For some reason, it photographs much more orange than it is in real life. I think it's like photographing purples for me, they turn out blue and reds turn out orangey. Anywho, I'm surprised how much I like this polish. Just simple and classic. Also awesome that I got it on sale from London Drugs.

Two coats with topcoat. Applies very smooth with good pigmentation. Although it is a bit thick. Doesn't level out as nice and I would have hoped.

Obsession of the Moment: Coins. I love collecting coins. The Canadian Mint has come out with these collectible circulation coins to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Parks Canada. I think these coins are awesome. I just screen capped these off the Canadian Mint site. Check it, check it. And yes, we have coloured coins. Teehee!

Pink Me I'm Good is a Barbie pink jelly with gold glitter. I love the way this looks, but not on me. I just feel ridiculous wearing this. Like I should be a complete air head or something. I don't know why. Colours don't tend to get to me like that. Just pinks like this. *Facepalm*

Two coats with topcoat. You still see VNL, but I liked how it looked at just two coats. Applied well. The glitter goes on evenly, but it is slightly bumpy.

Funny of the Moment: I'm a bit amazed at how true each and every once of these truths are. Just hilarious. Hope you get a laugh out of it.
I'm so out of snow shovelling shape. Everything is sore. Lol, so sad. Anyhoodle, onto origami's pick.

A mousy purple, brown, and grey creme. When it comes to cataloguing colours like this, I never know where to put them. I just know I love'em.

Two coats and topcoat. Perfect application. Blame the bubbles on the top coat. I even really liked the brush on this one. Contours nicely to the curve of my cuticles and just made it super easy to apply.

Pic of the Moment: So recently I got sucked in by the entity that is Pinterest. There are just so many awesome, beautiful, and glorious things on there. For anyone interested, check out my Pinterest here.

This is one of the things I found on Pinterest and wanted to share. So cute. So geeky. Enjoy!

I always feel like I'm one of the only people in the world who like sheers. I just think they're so pretty. Well, the sparkly ones. 11 is a sheer pink polish with silver microglitter that flashes that lovely green and pink. I have pictures of the polish at one and two coats.

The bling-age increases at two coats.

Application was smooth. No major issues to report.

Pics of the Moment: My dad and I like to take walks in a ravine near our house. I have to admit, we're really lucky to have this green space so near our house. If you've been following me for a year or so, you've probably seen the various pictures I've taken of the area. So have some more! We saw some deer on our walk.

First we glimpsed.

Then we spotted this little guy trying to hide.

And then we were like, hey, where'd you come from?

Then we rounded the corner and went wow, this is so nice. So I snapped a pic.

I would say it's almost a jelly, but stays within the realm of creme. I really love this colour. Reminds me of the darkest part of the ocean. Also reminds me of Nicole by OPI In Your Hands, but more creme than jelly. Anyway, it didn't look this bad in real life. Sorry for the bad swatch.

Two coats with topcoat. I have a feeling this one is going to stain when I take it off, judging by my cuticles. So, highly pigmented. But slightly goopy formula. That could just be because my bottle is old though. Ended up with bald spots despite how dark it is. Probably because I'm lazy and never wait for one coat to dry before putting on the next.

Pic of the Moment: This is more of a shoutout for StBFF. She's got midterms right now so I just wanted to wish her good luck.
By the way, I've run out of picks. So if you guys wouldn't mind, going up to my What I'm Wearing Next AKA Pick My Polish page and picking something for me to wear, I would be ever so grateful.

GGG is a light green creme. It's probably a pastel, but I dunno, doesn't feel that way to me. Right after finishing this mani, I smudged the heck out of it trying to get my bottle of black shatter open. I had a serious rage-out as it was such a pain to apply. I spent the better part of a half hour trying to get it perfect. There might have been some screaming involved.

Three coats no topcoat. Like I said, it was a pain to apply. Even at three coats it's not perfect.

Pic of the Moment:

WARNING. Graphic close-ups of dead mosquito ahead.

As some of you may know, I hate mosquitoes. Absolutely hate them with a passion. I can be a bit of a bleeding heart about killing things sometimes. Like accidentally stepping on earthworms after it's rained. But not mosquitoes. The only thing I'd feel bad about if I managed to annihilate all mosquitoes is that a lot of bats wouldn't have anything to eat.

So I will admit, I got a bit giddy at finding this mosquito dead on my windowsill. I may have cackled. Well, ok, I totally cackled. So I took some pictures because how often are you going to get a chance to get photos like this? Please excuse the dust, I swear, it only looks that bad because these are extreme close-ups.

Definitely mousey. Really reminds me of delicious chocolate milk though. Especially since I like to water down my chocolate milk with white milk. Yum! And loving this colour. My pictures show it a little bit warmer than it actually is. But again, it changes colours depending on the lighting. Forgive my cuticles. I was baking before I did my nails so they were all sorts of dried out.

Two coats with topcoat. Applied like butter. Smooth and shiny. Definitely a fan of the formula.

Disclosure: Bought this polish with a sponsored gift card from Apothica.com.

Food of the Moment: I was baking cinnamon apple oatmeal cookies before I did my nails. I'd post the recipe, but it's not perfected yet. I improvised these cookies because I had an apple pie craving. They turned out tasting really good, but the texture's off. They kinda fell apart on me. I have to tweak bake time and how much flour I need. But when the recipe's good, I'll post it for you guys.
Hahaha.

This is terry's pick. Love Beverly Hills is a classic blue based red with gold shimmer. My collection has so many of these reds, but I love them so. Fantastic wa-bam colour.

Two coats. Applied like a dream. Well pigmented.

Now let me get rambly. I want to actually tell you guys the origin of the "of the Moment" series. When I first started this blog, I swore to myself that it would focus on nail polish and nothing else. Each and every post would have nail polish content no matter what. This is why I haven't done reviews of other random products. This blog is called Nail Polish Adventures after all. This was what I was passionate about, and this was why you guys were here. But as I invested more time and effort into NPA, I wanted to share more with you guys. You started to feel like family and this blog had become my own unique outlet to the rest of the world. This is why I created the "of the Moment" series at the end of each post. It was a place to share random little things that caught my fancy, pictures, stories, and anything I thought you guys might be interested in.

Random Review of the Moment: So I thought I would add random reviews of non-nail polish products. There are some products in my life that I just sort of love and would love to tell you about. I probably won't do this often, but hopefully, you guys will find this interesting.

Onto the review. There's probably one other beauty product that I can't get enough of. Lip balm. I know, weird. I don't wear any makeup, at all. But I love getting lip balm. I don't even know if you can call it a beauty product. Hahaha. Let me share my three favourites with you in no particular order.

Frilly Lilly Peppermint Lip Butter. I first mentioned this stuff back in October of last year. I didn't talk much about the lip butter though. Recently I developed a rash on my lips and they started peeling like nuts. I've got incredibly sensitive skin that will randomly react to things. Yeah, totally sucks and gross. But anyway, the 99 cent stick lip balm I was using didn't do anything to sooth my poor lips. So I pulled out my trusty Frilly Lilly Peppermint Lip Butter. I love this stuff because it's super hydrating and protective without a waxy build-up. It just slides on and is really soothing on chapped lips. I'm also a huge sucker for minty things. The only thing I hate about it is the fact that it comes in a little pot and I'm forced to dip my fingers in it to put it on my lips. This is why this stays home when I can wash my hands before I use it. If they could put this in a stick form, I'd be all over it like white on rice. I put it on every morning and every night before bed. Another thing about this lip butter is that it will really harden in cooler temperatures and melt in the heat of summer. Even though it stays home where the temperature is mostly regulated. Probably because it's all just natural oils and waxes. Bonus is that this is a local Calgary brand. (Ingredients: Sunflower oil, beeswax, carnuba wax, olive oil, avocado oil, kokum butter, jojoba oil, flavour)

LaNatura Vitamin E & Aloe Shea Butter Lip Balm. This is probably tops in my lip balm arsenal. I only recently bought this from skinbotanica.com, who is one of my sponsors, and I love it. I would definitely get this again and multiple ones as backups and for each and every purse. When you look at it, you'd think it'd be waxy, but when you put it on your lips, it just slides on and melts into oils that just absorb into your lips leaving them feeling nice and soft. This is also the lip balm that sits in my purse and goes everywhere with me because it comes in stick form so even if my hands are dirty, I can still use it without getting all germaphobe. This lip balm also comes in a bunch of different flavours, but I opted for the one that has just about no scent. I think next time, I'll give the other flavours a try. Bonus is that this is nice and wide so that I can cover my lips in a couple quick swipes. (Ingredients: Vitamin E, Aloe Vera Oil, Organically Grown Shea Butter Fruit, Beeswax, Sesame Seed Oil, Borage Oil, Macadamia Nut Oil, Avocado Oil, Wheat Germ Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Vitamin C)

LypSyl Honey rose Lip Balm. I didn't link to any place online for this one because I totally got it at the dollar store. If you do a search, I'm sure you can find a place to get it. But I got it for $1.25 CAD. I don't even remember what the dollar store was called. But it was an awesome purchase. Super moisturizing with some shimmer. This is about as close as I'll get to wearing lip gloss. I kicked the gloss habit a while ago and haven't gone back. I couldn't stand the sticky feeling. With this lip balm, I can get the shiny look without the gooey all over my lips feeling. It also smells like pink lemonade. (Ingredients: Mideral oil, petrolatum, paraffin, hydrogenated coconut oil, ceresin, beeswax, flavor, organic shea butter, vitamin E acetate, Vitamin A Palmitate, titanium dioxide, silica, mica, tin oxide, calcium aluminum borosilicate)

So glad she picked this. I had forgotten I owned this polish. It was from the 2010 Wonderland Collection. Thanks to Kaz at Pretty Random for getting this for me. I asked her to get me one for StBFF too. StBFF was so excited when she got it that she swatched it on a styrofoam plate. Which it ate through. Lol. It's B3F but it sure does smell toxic.

Now onto the polish. Down the Rabbit Hole is a smokey black jelly with silver holographic glitter. Because it's a jelly it never hits full on black black. But it has good depth and shows off the glitter well. I really like it. It's a nice soft black which I think works better with my skin. For those who really want that sparkly black look, I would suggest a coat of black to start with.

Three coats with topcoat. The glitter isn't chunky at all. And the polish is very shiny and smooth on its own. After the first coat, I was thinking, this is not getting anywhere near the bottle colour. But at three coats, it looked pretty good.

Wicked awesome glorious baking equipment of the moment: My friend, Andrea, just completely out of the blue gave me this huge professional cupcake carrier that holds 36 cupckes. I was so surprised and happy I actually started crying at their house. It was a bit embarrassing. But look at this glorious thing!!!

You think I'm hot, well I think you're even hotter. *Wink*

That's right, I just totally flirted with my nail polish. Lol. I like. I likey very much. Especially the glowy-in-the-centre-dark-at-the-edges-ness.

Two coats with topcoat. Very well pigmented. Went on awesome and smooth. No application issues at all.

Pic of the Moment: My friend came back from his trip to Guatemala with these. Greatest and worst thing to find in your purse after you get back from the washroom. They're BBQ flavoured and everything. I did not eat them nor do I plan to. Lol.

Light purple holographic shimmer. Hello perdy. I found this beauty in a clearance basket for $5.
I regret not getting more. The one thing I hate about DS polishes is the fact that their names have nothing to do with their colours. So it's just about impossible to remember which is which. My pic is a lil' blurry to show the awesome holo-ness.

Three coats no topcoat. The first coat is quite sheer, but builds nicely. Super smooth formula, just wish it were more pigmented.

Pic of the Moment: My hockey team is the Calgary Flames. It's the only team I cheer for and when I saw these two Hello Kitties, I totally flipped. So awesome. A friend of mine had made them for another friend. I love how he made both home and away jerseys.

Gawgeous. *Wub*

Two coats with top coat. I think if I were more careful, I totally would have gotten away with just one coat. Fantastic pigmentation. Smooth application. Glorious.

Pic of the Moment: So last week I was Chicago visiting family. As it was my first ever trip down in the States, I hauled nail polish like nuts. Hahaha. Here's a pic of my haul. Half of it's for StBFF. And notice my multiple Poshes. So happy I have a backup stash as I don't have access to them at home.

I got to try the famous Chicago deep dish pizza while I was down there. Pretty good, but not as great as I think I hyped it up to be. Also tried Popeye's. I will admit, that's some good chicken and I crave more.

Whoo! This is what you wear to get noticed. I totally picked this colour because it was the last week of my contract and I wanted to leave an impression. Also, one of my coworkers is very conservative when it comes to nail colour and I just wanted to kinda rub something ridiculously obnoxious in her face. Hahaha. I'm a brat. But this colour is so fun. Hello summer!

Three thick coats with topcoat. Coverage is not bad. Still spotty though. Neons never seem to apply very well. And as a neon, it also dries matte, so have that topcoat handy.

Pic of the Moment: Have a blurry cupcake pic! And check out the army of cupcakes in the background. This is a crummy cell phone pic. Sorry homies.

Katie is absolutely crazy. And she's totally hilarious. But I don't think I could watch more than one episode. Putting together Canada's Sports Hall of Fame was the most stressful project I've ever undertaken. It was so stressful that I felt sick just about everyday for months. It always seemed like whatever could go wrong always went wrong. I was reminded of this while watching the Nail Files. I couldn't take the stress and drama. Also, I don't watch TV, so this was like jumping into crazy with no buffer.

I also watched it with StBFF and her boyfriend. StBFF wished there was more content on how she developed colours and just general nail polish content. I agree with her. But SfBFF's BF was like yeah, it's pretty good. The full spectrum here. Hahaha.

Now onto the nail polish. The Painted Nail by Nubar Katie Sparkles. Dude, silver glitter bomb. Holy cow the bling-age. Medium sized silver glitter in a clear base.

Three coats no topcoat. This is pretty packed with glitter. I would say you could have even gotten away with just two thick coats. But I had a couple annoying bald patches so I decided on a third.

Next up is my favourite. The Painted Nail by Nubar Mestiza. A gorgeous acid yellow foil. I know the words acid yellow and gorgeous probably don't fit in the same sentence, but they totally do here. Yellow is one of my favourite colours. Second only to green. I go on at length about my love for yellow here if you're interested on hearing my opinion on the subject. Lol. But anyway, Mestiza has a bit of a lime green flash to it which lends to the acidness. Omg, I love it. If only I could pull off this colour. This colour was named by Vanessa Hudgens, I believe.

Three coats with topcoat. I would say again, probably good at two but I used three just to see if the colour would be more intense. I don't think it got anymore intense, but the third coat covered up my VNL a little bit more.

Samples and the first episode of Nail Files were sent to me for review by the PR company.

Pic of the Moment: WARNING. IMAGE OF SPIDER BELOW.

My policy with spiders is based on the idea, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." They help me in my war with mosquitoes, therefore they are good people. So when I find a spider, it's all about the catch and release. As long as I don't see them in my home, I'm totally a-ok with them.

I caught this bugger a couple weeks ago. Usually I keep an old candle holder and postcard on hand for situations such as this. He was a fast little thing.

Two coats with base coat. Great formula. Almost perfect at one coat, but I added the second just in case.

Early in my nail polish obsession, I wanted this polish but couldn't justify the price. I found it sometime early this year, if I can remember correctly, for not too bad a price and picked it up. So happy I did, long time lemming fulfilled! Don't you love those?

Two coats with topcoat. Went on smooth with nothing to note in terms of application.

Noms of the Moment: As some of you may know, I love to bake. Mostly I stick to cookies. But every once in a while I'll branch out.

Coconut Cupcakes. Some with shredded coconut on top and some without. I was super happy with how these turned out. I actually don't really like coconut myself, but I must admit, these were good.

Bacon Quiche. These were so unbelievably good. I mean how can you go wrong with eggs and bacon? And so super easy. Mine don't look very good, though. I swear, tasted way better than they looked.

Jade is a slightly muted forest green creme. Apologies for the bubbles. I was at the end of my bottle of poshe. It almost seems like I'm always at the end of my bottle. *Sigh*

Two coats with topcoat. No application issues.

For anyone down in the States who might be interested in Joe Fresh, you'll be happy to hear they're opening their first store south of the border. So far just in New York. But they've got big plans.

Pic of the Moment: My coworkers gave me this tshirt for my Birthday. Absolutely hilarious. They wrote their names on the peeps. The middle one is Gladys written upside down.

I love this purely for the simple beauty of the colour. I love cremes. Actually, I think I'm an equal opportunity finish lover. Except for bar glitter, just never liked bar glitter.

Three coats without topcoat. I needed the third coat because of some mistakes, but it's fine as two coats. I did find the formula runny though.

"Nail Art" of the Moment: One of my favourite combinations for Dating a Royal is to put a coat of Essie Amalfi on top of it. Amalfi is a sheer gold and I love how when you look at the combination head on, you see gold, but its still blue. You could probably get the same result if you tried it with China Glaze White Cap. Although this time around, I was craving simple and I wish I had left Dating a Royal as is without modification.

This is the Canmake glitter again over top of Sally Hansen Jade. Oh I love this glitter. So fun. I've totally got a case of lobster fingers going on here, but that was just because of the low light, I believe. The glitter pops ever so well out of direct light. *Sigh* So awesome. I like it so much I've worn it for two manicures now.
Who also happened to have bought this for me. Thankya, dear.

Moon Shadow is a medium purple/golden brown duochrome with darkened edges. Nubar knows how to do duochromes.

Three coats with topcoat. Application was very smooth. And at two coats I had full coverage, but for full depth of colour, three coats was best.

Random Story of the Moment: So up in Canada we have this huge donut and coffee chain called Tim Hortons. It's a bit culty up here because 1) it was started by a hockey player, 2) it's Canadian so we hold it dear to us. Tim Hortons was what I survived on during university. If I can remember correctly, there were three of them at school. I consumed copious amounts of their coffee (usually I drank a double double, which is a shortened form of double sugar, double cream or something called an Iced Capp which was really just syrup and cream) and baked goods (lots of bagels and cream cheese and chicken salad sandwiches). The amount I consumed was disgusting and I gained so much weight. I also think I may have overdosed on it because I rarely have it now.

But onto my story. Some time during my university career there was sudden talk of a coffee called a Gretzky. Nine cream. Nine sugar. For those not familiar with hockey, 99 was the number Wayne Gretzky wore. So of course, I had to try this. Now that I think back on it, I'm pretty sure my decision making ability was completely impaired by lack of sleep.

Oh was the Gretzky ever awful. I remember when I ordered it, they had no idea what it was, so I had to tell them. And then when they finished making it, the girl asked me if I wanted her to put it in the microwave to warm it. I was like why would you need it nuked, isn't the coffee warm? Turns out the majority of it was cold cream and sugar. Oh my goodness, it was like a cup of cream and sugar with coffee as a very minor flavouring. The first sip actually wasn't too bad because it was like very sweet cream, but each sip after got worse and worse. Especially since a lot of the sugar didn't dissolve so ended up on the bottom of the cup. It's one of those things that I look back on and I just wonder why.

Well, technically, she picked the base, and then I ended up smudging the heck out of the mani when I was doing cleanup before the glitter so there's no pic of 556 alone. Sorry Madame jbrobeck.

This is the awesomest mani evar. Hahaha. 556 is an indigo creme. I found it a bit boring by itself so I slapped a coat of the glitter top coat that my friend Stacey sent me from Japan. Which has no name, but I'm going to assume the number is 17 because that's what's on the back. The glitter is composed of small round green glitter, medium round orange glitter, and large hex iridescent glitter. I couldn't properly capture it, but in real life, the glitter just pops against the dark indigo polish that is 556. I also apologize for the sad and sorry state of my hands. This was taken right after I had been working in a gross and dry warehouse.

Three coats of 556, one coat glitter, and one coat topcoat. 556 required three coats for full opacity. I also had issues with application. I have no idea why, but it just wouldn't go where I wanted it to. I ended up doing a lot of clean up around the cuticle, something I usually don't bother with because most mistakes are minor. But not this time. Maybe I was just having a "speshul" sort of day. The glitter applied well. Good even coverage.

Pic of the Moment: This is a closeup of a bow I made for a present I wrapped for a friend years ago. I was really happy with the way it turned out and dubbed it the golden gift.
I don't wear perfume or use fabric softener for this reason. I just can't stand the scent. And I hate women who wear too much perfume. Same goes for men. Small spritz is good. Please do not bathe in it. I also can't stand scented polish. But I had to buy this one because it was so pretty. I might regret it, but darn, is it ever pretty.

Not So Blueberry is a light purple/blue duochrome with pretty blue and purple shimmer. Lovely. Sadly, I can't pull off light colours like this. I end up with a case of lobster hands. The scent is also quite strong. That first day, I could smell it even while I was typing, but the strength decreases quickly after the first day. Anyhow, my pictures turned out way too blue. The polish is purple when you're looking at it head on and is blue on the edges or at an angle. In the second pic the pinky is probably the most accurate.

Two coats with topcoat. Really good application. I was surprised how thin the brush was, but it was easy to control and applied well.

Pic of the Moment: Not much else to share for today. So... Have some cute foxie. I think the colouring in this picture matches the nail polish.
I want to have its babies. They'll be beautiful green polish babies. I can't get over how magnificent this polish is.

Two coats with topcoat. The only downside is that because it's a jelly, it's not perfect at two coats. I applied it in relatively low light and didn't realize I had a some patchiness. Next time I would make sure to apply three coats. I would say the extra coat is worth it for the colour though. Or waiting more time between coats. But we all know I'm not capable of waiting.
Today's my Birthday. Happy Birthday to me! Hahaha. I actually wrote this post about a month before you're going to read it. (I've been backlogging posts so that I consistently have something to post because I love y'all just that much. Just sayin'.) Atlantis probably would have been the perfect Birthday polish, but alas, I didn't time it right. C'est la vie. There will always be something else to wear. Anyhow, here's Katie's pick.

Atlantis is the polish embodiment of Atlantis. It's this glorious watery turquoise polish loaded with silver and holographic glitter. Blingtacular. Oh this is ever so unprofessional, but who cares? Hahaha. I couldn't stop looking at it at work. Heck, anywhere, for that matter. I purposely blurred out the second photo so you can see how it just goes nuts in the light and how I happened to see it because I don't wear my glasses as long as I can get away with it so everything is usually a little blurry to me.

Three coats with top coat. It started off quite sheer, but at three coats you have pretty good coverage. You'll still see slight VNL though. Also make sure to wear topcoat. It was a bit dull without and it's bumpy as heck. But the problem with applying a thick coat of topcoat on top of three already thick coats of glitter is that it chips much too quick. By the next day I already had two large chips. And at the second day, I had my entire left index finger chip off in one sheet.

On the third day we were downstairs in the collections with the design team working on mounts for artefacts, when I looked down, my entire left middle finger had chipped off. I was wondering where it popped off when my co-worker found it. Beside an artefact. In a mock-up case. It was the funniest and grossest thing ever. Hahaha. So yes, next time, I'll probably put on a coat of green polish first and then slap on a couple coats of Atlantis, instead.

Song of the Moment: Until recently I had never heard of Adele. I don't think the radio stations I listen to in Calgary play her. But my friend recommended her and I've been absolutely hooked on this song. I love the heavy driving drums. *Bobs around in my chair to the song*
