I lived on the river at New Farm for just over eight years and now I am back on dry land at Woollongabba, I miss the river. A lot.

So I sometimes head down the river on the citycat or the ferry.

And although as you know I love to travel. The Brisbane River always seems like home.

The best part about the whole fancy Iphone thing is of course now I have a little nifty camera in my handbag.

I snapped these photos of the city from a little ferry that was crossing the river (jazz music on the radio and all!) on a very, very hot, hazy, lazy day a few weeks ago. Phew! I was baking on that trip!

Found: A gift from some dear friends for Christmas last year

History: From someone’s beautiful pottery collection but now happily residing on our kitchen bench as a beautiful keeper of all things fruity.

Much Loved: Valentine’s Day

Pete is working tonight, so I made him this cake last night. I snuck making it into the same time I made dinner so he didn’t know until I iced it and placed it quietly on the bench.

I used a very super simple easy cake recipe which you can find here and sprinkled it with a sprinkles heart in pink. A really easy DIY in case you forgot your Valentin’s Day promise from last year to make it special this year…eeeek!

So far I have had two pieces.

I am looking forward to him coming home for a midnight Valentine’s day snack.

Dress Ups: Chantilly Lace

My favourite type of outfit to wear in summer is something soft and flowing (I know its winter up there where you are, but we are right in the middle of our warmest months down here!).

As you know, it gets just a little bit toasty here in beautiful Brisbane, so sandals and loose skirts are a must.

I wore this on a recent Sunday afternoon soiree at Pete’s Uncle and Aunty’s place to celebrate our engagement. We drank wine and talked shop about the wedding and played with their three super cute girls. So lovely!

Font Friday #5: Tattoo Ink

Ahoy me maties!

Vera is ready and waiting to fill in all the long hours at sea making pretty garlands of anchors and boats.

I love this beautiful old school sailor tattoo ink font by Ryan Splint.

I have a lovely bit of ink on my own ankle in the spirit of the sailor tattoo so I thought it would be fun to find an old fashioned ink font to play with too [don't worry, I don't have an anchor tattoo! It is a lovely swallow drawn by a talented artist from Westside Tattoo].

Doodles & Drawings: Collage {Bee Mine}

Collage can be very, very addictive.

You need to cut. And paste. And layer. And layer again.

Sometimes you add too much. Or too little.

But there always seems to be a moment when everything fits and it’s just right.

Who would have thought a bee in a top hat could be such a lovely thing.

Lost between the earth, and all that could fly.

He floated.

It was a little colder up here.

But he didn’t mind.

He knew that sometime soon, the stars and the moon, would befriend him.

And even though he might no longer be around.

There would be dreams up here to be found.

And the little birds would not surely forget him.

There is a beautiful play with light here too – especially in the illustration on the top right had side.
