But this year we decided to hit the show with a little more structure, and do some good honest work for Perpetual Geek Machine while we were there. This podcast is just another salvo of PAX East 2012 coverage, and culls together all the interviews we conducted on the floor over the stretch of the convention.

We played a ton of games... like, a ton. We only cover a fraction of those in this show. So the interviews presented therein aren't indicative of what we thought was cool at the show. Just after noon on Friday we had the chance to sit down with Chris Plinksy from the Dungeons and Dragons group over at Wizards of the Coast. He told us all about their plans for the upcoming year across all facets of the Universe. Be it RPG, boardgame or miniatures it seems like the Dungeons and Dragons brand has got you covered with tons of product. (2:09 - 12:11)

After our Wizards of the Coast meeting we decided to hit the show floor and check out some of the smaller indie dev titles. While trying to make sure we saw everything we also did our best to pull a few of the developers aside and chat them up about their games!

• First up, Ziba Scott from PopCannibal talks Girls Like Robots(13:21 - 16:40)
• Then, David Sushil from Bad Pilcrow (developers of the fantastic Vanessa Saint-Pierre Delacroix and her Nightmare) filled us in on his new game Not Without You(16:40 - 18:43)
• We then ventured out into the corners of the show floor and found a first person golf game laced with ghosts and ghouls called Curse of the Nordic Cove and talked to On the Level GamesExecutive Director of Design & Development Jeff Reimert about it (18:43 - 20:55)
• Finally we spoke with Jake Kazdal from Haunted Temple Studios about Skulls of the Shogun.(20:55 - 22:37)

Taking a break from the show floor we decided to head for higher ground and found ourselves in the Kickstarter Arcade room, featuring both current projects and past winners.

• After watching a few moments of Guns Of Icarus Online we pulled aside Alex Jarocha-Ernst from Muse Gamesto talk to us about it. (24:07 - 26:46)
• No rest for the wicked, we ventured to the tabletop area and met up with Dave Schrader from Schrader Heavy Industries who was demoing his single book role playing game the "Light Weight RPG." In between adventures we had him tell us a little bit about his project. (26:46 - 28:43)

Sunday came around too fast, as is always the case with PAX. However before catching a train to head home we decided to squeeze in a few more demos and playtests with a doubleshot of titles at Steve Jackson Games.

• First up is the to-be-released-this-summer castle building game Castellan. The pieces were really unique and you can see us playing in some of these pictures. Lots of fun and the interlocking pieces are nice! (29:25 - 32:38)
• Then we managed to finagle a conversation with Andrew Hackard, Munchkin Brand Manager, who spoke on what Munchkinis and what areas the tounge-in-cheek game is going to move into next Munchkin (32:38 - 37:30)
• Hey, Bonus interview! A little before PAX East we interviewed George Rothrock: Director of Product and Busines Development & Gary Weis: Chief Technology Officer from Playdek about their conversion of the combative deck building game Nightfall. This episode plays out a bit differently than our standard set-up. There's no geekspew as there was simply no news stories we thought interesting enough to make show topics. This podcast had the unintended outcome of a central theme. The topic that seemed to come up over and over again was that while we enjoy getting excellent products and services, we really hate how companies can be so damn high and mighty about it. It's no small coincidence that Apple is part of that discussion. Going in we all thought this show would end up shorter than most, and while it definitely is that... it's not by much. I guess the standard PGM show is always going to be around the 90 minute mark. A question for the listeners then.... is that too long? Too short? We obviously want to make the product our users want, so let us know!

• We start things off in the spirit off Halloween and talk "scary" movies and the recently supposed scary flick that didn't really do much for Dan.

• Ryan - 3D printers are a real and actual thing. There are few times in life when you can recognize the future while you're looking at it, usually you end up looking back to see where the important changes actually set things into motion. But a printer than can actually print itself (and other 3D objects) gets us all kinds of excited for the future. Makerbots are the real deal!
• Kevin -After years of development hell, The Hobbit is coming to theaters!
• Dan - What was planned as a look back at 25 years of NES goodness quickly ends up turning into the utterly lackluster launch lineup for Kinect. Interesting conversation ensues are what exactly we're paying for when we buy games/controllers/systems.

Mathematically speaking... this is a hell of a milestone or sorts. Factoring in The Bitcast podcasts (the totally awesome video-game podcast we did before PGM got off the ground) ended at episode 90. Now we're airing Perpetual Geek Machine #10 so for all intents and purposes this is the #100th show for Kevin and Dan, who back with friend of the show Jim Squires got together to record Bitcast #1 on March 27, 2007 (Dan's 30th birthday coincidentally).

The show certainly has evolved since that time (especially in the "we sound like we know what we're doing" department). Onward and upward!

• Kevin - Kevin talks Minecraft and ponders it's long-term place in the gaming landscape and then talk Dungeons and Dragons where Kevin is a player but Dan runs the whole damn universe. Well, trying to... he's still learning.
• Ryan - The Move controller is out, and Ryan has been getting his fill of Move Sports Champions. Turns out the ping-pong game is pretty damn good. Also, Enslaved dropped from the makers of Heavenly Sword.

• Ryan - The future of handhelds and what exactly the Jungle thinks it's doing coming out in 2010 and not 1998.
• Kevin - Predicting traffic jams is big business and if it works could help us all get to where we're going faster and safer
• Dan - A scant 20 light-years away scientists have found what people are referring to as "life-like." It's amazing to us that there's just so much out there that we have no clue about. Also, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is being made into a movie.

We're rocking and rolling along now, with more than a few shows in the can I honestly feel like we're really hitting our stride now. Having a show with separate segments makes for a better overall experience, both as a listener and as a host. It really does give us the feel of doing a radio show, especially cause what we do is essentially live to tape. Record, talk for 90 minutes and then stop. Of course there's some technical wizardry in the background to make it sound like 3 people hundreds of miles away from each other all sound like we're in the same room, but that's why the quality of this podcast is better than rabble.

• Xav was the only one of our group so far to see the Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World movie, so if you're looking for the Perpetual Geek conversation about Mr. Pilgrim, this is it (though his name might come up when we get our hands on that XBLA game). In addition to the tales of a Canadian superhero Xav dove into the new Lara Croft game (sans Tomb Raider title) and reports back good times!
• Kevin spent most of his gaming life the past few weeks playing Monday Night Combat, which judging by general internet reaction is pretty damn solid. While away from the internet he dug out his PSP(!) for a little Hot Shots Tennis: Get a Grip while on vacation. Since the device was powered he decided to dig into the PSP comics reader as well.
• Dan also enjoyed copious amounts of Monday Night Combat after returning home and getting back on the net. Some DRM bullshit while on vacation left him holding an Xbox 360 with barely any working games which led to the trial and enjoyment of the few year old Pure from Blackrock Studios. He also tried to take a look at the new Zen Pinball table on the PS3 but online nonsense on Sony's part left him unable to buy anything from them, and the official response back was both baffling and hilarious.

• Kevin kicks it off by cluing us into some browser game goodness in the form of Lord of Ultima. It really doesn't look much like the Ultima games we grew up with, but hey... it runs in your browser! Over the weekend Kevin and Dan got together with their respective wives and indulged in the deduction board game Mystery Express, which had a full review go up on the site on Monday.
• Dan continued the tabletop talk with a small primer on Monsterpocalypse with the recent addition of Voltron figures to this popular miniatures game. For the price you get a ton of shit in the box, and it's enough for two players to play a complete game with, no having to buy extra stuff unless you want to! Over on the video game side of things Dan talks up Lego Rock Band and Limbo, one's for kids and the other one is a creepy nightmare/dream puzzler. Try to guess which is which!
• Ryan thinks he's found the best way to play Monkey Island (and the rest of the LucasArts games) and it's.... on an iPad! I must say he makes some good arguments. He also went through the trials and hoops to play some Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker online and also tried to clue the rest of us in to the validity of HBO's True Blood. Not an easy task.

Ryan broke out his PSP, and once powering it back from the grave took a shot at the Patapon 3 multiplayer demo and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Then, since it's Wipeout.... Ryan ventures into the hell's den known as Sony Home to enjoy the new Wipeout Space. Dan talks about the enjoyment of not knowing how an MI game plays out as he checks out the new special edition Monkey Island 2 that came out last week. Then he and the wife enjoy the hell out of Lego Harry Potter. And no Dan list would be complete without a little tabletop action and this week it's Zombie Dice (full review on Friday!). Kevin jumped all up on some Back to the Future 2, and having never seen it before schooled us on some of the things that actually came true from it.

Kevin educates and astounds with tales of the Canon Wonder Cam concept. You'll never be out of focus or caught not smiling again! Dan brings info about the latest TF2 update as well as good news for Android phones as a gaming platform. Ryan brings the megaton topic this week that was the kerfluffle of Blizzard's toe dip into social networking and the forum riot that ensued. In the end we all agree on this one, it's a huge fucking mess that sadly isn't going to just go away. It's like BP took over Battle.net cleanup over here.

• This weeks spew kicks off with Dan talking about the long strange trip of Zach Anner since his submission to win a reality show from Oprah. He's got cerebral palsy and wants to do a travel show for people that never thought they could travel. Dude is funny as hell and once the video hit Reddit it spread to Digg, John Mayer and eventually 4chan, who decided to push him to the top of the heap. We heart the internet.
• The topic then swings around to talk about the new Harry Potter area of the Orlando based theme park Universal Islands of Adventure. If you're a Potterphile or an Amusement Park enthusiast (Dan is both) then it seems like a no-brainer to check this one out sooner rather than later. Expecto Patronum!
• Ryan then talks about iphones and shit.
• Kevin takes us into what can sometimes be the hairy proposition of a tech company reaching into your devices to delete apps or other data. On one hand it's a little scary privacy and ownership wise, but there's certainly something to be said for enjoying the walled garden.

So we get down on all the news coming out of the Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo press conferences. Now that's not all we talked about, in fact we covered a ton more!

• Dan - Wizard World Comic-Con Philadelphia, Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 with his normal friends and an all new "Encounters" session based in the world of Dark Sun at the local game shop, Joe Danger (PSN)
• Kevin - Joe Danger, Red Dead Redemption, End of Dexter Season 4
• Ryan - Finishing up Red Dead Redemption, Joe Danger, Split/Second demo, Super Stardust HD, Breaking Bad

Geek Spew 33:07 - 1:37:17 (Each of us brings a geek related news bit to the table to share and discuss, this week it's all about E3)

• Ryan kicks off this Marathon segment by taking us through the Sony E3 2010 press conference.
  • There was a big push for 3D games with games like Killzone 3 and Gran Turismo 5
  • Huge focus on Playstation Move with a lengthy demo of a game called Sorcery.
  • General confusion was the reaction to the PSN+ announcements not to mention Invizimals and a second season of The Tester.
  • An uneven showing seems to be the general consensus with major kudos for Portal 2, LittleBigPlanet2, Twisted Metal and of course the soon to be classic Kevin Butler speech.
  • The biggest metaton announcement was obviously Gabe Newell extolling the virtues of the PS3 and Portal 2 with Steamworks support.
  • New PSP ad campaign. Sure, why not?
  • Also, too many filler sizzle reels. This whole shebang took 2 hours and it felt like it.
  • We were all a little sad to not get any info about the HD remakes of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus
  • One of us is excited about the video store coming to Canada!
• Dan then walks us through the Microsoft press conference where much too much time was spend on Kinect.
  • Trailers for the new Call of Duty: Black Ops, Gears of War 3, Fable 3, Halo Reach and a new Metal Gear Solid game
  • The lion's share of the show involved waving and talking to your Xbox, and suits telling us how much better this all is without a controller.
  • You can have uncomfortable conversations with your twin sister with Kinect too!
  • A few game demos for Kinect followed that showed people in various stages of jumping around on stage like they were having a seizure
  • Skittles!
  • ESPN!
  • Also, there's a new Xbox.
• Kevin has the great honor of going through the Nintendo conference, which was far and away our favorite of the 3.
  • "The experience is the most important thing"
  • a problem plagued demo of the new Zelda: Skyward Sword
  • Announced Wii Party, Mario Sports, Just Dance 2, new Metroid, new Kirby, new Donkey Kong Country and other things that'll sell a bajillion copies
  • New Goldeneye that strangely inserts Daniel Craig into a Pierce Brosnen role
  • Epic Mickey was everything Dan wanted it to be and impressed everyone else. (I mention that Ozwald the Lucky Rabbit is the bad guy in the game, but I was mistaken. He plays the hero in the "wasteland" world. -Dan)
  • 3DS impressed us all, especially the no glasses part.
  • Kid Icarus!
