I love putting together a little wish list every month; it’s almost as much fun as actual shopping. This month’s round-up is a nice little mashup of fashion and jewelry, with a few fun home finds thrown in.

What’s on my MAY wish list

Before I dive in, I wanted to share two hyperfixations. The first is a big fringe piano shawl. When Kelly visited a couple of weeks ago, she had one on, and I became obsessed. She bought hers at a thrift store in Brooklyn, but as it turns out, Etsy has so many. I wound up buying two: a vibrant yellow and a more classic ivory. These seem to me like the way to add a chic vintage vibe to Charleston’s many garden parties and events, where everyone is wearing dresses.

The second: vintage Chinese Tang jackets. This started for me (as so many things do right now) with Conner Ives. I really want this. Alas, it’s very expensive and impractical. One of my favorite vintage accounts had a big drop and posted this vintage coat, which I actually like even more. I nearly bought it, but I think it would be too small. What is interesting about that one is that it’s a set: a fur collar and a silk jacket. Which got me thinking. A removable fur is so much better, especially if you live somewhere warm. I have my grandmother’s fur collar that I could easily add to a silk jacket. Then I got on Etsy and had an absolute field day. It was an actual treasure trove. I ordered three jackets, none of them more than $200. Also, not my size, but this $50 gold brocade jacket feels so similar to the Kallmeyer one I pre-ordered on Moda a couple of months ago.

3. I am really liking the Isabel Marant x Havaianas collaboration. What a fantastic brand pairing. This pair is my personal favorite.
4. On the affordable front, I am really into these stripe totes and am thrilled that the brand came out with matching pouches. The color combinations are really fun.
5. OMG, these fringe vases (yes, vases!) are insanely cool and unique.
6. Do we all need these $34 fabric bags? I think yes. I ordered the green.
7. Somebody, please buy this extremely fancy silver-plated broom-and-dustpan set. OMG!
8. The Dagne Dover x Lola Blankets collab is totally brilliant. One of my favorite travel bags, paired with a travel-sized version of the world’s softest faux fur blanket? Love it.
9. A truly perfect flip-flop.
10. The new-to-me New Zealand Brand Harris Tapper just launched on Moda Operandi, and I want everything. These taffeta pants (I really like the bungee-cord waist) are in my cart; I love this silk maxi skirt and this wrap top… and I am praying that this gorgeous jacket comes back in stock; it’s stunning.

If I could only use one makeup brand for the rest of my life, I think I would choose Jones Road! When the brand launched, it was probably the most requested review I’d had. I diligently bought all the products with my own money, slowly tried them all, and this post has my honest, unsponsored thoughts about each of them.

Jones Road Beauty is makeup artist Bobbi Brown’s most recent venture (into clean beauty, no less!). Obviously, Bobbi Brown doesn’t need any introduction – she is an extraordinarily talented makeup artist. I’ve been a die hard fan of her namesake line of products for years now, watched her Masterclass, and was ultra excited to try out her newest brand.

She left Bobbi Brown cosmetics in 2016 and is no longer affiliated with the company or its products. I had been watching and waiting to see what she would do next and here it is: Jones Road: her newest venture. Bobbi launched Jones Road in 2020 (at the height of the pandemic) as a multi-functional, inclusive line of cosmetics that are meant to bridge the gap between skincare and makeup. As someone who has dry skin, I find the formulas to be really nourishing and hydrating. This works very well for me, but if you have oilier skin, this brand may not be for you.

Overall, I really like most of the products I tried. There are a few exceptions, where noted. Overall, I am a big fan of this brand! I bought all of these products with my own money, placing three different orders over several months.

Things I love about the brand:

My favorite thing about this brand is that it seems to be really amazing for dry and/or mature skin! I am 44 and also have very, very dry skin. The formulas melt into your skin and feel really, really good. Jones Road Beauty What the Foundation made me rethink how makeup should feel. I have never had a foundation (maybe a tinted moisturizer) that actually felt really (really!) good to put on my face. Creamy, luxe, hydrating.

The products are also easy to apply. I am never going to be the girl who contours her face or spends more than twenty minutes (twenty minutes would be for a fancy occasion) putting on makeup. I like a five-minute face. And I always want to feel like myself. My favorite products are the kind that make you look like yourself but justttt a little bit better. That’s Jones Road. Also, I like that every formula is free of phthalates, sulfates, petroleum, PEGs, EDTA, or BPA.

Also: the brushes. Every single one of them. Jones Road makes the best brushes I’ve ever used. This one especially. Year after year, it’s one of my best-selling products.

I get into each product I tried below, but know that some of us want a quick summary. So here’s the net takeaway! Of the products that I tried, What the Foundation, Just a Sec, Mascara, the Bronzer, the tinted moisturizer, and the Shimmer Face Oil are incredible – holy grail favorites. I also really like the sparkle wash and the brow pencil. They have each earned spots in my rotation. Of recent launches, I super adore the new shadow sticks!

WTF What the Foundation

I became very interested in this product after all the TikTok drama. (Bobbi’s response was SO GOOD). It was actually Bobbi’s response that sold me on the product: a lower coverage, highly moisturizing foundation that was meant to give that no-makeup makeup sort of look. At the time, it was sold out in so many shades. So I ordered it in medium (thinking it could be too dark but maybe with a tan, and if not, I could at least get a feel for the product?). The medium is perfect.

This is such a fantastic product and there is one for every skin tone. It’s perfect for dry-skinned people and mature skin as it is incredibly hydrating. I like it so much that when it came back in stock I also picked up the beige for when my summer tan fades. (I really worry that it’s going to sell out again?)

This has more coverage than a skin tint, but for a foundation is lower coverage. I really like that it is buildable so you can just layer on a bit more in areas you want more coverage. A little goes a long way; I think it plays really well with this brush, I like to slowly build! You do not need a lot and the jar will last a pretty long time.

Just Enough Tinted Moisturizer

The tinted moisturizer just launched a few months ago and it is fantastic. Already, a favorite JRB product. As an aside, I love that this brand isn’t churning out multiple new launches every month. They wait, perfect the formula, and only launch something if it’s necessary. This tinted moisturizer qualifies as necessary, IMO! It’s silky smooth, perfect for warmer weather, and sinks into your skin. It doesn’t look like you have makeup on; you look a little bit better–skin is more even, less red, more glowy. My shade is Ivory!

Miracle Balm

I did not initially love this, but now I am obsessed, especially in the winter. The key is how you apply it. When applied with a brush, this product is like a radiant, magical instagram filter. Miracle balm is a tinted moisture balm. My favorite shade is “Magic Hour.” Apply it with THIS brush. I stand by the idea of not using it with your fingers (which is how they show it on the website) but with a brush, it is wonderful and is what made me fall in love with the product.

My favorite way to freshen up my makeup and/or wake up tired looking skin mid day. My second favorite shade is the new Miami Beach. It really makes you look like you’re on vacation— it’s a peachy coral with subtle flecks of gold. I use this as a blush and on my lips; applying with my fingertips.

The Face Pencil

I bought this in 10 Light Med- Neutral Undertones. I liked it (especially for undereye), but didn’t love it. But I do think it does a great job with undereyes as it covers dark circles and doesn’t settle into the fine lines there. It’s very creamy and feels good on your skin. (Jones Road’s products are all this way, making the line a dream for dry skin.) A reader also pointed out that it is great for travel as it does not count as a liquid. So now it is my travel concealer. Smart, smart.

Shimmer Face Oil

I really like this product, which I bought in Midas. It’s just shimmery enough and so pretty. I used it under What the Foundation for a suuuuuper dewy, radiant, glowy look. You can also use this as a highlighter, or dab a bit on your collarbone, shoulders, and down the shin bones for a little extra glow. A little goes (and glows) a long way.

This is the brand’s newest launch and I like it a lot. It is creamy and hydrating and sinks right into my skin, making it look better than my natural skin but not like I am wearing a ton of makeup.

This is a really nice lip gloss, designed to replace their “Cool Gloss,” which I also really liked! I love that it is more of a treatment prodcut. The metal applicator applicator feels amazing on your lips and it contains peptides to help (subtly) plump them up. I tend to favor lighter glosses and rosy pinks so my personal favorite shades are On the Rocks, Petal, and Pink Lilac.

The Classic Lip

I love this lipstick. It’s exactly how you’d imagine that Jones Road would do lipstick. Creamy (like all of their products, it’s great on dryer skin!) in a shade range that is natural and just really pretty. Nude Pink is my everyday fave but I also love Nude Rose . . . and Coral for something fun!

The Lip Pencil

Just a really pretty easy lip pencil. It acts as a nice anchor for your lipstick or gloss, making it stay on longer. Nude Pink is my personal favorite.

The Best Pencil

This pencil is fine. I bought the navy blue and the silver (for something fun). I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. It didn’t feel any more special than a drugstore eyeliner. Maybe I’m just salty because of the name. It’s not bad but it’s not the “best.” In my opinion, the best eyeliner is actually this one from Ilia, or the Victoria Beckham one.

The Brow Pencil

I bought this brow pencil in Ash. It’s a really nice brow pencil. It blended in seamlessly and didn’t look like I had anything on (yet the before and after would be very noticeable, my brows get really washed out). I like this.

The Brow Gel

I was sad about this as I really wanted to love it, but I did not care for the brow gel. The clear one is okay but the wand is so big that the application felt clunky. I don’t “get” the brush. It feels like a huge miss to me – I will stick to Boy Brow or for something without a tint, this one from Refy.

The Best Eye Shadow

I am not sure if this is actually, the best eye shadow. Even within the brand’s portfolio of products, I prefer “Just a Sec,” their cream to powder shadow. I bought the champagne and was underwhelmed. It’s nice (sheer, blends well, pretty colors) but nothing to write sonnets about. Maybe I would have liked it more if they didn’t describe it as “the best.” Same with the eyeliner. I take product names too seriously, it seems.

Just a Sec

This, after the foundation, was the second-favorite product I tried. I ordered this in Topaz (a shimmery medium brown) and LOVE – I liked it so much that I bought it in golden peach and bronze. It’s a cream-to-powder eye shadow and really, really pretty. I love low-maintenance products, and this is nice because you can just use your fingers and tap it on, building as you go.

Sparkle Wash

I love a little sparkle and bought this one in Gilded, a shimmery gold. This is extremely pretty on. This is a liquid eye shadow that could probably be used a lot of different ways (you could get a molten look if you used more). I like to dot maybe three dots on with the applicator, and then blend with a brush. The result is really ethereal and pretty. I wore this to a few holiday parties this year with rave reviews. My favorite way to apply is to put down just a little concealer as a base, use a dark brown liner at the root of my lashes, and then dab this on to my lids… building for a more molten look.

The Mascara

I was really wowed by this mascara. I have had a hard time finding clean mascaras that really impress me and this is a good one. It gets your lashes longer and thicker… and probably the best part: no feathering, flaking, or fading. It is a great mascara (maybe my favorite one right now). Big fan.

The Eyeshadow Stick

I was absolutely thrilled when JRB launched these eyeshadow sticks as (I think!) Bobbi was the inventor of the shadow sticks. Would I like these as much as I like her original Bobbi Brown shadow sticks? Yes, yes I do! The shades are gorgeous (Taupe and Cream are my personal favorites and go-to’s) and they wear really well.. I really hope they launch a shimmer or iridescent version!

The Fragrance – Shower

This fragrance is one of those products I LOVE that I rarely see anyone else talking about! Shower is the perfect name for it. It doesn’t smell like soap, but it does smell fresh and clean… with notes of orange blossom, which I love. The perfect really wearable everyday fragrance.
