluffy? Or is more smooth? You should draw detailed lines. If it is fluffy, you'll probably want curved lines inside the hair for detail lines. If it is smooth you'll probably want straight lines.
Think about the smile. Does the person show his or her teeth? Or just the lips? If it is a girl who just shows her lips you could do a sort of flat hump on both sides of the upper lips. But not on the bottom lips.
For the eyes, draw two circles a little bit apart. If your person is a girl, add eyelashes. If it's a boy, add more defined eyebrows.
For the nose, draw a straight line down. Add a semi-circle (half a circle) from the bottom of the straight line.
Add any details that match your person.
Draw some shades on the head if it's a girl. Put two circles or squares.
If they have freckles draw dark shaded shapes on the face. This will give a better effect. Also freckles are a sign of beauty.

Alternate Method

First you draw an oblong or oval. Then draw a line that splits it in half sideways. Then another line that splits that half in half. Draw your lines lightly as they are just guides and will be erased later.
Add Your eyes, evenly spaced, almond shape, along the top line. Nose on the second line. And mouth on the third line.
And then you can draw her/his hair, any kind of hairstyle you want.
Start adding details in the eyes, eyebrows, chin line, hair,and neck.
You can color youre drawing and just color any colors you want.

Tips

Try and find distinguishable features about the person's face. Does he have a large nose? A strangely shaped chin? Unique eyes? Try and find a trademark feature, and then exaggerate it in your drawing.
You can also draw either a very small or very large nose if you are drawing more of a cartoon drawing.

Warnings

Be careful and try to not smudge your drawing if you're putting your arm down. Don't push down hard when drawing and draw lightly so if you need to erase you can.
You can use a pen but only if you're good at it.
Don't show the person you're drawing the portrait because they might become offended if it doesn't look anything like them
If someone says your drawing isn't good don't listen just keep trying.

So you're having a hard time putting pencil-to-paper? No problem! Help is on the way! Not only will this help you with your drawing skills, but also help you with the pencil skills! So get a sketchbook, or drawing pad, and lets get to work!

Steps

Decide what you will draw. An abstract? A still-life? Think of something creative.
Get all your art supplies. Crayons, chalk pastels, color pencils, oil pastels, sharpened pencils, erasers and rubbers, etc. Make sure everything is gathered and ready to start.
Start your work! If you are drawing something simple like a vase, always make a thin line, then start the vase's shape.
Be gentle. Don't press hard on the paper with an incredibly sharp pencil. It will make it easier to rub if you are gentle. When you're done with the masterpiece, you can make it darker.
Make it look real! Do a proper sketch and over-do the lines a bit. If you are copying the picture from the internet then look at every inch of the picture. Okay, the corners are a bit edgy and the top of the vase is perfectly straight. Got all that? Okay, now draw it!
Think clearly. Nobody can draw when they are feeling unhappy or angry, etc. It will ruin their work.
Use art supplies carefully! Color inside the lines, or if you're using something with a knobby point like crayons or oil pastels, then color properly inside the shape.
Try not to make a mess. Paints should be used with a soft brush.

- Sketch the head. Draw a vertical oval with guidelines, with a smaller circle inside the oval, towards the lower part. This will become the snout of the dog.
Make the neck and the body. Draw two lines coming down from the head. Connect these lines with a semicircle, which will serve as the neck. Add a large oval at his left side, connected to the neck by an overlap with the semicircle.
Add in the legs. Each one is different, so be careful about your technique--

- Don't draw one smooth, hard line for the outline; use short, light strokes that suggest hairs (look at the illustration for reference).
Carefully erase the sketch and strengthen the lines. Don't erase lines that depict fur, unusual as they may look--your dog would look much stranger without a single tuft on it.
Color in your drawing. Use bright colors, like the golden yellow seen here. Make your Retriever's coat lightest on its stomach, darkest on its back, and remember to give its tongue a lively pink coloring!

Steps

Draw the head. Sketch in two circles, a large one and a small one. Connect the two circles with a line, like so. Put in some guidelines for the eyes, nose and mouth.
Create two ovals for the ears and smaller ovals within those for the inner ears. In front of that, draw two small triangles for the horns. (Antlers can be difficult to draw, so we’ll hold off on them for now.)
Draw an oval for the neck and connect that with a slanted, much larger oval for the body. The deer’s body should not end up as an oval, so don’t worry if your oval here isn’t flawlessly shaped. In fact, if you want to curve your oval so it looks more realistic, go ahead.

Outline the whole image and erase guidelines. Be very careful with this step, since you don't want to erase any lines that you actually need.
Color your drawing. Put in some shadows and shading, as well as the occasional spot.

Tips

Draw lightly in pencil so that you can easily rub out mistakes.
Bambi is an excellent reference point for observing the figure of a deer, particularly to see how it changes over the years as Bambi grows up. Watch the movie and pause at different points to look at deer in the midst of activity, lying down, etc. This will provide you with a better overall understanding of the way deer look, and you’ll be able to draw one more effectively next time.

If you want to use markers/watercolors to color your drawing, use paper that is relatively thick and line over your pencil more darkly before doing so.

Landscapes are nature's way of showing its true beauty. With a few simple strokes of the pencil, you can capture any landscape and take it home on a piece of paper. I drew this at a park near my town, you could get a scene like this any place with a body of water, or some trees.

Steps

Find a land scape to draw, start by simply looking at the picture and seeing what you notice first. In this picture, the tunnel and the river are first to meet the eye, so draw them lightly first, but just the outline, no details yet.
Start to add some details, like the rocks in and along the river, and the trees on the grass. To shade in the rocks, and make the river look more smooth use your finger and smooth it out, or just do the pencil work neatly so you don't have to get your fingers dirty.
Finish of your landscape color in the tunnel black,make the stones for the bridge on top, make the rocks and river a bit darker, and generally touch up where it needs it.

Perspective drawing is a drawing technique used to illustrate dimension through a flat surface. There are many forms used under perspective drawing such as, one perspective, two-point perspective, three-point perspective, bird’s eye view, worm’s eye view and others. For this tutorial, a one perspective is used to draw a scene under a checkered pathway. One perspective is also a perspective drawing that has one vanishing point were the lines drawn are parallel to each other and are at “infinity.”

Steps

Basic Perspective Drawing

Start by creating a vanishing point by drawing an “X” at the center of the paper. Then from the center through the edge of your paper draw lines, but make sure also that the lines you have drawn can be used on your drawing.
Then for the next step draw a series of poles on the right side. When you almost reached the center or the vanishing point you can substitute the poles to a series of lines.
For the left side draw a series poles and add in some perpendicular benches. Remember to draw lines again when you almost reach the center or the vanishing point.
Then for the next step draw the roof of the pathway by illustrating its checkered pattern.
Next is to sketch houses on the left side and a beach scene on the right side of the drawing.
Finally end the drawing by sketching lines that will highlight or outline the path and roof.
Ink over your drawing and you’re done. To ink over your drawing use a black pen or marker with different kinds of points so that there will be some variation of texture on your drawing.

One Point Perspective

One point perspective is usually used when the object's front is facing the viewer. In this type of drawing the horizontal and vertical lines will be horizontal and vertical respectively in the drawing, and lines getting farther from the viewer will have an angle towards what is called a "Vanishing Point." Determine the horizon in your drawing. Draw a horizontal line for the horizon with a hard pencil. The horizon lines determines how far the viewer can see based on the terrain and the distance of the viewer from the ground.
Choose the vanishing point. This is what will determine the effect of the perspective. As a reference, the most basic vanishing point would be located in the center of the paper horizontally and over the horizon line. If you set the vanishing point to the right, the drawing will look as if the point of view is moved to the left of the objects. The vanishing point for some objects can also be above or below the horizon lines depending on the inclination of the planes in respect to the ground.
Sketch the main objects.
- Take care to draw all the horizontal and vertical lines perfectly horizontal and vertical.
- The lines that start near the point of view and get farther should be drawn extending towards the selected vanishing point. This will give the perspective effect.
Give detail to your drawing respecting the proportions dictated by the reference lines you sketched before.

Two Point Perspective

Two point perspective or perspective with two vanishing points is used when the objects' corners are facing the viewer. This method is perfect for drawing isometric objects.

Determine the horizon in your drawing. Sketch a horizontal line for the horizon as in the first method.
Determine the point of view, which is the approximate location of the eye of the person viewing the drawing. This point may be located below the bottom of the paper (outside the paper.) You don't need to actually mark the point.
Determine your first vanishing point. The usual method for this is to sketch a first line from the point of view in a 60 degree angle to the left and mark your vanishing point where this line intersects the horizon.
Determine your second vanishing point. For this you will draw a second line from the point of view in a 30 degree angle to the right. Again, the vanishing point will be the intersection of this line and the horizon. The 60 and 30 degree angles can be different, but the angle between the lines that go from the eye of the observer to the vanishing points have to form a 90 degree angle.
Sketch your main objects drawing the vertical lines perfectly vertical, the horizontal lines moving to the left at an angle towards the left vanishing point and the horizontal lines moving to the right at an angle towards the right vanishing point (all the horizontal lines should converge in one or the other of the vanishing points if extended far enough).
Give detail to your drawing respecting the trends given by the horizontal lines sketched for the main objects. These lines will determine the proportion of the sizes of the objects when they are located closer or farther from the point of view.
- Make light, temporary guidelines with a ruler (shown here in green) to make sure your details are in perspective. Erase these guidelines later.

Three Point Perspective

Notice that the three point perspective includes the two point perspective or perspective with two vanishing points plus it also has a third perspective point or third vanishing point in the vertical perspective aspect as from near the ground for instance looking up at a tower -- as the viewer is facing a vertical corner (edge) of the object.
Consider that the third point can be any fourth, fifth,... view for an angular, tilted or rotated part of a drawing, but it is usually based on parallel lines in each part and relates those parts that are actually parallel to each other.
Look at the staircase example to see that different "3rd point" depends on the angle of the item being viewed. So then there can be several "other" vanishing points off at "some odd angle vanishing upward into the sky (or downward)" in a picture, for example another identical staircase could be oriented (rotated) differently as for example shown in the same drawing of a lobby of a building, etc.

Zero Point Perspective

Think about scenes such as landscapes that have no parallel lines. This kind of perspective is of irregular shapes like crooked trees, boulders, mountains, rubble, stones, gravel, and sand dunes, etc.
Draw this kind of perspective with object sizes generally getting smaller into the distance, and the drawing elements like tree limbs, becoming thinner and less detailed in the background, with textures, shading and colors showing less contrast as they are farther away so that colors fade (become lighter) and become tinted toward blue color tones in the distance.

Tips

Always start your drawings with a hard pencil. 2H pencils are recommended for this part, but you may want to use harder pencils if you want to avoid your reference lines being seen in the final drawing. Complete the drawings with a slightly softer pencil, such as HB.
A good way to practice is to visit places where you can see a structure disappearing into the horizon (railroad tracks are perfect, but be extremely careful of a train approaching from behind). Sit down and draw the structure head on; then move over 15 feet to the left (or right) and do it again. Practice drawing from various angles, always noting where the vanishing point is.
Perspective can also be applied to block letters for a more dramatic and imposing effect.

Warnings

Make sure you keep your hands very clean when drawing. Nothing is sadder than ruining a perfectly good drawing that took hours to get perfect just because your hands were not clean.
Remember to try and draw lightly first, or you will see lines in the finished drawing where you have tried to erase previous attempts.
Don't forget the fact that you can throw away a bad try at a picture. Accidents happen.
This is a three dimensional drawing without perspective. The coordinate system does not have a vanishing point. In this kind of drawing the parallel lines would not appear to converge (come closer together) when extended into the distance.

The term "gesture drawing" means somewhat different things to different people, but the defining characteristics are that the drawing is done quickly and that its purpose is to capture the essence of subject, rather than to present a realistic rendering of details. Gesture drawing is often thought of as a pedagogical tool--it is hard to imagine an art school that does not have at least one classroom packed with students trying to capture 30-second timed poses--but it also has many practical purposes. The speed and style of gesture drawing allow the artist to effectively capture motion and to sketch out the general character of something in motion, indispensable qualities if you want to draw an animal in your nature journal or if you want to make a quick sketch of a runner. More than anything, gesture drawing requires practice, but a few tips can't hurt either.

Steps

Choose a subject. In most art curricula, gesture drawing is associated with figure drawing, that is drawing the human figure, usually from model's poses. The subject of your gesture drawing, however, can be just about anything, just as long as you have something the essence of which you can try to capture. In the beginning, it's probably a good idea to sketch held poses or stationary objects, but you should also try experimenting with drawing things or people that are moving. This is termed "action drawing." The line between action drawing and gesture drawing is thin. They are both based on quick, fluid drawing, but action drawing focuses on the action of the subject, while gesture drawing tries to capture the subject's essence. Sometimes these seem to be the same thing.
Observe your subject. The single most important part of gesture drawing, perhaps of any kind of art, is observing your subject carefully. This doesn't mean just glancing at the subject, but really paying attention to nothing else. Use your eyes as lenses through which to channel the image directly onto the paper.
- Keep your eyes on your subject. You will, of course, want to glance down at your paper to get your bearings once in a while, but these should be quick glances, nothing else. Some forms of drawing require careful attention to your pencil and what you are drawing on the paper. In gesture drawing, you should keep your eyes on your subject as much as possible. Try to resist the temptation to look down at your drawing
Find the line of the subject. It may be said that every subject has a certain line that defines it's essence at any given point. That may sound a little deep, but really all you want to do when you first start drawing is observe your subject and think about what it's doing, how it looks, and what the simplest representation of it would be. Imagine that you can draw only one line to capture your subject, and then draw that line. For a human figure, for example, this line may be the axis of the model's body. It would be curved (or not) in such a way as to reflect the person's posture and motion. Sometimes you may find that two lines are more appropriate than one.
- Focus on tension. Living things will, at any given point, have one part or group of parts that are most active or that seem to hold the most energy. If you're waving, for example, your hand and arm is probably most active, while if your arms are crossed and you are still, the area where your arms are folded across your chest may seem to hold the most energy, even though you're not moving. Basically, pay attention to what distinguishes your subject from any other subject you could have drawn (or what distinguishes your subject at that time from what it would be at any other time). If you only get one thing "right" in your drawing, it should be this. If you don't have time to finish the rest of the drawing, that's fine.
Draw in contour lines. When drawing the human body, contour lines may be drawn to represent the limbs, torso, and even the head. In a way, these are just outlines, but they don't even really have to be outlines. A stick figure is a body drawn with very simple, single contour lines, and because only single lines are used, it's a two-dimensional representation. Because you are trying to capture the essence of the subject very quickly, you don't have time to draw its individual parts in any real detail. Drawing in contour lines simply shows that these parts do exist, and the lines give some idea of what those parts are doing.
Draw mass. It can be difficult for any artist to represent mass, to show the heft that a subject has. One technique that is sometimes used in gesture drawings is to represent mass by making circular motions. This is similar to using shading, except that it is very quick and inexact. You can, of course, make darker or lighter circles to show more or less mass, but generally you just want to show that there's something there. Be selective about where you indicate mass, though. All of a human body has mass, for example, but you probably wouldn't want your entire drawing to be a bunch of circles. Use this technique to show muscles, a belly, buttocks, or anyplace that has noticeably more mass than the rest of the subject. You can also use lines (similar to shading) instead of circles or in conjunction with them.
Keep your hand moving. The entire time you are drawing a gesture drawing, your hand should be in motion. The idea is that you let the image transfer directly from your eyes to your hand without thinking about it. Stop your hand, and you'll suddenly be separated from the action of drawing. You'll start thinking.
- Hold your pencil loosely and keep your motions fluid. Artists sometimes use gesture drawing as a warm-up to other kinds of drawing because it gets the muscles of your arm and hand loosened up. It does this because you try to just let yourself go. Relax and let your hand and arm move freely. You're not trying to color within the lines.
- Limit the time you spend on each portion of the drawing. Not only should you not stop drawing, but you should also not keep drawing in any one place for too long. For practice, try to limit yourself to five or six seconds on any one area. Try to capture that part of the subject as well as you can in that time, and then move on. You could jump from working on the foot to working on the hand to drawing the head. Draw wherever your eyes go, and don't worry about trying to use a logical order or making sure that everything's connected perfectly.
- Don't edit yourself. It is always a temptation to try to "fix" your work or try to think through your next move. Don't give in to this temptation. If you never stop drawing, and if you keep your eyes off your paper as much as possible, you shouldn't have a problem with this.
Set a time limit. When gesture drawing is taught in classes, a model will usually switch poses every 30 seconds to two minutes. This is good practice to push yourself to draw more quickly and, more importantly, to quickly ascertain the essence of your subject. It also has some practical applications, because if you ever try to draw a butterfly in the real world, you never know just how much time you'll have to do so before it flies away and is lost forever. Think of gesture drawing in this way. You are trying to draw a person or thing and represent its very soul in a fleeting moment. Wait a minute, wait a second, or even blink an eye, and everything may have changed.

Think of your gesture drawings as independent pieces of art. Do them for their own sake. Many gesture drawings do eventually develop into another work of art, but try not to think of gesture drawing as a prelude to something else.
Gesture drawing can be practiced with a wide variety of media. Crayons, pastels, charcoal, ink, and watercolors all lend themselves well to gesture drawing.
Draw lightly. Remember, you don't want to erase anything, and yet you will constantly be making "mistakes." A long, bold line that just isn't right will be hard to ignore as you try to draw. Light lines and circles, however, can easily be drawn over, added to, or simply put out of mind. If you capture the subject sufficiently within your time limit, you can then go back and accent some areas or contours with darker lines.
When doing gesture drawing, many people hold the pencil further up then they normally would, often halfway up the pencil. This encourages more fluid, sweeping motion while still retaining control.
Just because you want to keep your hand moving at all times doesn't mean you have to keep it moving as fast as hummingbird wings. Relax, and be efficient in your movements. Speed in drawing depends only in small part on the speed of your hand.
Many artists find that finding the defining line, as described above, makes their job easier because once that one line is drawn it's easy to see where everything else falls into place. There's no rule that says you have to draw this imaginary line first, though, and many artists don't. If you've captured the essence of the subject, the line will be obvious even if it's not drawn.
There are many different styles of gesture drawings. Look at gesture drawings from an art class, in a museum, or on the web to get some idea of the tremendous versatility of gesture drawing.
Try drawing a sleeping pet or dozing child. They move in their sleep, fidget, hold a pose for less than a minute and turn all without waking up. If they move, complete it from memory or just leave the drawing incomplete and start a new one.
Gesture drawing is a great way to understand the anatomy of a particular subject, whether that's a person, an animal, an object like a moving car or machine. The more often you draw it, the better you'll understand its shape and range of motion, its anatomy. This is why mistakes in early gesture drawings don't matter - each time you do a new one, you become better at observing and getting it right in the first strokes.

Steps

Take a picture of yourself, against a plain wall that makes your features stand out, or get a drop cloth, you are going to want someone to take several pictures for you in several different facial expressions to get a nice picture of yourself.
Get a good large enough piece of paper and a drawing tool of your choice, like pencil, charcoal, or ink.
Draw outlines, lightly, of your major features, like face shape, shape of the hair, and eyes/nose. Your eyes should be 1/2way down your face.
Add shadows and using your fingers or a smearing tool to smear and the eraser to remove some, when used correctly will start to look realistic.
For the hair, you will just have to draw each 'thick line' and adding shadows, highlights, etc.
Keep adding and removing the shadows/lines, until you are finished.
Find a frame that fits it nicely, and erase the pencil smudges around your portrait to look professional and put it in a frame.
Hang if desired.

Tips

Buy a drawing/sketching school book and read it, do the exercises to practice so you understand the shadowing and contour linings.
Scan it to save a copy on a thumb drive/USB/travel drive so if the original gets destroyed or something there's a backup.

Warnings

Be careful when erasing the pencil smudging off so you don't rip the paper.

Steps

Select an image. Put it on a powerpoint slide and make a square grid on it with horizontal row markings with alphabet and vertical column markings with numbers.
Copy the outlines of the image onto your paper by making a similar grid on paper and using the powerpoint slide as a guide.
Start with the eyes, as eyes are often the defining feature of a sketch

Tips

Steps

Forward Facing Head

Start by drawing three oval shapes, one large one and 2 smaller ones on the left and right side of the large oval. Add also thin guidelines such as a vertical line and two horizontal lines to serve as a guide in drawing the eyes and mouth of the model.
Then using the first guideline draw now the eyes. In drawing the eyes draw a pointy oblong shape with four circles in it, add also some wavy eyelashes since for this picture the model used is a young woman.
Add now a pair sculpted eyebrows and some lines to illustrate her eyelid.
Then in the middle of the face and along the vertical guideline draw now her nose. In drawing the nose, remember to make the lines broken to achieve an effect.
Now draw the lips on the second horizontal guideline.
Finally draw her hair and a squiggly line on her left ear and then you’re done drawing her.
Outline your drawing with a black pen or marker and then apply an amount of shading on your drawing using a charcoal pencil or a regular pencil. And then apply a minimal amount of color by coloring her lips and eyes.

Profile Human Head

Next is draw a profile of a human head. Start this step by drawing a bald human head and by drawing the contours of the model’s nose and lips. Add also an oblong shape for the ear.
Then draw the eyes of the model, however draw only one eye and one eyebrow. Draw the eye by drawing first a triangular shape.
Now draw the nose and mouth of the model. Draw the lips of the model by copying the shape of a heart positioned horizontally.
Then draw the details of her one ear by drawing squiggly lines.
Finally end drawing her by sketching her hair in a bun.

Try to draw a bit lightly. you can always fine out the lines when you are finished and happy with your work. Making the lines too dark will make it hard to erase what you don't like. But,still don't be too worried about erasing! Worrying too much about the steps you take will ruin a picture.
Remember to shade! Light and shadow can make even the stupidest drawing look fairly realistic. It's not a cure-all, but it'll help.
Photos are helpful, but you have to see everything. Look for little details, like exactly how the bridge of the nose slants, and exactly how far apart eyes are. Drawing well comes from seeing well.

What's in a nose? Quite a bit when it comes to portraiture and figure drawing! The nose can make or break a drawing of the human face, but learning to do so properly is much easier than one might think, even for a novice doodler!

Steps

Study the human face. Pick up reference material on anatomy. You can find fantastic books geared specifically toward figure drawing from an anatomical perspective that will give you a better idea of how human beings are put together. The works of Leonardo da Vinci and Henry Gray are wonderful to study because they are both artful and anatomically accurate.
It also helps to work with a subject, be it a live human being, or a photograph. Try to really draw what you see, (which is a challenging skill to acquire in and of itself) and not simply copy the movement your hand is used to. If you are simply sketching an image from your head, though, there are still some basics that can help us all create a realistic looking nose. Remember that no two faces are exactly the same, and no face is 100% symmetrical. Human beings are comprised of organic matter, and we are all delightfully imperfect! There are many variations on the human nose, but this guide will give you a basic idea of how to create a "beginner's nose."
It's best for this exercise to work in pencil and use a light touch so that guiding lines can be erased easily. Instead of using a No. 2 pencil, you might want to use a 4 or greater to create finer lines.
- Draw the basic framework of the head before you draw any facial features. This will allow you to determine how your face will be situated. Will your person be looking up, off in the distance, or directly facing the viewer? There are many variations to consider, and they will all affect proportion and perspective.
- It's easiest to draw a profile (a person looking away, so we view the side of the face) or straight on, as if you were having a conversation with your subject. For this guide, we'll assume you're looking straight on. Draw an egg shape, with the widest part of the egg at the top, with the narrowest part on bottom, where the chin will be. Yes, facial shape will vary widely from person to person, but this is just to get an idea for proportion.
Next, draw a line directly down the middle of the egg shape from top to bottom, so the egg looks bisected.
Draw another line across the middle of your egg from left to right. Generally speaking, the eyes should be along that middle "equator" line, and the nose will start just above this line. If you prefer to draw the eyes in first, (which I do,) this can help keep your proportions in check.
Start the first line of the bridge of the nose, just above that equator. Bring it down into a "j" shape, the bottom part of the j being about halfway between the equator and chin.
Continuing that j, draw a small curve at the bottom edge that will be the hole of one of your nostrils.
Draw a small semi-circle on the other side of the curve of the j for the other nostril.
Draw two semi-circles above the others you already made to complete the top, cartilaginous part of the nostril.
- This process can be amended and modified according to your own style, but this should give you a basic nose shape without too much strain and effort. Again, it's best to start off with a light touch so you can erase and try again if your proportion looks a bit off.
- A different and more realistic technique (that can be slightly more challenging) is to begin drawing one side of the bridge of the nose from above the equator, then stop your line about halfway between the equator and the chin. Do the same on the other side of the bridge of the nose. You should now have two lines on either side of the "prime meridian" line on your face.
Draw a circle at the base of these two lines, where you stopped in between the equator and chin.
Draw two smaller circles toward the bottom of the circle you just drew for the holes of your nostrils.
Draw a semi-circle over the smaller circles you just made to create the fleshy part of the nostrils.
- This will look more natural once you've mastered it, so as with all artistic endeavors, practice makes perfect!

Tips

Work with a fine-toothed, smooth paper to keep lines strong and smooth.
If you don't normally, place the fattier part of your palm on the paper for stability when you draw, using your other hand to hold the paper in place. This should help keep your hand steady when drawing in general. Just be sure to work from left to right if you are right handed or right to left if you are left handed so you don't smudge. This will also help if you wish to go back over your lines with ink.
If you wish to work with ink, Micron pens are amazing because the ink dries incredibly fast and is waterproof, so you can add watercolor or other media later if desired.

Many people draw hands in different poses. This is one way you can do it, if you like. However, it takes gradual building of tone to draw a realistic hand.

Steps

Try to picture the hand, or lightly sketch it, before drawing it. Use a model, or even your own hand. Make sure it is facing the right way (is the thumb facing inwards or outwards? Does the viewer see the back or palm?).
Ensure your hand is the right size, especially if you are drawing a full figure. Outstretched, the whole hand SHOULD be the same size as the face.
Draw the outline of the hands. You should pick a unique hand posture to make the final result interesting.
Add tone. Gradually build up the tone.
Add crosshatching lines to give the hand texture.
At this point, you should have a fairly realistic hand; however, you still need to add minor details. Start dotting to add smaller textures.
Add the outlines of the nails now.
Add tone to the nails.
Add the cast shadows of the hand and the midtones.

Tips

Observe hands- the way they are jointed, and positioned.
You can get a model hand. They range in material, size and some are even articulated. They usually come in right hands though.

Warnings

You should use a kneaded eraser to erase tone away, which is good for making bright highlights.
Always use pencil as a medium to start out, just in case you make a mistake.
It's important that you not only use a kneaded eraser, but also a plastic one because you may have to lift larger areas of tone.

Do you enjoy drawing faces but have trouble making the eyes look realistic? Read on to learn how to draw a realistic human eye.

Steps

Get an ordinary pencil and draw the outline of the eye hole and eyelid. It doesn't have to be too detailed or shaded yet.
Change to a darker sketching pencil. I used 5B on mine, but you can use and type of pencil. You start of by drawing the out line of the iris - it's not quite a hole circle shape unless your drawing some one with a shocked face. when you're happy with that, make a start of drawing the pupil. Remember the pupil should be close to the centre of the eye, but the iris doesn't have to be at the centre of the eye. You can also draw a reflection of a window or light or something if you want to, but that is optional.
Then you shad the edge of the iris really dark and then 1/3 of the way down, blend it slightly so the edge goes a bit lighter. Then if you've done a reflection, you need to shade darkly around that. Once you've done that, shade the top a bit more lightly and carry on until the corner so it looks a bit like a slanted triangle.
Change back to an ordinary pencil if you used a different one and underneath the shaded part under the reflection, do part of the iris. Don't do it in little section, draw it lightly in quick long strokes and go over them a few times. You may not be able to tell because of the picture quality but next to that you need to draw a smaller part of iris around the inside edge of it, but use the technique of moving the pencil in different directions - don't just shade up and down or side to side, make it look neat, but messy.
Shade around the pupil like you did with the outline of the inner iris in step 2, but with an ordinary pencil. You only need to do it a little bit, quite small. After you've done that, you make the iris look like it's getting darker, by pressing a tiny bit harder and sketching in different directions. You need to make it longer than the bit you just shaded though. The image should be big enough to explain. Once you have done this, you go back to the part of the iris underneath the reflection and add a very small bit of the shading in different directions using a darker pencil.
At the top, right hand side of the iris you need to shade in darkly with a normal pencil, diagonally, so it looks like the iris is going around and not just coloured otherwise it wont look so realistic. Then you need to shade around very lightly around the rest of the iris - shading in straight lines, but going around the pupil.
Add some eyelashes. Draw really small rounded of lines along the bottom of the eye for the lashes at the bottom and longer lines at the top for the longer eyelashes. They should be the same height at the eye lid, but you can do them longer if you want. For a better look, add light shading to around the eyelid area, simple light sketches from left to right and on the left had corner of the eye.

Tips

Take your time, there's no point rushing because it'll end up looking messy.
Don't get distracted to much - e.g talking on phone because small things like that can put you off.
Practice. You will get better. Its a fairly simple thing to draw so you will be really good the more you practice.

People are arguably the most difficult subject to draw realistically. Read on to discover the rules of drawing a realistic face as well as a realistic figure.

Steps

Draw a Face

Draw an upside-down egg, then divide it into quarters with straight lines. This is the blueprint for the head; the lines will help you position the facial features correctly, so be sure to center them well.
- Don’t draw the intersecting lines in ink because you’ll want to erase them later.
Draw the eyes on the horizontal line. Be careful not to draw each eye in the exact middle of the left or right side of the face; most people’s eyes are not this widely spaced. The two eyes (excluding lids, brows, etc.) should have just enough space between them to fit a third eye.
- Start by sketching big circles to give yourself a sense of where the eye sockets are. Again, don’t draw these in ink.
- To begin the eyeball itself, center an almond shape within each circle.
- Fill in the pupils and irises, which should be partly covered by the upper lid; completely visible irises will make your subject seem frightened.
- Draw a bow-shape over each eye to suggest an upper eyelid.
- Draw a smaller, shorter bow-shape beneath each eye to suggest a lower eyelid.
- If you’re drawing a woman, add lashes. Resist the urge to draw them strongly vertical or across the entire upper eyelid; they should be gently arched, fairly horizontal, and only come out of the outer 1/2 to 2/3 of each eyelid.
- Near the top of each eye socket, add an eyebrow. Women’s brows tend to arch higher away from their eyes than men’s, which are usually lower, thicker, and flatter.
Add a nose and mouth.
- Draw the nose. An easy way to do this is to draw only the very bottom of the nose and not the sides.
  - To form the very bottom of the nose, draw a slightly downward-curving horizontal line. This should be centered both horizontally and vertically in the bottom half of the face.
  - To form the walls around the nostrils, draw a "C" shape on either side of your curved line. It may help to think of these as parentheses.
  - If you want to form the sides of the nose, do not draw lines; instead, suggest soft edges by adding a slight shadow with a blending stump.
- Draw the mouth. The top of the mouth should be closer to the nose than the bottom of the mouth is to the tip of the chin.
  - To form the line between the lips, draw a gently waving horizontal line. Experiment with a few shapes to form the expression that you want.
  - Draw a gently M-shaped line to form the upper lip. The higher above the center line, the fuller the lip will look.
  - Draw a gently U-shaped line to form the lower lip. Most people’s lower lip is slightly fuller than the upper.
  - Once you get the hang of the lips, experiment by making them smile, frown, show teeth, etc.
- You can also add wrinkles, spots, and anything else you can think of to make it look more realistic.
Erase all unwanted guide lines.

Draw a Body

Sketch the head, torso, and length of the body with lines and ovals. A proportionate body is usually the length of seven stacked heads.
- Draw an upside-down egg where you want your subject’s head to be.
- To one side of your paper, draw seven eggs, the top one aligning with your subject’s head.
- Draw a straight line coming down from the bottom of your subject’s head. Use the stacked heads to measure how far down the line should go.
- Draw a t-bar underneath the head, leaving room for the neck.
  - This line should be about 1/3 of a face-length away from the bottom of the head and will form the basis of the shoulders.
  - Be sure each half of the line is no longer than the subject’s head.
- Using the t-bar as a marker, draw an oval to indicate the chest. The chest should be about 1/3 the length of the body.
Sketch a complete body structure with lines and ovals.
- Draw lines down from the t-bar to indicate arms. Make sure that they aren't stock straight; no one has arms that don't bend a bit at the elbow, even when still.
- At the bottom of the chest-oval, draw a rectangle to indicate hips. Note that the hips will be different, depending on whether you're drawing a man or a woman.
- For the legs, draw lines down from the left and right corners of the hip box.
  - The knees will be about two stacked oval lengths down the legs.
  - The calves will be roughly the length of 1 1/2 ovals.
- Draw ovals to indicate feet.
Flesh out your person. Unless you’re drawing a nude, be sure to plan your subject’s outfit.
- Draw lines to indicate a neck. Remember that men usually have thicker necks than women.
- Add clothes. Be sure to include folds and wrinkles so that they look realistic.
  - Keep in mind when that the clothing should show body structure underneath. In other words, the wrinkles in the clothing should flow with the form of the body.
  - Clothing your subject is a great way to avoid drawing troublesome body parts. For example, if you haven’t perfected drawing hands – and who has?! -- simply put your subject’s hands in their pockets. Add scarves, boots, skirts, and other accessories as needed.
- If you decide to draw a nude, pay extra attention to defining muscle structure.
- Erase all unwanted guide lines.

Tips

The best way to improve, in all cases, is to draw from life. Find a real-live thing to draw, or at least a picture, and get to it!
If you're still having trouble with the torso, draw the outline of the rib cage before you start on the final body lines. This will help you see where the pecs and six-pack (or gut) go.
Always add little bits of shading as you draw to add depth and improve your drawing skills.
Consider joining websites such as deviantART to share your art, study others', stay motivated, and get feedback and advice on your work.
Trace over pictures of people with tracing paper for practice. When you get better, draw by copying the pictures and pay attention to how you're placing or emphasizing the details.
Use plain copy paper if you are just getting started.
A number 2 pencil is fine for most drawings.
Use vine charcoal to do loose sketches and to place the lines for faces, etc. Be forewarned that too much shading can make a face look old.
Borrow library books on pencil and charcoal drawing and study the techniques of others. Many will have lessons on shading and other subjects that can teach you a lot. Just remember that no one book, or artist, can teach you the 'perfect' way to draw. Everyone has different styles; learn from them, but use it as a springboard to creating your own style. And most important of all: practice, practice, practice!

Warnings

When drawing from life, try not to rely too heavily on movie stars and other famous faces for inspiration. Not only will that irritate more advanced artists who are critiquing your work (as it is a very common approach), but it is just as important to be able to draw an average man on the street as it is to be able to draw Brad Pitt.

Draw the head. Sketch a circle connected to a smaller one. Sketch in a guide for the facial features.
Draw two round-edged squares for the ears. Put another smaller set inside for each ear.
Sketch in the eyes, nose and mouth. The mouth should slant to the right of the face in such a way as to almost make your lion look like a bear.
Draw three ovals as guides for the body. Make a small one for the neck and two large ones for the body.
Draw a large enough oval that will overlap both the head and body. This will serve as a guide for the mane. A male lion's defining feature is its mane, as it makes it look bigger, so really emphasize that aspect!
Add in three large ovals for each leg. Draw a small circle for each foot with small ovals for the paws.
Add in two thin lines for the tail, and an oval for the hair.
Now sketch in the details, add fur if you want. Don't forget the mane!
Outline the whole image. Erase any unnecessary guidelines.
Color it in! Use mostly gold and brown hues, unless your lion is of the imaginary sort.

Tips

Draw lightly in pencil so that you can easily rub out mistakes.
If you want to use markers/watercolors to color your drawing, use paper that is relatively thick and line over your pencil more darkly before doing so.
