A Mount Hope - Cove Cabin Wedding

Jaclyn and Cameron married in July 2024 at the Mount Hope Farm’s – Cove Cabin. It was a very warm and beautiful day for a wedding. I connected with them from the start, at their engagement session with their fur baby!

Turning 30

It has been over two decades since I celebrated my 30th birthday. Honestly, I cannot remember where I was or what I was doing. But here we are. So many years to look back on and what I have learned in my journeys.

I recently photographed five young ladies who all turn the big “three OH” this year. All the way from Ohio, they have been friends since college and recently visited Rhode Island. I was honored to capture their friendship and the last year of being 29.

I’m hoping two decades later they will remember what they were doing for their 30th birthday and look back at their photos.

A Mystic Wedding

If you have ever been to Mystic, CT, you know that it is a quaint little town with a warm welcome feel. The Haley Mansion offers that same welcoming feel.

Shannon and Brendan's love story

They met the old fashioned way – a dating app! Channon had recently moved to Connecticut for nursing school, and she had a rotation at the hospital in Brendan’s city, about 30 minutes away from where she lived. During a dinner break, she and her friends were swiping through Bumble and swiped right on the very handsome Brendan. A few weeks later, in January 2019, they decided to meet for drinks in the town halfway between where they both lived – which is where they live now! They shared a plate of fries (Channon’s favorite) and some laughs, and quickly decided to meet again the next week.

After a few dates, the real test came. Brendan had to meet Channon’s dog, Bonnie. Bonnie is a rescue pup from North Carolina and she and Channon found each other in 2016. Originally, Bonnie had been living with a family who had 6 children. Unfortunately, Bonnie was one family member too many and they could no longer take care of her. Fortunately, all Channon wanted was a dog to love and the rest is history.

Bonnie immediately loved Brendan. Brendan would make bacon for her when he knew she was coming to visit, and he would always make sure the blinds were open, so she could perform her neighborhood watch duties. While Brendan (still) claims she isn’t a real dog, he adores her, and got her a Giants jersey so she can watch the games with him!

In December 2020, they bought their forever home! In February 2021, a few days before Channon’s birthday, they went out for a celebratory dinner. While they were at dinner, Brendan’s family came over and decorated their house with candles, balloons, and pictures of the two of them. When Channon walked in, she thought it was a surprise party for her birthday, even though there were large balloons on the wall that said engaged and Marry Me by Train was playing. She had no idea an engagement was coming! Then Bonnie ran into the room with a t-shirt on that said “mom, will you marry our favorite human?” and Brendan got down on one knee. He said he wanted to propose at home, where they would be making memories for years to come.

Nicole & Alex’s Engagement

Alex and Nicole met during Freshman orientation at Carnegie Mellon University and started dating shortly after. They were lucky enough to move from Pittsburgh together to Boston for graduate school and eventually to continue their careers. Two years ago, they welcomed a furry friend, a rescue from Tennessee named Moose. After more than 8 years together, Alex surprised Nicole with a trip to where it all began for a friends reunion. On that trip, Alex took Nicole to their favorite study place in the city, Phipps Arboretum, where Alex proposed in the flower garden.

They wanted a flower garden for their engagement session and I immediately thought of The Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum.

Getting to know each other

I offer an engagement session with most of my wedding collections. Whether it be a mini session or a full one hour shoot, this is a great time to get to know each other before the big day.

Picking a Location

Choose a location that best describes you as a couple. Do you have a favorite cafe you go to? Do you always return to that place on the beach where you kissed for the first time? I recommend taking your engagement photos at a place you always want to remember.

The best photos are from shoots where the couples are actively involved in scouting the locations. I can take pictures ANYWHERE – so choose where you want to be photographed and we’ll make it happen!

You’ll never go wrong by picking your favorite park or beach!

What to Wear

The most important thing about what you wear is to pick something you will look and feel comfortable in. This shoot should be FUN – and fidgeting with clothes you’ve never worn before (or will never wear again!) will take away the enjoyment of your special session.

I always recommend that couples choose an elevated version of their normal look. For many of my couples, these are the first formal photos they will have taken together. Pull out the Sunday Best and use the opportunity to wear those pieces in your closet that you love but only pull out for really, really special days!

Avoid patterns or looks that take the focus away from you in the photos. You and partner should be the focal point of these photos.

I can normally accommodate one outfit change during your shoot. If you want more versatility, pack some accessories that you can change out easily for a few additional looks without pausing for a full wardrobe change.

DO: Have fun!

Enjoy yourself! Your engagement shoot should be a BLAST! Don’t forget to relax, smile, and have some fun with your photos.

It’s important that you’re comfortable during your shoot. Your photos will be exceptionally better if you have FUN!
