MacOS: shortcut to move windows (sort of like Linux)

Open a terminal and fire this command:

# defaults write -g NSWindowShouldDragOnGesture -bool true

Log out. Log in.

Now you can move the windows by:

ctrl + command + drag with the mouse

I needed this because in a two screen set up the windows would hide the bar, so they could not be dragged. In Linux this is a standard feature. Now you can do the same on MacOS.

Duckduckgo could not load, delete data etc.

I tried to reinstall several times, but that did not work.

I removed the app manually in /apps/ - and installed the browser via brew:

# brew install duckduckgo

Then everything worked again.

When two users are logged in at the same time the system lags. The amount of RAM is probably the issue. If that's the case:

By now upgrading seems impossible. The distro has reached "end of life". However the next release is not available. Many users have the same issue. I tried:

And the GUI "Software Update" did not work either. I'll just wait a week or two and see.

Since a lot of users have the same issue I've made a formal bug report for Ubuntu.

Ekspedient: "Du skal scanne varerne ind der"

Giver op.
Går til betalingsterminalen igen og betaler med mit dankort.

Kort sagt: Appen er spild af tid, for nu at sige det lidt pænt.

Og det er synd for COOPs personale, når kunde efter kunde ikke kan finde ud af jeres app. Det er ikke kunden som er problemet. Det er en dåligt konstrueret app. Er produktet brugertestet?

I could not log on from the app.

What an incompetent app.

The setup took me around 45 minutes ... whith idotic blocs like "too many log in attempts" - hell yes I could not log in and tried again. From the app the set up was virtually impossible.

However, I could log on and change old settings on the website.

Then I could use the app ... which feels very cumbersome.

Now the only thing missing is: the phone must be approved.

After yet another research I found out that the message probably ment: "since you are using mobile pay, you don't have to register the phone".

Have they tested this process? Or whethter the letters make sense?

However, there are no instructions as to how to do that ...

This is insane.

Now I will try out the app in the store ... I expect it to work like a breeze.

In the store
Well, I could not figure out how to use the thing. I scanned what I tried to buy on the self-pay-machine. Then a QR-code came with the text: try to pay via the app. That seemed ok. I used the QR, but could not pay.

I asked a coop-employee what to do. She suggested that I could scan the groceries again in the app and then pay. No thank you.

I payed via my creditcard.

Later on I tried in another shop. They told me that I had to scan a printed QR hanging in the shop and then use the app to pay.

O so cumbersome - what a waste of precious time.

After an update an unwanted notification distractor is placed on the log in screen. In my oppinion such a distractor is ok for those who want it. But it is unacceptable that you have to do this in order to turn it off.

Open settings.
Lock Screen and AOD
Now bar: turn whatever off you don't want to see

Dear #Samsung: please stop this behavior!

Problem: every time I put on my Bluetooth headphones "Apple Music" starts - and sometimes it will even play music. This is most annoying.

Follow the instructions from noTunes, here.

Install NoTunes via brew:

# brew install --cask notunes

Open: Settings / General

Under "Open at login" click the + below and add "noTunes".

Try to install pulseaudio Bluetooth:

Ubuntu's standard settings do not work out of the box. I ran the command and now everything seems to work - with lots of sound options.

The MacBook Air will often freeze when I use an external screen along side with Outlook. On Microsoft's page I've seen that it's a socalled "known problem". They give this advice:

Update your software
Try to downgrade Office
Update Office (!!)
Use another screen resolution on the external screen

By now I try the last option.

When I teach there is a similar problem with (not so)-Clevershare. Perhaps the solution is the same: use a somewhat smaller screen resolution.

On my newly installed Ubuntu VSC's letters were too small. The settings in Ubuntu were tweaked and now they work all right. But VSC had it's own way of dispaying the windows.

After some duckduckgoing I found the solution: set the window zoom level to 2.

Perhaps this setting is usefull in other programs too?

What works:

Run Tidal / Music / Radio etc. on your TV - on the remote choose one of the options under "Music" (not "Watch TV")
Hold down the "start" key till you hear a beep on other multiroom devices.
Now you'll hear the music on these devices.

TV does not work - a workaround

You cannot hear the sounds from the TV
However there is a workaround: Watch TV on the internet on a PC or similar. Share the sound via the PC to the TV (or one of the other multiroom devices)

Bye Windows. Hello dear Ubuntu!
Installed Ubuntu and ditched Windows completely.

The installation was easy, however on one of the first boots Bluetooth was not detected. The day after it worked, somehow ... The rest is moving data from my nine year old Ubuntu Server to Minisforum.

Minisforum came with Windows preinstalled. I opened Windows just to have a sneak peak, but I'm not a Windows fan. The installations is a nightmare. Spyware and payed solutions all over the place. During installation I dropped the Windows option, and installed Ubuntu on the system. Nope, Windows is not for me at all.

Boot Disk
I bought a usb-stick and formatted it on my work-Mac.

The usb-sticl was FAT32 formatted, so the only thing to do was to burn the Ubuntu-iso. Here I followed the recipe above, downloaded Etcher and booted from the stick.

How to boot from the install disk
Press F7 several times during boot. Now you'll get the option to try or install Ubuntu. I tried and ran the install.

Now what's system-wise. Everything seems to be up and running. No swap used here and now, however the only thing running is music via Tidal in a chrome-browser and a terminal.

Ubuntu: todo

Update backup on old system
cp backup to Minisforum "Valhalla"
Tidal - run it from app rather than browser ... how?
Install stuff like "Oh my zsh"
Buy new keyboard and mouse
Mount on the back of a monitor or movable system?

I'll probably just use the system as is - and install whatever is missing along the way. After a month or so I'll probably have a system with whatever I use.

Verdict so far
Ubuntu more or less ran out of the box.

I have no words. It's insane.

I have answered this email, and hope that it works. However the links in the email was yet another dead end. Waste of time.

How to use GPG - basic sample code

GPG: Show the stored password in the terminal

Send the content of the file to std out (-o):

# gpg -d -o - mySecrets.gpg

GPG: Encrypt a file

# gpg --encrypt --recipient recipient@example.com file.txt

The command will create the file file.gpg - and of course the file with the secret message must be deleted.

For some reason pass can't encrypt and decrypt files on my MacBook Air. However gpg can.

Should I just ditch the old beloved pass?

Well, at least that is my conclusion. Why use a corrupt interface for gpg when gpg works fine?
