So she was nicknamed Babushka Lady. Special services were trying to find her for a long time since she may have captured the president's assassination on camera. However, all attempts to establish her identity were unsuccessful.

Who was she? Why did she choose to disappear from the public eye?

We have no answers to these questions.

5. The Falling Man

This shot was taken by photographer Richard Drew on the day of the terrorist attack on September 11th. The photo of the falling man went viral and made it to many new sources worldwide in a matter of hours.

The body position of the man in the picture was considered strange by many people since he was falling almost straightened up which is extremely difficult to do. The identity of the man in the photo is still a mystery. Although, many Americans claim they recognized their relative in this picture. The picture became very popular and the Discovery Channel even filmed a documentary about it in 2007.

6. Tank Man

Every war has its unknown heroes and so does every riot.

This photo was taken in Beijing during the riots of 1989. In Tiananmen Square, an unknown young man held up the columns of Tanks for half an hour blocking the way with his body. It's still a mystery who that man was or what happened to him after. Some people believe he was executed a few days later for taking part in the protest. Some sources say he's still alive.

In fact, he may not have been the only protester standing in tanks way that day. But this very picture became the symbol of Tiananmen Square events and one of the most famous photographs of the 20th century.

7. A Cell Phone in Chaplin's Movie

We all loved some good old black-and-white movies, don't we? Especially when it comes to movies with Charlie Chaplin in them.

In 2010, a DVD with bonus frames from the filming of Charlie Chaplin's movie The Circus was released. One of the frames shows a woman holding something very similar to a modern cellphone. Director George Clark claimed he found these frames to be proof of time travel. Many skeptics are sure this shot is just a dull marketing hook.

But wouldn't it be awesome if time-travel existed?

8. An astronaut from Solway Firth

This picture might look like an average happy child in a summer field photo. If you give it a second chance, however, you will see why it made it to our selection of mysterious pictures.

In 1964, Jim Templeton took a photo of his five-year-old daughter in the countryside. Jim and his wife said they noticed something unusual in the air that day. Something like an electric charge. A few days later, when the film was developed, it was clear. There was something extraordinary about the shot. A figure of a man wearing a silver spacesuit is clearly seen in the background.

It came as a huge surprise to the family who denied the presence of that man or any other man in the field. Neither the police nor Kodak experts who were informed about the situation could solve the mystery of the picture of the spaceman who photobombs the Templeton.

9. Sir Goddard'sSsquadron

There is one strange photograph in the photo album of Sir Goddard's squadron who fought in the First World War.

If you look closely at the back row of soldiers, you'll see an extra face behind the fourth soldier on the left. It is the reason this picture became so incredibly popular and a topic of many discussions. The person with a ghostly face is Freddy Jackson who died two days before the picture was taken. Apparently, he decided to be in the group picture anyway even though it was taken exactly on the day of his funeral. You can believe this story or be skeptical about but there are people out there who do research on ghost photos and find it possible for a human spirit to be caught on camera.

10. Pyramids on the Moon

This picture was taken during the mission Apollo 17. It was the last mission NASA sent to the moon.

In December 1972, astronauts were actively taking pictures using Hasselblad cameras during the mission. Some of them were just good material for space exploration science but one turned out to be unique. It might look like an average overexposed photo and it was first listed as such in the archives.

However, if you take a second closer look, you will find something amazing about it. You will see outlines of two triangular structures looking very much like the Pyramids of Giza. What did these pyramids symbolize? Did the Egyptians travel to the moon to build them? Do aliens know a similar construction technology? Do King Tut and E.T. share the same birthday?

1. Bursts from a dwarf

Since a number of mysterious and fast radio bursts, 18 to be precise have been detected by observatories around the world. And until recently, we had no idea where they were coming from.

One such burst was picked up in 2012 by the Arecibo Observatory and on this occasion, the burst which was later given the name FRB 121102 was broadcast not just once but repeatedly for the first time we've observed. These bursts flush only briefly and release as much energy in a microsecond as our Sun does over 10,000 years. And while we don't know what's causing them, we have traced where they're coming from, a dwarf galaxy 3 billion light-years from Earth.

Scientists have speculated many possible explanations for this strange phenomenon including stars going supernova or a magnetar collapsing into a black hole. But since the discovery of their origin was only announced in early by Cornell University, we may have to wait sometime before we find out the true purpose of these peculiar bursts from outer space.

2. The fading stars

In 2015, astronomers noticed that star KIC 8462852 also known as tabby's star, had begun to dim in brightness. And ever since we've been looking for an explanation as to exactly why it's doing this.

Theories put forward have ranged from black holes and broken planets through to alien megastructures built by a super advanced civilization. But as yet, we're still scratching our heads. And though science folks observing tabby's star might soon be in danger of scratching all the hair from there now bloodied scalps as the rate at which the star's brightness is dwindling has begun to inexplicably beat up causing even more confusion.

In December 2016, we found yet another celestial body exhibiting this strange behavior a young star called RIK-210 and Little Richard here has proven equally unwilling to give up its secrets.

3. The sinking of the Titanic

Now, you may not think that the sinking of the Titanic is all that mysterious.

It slammed into an iceberg and sunk to the bottom of the ocean. But in actual fact, there are plenty of unanswered questions regarding the fate of this supposedly unsinkable ship. And new evidence suggests that another undocumented event may have been the real reason 1500 people lost their lives.

A secret fire.

The Titanic is known to have hit an iceberg while running at almost top speed and while this event in itself is rather mysterious, the time it took the ship to sink afterward is even more perplexing. After its hall was breached, the Titanic went down quicker for decades nobody could explain why as its structural design meant it should have stayed afloat much longer.

But a recent documentary called Titanic - The New Evidence claims to know the answer.

The documentaries premise lay on photographs of the Titanic taken shortly before she sailed from Belfast. The photographs' scrutinized reveals scorch marks on the ship's starboard side where the Titanic supposedly made contact with the iceberg. The documentary claims the blaze took place within one of the ships coal bunkers before launch subsequently distorting and weakening the ship's bulkhead steel, and thus causing its eventual sinking when it's fragile hull bashed into a giant ice cube.

The pre-voyage fire was allegedly covered up by the owner for fear of embarrassing them and ruining the ship's maiden voyage.

4. Celebrity Deaths

As early as April, people were asking the question why have so many celebrities died in 2016 after David Bowie, Alan Rickman, and Prince naming only a few that snuffed it in the first four months.

And as the year went on, things only got worse.

Muhammad Ali, Jeane Wilder, both Star Wars icons Carrie Fisher and Kenny Baker, George Michaels, Queen Anne of Romania. Why did this happen and how can so many famous people die in just one year? And will this trend continue? That was not sure but the most plausible explanation seemed to indicate that 2017 will deliver us, even more, a list agony.

Many of those who died were part of the baby boomer generation born 1946 between 1964 and when a huge growth and population meant that proportionally more famous people would likely be born. But this generation is now reaching an age where cancer and heart disease become more likely and this factor combined with the rock-and-roll lifestyle of the rich and famous and the increased exposure of celebrities, thanks to the internet means that 2016 can be just the start of one big death spiral for the world of showbiz.

5. Mass animal deaths

In the past few years, there has been an alarming number of mass animal deaths with whole flocks of birds just dropping out of the sky. One-third of the world's Saiga antelopes dying off and all kinds of whales squid and bats just giving up and laying down for the Reaper.

In some of these cases such as with the Saiga antelopes, we have discovered an underlying cause of their extreme drop in numbers. But many other events remain entirely unexplained with a majority of unsolved animal deaths involving creatures from the sea.

In the first two months of 2016 alone, there were reported mass fish deaths and this theme continued throughout the year on a level that made the celebrity extinction event look like small potatoes. 20,000 fish lobsters and other marine life washed ashore at Nova Scotia in December 2016 with disease, toxins, and predators all ruled out.

So what exactly is to blame for all of these killings?

Is it us, humans?

Yeah, probably.

Taking these results, some researchers suggested that the water molecules can have jumped across the moon surface until they reach the cold trap of north and south poles. A cold trap is an area which is so cold that the water vapor and other variables that come into the touch with the surface will stay stable for a long period of time, maybe up to many billion years.

The talks continue because of the difficulties of how the discovery has been concluded so far. The main proof has come for remote-sensing tools which measured the power of sunlight reflected off the moon's surface. Tools like these pick up a scary fingerprint at wavelengths near 3 micrometers, that lies beyond visible light and in the world of infrared radiation.

The recent findings of widespread and quite immobile water suggest that it may be present as OH. OH, referred as hydroxyl doesn't stay long on its own.

The researchers are still on the table-talk what the studies tell them about the origin and source of the water on the Moon. The result of the studies point toward OH/H2O might have been created by the solar wind hitting the moon's surface.

Although, the team didn't eliminate that OH/H2O could have come from the Moon itself, slowly released from deep inside minerals where it has been locked since the Moon was formed.

Some of the greatest minds ever exist have helped push modern civilization forward and achieve goals that were once thought to be impossible. In just the past 150 years, we have gone from being stuck to the Earth's soil to lending to our closest cosmic neighbor the moon.

Humanity's success is nothing sort of spectacular but on the universal scale, we may be rather insignificant. What would happen if we met an advanced alien species with technology more advanced than we could ever imagine?

In 1964, a Soviet astronomer by the name of Nikolai Kardashev introduced the hypothetical scale that can be used to measure the level of a potential civilization of technological advancement based on the amount of energy this civilization can produce. And now it is known as the Kardashev scale.

The scale has three traditional types but many extensions of modifications to the scales and proposed since its creation. The scale is logarithmic. Meaning as we go on the amount the power of the civilization has is much much more substantial. In 1964, Kardashev has defined the three base levels of civilization based on the power available to them.

Type I - The Planetary Civilization

Type I is the smallest of the original types that are also called a planetary civilization. This is no similar to our good old friendEarth. Type I civilizations are capable of storing and using all of the energy which reaches to the planet from its host star, which in our case is the Sun. This amount of energy would amount to an enormous time to the 7 trillion watts. The modern civilization here on earth so is not quite exactly fitting that the Type I civilization category.

Yes, I know. Humans can't even fit into the lowest level of the advanced civilization. Rather than fitting into a Type I civilization, we humans lined one of the extended types of civilizations, Type Zero. You see, when this scale was proposed, famous astronomer Nashville physicist Carl Sagan produced a formula to define a certain hypothetical civilization to Kardashev rating.

This is that formula.

K represents a hypothetical civilizations Kardashev rating while P represents the amount of power the civilization uses in watts.

The proposed Type 0 Civilization will control approximately 1 Megawatt or 1 million Watts of power which is miniscule compared to the amount of power we use on a daily basis. In 2015 alone, the total world energy consumption 17.35 Terawatts. Plugging this number into P and cranking out the numbers at Kardashev rating as a civilization will be approximately that to Type 0.72. Even as a civilization with 7 billion humans on our planet. 12 of which them adventure to the moon with spacecraft spent billions of miles into the abyss of interstellar space complains to colonize Mars in the near future, we still only score a measly 0.72 of the Kardashev scale.

According to Carl Sagan, humanity is going through a phase of technical adolescence, typical of a civilization about to integrate the Type I Kardashev scale. Michio Kaku, another brilliant theoretical physicist suggests that humans may attain Type I status in the next 100 to 200years. Type II status in perhaps next few thousand years and Type III status in 100,000 to 1 million years. This really goes to show the truly immense timescales it would take to advance to the next type of civilization. However, we are heading towards becoming a Type I civilization in the next couple of hundred years or so. And this is a huge step for Humanity.

As a Type I civilization, we would have complete control over our own planet. Perhaps, we could influence the weather change, the geological makeup of our own planet and much much more. However, even this amount of power is tiny compared to the next type of Civilization

Type II - Stellar Civilization

Type II civilizations also referred to as a Stellar civilization can control the total energy of its host star and transfer the energy throughout the entire solar system. One popular hypothesized device to use to harness the entire energy output of Type II civilization so star is called Dyson structures. You may have seen these before as they are rather popular in science fiction. The name was coined by Freeman Dyson and it is essentially a system of orbiting solar power satellites. Basically, it's an insanely massive hollow sphere built around a civilization so star tune you'll call of the energy from it.

Another rather exotic idea to harness energy for a Type II civilization would be to seed a stellar mass. For example, a star into a nearby black hole and collect the photons emitted by the accretion disk. Now, how a civilization could somehow deposit a star into a black hole is beyond me. What it is the means of energy nonetheless?

A Type II civilization would not only build these supermassive structures but would control and live within them. They would control every single planet in their solar system, mine the asteroids at their leisure and essentially do whatever they want inside the solar neighborhood. The amount of powered civilization would have is remarkable but is nothing when compared to a Type III civilization.

Type III - Galactic Civilization

The Type III civilization also referred to as a Galactic civilization can control the total energy of its entire host galaxy. The amount of power the civilization would have is truly frightening and its order in the realm of science fiction.

This civilization would function extremely similar to the way Type II civilization work. It would harness the power of stars, mine planets and asteroids and so on but not only for one star but for billions of stars. A civilization such as this would use planets and solar systems like legos building and de-constructing planets to build up their empire elsewhere in the galaxy. The galaxy would seemingly become their playground and everything they do and use is merely a toy.

Harnessing the energy of quasars would be like hitting the lottery for them. The supermassive black hole, the center of their galaxy could be used as an energy source for a Type III civilization. Galactic real-estate would become a reality with Planet, Stars or even complete solar systems being auctioned off by some supreme leader. Interestingly enough, this hypothetical galaxy may not even be noticeable if such a civilization did exist. All of the energy from these dollars would be felled and used for whatever the civilization may need. This means all the starlight, gas and element in an entire galaxy would become like your kitchen pantry. If all of the matter and their entire galaxy was exploded for energy, an outside observer would view the galaxy to be completely invisible. It would appear as if there was a hole in the galaxy or if they have colonized the entire galaxy, perhaps, nothing at all.

There is a place in space known as the great void. At nearly 330 million light years in diameter, the great void is one of the largest known voids in the entire universe and is commonly referred to as a Supervoid. This region of space is seemingly devoid of life in galaxies as we know it. A region of space with such a massive size as the great void contained, scientists estimate there should be at least, 2000 galaxies in stereo space. But today, their volume in 60 galaxies that have been discovered in the great void. This is a mere 3% of the amounts of galaxies that should occupy an area this large. So where are they? It to be Type III civilizations completely dominating an entire region of space milking a 330 million Lightyear wide region for resources.

What would happen if the Earth wasn't tilted

Our Earth sits on its axis at a 23.5-degree angle and it's a good thing too. This is why we have all our seasons. But what if there wasn't a tilt?

Well, first of all, the earth would definitely be a completely different place to live. The Arctic and Antarctic regions would become more pleasant places to live in. The Sun would make an appearance every day and these regions wouldn't be so cold. You wouldn't be able to go sunbathing in the summer or anything as these areas would still be the coldest on the planet but at least you'd be able to sleep at night without a sleeping mask. There wouldn't be midday Sun-like there is today.

Secondly, summer and winter would be a thing of the past. That's why all the traditions and activities connected with these seasons would disappear. Snow could still be found closer to the North and South Poles but most places on the planet would never see it again. No more snowmen, snow fights or snow days. Plants would have an absolutely different growth pattern. Since the seasons would cease to exist, the poor plants would get completely confused. This would surely influence animals especially herbivores.

What's more?

Some of them wouldn't feel the need to hibernate in the winter because there would be no winter.

If this was the case, we would have some serious problems with gravity. It would work as it should, pulling straight down but only in the center of the disk. If you were moving away from the center, it would begin to tug more horizontally and this would be totally insane. All the water would gather in the center of the world and the edges would become dry deserts. As for plants and trees, they would grow diagonally. The further from the center they are, the sharper the angle would be.

It would become absolutely impossible to play any sport with a ball. What's the point if no matter how well you threw the ball, it would boomerang and come back to the center of the disc planet.

What would happen if the earth started spinning faster

Let's start with some facts about the present time. The earth is spinning really fast and it spins faster at the equator. For example, The Equator is moving at a speed of around 1,037 miles per hour. Well, Chicago, it's taking its dear old time at 750 miles an hour. We can't feel any of this, of course, because we're spinning with the planet, kind of like when you're in the car and you don't feel yourself moving at 65 miles an hour. Same concept just on a way bigger scale.

Let's imagine that the earth starts to rotate just one mile per hour faster. Seems harmless enough, right?

Not entirely. The sea level would rise by just a few inches around the equator because if the planet spins faster around its waistline some water will migrate there from the pools. However, it would take you a couple of years to notice it. What you notice immediately would be some of the satellites going off track. They circle the planet at the speed of the Earth's rotation. So if the planet increased its pace, the satellites would lose their positions. It would lead to at least temporary disruption in TV broadcasting, mobile communication, and even military operations.

However, things could be much drier than just these minor discomforts. The faster the planet spun, the more catastrophic the situation would become. For example, you'd lose weight. Even nowadays if you travel to the equator instead of your usual 150 pounds, your weight drops to 149 pounds. Why is that? As the equator spins faster, it generates some extra centrifugal force and this force fights gravity but just a little bit though enough to boost your self-confidence after you step on the scales. And the faster the planet spins, the lighter you are. If the earth started spinning at 17,641 miles per hour, you'd become weightless and get flung right off the planet.

There would be tons of other catastrophic consequences. First of all, the equator would drown. Also, hurricanes would gain unbelievable force. Along with that, severe earthquakes would shake the planet.

What would happen if the Earth was a cube

A cubic Earth would be a very different planet from the one we live on today. First off at the center of each face, gravity would be at its strongest. That's where all the water would collect. Kind of like a Flat Earth theory. As for the edges of the planet, they would look like barren lifeless rocks. There wouldn't be any atmosphere as it would be drawn toward the Centers of the faces. So to sum it up, we live on a planet with a thick atmosphere and giant oceans in the center of the faces each with its own ecosystem.

What if the Earth had rings

Just like Saturn's ring, what if our planet had them too?

Well, they would look different depending on where you are. These rings would most likely go parallel to the equator. So near the equator, you'd see them as thin columns of light disappearing somewhere far in the sky. If you moved away from the equator, the Rings would look wider and brighter. They would also reflect sunlight at night. It would seem as if they were glowing in the sky. Sounds like an added bonus for the romantics out there. As a result, there would never be complete darkness on earth. But during the daytime, the level of light would skyrocket.

First of all, how would Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin have made their legacy? Besides that, having no moon would noticeably change our world. The tides would still exist but they would be much weaker. You wouldn't have a chance to go for a romantic walk in the moonlight. The nights would become much darker but what's the most important is that the Earth's day would be shorter. It would happen because without the moon our planet would spin faster.

What would happen if the Earth was two times bigger

If our planet was twice its current size, its gravitational force would be two times stronger. So trees would be thick and tall and plant stiff and tough. Animals would also be noticeably bigger, more massive and with thick legs to support their increased weight due to the gravity.

As for humans, it would depend on the evolutionary demands. They would either become bulky too or on the contrary, skinny and light.

1. The Grandfather Paradox

The most commonly cited paradox involving time travel describes how you could erase yourself from existence by going back and killing your own grandfather. By doing this, you would remove the possibility of your even being born. But if that's the case, then, who came back to kill your grandpa? If you don't exist, you could never have traveled back in time. So, your grandpa must therefore live and go back to have a child who in turn produces you and we're back to the paradox once more.

Strangely, this paradox is solvable using nothing more than the original premise itself. Because cause and effect govern our universe. Any action you take in the past would have an impact on the timeline of the future from the very nanosecond you arrived. You would begin to affect your destiny in ways you could not control. Move a single atom one nanometer and you could change the course of Earth's history. Therefore, the moment you arrived in the past ready to settle your beef with Grandpa. You'd be instantly erased before you'd stepped out of your time machine. Let alone pulled the trigger.

Time-travel would basically reset the clock of reality to whichever point you travel to and this would happen every single time you went back.

2. Memories

If you successfully managed to travel back through time, would you even know what you've done?

Let's say you're an average person with an average family, an average job and an average grasp on history. Right now, you can probably remember raising your kids and your first day at work. But what all of these memories be erased as soon as you arrived in the past?

These memories were created in a certain timeline. Our timeline, they did not occur in the timeline you now inhabit. So, is it even possible for these memories to travel through time with you and exists in the past? Or as your mind just had the factory reset button pushed? Alternatively, if your memories have endured a trip backward through time, then, surely you can use them to change your future. With your knowledge of the future, you can now make alterations to the way things panned out. Hate your kids? Just avoid ever meeting your partner or simply try for kids on a different day when a whole new set of sperms are competing for a shot at life. And your former children are left to die on a piece of dried-up tissue.

Solving this paradox is even weirder than the last one because if you can go backward in time and use the knowledge from the future to inform the past, then, all of human history should be one perfect utopia in the far future when mankind has a solution for every problem at nose-up. We could send this info back to the earliest days of man and prevent every war famine and fidgets spinor that ever came to be. But this creates a paradox similar to the first entry whereby if none of those grotesque things ever occurred, the conditions to enable our future utopia would never have existed either. 3. The Bootstrap Paradox

The Bootstrap paradox describes a situation where a single object or piece of information is sent back in time only to become trapped in an infinite loop of cause and effect.

Imagine, if you went back 20 years and gave Dr. Dre the idea to charge 200 bucks for 10$ headphones by putting a sticker on them. Well, eventually Dre would steal this idea. Market Beats headphones on his own and earns a few hundred million. But eventually, Dr. Dre's timeline would reach the point where you decided to travel back in time and sell Dre his own idea unless the loop is complete and it goes on forever.

Who can truly be said to have invented Beats? Was it you? Was it Dre? Was it someone else?

The idea of Beats headphones can, therefore, be said to exist within an infinite loop with their origin unable to be proven. An even more incredible version of the bootstrap paradox can be found in the Robert Heinlein short story "All You Zombies". In this tale, an intersex male who is born as a female is deceived into going back in time to impregnate herself. As a result, that person could then be said to have no mother or father and no children either. This person is now a self-replicating being which exists within its own causal loop. And the reason this paradox seemingly solves the previous one is that such loops break off from traditional timelines existing in a loop reality of their very own.

If you're still confused, imagine, the analogy of a toy racetrack being built by a child. The child decides to build a normal track which is never-ending adding a new piece every day to allow the cars to continue moving. This is your normal timeline. However, one day he sends a car back to an earlier part of the track. When he does this, he creates a new path and the car heads off in a new direction. But as soon as this happens, the track behind it disappears preventing the car from returning to the original track. The car now exists on a looped track from which it cannot escape.

So, yeah, the solution to the time travel paradox is basically a NASCAR race.

4. The Multiverse Paradox

One thing we've not yet discussed of time travel paradoxes is the existence of the multiverse. If an infinite or large number of parallel universes exist, then, how are they affected by time travel?

Well, one theory is that time travel may itself take place between multiple universes rather than traveling back through time within your own universe which could be impossible. You would actually be traveling to another universe similar to yours but at a different point in time. This would solve every paradox on the list as since you're now inside an entirely new timeline, you can kill all the grandfathers your heart desires or can you perhaps not. Because if you can time travel between universes and affect the future of another reality, surely, someone can do the same to your reality. At any moment, a time traveler from another universe could land in our timeline and wipe out everything we know today.

Theoretically, this means you could jump from one universe to another meaning that traveling back to your own universe is past would simply be a case of taking a detour through another universe on the way.

An alternative explanation which solves this paradox involves a similar solution to the bootstrap paradox except instead of creating a new loop reality, time travel merely creates another reality branched off from a point in the past. So by putting a bullet in grandpas brain, you're not affecting your own past. You're simply preventing another you from existing in the new universe your actions have just created and maybe that is what the universe wanted you to do all along.

What is the multiverse and does it even exist?

Some scientists believe that we live in a parallel universe that is closely related to our known observable universe. But this isn't just a wild idea that someone thought up. There is some science behind this idea. And while some physicists disregard the idea that a multiverse exists, there are others who believe that it is possible that we live in a parallel universe.

The idea that we live in a parallel universe isn't something that was created in a science-fiction movie as some might think. In 1954, a Princeton University grad student by the name of Hugh Everett came up with the idea that quantum effects caused the universe to constantly split. What this means is that everything you do and each action that you take creates new universes each one having a different set of circumstances and outcomes.

For example, let's say that you come to a crossroad where you can go either right or left. The present universe would give rise to two other universes where in one you decided to go left and in the other, you decided to go right. But the leading physicists of Everett's day, in particular, Niels Bohr, one of the fathers of quantum mechanics, couldn't stomach the idea that every decision we make creates new universes one for all possible outcomes. What is interesting about this is that if Everett firmly believed in a multiverse, his actions help describe the horrors of nuclear war in this universe and this reduced the fraction of the multiverse that saw global nuclear war. It's tempting to speculate that these actions were influenced by his physics work but we'll never know.

The idea that a multiverse exists at all started with the Big Bang, an unknown trigger that caused the singularity to expand and inflate in three-dimensional space. The space-time beyond that distance can be considered to be in its own separate universe. A multitude of universes could exist next to each other like a giant patchwork quilt. Space-time may stretch out to infinity and if so our universe is bound to repeat itself at some point.

The multiverse cannot be proven and it cannot be disproven either. However, if it does exist then, there could be thousands of copies of yourself, each one being different in some way or another. If the multiverse does exist, then, your actions would shape the course of not just your life but of the lives of your duplicates and other universes.

The parallel universe idea comes from the strength theory, in which there are universes just like ours that exist just out of reach of our own universe. There is the possibility of many more dimensions to our world than the three of space and one of time that we understand. In this theory, our three-dimensional universe exists in a larger super universe with nine spatial dimensions. The debate between scientists on these theories comes down to whether mathematics can be used as a tool for describing the universe or whether math itself is the fundamental reality. And our observations of the universe are just imperfect perceptions of its true mathematical nature. If the latter is true then perhaps, the particular mathematical structure that makes our universe isn't the only option, and in fact, all possible mathematical structures exist as their own separate universes.

Recently, some evidence was found in space that could possibly point towards the existence of a multiverse. There is a cold spot in space that is 1.8 billion light-years across. This part of space is cooler than the rest of the surrounding space. This supervoid was thought to be cooler because it has less matter in it compared to other comparable sections of space. But now, it's believed that galaxies in this black void are clustered around smaller voids that populate the cold spot like bubbles.

One possible explanation is that the cold spot resulted from a collision between our universe and another universe. It is thought that the energy release of such an impact would have created this cold spot. There isn't solid proof of this yet. But a new map of this part of the universe might help scientists find out if this is the footprint of another universe. If data proves this to be the case, then, the cold spot might be taken as the first evidence for the multiverse and billions of other universes may exist like our own.

Of course, if we are living in a multiverse, then, it wouldn't be so exciting as it might sound. The laws of physics would probably be different on one world and mathematics and quantum physics might not even exist on others. Just as there is an infinite number similar gets slightly different universes, there will also be an infinite number in which the basic laws of physics are different. Everything we think we know might just be applicable to our own world and what a letdown that might be.

The multiverse, while an exciting idea, has its detractors that aren't so exciting. Some scientists feel since it's not something observable or provable that it's pointless and even unscientific to bring it into the discussion. One issue is that in trying to understand our existence and how our universe was created, the ordinary and obvious solutions seemed to come up empty. However, as humans evolve and technology advances, we might end up with solid proof one day. The irony is that if there is a multiverse, scientists will have to accept that the ultimate goal of physics which is to explain why our universe is the way it is, could be through ever out of reach.

2. Are we alone in the universe?

Aside from a few exciting moments such as the SETI Wow signal and the occasional flashing light in the sky, science is yet to prove conclusively the presence of extraterrestrial life. But nor has it proven that such life definitely doesn't exist.

There are 40 billion habitable planets in our galaxy and that's only if we consider what carbon-based organisms like ourselves need to live on. 3. What is human consciousness?

If you're reading this article, you're probably conscious. But what is consciousness and what happens to it when we die?

At its most basic level, consciousness is an awareness of your physical surroundings, something many living things also possess. But what we don't know is if our human level of consciousness is truly unique or if other organisms such as animals and plants are aware of their existence too.

A human consciousness has developed far beyond knowing where food lives and where to take a whiz. But could every organism potentially develop this ability? 4. What lives at the bottom of the ocean?

It is often said that we know more about space than we do the ocean. And while this is hardly something you can accurately measure, it is true that we have a huge knowledge gap when it comes to the earth soggy bottom.

At present, 95% of the ocean remains unmapped to a high degree of resolution and it is estimated that anywhere between one and two-thirds of all marine life has yet to be identified. Of course, the easiest way to identify these creatures is to visit them but that's not easy. The deepest part of the known ocean is Challenger Deep, an area located in the Pacific in the southernmost part of the Mariana Trench. At a depth of 36,200 feet, this place has only been visited four times by humans as opposed to the six manned missions to the moon. But every time we do go, we seem to make amazing discoveries.

On a recent visit in May 2016 by the unmanned deep Discoverer, we encountered a previously unknown new jellyfish species. So what else could be lurking down there in the murky depths of the ocean?

5. How many planets are in our solar system?

Ever since Pluto was given a dishonorable discharge for being too small and puny, you might think the answer to this is simple right? 8 or 7 if you believe the conspiracy that venus is a secret fiery Death Star waiting to annihilate us all. But in actual fact, whatever number astronomers give us is just their best guess because, despite our ability to detect galaxies light-years away, we are still unable to accurately measure the number of planets in our solar backyard.

There are two major areas of uncertainty in our solar system. The first is the area between the Sun and Mercury which is far too bright to accurately analyze without going blind. Then, beyond Uranus all the way to the Oort cloud, we have the opposite problem. It is far too dark. One way of attempting to map this area involves plotting the trajectory of asteroids. And using this data, we've noticed that there is a suspiciously planet shaped gap in the asteroid belt 50 astronomical units beyond Pluto. And also there's potentially a planet four times the size of Jupiter further beyond that.

And one more thing, a theory posted by physicist Richard Mueller claims, there might even be a second Sun. So regardless of how many objects there are in our solar system, it seems the one certainty is at some point we're going to need a brand new song to remember them all.

6. How do bicycles work?

Unless you're a certifiable moron, you know that to make a bicycle go forward, you get on it and you pedal really hard. But in terms of actual physics involved in making a bicycle stay upright, scientific opinion seems to disagree with itself with every passing week.

At first, we thought a law of physics called the conservation of angular momentum was involved which is where your bicycles wobbling or leaning is canceled out by the steering axis which makes up your bike's handlebars in a way similar to how a gyroscope works. But in an edition of the science journal, engineers proved that gyroscopic effects were not needed to make a bicycle stay upright.

Another theory called the trail effect was also ruled out by the experiment. So at this moment in time, we can tell you with accuracy the genetic makeup of a human being but put that on a bicycle and make it deliver newspapers and we got nothing.

What it means to exist is something man has bantered since the beginning of a unique idea. So we are not going to solve it in a minute with a 1000 words article but what we can do is pose a bunch of questions that will freak out both stoners and sober folk alike. So let us delve deep into our very core of our being and explore the seven mysteries of existence.

1. Why does anything exist

How did the universe begin? What was there before it? Has something always existed? If not, why did everything we've come to know suddenly spring into existence?

Physicists and cosmologists believe the idea of pure nothingness is considered unstable. But according to quantum mechanics, the idea of something being created from nothing does make sense. It tells us there's no such thing as empty space. But that it is possible for certain particles, antiparticles, and bubbles of space-time to blink in and out of existence.

Theoretical physicist Andrew Linda of Stanford University thinks that this answers our question as he believes that universes have always been springing into existence and that this process will continue forever.

2. Is the universe infinite

The two most understood endless universe speculations contend that either our universe extends to endlessness toward each path or that it winds up unending by the righteousness of the presence of parallel universes. Either way, the idea of infinity is mind-boggling because this means everything you can imagine has happened, will happen, and is happening right now an infinite number of times.

There's an infinite amount of universes where you got that dream job but you also suffer from perpetual panting maggots, an infinite number of solar systems where the Sun is called Steve and the Earth is also called Steve. This goes down to a quantum level. There's an infinite number of universes where the only thing different is the placement of a single atom or the position of a single ginger hair in a takeout cheeseburger.

The possibilities of an infinite universe are astounding. They are literally too vast for human minds to comprehend and just briefly comprehending it makes no man's sky.

3. The simulation theory

As our universe appeared to be shockingly comfortable to you, is it not a little suspicious that we exist inside the correct conditions expected to harbor life?

Are we really living inside a giant simulation?

Despite this theory seeming like the realm of David Icke and the Wachowskis, many scientific minds have debated this idea at great length. Philosopher Nick Bostrom created a paper in which argues that it's unlikely humans will ever become advanced enough to create a simulated universe or that we'd create one which mirrored our exact own history unless of course, we are already in one.

He believes one of those statements has to be true and if it's the last one and we are part of a simulation, then, who is running it? Will it reboot if we become a problem? Do we have a physical state somewhere or is our consciousness also a simulation?

4. Does God exist

Atheists and religious people, you are both wrong. Let's explain why.

If you take an atheist position and you don't believe in God, why is that? What have you seen which categorically proves that God doesn't exist? The answer if you're honest is nothing. You most likely believe in a scientific approach explaining the universe which is fine but even science hasn't yet proven beyond a doubt that some form of intelligent designer definitely doesn't exist. But equally so if you're religious, you believe in the all-powerful and righteous nature of your God. However, this also means you believe they have the power to trick you and that they are justified. If they did so, how can you be sure of their morals righteousness or their very existence has given those circumstances?

In any case, what is God?

Something we don't understand with more power than us. Then to an ant, we humans must seem like gods. Our universe could be a higher power virtual construct and that means what we call a God might be some hack coder named Chad who screws with our reality every day on his lunch break. Therefore in the absence of definitive proof, it is wrong to conclude for or against the existence of a Supreme Being. With the only logical belief stating, it is impossible to prove either way.

However, as a former wrestler and occasional starship captain, Neil deGrasse Tyson so eloquently puts it "This state of logic won't exist forever because God is an ever-receding pocket of scientific ignorance that's getting smaller and smaller and smaller as time moves on".

5. Does free will exist

I choose to eat a grilled cheese because I'm hungry. I choose to play pokemon go in my underpants all day because I have nowhere to be and I like to scare children in the park. But did I make these decisions myself or were they made for me? If your decisions are influenced by a series of events which came before it even if you're aware of them, then, that is not free will.

Free will is defined as the power to act without the need to care about the necessity of the consequences of your actions. But according to some scientific studies, this notion simply does not exist. A neuroscientific investigation used fMRI scans of human brain activity to prove that our brains make decisions for us before we are even aware of the decision being made. Effectively, humans are being controlled by our needs for certain things in the world around us. Only for another part of our brain to make us feel like we actually had input on the decision. Whatever we do, wherever we go, and however we act, there is a reason for it. Maybe a dumb reason but it's a reason all the same.

6. Why does time slow as you age

Many psychological studies have shown that the older you are the faster you proceed time to be.

Why is this?

While the proportionality Theory claims that a year feels faster when you were in your 30s because it's only 1/30th of your existence as opposed to 1/5th of your life if you were five years old. Also when you're young, you live in the moment and encounter new experiences whereas when these things become familiar, you become bored and more aware of time passing.

Another theory relates time experience to memory claiming that we remember things that happened in last years as having occurred more recently than they actually did. Here are a few examples: The Malaysian Airline MH370 went missing and Russia invaded Crimea two years ago. Charlie Sheen was fired from two and a Half Men in the same year as the Fukushima disaster five years ago and both Pluto and Steve Irwin have been respectively not a planet and dead for freaking 10 years.

Intriguingly, we are more likely to remember and be nostalgic about experiences which helped form our identities between the age and this is called the reminiscence bump. The further we get away from that the quicker time appears to be. But people who reinvent themselves with a new career, a new home, country or some major face surgery later in life, experience this reminiscent bump a second time.

7. Where do we go when we die

We know that after death our physical bodies degrade and return to the earth unless you die in a really cool rocket explosion on your way to Jupiter.

But what about our minds? What happens to human consciousness?

Biocentrism theorist Robert Lanza believes the death of consciousness doesn't exist that it's merely a human illusion. He claims that because quantum mechanics shows that certain particles can exist anywhere, the human consciousness can also exist outside of our physical bodies.

According to Professor Stuart Hameroff of the University of Arizona, what we call consciousness is merely information stored at a quantum level information that is capable of merging into the current universe or moving through multiverses after your body's biological death.

British physicist Sir Roger Penrose supports the multiverse theory. The meaning of life is a question many great thinkers have pondered ever since the dawn of original thought. But while we haven't yet found the answer, humanity has come up with some pretty weird explanations for why stuff just seems to exist.

Is life just one big experiment?

Are we the sworn enemy of the universe?

Does the universe care about us and is there even a meaning to life at all?

Let's see if we can figure it out together with our look at the four most insane possibilities for the meaning of life.

1. To be observed

The idea that life has been made to be observed relates to the concept of the simulated universe. And at its heart, it claims that the purpose of life as we know it has been decided by a higher power. But it isn't God.

Some notable academics believe that the world we live in could be one giant virtual reality. If this were true, it would mean that man has been enslaved by either itself or a more advanced being. We could be mentally trapped in a non-physical prison world with no means of escape. And an even more shocking theory suggests that rather than being trapped inside a virtual world, we might be as artificial as the world around us because if consciousness can be created inside a human womb, why can't it be made artificially elsewhere.

Might our minds be completely virtual constructs existing only on some higher power super advanced hard drive? Who knows? But this hypothetical situation does give rise to a question with a pretty awkward answer.

Why create us? For what purpose?

Such a complicated creation as our existence wouldn't have lasted so long unless there was a solid practical use for it. So, is it possible that life has indeed been made to be observed, to be learned from, to provide knowledge?

Think about it. Earth is the ultimate experiment in science, culture, psychology. If you were an advanced entity and you wanted to study the development of life, a virtually constructed version of a planet filled with conscious beings of your own creation would be perfect. The meaning of our lives could be helped another civilization answer a question. We might be the physical embodiment of a late-night Google search.

If we do live inside a simulation, we and every other life form on the planet are nothing more than lab rats being studied in the pursuit of knowledge either that or for entertainment.

2. There isn't one

The problem with the last entry on simulation theory is that it doesn't give meaning to the life which supposedly created our virtual world.

Let's say, a higher being did create us. What is the point of their existence and if a higher being created them - what is the purpose of our creators' creator and so on and so forth?

It also doesn't answer the question of what life even is. Is life the same as consciousness? Is the meaning of life to exist and think?

Well, no. That doesn't make sense either. Many life-forms are thought to have varying levels of self-awareness but what value does this have to anyone or anything outside of this planet. The only reason we are able to question life at all is that we have the most advanced cognitive abilities of any life-form that we know of.

But if life were so special, would it be so easily destroyed? How can anything on earth have a grand purpose if the whole lot could be incinerated in seconds by an expanding star or killed off by a gamma-ray burst from outer space?

Perhaps, life isn't that important after all. Perhaps, life is just one component of a universe which is entirely indifferent to our presence. If true then that means your life's purpose, your goals, and your achievements are equal to that of yogurt bacteria.

3. To provide order amongst the chaos

Even if you accept that your place in the universe is insignificant, this doesn't mean that you don't matter. In fact, you may be part of a great collective force which is equal to our universe and far from being indifferent to us. There's a chance that we are the universe's sworn enemy.

To explain this theory, we must first look at the second law of thermodynamics. This law states that the total entropy of an isolated system increases over time. To oversimplify, entropy is order eventually becoming chaos. Our universe is one such isolated system, one that's over 14 billion years old. And in entropy case, the longer the universe exists the more it is inclined to fall into a state of disordered chaos.

But in order to balance that out, some people believed that life was created by the universe to provide negentropy or negative entropy. This is because living things tend to prefer a neat and tidy existence utilizing concepts like structure, function, and responsibility. So while entropy sends energy off in all different directions at random, carrying not where it is scattered.

Living things conversely harness energy. We collect it, store it, and use it. Think of the Sun's solar energy for a moment and picture how it radiates out into space with no purpose or final destination in mind. Those photons could traverse the universe and never achieve a single thing until it comes into contact with life. Because when that photon hits a living entity such as a plant or photosynthetic animal that once meaningless, small photon now has a purpose being used to create complex molecules and to recycle matter and energy. This means that humans, leopards, algae, wasps, yogurt bacteria, and indeed all life, it's actually part of a greater collective force used to balance of the universe.

We are matter's antimatter. We are the proton's neutron and the enemy of cosmic chaos. That is our purpose. That is the meaning of life, to tidy up the universe.

4. There isn't one because you will achieve everything

A more satisfying idea regarding the meaning of life is that everyone and everything has a specific purpose. And if you think about this idea biologically and statistically, it kind of rings true.

Everyone on earth can do at least one thing better than anyone else. It may be something important like leading a country or curing a certain type of disease, or it could be insignificant like being the best in the world at rolling your tongue while wearing a sombrero upside down on a roller coaster. While it would be satisfying to discover what you were good at, what makes you unique, and where you're going in life, the idea of a single purpose goes flying out of the window if we can prove the existence of the multiverse.

For how does life have a meaning if there are infinite versions of you, your neighbor, your dog, of everyone and everything. All the things that you could ever possibly achieve have been done, will be done, and are being done right now. In an infinite number of universes, you are an award-winning screenwriter with purple hair. In an infinite number of universes, you are a mass-murderer with a thing for lay elbows.

In an infinite number of universes, all you've ever done is sat at home all day and eat beans, cold from the can. In an infinite number of universes, you are your own ficus tree.

Which of these is your true purpose? Which of these lives has the meaning?

If the multiverse exists then the answer is either all of them or none. And if that's true, it means we can't look to our everyday human experiences for the meaning of life. Your job, personality, and life history would prove irrelevant. The people you love don't matter because you've loved them and others an infinite number of times. The children you've created are insignificant because you've had better and worse kids in other universes. The people you've murdered do not define your life because all across the multiverse, these same people are alive and well living out their own existence.

Cats experience REM every 25 minutes and dogs vary depending on their size. Larger dogs like Golden Retrievers might dream every 45 minutes for five minutes while smaller dogs might dream every 10 minutes with dreams lasting less than two minutes.

1. Supervolcano

252 million years ago, our planet decided it was sick of all these weird creatures crawling all over it. So to get rid of this irritating condition known as life, Earth went to the drug store and bought some special cream and it almost did the job. Nearly 90% of all ocean life vanished during this period along with 70% of land species and many kinds of insects trees plants and microbes too. This event was aptly named The Great Dying and scientists are uncertain as to what caused it.

Many of the potential contributors have been linked to the eruption of major volcanic eruptions in China and Russia just before the extinction took place. During these eruptions, the Chinese and Russian volcanoes are estimated to have ejected one to four thousand kilometers square of material causing the greenhouse effect and a mass of Methane release among a litany of other devastating side effects.

For comparison, the Yellowstone supervolcano was predicted to eject three thousand kilometers square of material when it erupts. And unfortunately for us, Yellowstone is overdue for an eruption by a few thousand years. As our other super volcanoes in North America, South America, Asia, and Oceania, if any of these magmas were to burst, it could lead to a series of environmental issues which going to cause the extinction of all life on Earth.

2. Asteroid Impact

Another historical cause of large-scale extinction here on earth is asteroid impact. We think that the Chicxulub asteroid wiped out the dinosaurs 66 million years ago and such an event could occur again if we were to miss calculate the trajectory of an Earthbound asteroid.

Thankfully, NASA is confident. It can track asteroids large enough to disrupt human life and as time goes on these detection efforts improve as our contingency plans should we identify collision late in the day.

But what if we have to deal with an asteroid that isn't coming at us from deep space? Confused a bit?

That's because you haven't heard of a varnish shot.

Varnish shots are a hypothetical volcanic reaction which launches a huge amount of material into a suborbital trajectory and because what comes up must come down. This mass of material would eventually fall back down to the earth creating a locally sourced whole foods style asteroid whose impact could be capable of wiping out humanity.

A varnish shot has never been witnessed but we have evidence that one may have taken place at the site of the Deccan Traps 66 million years ago meaning that the Chicxulub event could have been caused by an event here on earth. Anyone of these aforementioned supervolcano sites could play host to a varnish shot incident. And there is evidence to suggest that fracking activities could cause a chain reaction of events which results in an ejection that would otherwise not have occurred.

Another potential, man-made asteroid event could be generated through mining activities on comets and meteors which are moved in proximity to earth. We are expected to start mining asteroids for minerals in the next few decades but if an accident on board a near-earth asteroid were to cause it to change course, we would have no chance of reacting in time to prevent its impact.

3. Biological Disaster

Earth is already in the midst of its sixth major extinction event. On the off chance that a space rock effect or volcanic ejection were to happen at the present time the rest of the living things might not have enough of them to get by inside this modified atmosphere. Humans are the drivers of this extinction event. With our industrial activities resource requirements and population increase all contributing to the destruction of species around the world.

But we're not content to stop there. We're exacerbating the problem by releasing genetically modified organisms out into the biosphere without fully testing the effects. There is no way we can know the long-term consequence of genome editing upon earth delicately balanced ecosystems. Yet, there are many new species of animal and plant out there in the wild. As we speak, some of these organisms may become the dominant species among their type due to the advantage is given by genetic modification. Another threat comes from synthetic biology which involves the creation of artificial organisms from a mixture of biological and non-biological components. We have recently created the first synthetic DNA basis in synthetic bacteria and nobody is quite sure how far this technology will go. It is possible that we may accidentally create a super virus or super bacteria that wipes out all other life on Earth and this is no mere scare story. It is predicted by experts that we will see a major incident related to biological technology at some point in the next half-century.

4. Nanobots

The idea of nanobot was recommended as far back as the 1950s when physicist Richard Feynman portrayed his concept of smaller than expected robots fit for working, repairing and making things on an atomic level. In 2015, this innovation became alive when smaller scale engine controlled nanobots conveyed a nanoparticle compound straightforwardly into the gut tissue of a live mouse. And by the mid 21st century, it is expected that nanotechnology will have reached the point where we can manipulate individual molecules on mass using a swarm of these tiny robot tools.

However, the threat to earth comes when self-replication or artificial intelligence is introduced into the equation. If we were to create Von Neumann machines which our device is capable of recreating themselves using nothing but the necessary raw materials, an out-of-control swarm could end up consuming the entire planet. Their self-replicating nature means that once they begin, there would be no stopping a Von Neumann fleet. And such a swarm could even go on to consume the solar system and worlds beyond if they were powerful and numerous enough.

If we imbibe these machines with artificial intelligence, this destruction of the earth may not be an accident. An intelligent swarm of self-replicating robots may see mankind as a drain on its resources and have already acquired the knowledge required to improve themselves, a swarm of artificially intelligent Von Neumann machines may choose to consume our planet in order to fulfill one single primary purpose, the creation of more of themselves.

So unlike in the movies, it seems mankind is more likely to succumb to teeny-tiny little robots than a horde of giant Terminator death machines.

Surely, many of you have heard that if you really want to catch a liar when he's telling some bullshit instead of a true story, you just have to look them in the eyes. That's the case. Big Ben is really the nickname of the huge 14 ton Bell behind the scale plate of the gigantic watch. So, this Bell marks the time but nobody would name a whole tower after just one Bell. So, for a long time it's been called st. Stephens tower until when it changed its name officially.

Now, it didn't become Big Ben to simplify tourists life. He got the name of Elizabeth tower to honor the Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth.

5. The Highest Waterfall

Which waterfall is the tallest?

We're talking about an underwater waterfall and don't be so surprised. This is real. This nameless waterfall is 11,500 feet tall and it's located in the Denmark Strait, between Greenland and Iceland.
