Ricoh Imaging registered a new digital camera in China with the codename R10010. The new model is equipped with a tri-band Wi-Fi 6 module: 2.4, 5.1, and 5.8 GHz 1024-QAM, which stands for 10-bit Quadrature Amplitude Modulation, which corresponds to Wi-Fi 6. This is the same Wi-Fi module found in the Ricoh GR IV. The Ricoh GR IVx, which was announced two months ago, is the most obvious candidate:

Photographer Kimio Tanaka shared his opinion on the upcoming Pentax DSLR K-mount camera:

I’m really looking forward to the “new product,” but considering Pentax’s current situation (development resources, parts procurement, manufacturing division), it’s undoubtedly going to be an uphill battle.

For a long time, they probably haven’t done any substantial camera development or prototyping, and their relationships with parts suppliers have been cut off at one point, so it’ll be a start-from-scratch situation not just for the development engineers but for the production division as well.

The fact that PENTAX has declared it will make a single-lens reflex camera that inherits the K-mount means we can roughly imagine what kind of camera it will specifically be. They have no other choice.

In other words, it will feature simple AF/AE/SR (essential!), and become a manual-operation-priority type of camera that returns to the origins of the single-lens reflex camera…

No other manufacturer will make such a single-lens reflex camera (at this point, let alone now). That’s right—it’s a camera that only the current PENTAX can produce, one that prioritizes slightly analog manual operations.
A highly functional automated camera that could compete with mirrorless models is simply out of the question in a K-mount system that maintains its old mechanisms as they are.

Though the road ahead is fraught with difficulties, I want to wait patiently for PENTAX to leverage their tenacity, planning prowess, and love for cameras to create a delightful camera that leaves us going, “Whoa!” in surprise.

Rather than abandoning it midway or staying silent with radio silence, I’d love some progress updates, even if they’re small things, directed at the users who are looking forward to it. So, what do you think?

Ricoh Imaging Releases RICOH GR IV 30th Anniversary Edition Kit

Limited-edition special model commemorates the 30th anniversary of the popular RICOH GR Series

September 15, 2026 — Ricoh Imaging Americas Corporation is pleased to announce the release of the “RICOH GR IV 30th Anniversary Edition Kit,” a special-edition high-end compact digital camera commemorating the 30th anniversary of the GR Series. The anniversary edition kit will be available in a limited quantity of 6,000 units worldwide.

Since the release of the RICOH GR1 film camera in October 1996, the GR Series has been committed to the essential values of the GR including high image quality, quick response, and portability, in pursuit of the ultimate snapshot camera. The current products in the series have continued to demonstrate that same, unwavering commitment, and we are deeply grateful for the support they have received from both professionals and experienced amateurs alike.

Based on the RICOH GR IV (released in September 2025), this limited-edition model features a shutter release button and rear buttons with a color scheme themed after the first-generation GR1. It also comes with a special-edition ring cap with a diamond-cut finish inspired by the area around the lens of the GR1. The ring cap is specifically designed so the diamond-cut surfaces catch light beautifully when the lens is retracted, without causing unwanted reflections on the subject during shooting. The camera also features a special power-off graphic that appears when the camera is turned off. Additionally, this special-edition model comes with exclusive accessories: a genuine leather finger strap engraved with “30th ANNIVERSARY,” a metal hot shoe cover engraved with the 30th anniversary logo, and 16 different special pin badges.

Accessories included: Rechargeable battery, USB power adapter, USB cable, ring cap GN-3 (BK)

Main features of the RICOH GR IV 30th Anniversary Edition Kit

• The shutter release button and the buttons on the rear of the camera are finished in a special color inspired by the plated finish used on the first-generation GR1.
• A special power-off graphic with a GR 30th anniversary design, exclusive to this model, is displayed when the camera is turned off.
• A ring cap “GN-3 (30th)” with a diamond-cut design inspired by the design of the GR1 lens area is fitted as an exclusive accessory. The diamond-cut surfaces catch light only when the lens is retracted (with the power off), while the ring cap is specially designed so that reflections do not appear on the subject during shooting.
• A genuine leather finger strap is included as an exclusive accessory. This is a special design with “30th ANNIVERSARY” engraved on its reverse side. The finger strap takes up very little space when stored or carried.
• A special-edition metal hot shoe cover “GK-2 (30th)” in steel gray is also included as an exclusive accessory. The 30th anniversary logo is engraved on the front, and “RICOH GR” on the reverse, making this an exclusive item that enhances the appearance of the camera.
• 16 special pin badges are included; 14 representing past GR models, a kit-exclusive 30th anniversary logo, and a GR logo.

Note: All other camera specifications are the same as the standard model.

Accessories sold separately:

•  Metal hot shoe cover “GK-2 (30th)” with a GR 30th anniversary design
• Finger strap “GS-4 (30th)” with a GR 30th anniversary design
• Metal hot shoe cover “GK-1 (30th)” for the RICOH GR III/IIIx Series
• GR legacy model pin badges: Set of all 14 types
• GR legacy model pin badges: Single badges

*The GR logo and 30th anniversary logo pin badges are not sold separately.

Each of the above items will be available only while supplies last.

Ricoh officially announced that it is developing a new series of Pentax DSLR K-mount cameras based on an entirely new concept. Here is a recap of the announcement:

• Discontinuation of Current K Series: Ricoh Imaging is officially ending the production of all current K-series digital SLR cameras as the brand transitions to a “new stage.”
• A New SLR Concept: The company is currently developing a new series of digital SLR cameras based on an entirely new concept.
• Continued K-Mount Support: The upcoming cameras will continue to leverage the K-mount legacy that Pentax has built over the last half-century.
• Focus on the Experience: The new products aim to reexamine the value of photography, focusing on the enjoyment and process of taking photos rather than just treating the camera as an image-capturing tool.
• Development Timeline: The company notes that these new products will “take time” to come to fruition, but promises to provide progress updates as information becomes available.
• Appreciation of History: The statement expressed deep gratitude to K-series users and briefly highlighted milestones in Pentax’s digital SLR history, from the *ist D in 2003 to the full-frame K-1 in 2016.

The full press release is next:

PENTAX Digital SLR Cameras Aim for a New Stage

Our company sincerely appreciates your support and continued use of our K-mount digital SLR cameras. PENTAX interchangeable-lens digital SLR cameras began with the PENTAX *ist D, released in 2003, and have continued to evolve with the times through models such as the PENTAX K100D, released in 2006 with PENTAX-original sensor-shift-type shake reduction mechanism, and the PENTAX K-1, released in 2016 as our first model equipped with a full-frame sensor.

Now, as we reexamine the value of taking photographs, we are developing products that allow more people to enjoy the process of photography itself.

While it will take time for these products to come into being, we will leverage the K-mount legacy we have accumulated over more than half a century to develop a new series of digital SLR cameras based on an entirely new concept. We will provide updates on the progress of new product development at appropriate times as information becomes available.

As part of our transition to a new stage, we will discontinue production of the current K series digital SLR cameras. We would like to express our deep gratitude to everyone who has supported the K series for so long.

RICOH IMAGING will continue to pursue the shooting style unique to SLR cameras, and will endeavor to provide products that allow everyone with an interest in photography, and everyone who wants to try using a camera, to experience the distinctive enjoyment of SLR photography and discover the wonder of photography itself.

Cameras are more than just tools for capturing images; they will be a presence that enriches the very experience of taking photographs. We look forward to bringing you the next stage of PENTAX digital SLR cameras.

Update #1: the new GR IVx is already listed at B&H Photo.

Update #2 – GR SPACE Tokyo is showcasing the Ricoh GR IVx and the Ricoh GR IV 30th Anniversary Edition in a display case:

Here are the details on the new model:

Ricoh Imaging Announces RICOH GR IVx Currently Under Development

The high-end digital compact camera will be equipped with a newly developed lens that allows users to enjoy shooting with a 40mm-equivalent standard angle of view

TOKYO, August 26, 2026  RICOH IMAGING COMPANY, LTD. is pleased to announce the development of the RICOH GR IVx, the latest model in the GR Series of high-end digital compact cameras.

The RICOH GR IVx will be equipped with a newly developed GR lens to further expand the expressive capabilities of the RICOH GR IV (launched in September 2025), which fully advances the fundamental concept behind the GR Series: incorporating the essential values of a camera, including high image quality, quick response, and portability. With a 40mm-equivalent focal length in the 35mm format, the RICOH GR IVx offers an angle of view close to the effective field of human vision. This distinct perspective, which differs from the 28mm-equivalent wide-angle lens of the RICOH GR IV, creates new possibilities for snapshot photography. The company will reveal the complete set of new functions with the official announcement.

With the availability of certain parts ending, production of the current RICOH GR IIIx, IIIx HDF, and IIIx Urban Edition models is expected to conclude with the products shipped in October 2026^*.

* This schedule is for Japan. Ending dates may differ for overseas regions.

Christopher Nolan is famous for his commitment to large-format film, especially 15-perf 65mm/70mm IMAX. What is less widely known is one of the practical tools that has helped him previsualize those towering frames: a modified Pentax 6×7 medium-format still camera used as a director’s viewfinder.

Christopher Nolan’s teams have long used a modified Pentax 6×7 as a director’s viewfinder on IMAX productions, including The Odyssey. The camera was fitted with an IMAX mount so that actual IMAX lenses could be attached, giving a nearly exact match to the large 15-perf frame. The 6×7 negative size (roughly 56 × 70 mm) is remarkably close to the IMAX camera aperture, making the old medium-format SLR an effective and practical tool for framing shots.

Why a Pentax 6×7?

A director’s viewfinder lets a filmmaker (or cinematographer) quickly check framing, lens choice, and composition without hauling the full production camera. Traditional optical finders approximate various formats and focal lengths. For IMAX work, something more precise was needed.

The Pentax 6×7 (and later 67) produces a negative measuring approximately 56 × 70 mm. That is remarkably close in size and proportions to the IMAX camera aperture (roughly 52.6 × 70.4 mm). Mount an actual IMAX lens on a body that covers nearly the same image area, and the view through the finder closely matches what the giant IMAX camera will capture.

James Neihouse, ASC – a veteran IMAX cinematographer — explained the solution on The Wandering DP Podcast:

We modified a Pentax 6×7 still camera with an IMAX mount and that was our director’s viewfinder. … you could shoot a nice still image with it at the same time.

The modification is straightforward in concept: the original Pentax lens mount is replaced (or adapted) with an IMAX mount so genuine IMAX lenses can be attached. The camera retains its large, bright focusing screen and interchangeable finders (prism or waist-level/chimney). Because it is still a fully functional 120/220 film camera, the operator can also expose a still frame for reference or documentation if desired.
