Irina Sendler via TopTenz

This is Irina Senzler, who forged nurses credentials to enter the Warsaw Ghetto and smuggle Jewish children to safety. Captured by the Nazis, she was tortured and sent to prison. A bribe from her friends freed her, and she returned to her activities. Ultimately she saved approximately 2,500 Jewish children from the Ghetto. She was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 and died in 2008 at 98.

Book review: The Grand Finale by Janet Evanovich

Janet Evanovich is well-known for her "Plum" series, but occasionally does a one-off. The Grand Finale is a one-off.

Ever had one of those days where practically everything goes wrong? Well, our heroine, Berry, has one of those lives. In a single evening she falls out of a tree, her car is destroyed and she has to give up a free pizza to an understandably dissatisfied customer. On top of that, she's got three meddling little old ladies living with her in her one-bedroom flat. Things really take a turn for the ridiculous when she meets Jake. He's handsome, charming and good with kids and little old ladies, but he's not in her life plan.

Evanovich's flair for the absurd is working overtime here, and not always in a good way. While a lot of the misadventures are truly hilarious, it sometimes gets overplayed. Still a pretty good read.

The Mary Sue reports on a very rare statue, previously believed to be that of a female athlete, has been redefined by one historian as a Gladiatrix.

Although there's no dispute over the existence of female gladiators, this is only the second visual depiction of one discovered so far. Researcher Alfonso Manas believes that the woman is holding up a short sword as a symbol of victory, and looking downward at a fallen opponent.

1. Who is your favorite character in 2? I haven't decided yet. I know who it's supposed to be... but there's too much going on to know for sure.

2. Who is your least favorite character in 1? Probably Joffrey, although there are so many characters to dislike for so many reasons...

3. What’s your favorite episode of 4? Noel. As Christmas approaches, Josh finds himself more and more on edge without understanding why.

4. What is your favorite season of 5? So far, season 3 is where the show most hit its stride.

8. How did you become interested in 3? I was curious when I found out David Hyde Pierce was in it.

11. Which show have you seen more episodes of 1 or 3? 3, because it was on the air for much longer than #1 has been so far. But I've seen 100% of the episodes of both.

13. How would you kill off any character in 5? Frank is ripped in half in a tug-of-war between his mother and his girlfriend.

14. Would a 3/4 crossover work? Maybe Frasier and Niles could have campaigned for President Bartlet in the election.

15. Pair two characters in 1 that would make an unlikely, but strangely okay couple. All the couples make strange couples. Perhaps Danaerys and Joffrey.

16. Overall, which show has the better cast, 3 or 5? Three. It's a smaller ensemble, but each one is pitch-perfect. There are a lot of extraneous characters in 30 Rock that we could do without.

It's the most peeperful time of the year...

What is it about Peeps that makes them so disgusting, yet so much a part of Easter? I can't stand the things, yet without them it feels as if something's missing.

Fortunately for the last six years The Washington Post has let me have my Peeps and not have to eat them, too. They host the Peeps Diorama Contest. Hundreds will enter, but few will win.
