Every bride wants her wedding day to be the most beautiful day of her life—but there’s no need to land in the poor house in order to make this long-awaited dream come true! “My rule of thumb: There’s no need to spend a ton of money to have an elegant wedding,” states David Tutera, leading wedding and celebrity entertainment expert and star of WE’s My Fair Wedding. “You don’t have to buy a lot of things or have an abundance of trinkets to have a lavish, well-done wedding. Anyone on any budget can have a beautiful ceremony and reception. There is beauty in extravagance but there is also beauty in simplicity!”
David’s book, The Big White Book of Weddings: A How-to Guide for the Savvy, Stylish Bride, is dedicated to this very concept. Here are 10 of his money-saving tricks that will cut back on costs…but not class!
1. Create your budget before spending a dime Before booking or buying one thing for your big day, David strongly advises to figure out how much money is in your wedding fund. “Ensuring you have enough money to purchase what you want—and keeping you out of a disaster zone of debt to come home to from your honeymoon—is our priority here.” And while every bride’s budget is different, David offers these percentages as a guide on how your money should be spent: food and beverage 30%; flowers and decorations 15%; extra cushion 10%; entertainment 10%; venue rental 8%; lighting and sound 5%; tipping 5%; photos and video 4%; cake 3%; printed materials 2%; transportation 2%; hair and makeup 2%; dress 2% and accessories 2%.
2. Aim low on the guest list Guarantee your venue the lowest guest count possible. “You can always go up from there and you won’t ever be contractually obligated to pay for more people than you can guarantee,” says David.
3. Explore the drink options Beverages could run you a fortune, but the first thing to ask your venue is about special drink packages. David also suggests asking about the difference in price and quality between premium bar and a top-shelf bar, as well as asking if you can bring your own alcohol and pay a corkage fee.
4. Inquire about food choices Keep in mind that scaling down from a four-course dinner to a three-course dinner can save you money. Also, certain entrees and hors d’oeuvres may be priced lower than others, along with foregoing food stations and opting for passed hors d’oeuvres.
5. Think “variety” when it comes to flowers “To cut costs from having to pay for large arrangements for each table, ask for a mix of high and low arrangements or a variation of three correlating arrangement designs—varying in cost—mixed throughout the tables,” says David. “This will get you out of paying for all large arrangements and will also add aesthetic variety to the look of your reception on many visual levels.”
6. Find a “two-for-one” company when it comes to photography Some brides hire both a photographer and videographer, but if your budget does not allow to hire two professionals, search for a company that can offer you a package deal for both services. “Another way to save is to have your photographer put your wedding day photos into a video montage with music,” suggests David.
7. Go with one source for music “Have the same vendor provide you with music for each part of your wedding,” says David. “If you want a harpist for your ceremony, a trio for your cocktail hour and a band for your reception, keep it in the family. It will be more organized and you could potentially save money this way.”
8. Ask about bridal gown bargains When it comes to buying your dress, David suggests asking bridal departments and salons about upcoming sales and designer trunk shows. And he says that smaller boutiques may be willing to bargain. “If you buy all of your accessories in one place, they just may come down in price.”
9. Buy a fake cake Believe it or not, you can rent a fake wedding cake—and no one will ever know! “Realistically decorated and beautifully adorned to match your wedding, these faux wedding cakes are made for display only, yet contain a small section to cut into for show,” explains David. “Hidden in the back, servers will pre-cut sheet cakes and serve for a dessert illusion that will save you hundreds of dollars.”
10. Choose a “full” venue Keep in mind that when you find a venue that is just one, big empty space, your budget will need to expand since you will have to bring in everything, from chairs to chinaware. “So look for a venue that has these items in stock, and you will save yourself a bundle in both money and effort,” David suggests.

I need to brag a little..I think I am blessed with the sweetest brides ever.
And not only was Danielle a gem, but her new husband, Melvin,

has got to be one of the nicest grooms I have ever had.

I've been so fortunate to have done events for this family in the past,

and nothing thrills me more than when another family member

calls me to add some magic to their celebration.

So we peeked into Danielle's garden of dreams,

and produced the fuchsia flora, lighting, ceiling drapery,

silver chandeliers,and accessories amongst the backdrop of

The best invention in modern times, okay maybe not the absolute best...is the wedding website.....and nowadays they come in so many designs and styles. There is one for every personality and theme, and even one for those planning destination weddings. One source that I am more familiar with is weddingwire.com.

You can select from vintage, to modern or somewhat more traditional themes and even add your own music.

Once you have established your theme, you then welcome your visitors, begin to tell your story, add your pictures, introduce the important details of your wedding and your wedding party, and allow guests to rsvp.

Many people use this site to let guests know about the weather, the activities, the hotels and restaurants in Atlanta. It is also a great place to let your guests know whether your event will be all adult or not, where you are registered for gifts and any other unique expectations you have.

When my brides share their websites with me, I get a better feel for who the couple is and the type of event they desire. It's such a wonderful thing.

One our adorable brides marries at the St Regis

One of our favorite brides was Ashley, who was just like a princess on her wedding day.

I still remember meeting her and her mother who is equally as beautiful. It was a warm sunny day...and as they turned the corner to approach my desk, it was like a ray of sunshine personally came in to make my day!

Ashley's wedding took place at the wondrous St Regis Hotel, in Buckead, Atlanta in the summer 2011. Her desire was to have a romantic outdoor wedding that incorporated and touch of Venice with all its vintage textured elements. The reception incorporated more traditional, vintage decor complete with a backdrop of corinthian columns highlighting a ten foot cake, and vintage silver candeabras with dripping crystals and flowers, clusters of tonal white and green flora and tons of mercury glass encased candles.

For Ashley's Cocktail hour, we created a lifesize-9ft twiggy tree with hanging note cards with crystals attached for each guest, which truly was an amazing showstopper .

I loved, loved, loved working with Ashley, from start to finish!

I have countless brides who I have met in the past, some even came into our studios for consultations, and some referred to us...but all either decided or were gifted flowers from family members or friends. Many, have called after the wedding, and many more have referred their friends and other brides to us as a result of the experience.

As you can imagine, most have complained that either their flowers were a disaster or not what they wanted or expected. Others have even said they are no longer speaking to the relative/friend who was responsible for the 'unhappiness'. The common denominator is not that the person did not have the best intentions, it is that they simply lacked the experience to fulfill their promise or the bride's dream.

..And once the wedding day is over....it's over. There is no re-acting, or recreating the day, or photoshopping prettier flowers into the experience.

Walking into the room glistening in gold, floors polished, the linens pressed and pristine, I was simply amazed -- astounded is more like it -- at the sheer volume of lush roses, drooping orchids, and Casablanca lilies pouring out of every corner. This must have cost a fortune.

I had been called in on an emergency, as a floral paramedic urged to save the day an hour before the ceremony was to begin. You see, moments before, as my team and I were setting up other parts of the wedding, vases began to break as if a ghost were upset at the sight of these off-kilter arrangements being put out on unstable grass on a particularly windy day.

There was no ghost of course, but the glass vases of these tall arrangements, stuffed so densely with flowers and branches, simply couldn't bear the uneven weight distribution. It was something out of a movie: Bam! One of the arrangements toppled over, crashing against the backdrop of the clear blue ocean, a slow-motion fall, crushing the dreams and hard work of the bride's relative who had arranged these expensive flowers that would eventually go to waste. Then another, bam! crashed, and another...

When I saw this, I saw dollar signs burning in flames. Working with perishables is a risk. Working on arrangements for someone's wedding with no experience is damn right foolish! So here I was, in the five-star hotel room, with a frantic wedding planner swearing that she was going to change her policy, and a relative in absolute panic, making a call to the bride while they were getting ready to let her know the flowers weren't going to happen.

My eyes were wide open, and for the first time I realized just how important my job is when it comes to any type of event, whether it be a wedding, party, or bar-mitzvah. People underestimate the mechanics of creating an arrangement, and so when the orchids were stuffed at the base, and it was one-sided, there was no way it was going to work. My team was there to take care of the personals and other details, while the relative had created unbalanced arrangements the day before the ceremony. We later found out that during the reception -- yes, the reception -- a huge topiary-style arrangement broke, with water and glass flying onto the guests.

Back in the hotel room, I took an assessment of what we had to work with. The relative wanted to put the arrangements in trash cans surround by towels to keep them stable. I'm sorry, I feel really bad that this happened, but you cannot do that, I told her gently. The fact was, there was simply no time to redo anything. We created some rose petals out of the roses, and accented the arbor with the orchids. Some of the family members ended up using fishing wire to tie the arrangements to the back row of chairs, which did end up looking really pretty.

The bride of course loved the bouquets, and was absolutely glowing in the photos. She and the groom were clearly over-the-moon in love, so not even floral mishaps could've dampened her day (which is how it should be, right?).

In the end, if you want to go the D-I-Y route, know your limits. Constructing large, complicated arrangements is not only time-consuming, but also extremely stressful, and too risky for a major event. For the amount of money spent on the flowers, plus the hotel room and time to arrange, they could've hired a professional for not much more than they already spent. The same goes with bouquets -- unless you really want a just-picked-from-the-garden look, it's worth it to hire a pro. You really can't put a price on peace of mind.

To RSVP or to not RSVP

DEAR MISS MANNERS: We received a wedding invitation and are wondering if an RSVP is necessary. The invitation came with a stamped envelope. It did not ask for a yes or a no. It simply asked for your name and the number of people attending if you were to go.

We believe you need to RSVP only if you plan to attend, and no response is needed if you are not. If there were boxes to check yes or no, then you reply either way. Can you please set us straight?

GENTLE READER: Please, Miss Manners begs you, apply a modicum of your own common sense here. If you issue an invitation, even the most offhand of invitations, such as “Want to take a break and go down to the cafeteria for a cup of coffee?” don’t you expect a response?

Well, the R in “RSVP” means, in French, “respond.” It is not that regrettable term “regrets only,” which makes it clear that the event is so massive and impersonal that the hosts won’t notice whether or not you are there. (Yet they take it upon themselves to assume that you will regret not attending.)

Silence is an insult, not a response. It means that the hosts have to keep a place for you in case you are tardy in replying or, even worse, just plan to show up.

Your non-response illustrates the folly of hosts attempting to corral neglectful guests by doing most of their job — supplying paper, stamps, and even most of the words. Is it really too much to expect the invited to use their own paper and stamp to write back? In this case, the envelope and stamp are already provided, and all you have to supply is a reply. Miss Manners of course would prefer a formal one, written out by yourself, but if that defeats you, you could at least state your intentions on the card.

These people thought enough of you to invite you to their wedding. You don’t have to go, and you don’t have to send a present. But ignoring them — not replying and not sending your good wishes — is callous.

Real Housewives of Atlanta's Kim Zolciak has opened up her wedding album after marrying toyboy Kroy Biermann in a lavish ceremony last week.

The 33-year-old wore not one but THREE dramatic - and rather expensive - ensembles throughout her nuptials.

And she was happy to show them off in pictures for this week's issue of Life & Style magazine.

One is not enough: Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kim Zolciak wore not one but three wedding outfits for her $1 million nuptials to Kroy Biermann, here she is seen in her first wedding gown worth $58,000

Fellow reality TV star Kim Kardashian also had three costume changes during her ill-fated wedding to Kris Humphries back in August, but the new mother is no doubt hoping for a more happier ending to her fairytale.

The most extravagant ensemble of the three was Kim's low cut 32 pound and $58,000 opulent creation.

The Southern belle-style gown was the centrepiece for when Kim and Kroy exchanged nuptials.

Kim bought the hand-made Baracci Beverly Hills creation from website PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com after falling in love with the used frock online.

Second frock: At her reception the reality star switched dresses, putting another pearl and Swarovski crystals creation, this time a $18,000 mermaid style gown designed by Pnina Tornai of Say Yes to the Dress fame

The over-the-top number was covered in Swarovski crystals, pearls, beads and embroidered lace, while the fabric was 100 percent Duchess Satin.

She also wore a matching veil which had the same, hand-stitched detailing and a glittering tiara.

'I just remember thinking, this is the day I’ve waited my whole life for,' Kim tells Life & Style. 'I really do feel like I’m dreaming.'

The bride rocked a gigantic 11-carat emerald-cut knuckle duster band for herself, while Kroy slipped on a serious sparkler featuring 77 black diamonds and 26 white diamonds.

Other extravagant items included $14,000 11-layer cake from Highland Bakery, and napkins embroidered with the couple’s monogram.

Kim said she had no problems shelling out for the whopping $1 million bill.

'We spared no expense, you only do this once,' she told Life & Style magazine.

'This is it for me. It was very expensive, but we were in a position to do it, and I’m thankful for that.'

But she reiterated that the best part of it all was getting married to the love of her life.

The couple's baby son Kroy Jagger, who was born in June, was also there.

Kim clearly loved every aspect of her special day which took place on 'lucky date' November 11, 2011.

'Beautiful weather! Beautiful day!! I'm walking on a cloud and I'm so grateful,' she wrote on her Twitter account.

It has also been revealed that Kim's lavish wedding will be aired in her new reality spin-off series titled, Don't Be Tardy for the Wedding.

A representative for Bravo confirmed to Life & Style that Kim's show will air in 2012.

'I am so excited to share my life with everyone,' Kim told Life & Style. 'I can't wait for everybody to see my personal life on an intimate level.'

Kim met her much-younger husband at an Atlanta fundraiser in 2010 and thinks he fits in perfectly with her family.

'He's really fantastic with my girls,' she told People magazine during her pregnancy. 'I couldn't have asked for a better partner ever.'

Twilight fans can have their very own fairytale wedding experience next year when Carolina Herrera's CHNY boutiques begin selling gowns in the same design as worn by Bella Swan in Breaking Dawn - Part 1.

The white sheath wedding dress with a lace-embellished back was custom-made for actress Kristen Stewart by New York fashion designer Herrera, who said she was ''flattered'' when asked to create the gown and felt the pressured to deliver something that would please Twilight fans.

''I wanted to create a magical moment that they had at the wedding,'' Herrera told Reuters at the movie's red carpet premiere last week.

''She's an innocent girl that is finding her first true love, so there is romance, there is magic, there is everything together,'' Herrera said.

Ahead of the film's debut, the details of Bella's dress seemed as closely guarded as Alexander McQueen's gown for this year's British royal wedding. But fans of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 were finally able to see it for themselves when the film stormed worldwide box offices over the weekend, taking in $238.5 million.

No further details have been released from Carolina Herrera regarding how many dresses will be produced or their retail price, but for Twilight fans eager to wear the dress down the aisle before next year, bridal dress company Alfred Angelo are already selling replicas from $799 (NZ$1066) in select stores worldwide.

Not much difference between this year and next...but lavender continues to be the number one color for wedding here in the South.

While pink remains an all time favorite, and the neutral hues in stones and grey, a close second, I welcome the endless possibilities in textures and tones surrounding the peachy- apricots and soft teals.

Finally! A Look at Beyonce's Wedding Dress

Though she may have gotten married in 2008, Beyonce has kept her wedding dress tightly under wraps -- until now. Thanks to the release of a new music video and DVD, we're finally getting a look at the dress Beyonce wore to say "I do" to Jay-Z, reports Us magazine.

The songstress looked stunning in what appears to be a strapless, sweetheart gown made of satin or silk with a voluminous train and asymmetrical ruching. From the preview in the video, there's also a scene of Beyonce jumping into a swimming pool in another white dress that appears to be made of lighter fabric, like organza or chiffon. No word yet from the "Single Ladies" singer on whether these assumptions about her dress are accurate.

“Twi-Hards” or not, Bella and Edward’s wedding in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ is one of the most anticipated movie weddings of all time. On-screen and real life sweethearts Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson tie the knot in a highly emotional and awe-inspiring scene which sees Bella become a member of the Cullen’s vampire family. The “Midsummer Night’s Dream” style affair is set in a beautiful forest where garlands of white blossoms are strung from trees and the ground is carpeted with petals. “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” hits theaters November 18, so here is everything you need to know about the wedding.

The Ring: Bella’s gold engagement ring is a long oval, set with slanting rows of glittering round stones that create a fragile web around the diamonds. Here is a style similar to Bella’s engagement ring.

Invitation: Bella and Edward’s silver embossed wedding invitation is printed on card stock and has a shimmery silver border. The wording requests the presence of guests on August 13, 2011 at 5 p.m.

Venue: Although the wedding takes place in Forks, Washington in the book, the wedding scene was filmed over several days along the Shannon River in Squamish, British Columbia. Set in a forest along the banks of the river, white blossoms were hung in garlands from the trees and rows of wooden benches sat guests from the Cullen and Swan families. Shrouded in secrecy, boats patrolled the water to make sure that onlookers could not get close while filming took place.

Bella’s Wedding Dress: Designed by Carolina Herrera, Bella’s wedding dress is a long-sleeved white gown with a boat-neck and belted waist. Alfred Angelo will create a replica of Bella’s wedding dress available in stores in late November.

Bridal Shoes: Also designed by Carolina Herrera, Bella’s wedding shoes are white satin pumps adorned with crystal clusters.

Accessories: Bella wears Grandma Swan’s diamond and sapphire hair comb with her veil attached underneath. The family heirloom is Bella’s something old and something blue.

Bridesmaid Dresses: Alice Cullen wears a lavender flapper style beaded and fringe dress with a silvery striped pattern. “We wanted to have all the bridesmaids fit together and also have their own identity,” Greene tells People.com. “So, we took a little bit of Alice’s past and put it into her dress.”

Bridal Hair: Bella’s hair is done by Rosalie who makes two braids at the side of her head and then gathers them into a bun with long whispy strands left out to frame her face. “I want it intricate,” Bella says of her hairstyle in the book.

Makeup: Bella’s wedding makeup includes charcoal gray eye shadow with a smoky liquid liner along the top lid. Her ivory complexion is complemented by peachy pink lips and rosy cheeks.

The Music: Bella walks down the aisle to Wagner’s traditional “Wedding March.” Later in the evening, the couple share their first dance as husband and wife to “Flightless Bird, American Mouth” by Iron & Wine, the same song they danced to at the prom.

The Vows: The couple recite traditional vows, taking turns making the promise to “love and to cherish one another as long as we both shall live.”

Honeymoon: The newlyweds honeymoon at the Cullen family’s private island, Isle Esme, off the coast of Brazil. The honeymoon scenes were filmed in St. Thomas and cast stayed at the Ritz Carlton, St. Thomas Resort.

Forehead Fascinators and Nude Heels Galore at Zara Phillips’s Wedding!

This weekend saw Zara Phillips looking utterly resplendent as she walked down the aisle to Mike Tindall wearing a classic gown designed by the Queen's own couturier, Stewart Parvin. The full-skirted beauty was adorned with a row of covered buttons and topped off with a cathedral-length (ie: to the floor) veil, plus her mother's Greek key tiara.
But it wasn’t just the bride’s frock that had us agog – oh no. In fact, there was more coiffed hair under fancy hats than a day at the races and given the choice of footwear, we’re assuming a strict ‘Nude Heels Only’ memo. Seriously, what has K-Middy started?! Happily, there were several colourful splashes too, not to mention a satisfying absence of headpieces resembling parts of the female anatomy. Phewf! So from the likes of Princess Bea to err, that Irish one from The Saturdays and some lass from Corrie (oh yes), let’s take a look at Zara’s wedding belles…

We begin, of course, with Kate Middleton. The Duchess of Cambridge chose a brocade coat by Jane Troughton in an understated, Mother-Middy-would-approve creamy tone to avoid upstaging the bride. How sweet. Plus, being a bona fide recessionista, this is another recycled number – not only did Kate wear it for the 2006 wedding of Laura Parker Bowles but also for last May’s wedding of Mel Nicholson and Oli Baker. What's more, DoC accessorised the look with – quelle surprise! – her trusty LK Bennett shoes and matching clutch.

The hat, however, is entirely new and, sitting at a precariously jaunty angle, makes a more adventurous statement than we’re used to. Indeed, following on from Beatrice’s pretzel-as-a-hat, Kate’s headgear has already garnered comparisons to a pringle – how rude! But note the gorgeously feminine flowers on the under side and did we mention forehead fascinators are sooo OTM? Exactly. NUDE HEELS COUNT: 1

As for the maven of bonkers wedding wear, Bea continued her sartorial epiphany with a fabulous fitted jacket with flared peplum detail by Angela Kelly over a matching dress covered in corsages and Swarorski crystals. And proving just how far she’s come post hat-gate, Bea wisely opted for a subtle satellite dish-inspired hat. One Tweeter asked, ‘Is Beatrice helping Sky get close-up coverage?’ *snort* NUDE HEELS COUNT: 2

Bea’s sister Eugenie also fared better than she did on 29th April. Her very safe chocolate-brown dress with an oyster-coloured fitted jacket guarantees she won't fall into Ugly Sisters territory again, but we can't help wondering if it's too frumpy for the 21-year-old? NUDE HEELS COUNT: 3

Oh, how we love Camilla’s hat. Granted, it is a tad sprouty and pot-plant-esque, but the delicate feather-like detailing makes it an original and youthful creation, dontcha think? As for the tailored silk jacket, no prizes for guessing this one’s by Anna Valentine, the same designer who made the Duchess of Cornwall’s elegant outfit for Wills and Kate’s Big Day, as well as her own. NUDE HEELS COUNT: 4

A refreshingly summery sight came courtesy of Coronation Street actress Katherine Kelly who swooshed into Canongate Kirk sporting cascading ruffles on a flowing neutral gown, polished off with a bold colour-popping, wide-brimmed hat and matching orange clutch. What a winner. And if you’re wondering why a (whisper it) CORRIE star is at a royal wedding, it’s because Katherine was a former classmate of the groom. So now you know. NUDE HEELS COUNT: 5

See, we weren’t kidding when we said there was an actual Saturday in attendance and can we just ask: what on EARTH was Una Healy thinking? Forget Chelsy Davy’s outrageous shoulder flaunting at the Cambridges’ ceremony, this saucy minx went a skin-flashing step further with a skimpy strapless frock covered in vibrant florals and black lace. The congregation must’ve clasped the pearls in horror! And we can only imagine what poor Queenie thought *shudders* NUDE HEELS COUNT: 6

Onto the Mother of the Bride, Princess Anne donned a floral cropped jacket teamed with a midi-length chiffon skirt and subtle fascinator. As one not typically au fait with wedding dress etiquette (remember this?), we highly applaud her trendy attire. NUDE HEELS COUNT: 7

Sophie, Countess of Wessex also chose a flouncy skirt with structured jacket combo in a pale pink tone created by Bruce Oldfield, finished off with a dramatic hat not unlike K-Middy's. Top marks. NUDE HEELS COUNT: 8

Last but never least, we give you the Queen. Just as she did for April's Royal Wedding, for which she wore colour-blocking yellow by Stewart Parvin, HRH sported a summery head-to-toe hue from the designer, this time in a delightful shade of apricot. Meanwhile, the complementary hat with feather detailing is by Rachel Trevor-Morgan. NUDE HEELS COUNT: 9
