Perseid Meteor Shower August 2012 Timelapse HD

Timelapse footage of the Perseid Meteor Shower from August 12th 2012! You can get moonrise times via this custom sunset calendar. As seen from around the world, the waning crescent moon will rise later on August 12 than on August 11, and, on the morning of August 13, although you're slightly past the peak, the moon will rise later still. On any of those mornings, moonlight shouldn't be so overwhelming as to ruin the show. Plus the moon on those mornings will be near the bright planets Venus and Jupiter in the eastern predawn sky. It'll be a beautiful early morning scene. The Perseids are typically fast and bright meteors. They radiate from a point in the constellation Perseus the Hero. You don't need to know Perseus to watch the shower because the meteors appear in all parts of the sky. The Perseids are considered by many people to be the year's best shower, and often peak at 50 or more meteors per hour in a dark sky. The Perseids tend to strengthen in number as late night ...

Pleiades, Jupiter, The Moon, Venus, & Perseid Meteor Timelapse

2012-10-01T04:16:00.001-07:00

Fooling around with my 50mm lens I got a fair line up of some good stuff. First, the Pleiades make an introduction, followed quickly by Jupiter and one of it's moons, then Our own neighborly Moon, followed by Venus and a Perseid Meteor or two who didn't want to be left out. I got some trailing from the stars and so might try again tonight and drop the shutter release down to 15 seconds...also maybe up the F/stop a lil to compromise on the planetary lighting versus stars. It's fun to play around and see what you get. August 13, 2012 12:30 am - 4:00 am Canon T3i 50mm Lens 20 second Shutter f/3.5 ISO 1600

2012 Perseid meteor shower August 12, 2012 from George and David's on Cavedale Road above the Sonoma Valley. NOTiCE after the largest and brightest meteor what appears to be a puff of smoke is released behind the tail... what this actually is is the vaporized meteor material - what the tiny rock that hit the atmosphere turned into when it got so hot that it just shredded apart - which was in a straight line, just like the light trail the burning meteor created until the winds of the upper atmosphere slowly blow it into a warped 's' shaped pattern and dissapate it into nothing. It appears as a puff of smoke because I animated the hundreds of images at 24 frames per second, so what in real life took 5 or six minutes is sped up to happen in a split second. Apparently the light from the towns of the Sonoma Valley are illuminating the disintegrating vapor trail. 30 sec exposures with a Canon 7D, intervalometer firing the shutter every 40 seconds. Shot 650 frames from 11pm to 4:30am, 14 contained meteor trails.

Perseid Meteor Shower Time Lapse Test

2012-09-24T16:00:00.001-07:00

I'm still working on getting a good time lapse. This was just a test during the Perseid Meteor Shower. The cars driving by lit up the sky which kinda ruined the "beauty" but like I said it was a test. Shot with Nikon D7000

Time-lapse Photography: Stars-Perseid Meteor Shower 2012

2012-09-22T10:00:00.001-07:00

Time-lapse Photography taken August 11th-13th 2012 during the Perseids Meteor Shower. Photographed at Echo Lake and Chinns Lake, Colorado. The meteors can be very easy to miss in a time-lapse video, they only appear for a fraction of a second. Some light streaks in the video are planes, but there are about 60 meteors visible in this video. Shot with a Canon 5D Mk II and 7D.

The Perseid meteor shower was visible from the UK last night - I managed to capture a few shooting stars, but don't blink or you'll miss them! Also, don't get fooled by the aeroplane on one exposure, bottom right quadrant. This is made from 94 stills shot with a Canon 60D, mix of 30s and 15s exposures. See a still shot here: www.flickr.com

SKYVIEWS PLANETS ALIGN & PERSEID METEOR SHOWER THIS WEEKEND

2012-09-19T23:00:00.001-07:00

SKYVIEWS AUGUST 7-8, 2012 PLANETS ALIGN THIS WEEKEND: The Moon, Venus, and Jupiter are lining up in the eastern sky this weekend--right in the middle of the Perseid meteor shower. PERSEID METEOR SHOWER RAMPING UP FOR PEAK THIS WEEKEND August 8, 2012 A bright triangle hunkers low in the west-southwest as night falls over the next few evenings. Its top point is the planet Saturn, with the star Spica to its lower left and the planet Mars to its lower right. August 9, 2012 The star cluster M11 is in the south this evening, in the small constellation Scutum, the shield. Because its brightest stars look like a flock of ducks, it's also called the Wild Duck cluster. Through binoculars, it looks like a patch of mist; a backyard telescope reveals hundreds of stars. One of the most pleasant treats on a warm summer night is to lie out under a starry sky and try to see a few shooting stars, or meteors. Luckily, right now is a great time to try to see meteors in the night sky. Any night this week you will have a good chance of seeing the annual Perseid meteor shower. These objects are tiny bits of rock and debris from an old comet, which is named Swift-Tuttle after the astronomers who discovered it in 1862. Every year in early August, Earth passes through the comet Swift-Tuttle's orbit and sweeps up some of this debris. As the tiny rocks encounter the thin upper atmosphere of the Earth, the air is heated to incandescence and we see a rapid streak of light. While you can see the ...

Perseid Meteor Shower Attempt (Time Lapse)

2012-09-16T16:15:00.001-07:00

Captured images of the eastern sky every few seconds for several hours in hopes of capturing a comet during the 'high point' of the Perseid Meteor Shower. Slim pickings, I'm afraid - Too close to Toronto, I suppose (the glow to the right). Fun time lapse, though. The clouds look to be a fluid here.
