With warm weather knocking on the back door, it’s time for San Diego to break out the BBQ’s, sandals, and sunscreen. Unfortunately, what many unsuspecting San Diego residents will also be greeted with this spring, is an unwanted bee hive in the structure of their home, or elsewhere on their property. When bees decide to move in and set up shop in your home, bee removal becomes necessary. In San Diego bee removal is necessary for several reasons:

1.) If honey is left to drip, ferment and rot inside the wall or roof, this can cause damage to wood, drywall, insulation and other building material.

2.) If bee removal is not performed within a few days of the bee hive extermination, the sweet honey from the hive will begin to attract rats, mice, ants, and many other types of pests. The last thing you want to do is turn your bee problem into a vast entomology experiment!

3.) Bee removal is also needed because leaving a honey-saturated hive entombed in a structure will call every scout bee from a mile around. When the scouts discover that there is no current queen or colony claiming the valuable honey booty, he will bring others from his colony back with him to expose the patch job and open up the hive for his colony. We have seen bees, in an effort to gain access to a sealed off hive, literally eat through caulking, expandable hardening foam and even roofing tar paper. It is important to have a professional handle the bee hive removal, to ensure steps are taken to make sure bees aren’t attracted to that area in the future.

If bee removal is what you need to keep March Madness on the basketball courts and away from your home, then give the experts at Pest Patrol a call. Remember, the inspection is free and we’ll even come out on the same day.

Thanks again for reading!

A Look Back At Some 2011 Bee Removals Around San Diego County

Bee activity in San Diego started heating up right on schedule in 2011. March brought some early bee removals in Valley Center, ordinarily a high traffic bee area.

In April, we performed one of the most extensive bee hive removals to date. Setting: Bonsal. Situation: large, two story, modern Spanish style home built with sofit-style eaves. This type of eave system, by nature, is absolutely perfect for hosting a bee hive. When all was said and done, we had removed 6 separate and distinct, very large bee hives from various locations around the eaves. In total, we estimated that we removed over 350 lbs. of honey/honeycomb from their eaves.

Chula Vista, especially Eastlake and Bonita, saw a lot of bee removal work throughout the season. We probably removed 10 different hives out of chimneys in Eastlake alone.

Encinitas, Carlsbad, and Oceanside had light to moderate bee removal activity, though one of our largest of the year was removed from a roof in the La Costa area. Rancho Santa Fe, Escondido, and Valley Center had record breaking numbers of bee removals this year.

Poway bee activity was moderate this year, though we performed our most exciting bee removal of the year at the Poway Community Church in October. The grounds are home to the oldest still-in-use chapel in San Diego County and they were preparing the chapel to be re-roofed when they discovered a bee hive in the upper-most part of the steeple. The bee hive removal required the use of a 60 ft. boom lift to safely access the hive and perform all necessary repair work. It was a pleasure to work with the good people of the Poway Community Church.

With a warmer winter this year, we are looking forward to another busy bee year of bee removals in San Diego. Remember, when it comes to hiring a company to take care of ANY bee problem you might find yourself in, make sure to hire the company with 30 years of solving San Diego’s bee problems. We have seen it all when it comes to bee removals and we are ready to immediately solve your bee issue in the most professional way at the best price in town. Give us a call right now and set up a free inspection!

5 TIPS TO KEEP THE BEES OUT OF YOUR HAIR IN 2012

If you have ever been on the landlord side of hosting a beehive in your structure or on your property, then you know when it comes to bee removal San Diego, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. And because bees have been known to build their hives virtually anywhere they can get some privacy and shade, it is impossible to completely eliminate the chance of a bee hive occurrence.

HOWEVER….

There certainly are many preventative measures you, as a home or business owner, can exercise to greatly reduce the likelihood that scout bees are going to find and SELECT your property for their inconspicuous hive.

HERE ARE A FEW SUGGESTIONS FROM THE PROS who have been performing San Diego bee removal for years:

1) With ladder in one hand and caulking gun in the other, make your way around the house inspecting the eaves and stucco for holes or other access points where bees could get into your roof or walls.

2) Be sure to keep your yard free of couches, luggage, and other debris that provides safe harborage for the bees to construct their hive.

3) If you drain your Jacuzzi for the summer, make sure the seal around the lid is tight.

4) Not-in-use chimneys should be topped with 1/8 in. mesh. Some of the biggest hives we have seen occur in chimneys.

5) Be sure the rim around your exterior can lighting is tight and fits properly. If gaps occur between the can light rim and the ceiling, it become a very tempting target for bees to discover.

We at Pest Patrol hope that these bee proofing tips will help you to keep bees from finding that perfect spot for their hive on your property.

If you are reading this just a bit too late, and you fear bees have already moved in, just give us a call and one of our friendly bee removal experts will come out free of charge and take a look at what’s buzzing, and what we can do to solve it for you.

Have great day!

If you live in San Diego and you’re noticing bees on your property, you’re not alone. San Diego’s bees buzz, swarm, and set up their hive right on your property or even in your home. And since bees don’t pay rent, they’re not likely to leave any time soon.

2011’s moderate spring and warm summer has brought a beehive increase to San Diego. At Pest Patrol, we have seen an increase in the demand for San Diego bee removal up 25% this year over last. Because this summer is warmer than the previous, the bees are working harder than ever to make every warm day count. Many people ignore a bee swarm or other signs of bee activity for too long, hoping that the bees will move on and the bee problem will take care of itself. Most of the time, this is not the case. Once you have a bee problem, it’s likely there to stay. After all, to a bee, a hive is its home. Doing a beehive removal correctly is the only way to effectively combat your bee problem.

Especially in the North County area of San Diego (Escondido, Fallbrook, Valley Center, etc.), we have seen a large increase of swarming bees that have multiplied and divided from their mother hive in search of a new residence. Additionally, as Africanized bees overtake European honey beehives, the general bee population has become increasingly aggressive toward any threat to their hive, their queen, or their territory.

Get the piece of mind that comes from taking care of your bee problem the right way the first time. Our beehive removal experts are knowledgeable and friendly. Call Pest Patrol Bee Removal for a free quote today. We guarantee the lowest prices, the best warrantee in the industry, and hey, we’re nice guys too.

Have a great summer!
San Diego’s Bee Population on the Rise is a post from Pest Patrol.
