USAA plans to offer this feature on other phones later in the year. They might be a small bank, but it seems to be quite innovative as it had introduced the option of depositing a scanned copy of the check three years back.

Apple might not be making a lot of money from the iPhone App Store (if you compare it to the money, they make selling the iPhone hardware), but it is iPhone Apps like these that will add to iPhone's appeal and be one of the sticky factors.

Google team showed off a few extensions for their new communication platform. One of the most interesting ones, though, was Twave, a Twitter extension for Google Wave. The integration makes sense: Google Wave and Twitter are both forms of real-time communication, so why not bring them together? The result, though, speaks to the potential applications of Google’s newest product.

Twave is an extension based on a Google Wave robot, which is an automated participant in a conversation. It is basically how an extension can perform tasks within Google Wave – in this instance, a Google robot, named “Tweety.” The result is a full stream of your Twitter feed within Google Wave. Not only can you see tweets, but it looks like you can manage them like you would email, with replies, archiving, and even Google Wave’s awesome playback feature.

There were several other great extensions and robots that were demonstrated today. Here’s just a few of the coolest ones:

- Debuggy: A robot that responds with debugging information about each event on a wave

- Stocky: Automatically detects stock quotes and provides real-time stock information

- Bloggy: Pushes wave content to a blog

- Maps: Allows for collaboration on a Google map to plan events

- Bidder: You can turn a Wave into your own eBay

- Ratings: All Wave participants can rate and review items – then it will show you a tally of the results.

These innovations are only the beginning of the many additions that developers will build for Google Wave. MMS on iPhone 2G

The non-availability of the MMS feature for 1st generation iPhone (iPhone 2G) was probably one of the most disappointing news for iPhone 2G users that was announced at the WWDC 2009 Keynote address.

In fact, the MMS feature is not available currently to even iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS in the US. Some folks had figured out a way to enable MMS on iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS.

Fortunately, it turns out that there is a way to also enable MMS on a jailbroken iPhone 2G.

Step 1: Launch Cydia by clicking on the Cydia App

Step 2: Once Cydia loads, go to the Search option at the bottom right.

Step 3: Now type in ActiveMMS2G in the Search box in order to find this application

Step 4: Once you find the application, click on the Install button and then Confirm button at the top right corner

Step 5: This will install the application on your iPhone 2G. Once the installation is complete, press the Reboot Device button in order to restart your iPhone.

Step 6: Go to Settings > Messages. And make sure the MMS Messaging option is set to On.

Step 7: After your iPhone has restarted, Press Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network.
Under the Cellular Data Network you should be able to see a new MMS Settings option. ActiveMMS2G will ENABLE the MMS feature on the 3.0 firmware. It will NOT input the correct settings for your carrier.

Step 8: Under the MMS Settings, fill up the required values. Remember, every network provider will have different values to be entered. Therefore MMS will only work once the correct carrier settings are set.

Following is how the MMS Settings page for a T-mobile customer in US will look like. You can also click here to view the information.

Step 9: Once done. click on the Network button at the top-left and then click on the Home button to go to the Home Screen. Now Turn OFF your iPhone 2G and then Turn it ON.

Step 10: Now, open the native SMS App on your iPhone and you should be able to see a camera icon right beside the text box.

Step 11: Click on that Camera icon. You can either take a photo or press the Choose Existing button.

Step 12: This should display the smaller version of the photo selected by you inside the message box.

Step 13: Well, that's about it. Your should be able to send and receive pictures by using the MMS feature on your iPhone 2G.

Why is Apple trying to prevent you from bookmarking the Google website?

Safari 4 browser that Apple announced at their Worldwide Developers Conference is perhaps labelled as the fastest browser in the world, with its perfect 100% score on the Acid 3 test. However here is a conspiracy that you will get revealed to when adding the bookmarks manually instead of importing them. Just try to add Google Search. Instead of adding Google to the bookmarks, Safari will pop a weird message on you.
Google is the only search engine Safari does this to. You can add Yahoo Search and Bing without any notices. When you do a search on Google.com, Google gets all the money from those sponsored results on the right side of the page. However, if you do what Safari recommends and do your Google search by using the Safari search field, Apple gets a cut from the revenue generated by those sponsored links. The Google search box built into the FireFox browser I think makes over $100 million a year. However, FireFox doesn’t warn their users when they try to bookmark Google. Just imagine how much they’ll be making if they do what Apple does and tell users to do their searches with the browser search field instead of at Google.com?

QLOG musings for effective SEO

I came across amyafrica.com which is a decent site for getting interesting information on various topics and asking the questions and Amy and the audience at large answering them. Its a mix of bullentin board and blog and also has several free tips and twitter updates regularly posted on the site.

I liked the post on SEO on http://www.amyafrica.com where they have explained the difference between Organics versus PPC in the layman's terms by simply citing the example that Rome was not built in a day. I am sure that QLOG will eventually build a web empire that is even bigger than Roman empire and now is the time where you can contribute to its growth by visiting QLOG and showing up your support.

I can give the testimony that QLOG has helped me increase my site traffic without spending a fortune and gave me a ton of ideas on how to improve the effectiveness of my homepage by creating a more efficient shopping cart and checkout process. There are some articles that can give you ideas on how you can boost sales dramatically with aggressive email marketing. Its a great tool for simplified reporting and performance measurements as well.

Right now, the QLOG is about a month old so there aren't a ton of posts. But they are doing a phenomenal job of adding about 2-3 posts a week about everything from analytics, conversion, creative, and email marketing,to navigation, SEO/SEM, shopping carts, and other topics of interest. As promised on QLOG, there are also also be guest posters on various topics so users can hear from other experts in the field.

Faster Processor and RAM in iPhone 3G S

When Apple announced iPhone 3G S at the WWDC 2009 Keynote address, they mentioned that it was the fastest iPhone they had ever created.

But they didn’t provide us any details of the processor speed or increase in RAM I thought we might have to await until June 19 when iPhone 3G S will be officially available.

We might not have to wait that long as T-Mobile.nl has posted some technical specs about iPhone 3G S revealing that the third generation iPhone comes with a faster 600 MHz processor and 256MB of RAM. This is cool.

This video is from the John Chow collections. Remember the movie The Fast and The Furious Tokyo Drift? OK, you probably don’t because it’s a very forgetful movie. Well, the drifting in Tokyo has got nothing on the display of driving skills being put on by Ken Block in this Gymkhana Two video. That is simply some of the most amazing driving I have ever seen.
Judging by all the skid marks on the Port of Los Angeles (where the video was filmed), I doubt this was done in one take. I’m sure they went though several sets of tires and maybe a clutch or two. Still, it’s one hell an amazing piece of driving. If offered an opportunity, I’m not sure I would want to be Ken’s passenger. To get the best view, watch the video in HD.

Pay to redownload iPhone Apps in iPhone OS 3.0?

iPhoneDocked tweeted that he was asked to 'purchase' an app while trying to redownload it. Other developers have also reported similar behavior on iPhone OS 3.0 beta, while trying to redownload apps.

Redownloading iPhone apps is a very common practice among iPhone users, I have deleted and redownloaded iPhone apps many times. The current App Store FAQ states that the user does not have to pay twice for redownloading but the new message could mean that Apple is looking to introduce this change with iPhone OS 3.0.
