The evening I first met Kelleigh and her mom about Kelleigh and Adams wedding was such a beautiful evening.  We sipped on our wine and got to know each other.  I remember leaving that evening feeling like Kelleigh and I had so much in common, how could our paths have not crossed before.  I left that meeting hoping that I would get to photograph her Tahoe wedding.  I felt like she was a long lost sister or something.  And, sure enough, I did get to photograph her georgeous wedding!  It was one of the most beautiful evenings, even with the unexpected summer Tahoe rain.  The lake was beautiful that day, and into the evening everything was so great.  The love between everyone that was there was felt, warming the evening and making the rain seem like it was all in the plans.  It was an amazing night.

Fast forward to a few months back and imagine my delight to get the email … “Penny we would like you to photograph our baby boy!”  I squeeled with joy.  In fact I’m sure my studio neighbors must hear lots of “awesome” , “oh my goodness”, “I’m so stinking excited”, “hot dog” and “oh I can’t wait” from the walls that separate our suites often … they must think I’m crazy!!  But, honestly I get so excited to be able to capture such precious moments.

So, the day came I got to meet Wyatt, and let me tell you he is sweet as pie!  He is so mellow, calm and observant.  His big beautiful eyes just grab you and hold your attention.  He is a LOVE!  It was so great getting to capture their love for each other … and of coarse his sweet baby feet!  I have to be honest the photo where he is eyeing moms toes … we were giggling like school girls.  So, enjoy some of my favorites below …

It’s not only an honor to photograph someones wedding, but to be part of capturing their lives as they continue their journey is something that when I became a photographer I hadn’t really thought about how meaningful that would be to me.  To be called Auntie Penny … ah man … that is the BEST!   Soooooo, I must share a few of my favorites from my sweet sweet friends session … Thank you guys so very much for including me in your lives!  I LOVE YOU!

Last weekend I had the pleasure and honor of photographing quite possibly two of my most favorite people, Erin and Dante, for their maternity shoot!  They recently moved to Saratoga, my new favorite little town!!  Seriously, between Saratoga and Los Gatos a girl could go crazy with so many great places to walk, shop, eat and snap away!  I had such a great afternoon with these two and I totally can not wait for Miss. Grace to come into the world so I can snap away at her!!  Here are some of my favorites from our session.

My friends are expecting a new baby and they needed to announce it to their family and wanted to do it a fun and unique way … sign me up!!!  So we met at the park to shoot the images and then they had plans to give the framed photo to their moms … here are some of the images  AND  even a clip of of the announcement … I’m not gonna lie … the clip made me cry happy tears!  So excited for my friends and their beautiful family.

I LOVE Mondays, I always have!  I don’t know if it’s because it’s a fresh start or just ’cause!  I suppose it may be because Monday’s are sorta like Spring to me, fresh and new and anything is possible. I wake up on Mondays with the best attitude and I love that!

The last few months I’ve really been putting my nose to the grindstone so to speak, getting things done both at the studio and at home, and it really feels awesome.  It always amazes me how much “stuff” we collect, or sit on.  I’ve always thought that I was a gal of action, a gal that doesn’t hold on to junk.  Well, I had to throw that perception of myself out the window when I started shredding the 15 years of paperwork I had!  Holy paper!   I had every utility bill, credit card bill, vet bill, you name it … I had it neatly in folders just collecting dust in the garage.  I had a shredding party like nobodies business and it felt good.  It feels amazing to be done with that dead weight!  I think I totally got younger right then and there!  I really hadn’t realized it but it was really weighting me down, not just physically by taking up precious space, but emotionally too.  I felt so unorganized even though I was totally organized with it, it was just too much, seriously did I really think that I would need the utility bill from 1999???  Geeze!  It feels great to be done with that and to have a system now that I don’t have all that paper in my life.

This organization kick started with my Grandma Ceil and my Step-Mom Mary’s passing away.  I got me thinking about my own life and how orderly I have things or don’t.  My father really was in a state of shock with my step-moms passing and when he came to visit he shared with me all the things that we don’t think about when someone passes … like how many accounts and such that we have to get in the proper name within a certain amount of time, when you are in a state of major grief and life changes.  Who thinks of this stuff when you don’t have to right? Well, it really got me thinking and moving into action.  Hence the shredding party!  I wanted to be able to have everything in one central place and easy for anyone to get to; whether it be because of a death, emergency or because we were going on a fantastic trip and someone was watching the house.

So I started a binder that has everything that we need.  I mean ‘really’ need, in one location.  It has our passports, birth certs, marriage license, social security cards, insurance papers, car pink slips … EVERYTHING!  It’s the hub of our lives!  Small and simple … it’s amazing!  I also made an copy and made a mini binder in case of extream emergency.  Now that we have that, I totally sleep soundly!  It’s A-M-A-Zing and I highly recommend that you all do it.

Since it has been pouring the last few days here is Sacramento I thought I needed a little pick me up … not to mention I only got about two hours of sleep last night, so I thought I would share some pages from Mike and Susan’s album … it brightened my day right up!   The colors were amazing there!  I have to say too that there are two things dare I say that I never do at weddings … 1) that would be dance, you will see they got me to dance AND 2) hand my client my camera … you will see that the said photo captured of me dancing was taken with the fish-eye lens and NOT in my hands … like I said the wedding was no doubt an amazing time.  Susan and Mike made me feel not only like their friend but also family … So here is to some sunshine on this rainy day!

thought I’d finish with me dancing with Susan giving me a kiss on the check … we had so much fun!!!!  Thank you Susan and Mike for letting me capture your memories and being so fabulous that when I look back at these images I feel my checks hurting from smiling and remembering not only getting talked into jumping off the top of a diving boat and yelling “I love Jamaica (yes, I’m that dorky)”  AND getting talked into going on the banana whatever it was being pulled out in the ocean where I’m sure there are sharks, okay maybe not but surly in my mind there were!!

Living dangerously with you guys was so fun!!

Ah, I love these three!!!

It’s not every day that you meet super fantastic peeps that have the best doggie in town (um keep that on the down low, if Lucy were to know I typed that I would be in some serious trouble!)!  But it’s true!  From the very first moment I met these three I knew they were fantastic.  Not to mention amazingly photogenic!  All three of them!

I always love it when a couple incorporates their pet into a photo shoot, especially when it is a super meaningful shoot like an engagement session.  Annabelle, the superstar that she is, was like “take my picture” and then she would turn to the other side so I could capture her other fantastic side!  She is the most agreeable doggie I’ve met!  We even hung a sign-necklace on her and she didn’t mind a bit!

Kellie and Evan were equally amazing!  Their love for each other was beaming!  I always find it a joy to photograph people being themselves.  It’s the best and so true and it was just that when I got to capture Kellie and Evan for their shoot.

I love these two, I mean three … and can’t wait to continue to see their lives unfold.

Holly Molly Guacamole!  I can’t believe that It’s been almost a month since my last post!  I knew that it had been awhile, but honestly I hadn’t thought that much time had past!  Yickes!

It has been a busy month for sure.  I got a huge shot of inspiration by attending the Alt Design Summit in Salt Lake City, Utah.  It was quite amazing to meet bloggers I have been following for years, not to mention Amy Butler!  THE Amy Butler!  Just chatted with her while waiting in line for a glass of wine … pretty darn cool, I’d say!  There were other super funny moments, like when a fellow blogger (whose name will remain undocumented) literally knocked me over to say hello to THE Jasmine Star while we were in the restroom!  I couldn’t stop giggling.  Jasmine was so sweet to her adoring fan … that is true grace. It was so incredible to be around so many creative and inspiring people from all sorts of industries. I came back overwhelmed and excited with a whole list of ideas swirling in my head.

I got to work on the newest issue of KidAround that will be out in just a few short days!  Such a great magazine to be a part of.  To work with people I love, and to meet and photograph inspiring people.  It brings me joy every issue!  This issue is the pet issue and it was so  fun to experience people love their pets, traditional and non-traditional pets.  We peeps love our pets that is for sure!  One of my favorite shoots was with Katie and her horse Macy … especially because I got to take my daughter Izzy to the shoot, who promptly stated when we got in the car to go home that she wanted a horse!  I quickly changed the subject!

I also took a quilting class! I’ve been trying to really be creative in all the things that I love.  Sewing is one of them. Anna Maria Horner, an amazing fabric designer spoke and gave the class!  I love her design, her inspiration and her personality for sure!  It was fun to take a Friday afternoon just to myself to be creative, to really think about color and how they relate to one another and to cut a bazillion triangles for my quilt that hopefully I will finish soon.  She is pretty amazing!

Back at the studio we’ve been working on album designs like crazy ladies!  My determination to make 2012 a fantastic year is coming to fruition.  It’s so exciting to be able to finish up projects and see and hear peoples reactions to their lovely albums and the art that we’ve created together.  I’ll be sharing some of those fantastic albums here shortly.

We’ve also created a blog creative calendar, mostly inspired from the attending the Alt Summit and wanting to be more consistent in posting because not only is it fun to share, it also gets my creative juices flowing and inspires me and the more consistent I am, it seems that the more creative I am … so my goal is that this week the calendar will be implemented beginning with this very post!
