I say it is the other way, first Be successful in your mind, then do the things so you can have the luxury home and car.  You must first be successful in your mind.  This goes for anything you want in life.  The &#39;Be&#39;ing comes first.  To have a wonderful marriage, you must first BE the perfect partner in you mind.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One of the concepts I got from the book &#39;Think and Grow Rich&#39; was that nothing in this world just happens, first someone must think about it.  You don&#39;t just go out and build a house.  First there are ideas of what the house should look like, floor plan, etc.  Then someone make drawings and plans for building the house.  The same goes for your life.  First think and be what you want, successful entrepreneur, great marriage, wonderful parent, etc.  Then write it down, just thinking is not enough.  This is where writing a journal is so helpful.  Writing in a journal helps to focus on what your goals and helps to clarify your thoughts.  I remember reading somewhere that writing is a mental exercise it helps with getting your thoughts  into your subconscious mind. by John Milton Fogg</title><content type='html'>I like instructional books that are written as a story.  It seems to make the reading easier.  I don&#39;t know I am reading and learning.  This book is about a network marketer that was about to quit when he meets The Greatest Networker in the World (GNW).  He spends the weekend with GNW and learns a lot about himself, and the network marketing business.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One of the things that stood out for me was when GNW talked about how network marketers will put down other network marketing companies.  This hurts the whole network marketing industry.  People here this and think &#39;Why would I want to be in network marketing&#39;.  I might think that my opportunity is the best in the world, but I will not put down, or insult other companies.  One reason is that not every opportunity is the best for everyone.  Each individual person needs to decide if the opportunity is right for them, and that might not be mine.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On of the techniques I liked was the &#39;Movie of my life&#39;.  It is a visualization method where you visualize going to a movie that is about myself.  I imagine sitting in a theater and watching my accomplishments and adventures on the big screen.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Overall a good book and easy to read. You see, the previous evening I had prepared&lt;br /&gt;and consumed a massive quantity of my patented &#39;You&#39;re definitely going to&lt;br /&gt;mess yourself&#39; chili. Tasty stuff, albeit hot to the point of being painful,&lt;br /&gt;which comes with a written guarantee from me that if you eat the next day&lt;br /&gt;both of your butt cheeks WILL fall off.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Here&#39;s the thing. I had awakened that morning, and even after two cups of&lt;br /&gt;coffee (and all of you know what I mean) nothing happened. No &#39;Watson&#39;s&lt;br /&gt;Movement 2&#39;. Despite habanera peppers swimming their way through my&lt;br /&gt;intestinal tract, I appeared to be unable to create the usual morning&lt;br /&gt;symphony referred to by my next door neighbors as thunder and lightning.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Knowing that a time of reckoning had to come, yet not sure of when, I bravely&lt;br /&gt;set off for the market; a local Wal-Mart grocery store that I often haunt in&lt;br /&gt;search of tasty tidbits.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Upon entering the store at first all seemed normal. I selected a cart and&lt;br /&gt;began pushing it about dropping items in for purchase. It wasn&#39;t until I was&lt;br /&gt;at the opposite end of the store from the restrooms that the pain hit me. Oh,&lt;br /&gt;don&#39;t look at me like you don&#39;t know what I&#39;m talking about. I&#39;m referring to&lt;br /&gt;that &#39;Uh oh, gotta go&#39; pain that always seems to hit us at the wrong time.&lt;br /&gt;The thing is, this pain was different.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The habaneras in the chili from the night before were staging a revolt. In a&lt;br /&gt;mad rush for freedom they bullied their way through the small intestines,&lt;br /&gt;forcing their way into the large intestines, and before I could take one step&lt;br /&gt;in the direction of the restrooms which would bring sweet relief, it&lt;br /&gt;happened. The peppers fired a warning shot.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There I stood, alone in the spice and baking aisle, suddenly enveloped in a&lt;br /&gt;noxious cloud the likes of which has never before been recorded. I was afraid&lt;br /&gt;to move for fear that more of this vile odor might escape me. Slowly, oh so&lt;br /&gt;slowly, the pressure seemed to leave the lower part of my body, and I&lt;br /&gt;began to move up the aisle and out of it, just as an elderly woman turned&lt;br /&gt;into it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I don&#39;t know what made me do it, but I stopped to see what her reaction would&lt;br /&gt;be to the malodorous effluvium that refused to dissipate, as she walked into&lt;br /&gt;it unsuspecting. Have you ever been torn in two different directions&lt;br /&gt;emotionally? Here&#39;s what I mean, and I&#39;m sure some of you at least will be&lt;br /&gt;able to relate.&lt;br /&gt;I could&#39;ve warned that poor woman but didn&#39;t. I simply watched as she walked&lt;br /&gt;into an invisible, and apparently indestructible, wall of odor so terrible&lt;br /&gt;that all she could do before gathering her senses and running, was to stand&lt;br /&gt;there blinking and waving her arms about her head as though trying to ward&lt;br /&gt;off angry bees. This, of course, made me feel terrible, but then made me&lt;br /&gt;laugh. Mistake.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Here&#39;s the thing. When you laugh, it&#39;s hard to keep things &#39;clamped down&#39;, if&lt;br /&gt;you know what I mean. With each new guffaw an explosive issue burst forth&lt;br /&gt;from my nether region. Some were so loud and echoing that I was later told a&lt;br /&gt;few folks in other aisles had ducked, fearing that someone was robbing the&lt;br /&gt;store and firing off a shotgun.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Suddenly things were no longer funny. IT was coming, and I raced off through&lt;br /&gt;the store towards the restrooms, laying down a cloud the whole way, praying&lt;br /&gt;that I&#39;d make it before the grand mal assplosion took place.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Luck was on my side. Just in the nick of time I got to the john, began the&lt;br /&gt;inevitable &#39;Oh my God&#39;, floating above the toilet seat because my butt is&lt;br /&gt;burning SO BAD, purging. One poor fellow walked in while I was in the middle&lt;br /&gt;of what is the true meaning of &#39;Shock and Awe&#39;. He made a gagging sound, and&lt;br /&gt;disgustedly said, &#39; Oh my God!&#39;, then quickly left.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Once finished I left the restroom, reacquired my partially filled cart&lt;br /&gt;intending to carry on with my shopping when a store employee approached me&lt;br /&gt;and said, &#39;Sir, you might want to step outside for a few minutes. It appears&lt;br /&gt;some prankster set off a stink bomb in the store. The manager is going to run&lt;br /&gt;the vent fans on high for a minute or two which ought to take care of the&lt;br /&gt;problem.&#39;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;That of course set me off again, causing residual gases to escape me. The&lt;br /&gt;employee took one sniff, jumped back pulling his shirt up to cover his nose&lt;br /&gt;and, pointing at me in an accusing manner shouted, &#39;IT&#39;S YOU!&#39;, then ran off&lt;br /&gt;returning moments later with the manager. I was unceremoniously escorted from&lt;br /&gt;the premises and asked none too kindly not to return.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Home again without having shopped, I realized that there was nothing to eat&lt;br /&gt;but leftover chili, so I consumed two more bowls. The next day I went to shop&lt;br /&gt;at Albertson&#39;s. I can&#39;t say anymore about that because we are in court over&lt;br /&gt;the whole matter. How many times have we made a goal and then quit when told that it was too much or too big a goal?  How often to we quit when are so close but just can&#39;t seem to get that last little bit?  What would of happened if we had just persisted just a little bit more, or ignored the detractors.  I like to call the naysayers, detractors, etc &quot;Monkey Chatter&quot;.  Seems rude but then isn&#39;t it rude of these people to try and stop you from reaching your goal.  For example, I have a goal to weight 180lbs, I currently weight 275, and I started at 297.  I have had some tell me that I will &#39;never&#39; reach 180.  Do I listen to them? NO.  I use what I have learned with personal development ant Weight Watchers. In the gold rush days in Colorado a man and his uncle had started a mine.  They had mined enough gold/silver to pay off the startup costs but then the vein of ore stopped.  They kept digging for awhile but then gave up and sold the equipment and rights to a junk man.  This junk man decided to get an experts opinion so he had a mining engineer look at the mine.  The engineer found that the ore would contiue on just 3 feet from where the man and his uncle had stopped.  This mine end up being one of the richest in Colorado.  If the man and uncle had just persisted a little further they would have been rich.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What am I trying say? Many more where on business leadership or management.  Only about half the books were fiction.  i found this very interesting.  So many people are looking to improve themself or trying to find something better in life.  I read the description of 4 or 5 of the books, all were based on the law of attraction, or desire and thoughts.  Everything I have learned from personal development over the years comes down to one thing, you are what you think you are.  It is all on my own, or yours, mental attitude.  How do I direct my mental attitude?  I use visualization, affirmations, goals and meditation.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;h2&gt;Visualization&lt;/h2&gt;&lt;br /&gt;  Using my imagination to see who I am going to be and what I want from life.  Once a day as part of my meditation I imagine achieving my goals.  For example,  I am getting married to a beautiful woman from Russia.  To accomplish this is not an easy task, the visa for her could take up to a year.  As part of my visualization I see us going to holding hands, cuddling, going to movies, dinner, theater, walks, and watching TV.  I feel her hand in mine, I can see us talking and laughing.  I do this everyday for at lesat 5 minutes.&lt;br /&gt;   Visualization can be used as a method of practice for situations.  I use visualization to practice calling people for my business.  I go over all responses and replies.  Then when I do make my calls I am confident and comfortable talking with them.  If I had a particular &#39;bad&#39; call I will go over the call again in my mind and use different responses.&lt;br /&gt;   Another example of visualization is &#39;vision boards&#39;.  This is where I put pictures and statements about my life and goals and display it where I will see often thought the day.  I also use my computer background and screen saver as a vision board.  My computer background changes though a series of pictures I associate with my goals, my fiancee, home I want to buy, car I want to drive, places I want to visit, etc.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;h2&gt;Affirmations&lt;/h2&gt;&lt;br /&gt;   Affirmations are short positive statements.  I use affirmations through out the day to re-enforce the visualizations.  These affirmations should be positive.  For example do not say, I will not procrastinate, instead say, I complete my tasks and projects on time and effectively.  The mind does not see &#39;not&#39; &#39;never&#39;,etc, only sees procrastinate so that is what will happen.  Only feed my mind positive thoughts and feelings.  I will repeat these statements many times through the day.  I say these statements with emotion and feeling because I know they will come true.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;h2&gt;Goals&lt;/h2&gt;&lt;br /&gt;   Goals are very important.  Goals must be written down.  My major goals are on cards and attiched to my belt.  I read and think about my goals every time I touch these cards.  My goals are written as if I have already achieved the goal.  By writing goal in the present I am convience my mind that I have already achived the goal and my mind will do what is needed to make that come true.  I have already writing about how to write goals and there are many good books about goals.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;h2&gt;Meditation&lt;/h2&gt;&lt;br /&gt;   I have only been using meditation for a few months.  I have meditation CD&#39;s and podcasts that help.  I use meditation to quiet and calm my mind. On of the books I read and try to follow is &#39;The Science of Getting Rich&#39; by Wallace Wattles.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;blockquote&gt;&#39;To look upon the appearances of poverty will produce corresponding forms in your own mind, unless you hold to the truth that there is no poverty; there is only abundance.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To think health when surrounded by the appearances of disease or to think riches when in the midst of the appearances of poverty requires power, but whoever acquires this power becomes a master mind. That person can conquer fate and can have what he wants. &#39; - Wallace Wattles&lt;/blockquote&gt;My take on this is that I need to think about wealth and become wealthy.  Then I will be an example for others.  I will use my wealth to TEACH others to get out of poverty.  I do give to my church.   I do not believe in handouts, just giving to people. On the other hand, if I am seeing prosperity, beauty, love, caring, charity, ... then eventually that is how my life/world will be.  This starts with myself. It was from my manager at my first &#39;real&#39; programming job.  I was a contractor for DOD, writing software for wharehouse tracking.  My manager had information/education meetings once a week.  When we first start on the contract the first meeting he told all of as to &#39;Never Stop Learning&#39;.  Does not really matter what to learn, just keep on learning something new as often as possible. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This fits in so well with personal development.  I have been involved in personal development ever since then.  I read personal development or self-help books.  When I found Liberty Leageue International and the Beyond Freedom program, it was as if I had been looking my whole life for it.   I am starting theBeyond Freedom program again this week. The main message of this move is never give up.  The moto is &#39;Keep Moving Forward&#39;.  I like the end where Lewis decides not to meet his mother, but to live for the present and for the future but to learn form the past mistakes.  For me learning from my mistakes has been hard, still is.
