Baby Zonkey - Offspring between a zebra and a donkey

Recently a rare donkey-zebra called a "Zonkey" was born in Florence, Italy. The parents who reside on an animal reserve and originally were kept apart by a fence. Somehow the male zebra could not escape the pull of cupid and decided to jump over the obstacle to declare his love to the female donkey.

The rest is history and their love child was born. The baby was named "Ippo" and now joins the rank of very few other zokneys who reside in Germany and China.

Greyhounds are such beautiful dogs.Slender in built but very agile this breed was registered for the first time with the American Kennel Club in 1886. I recently painted a small head of a beige colored Greyhound and thought it would be so cool to have it on a stamp.

Water Spaniel

The American Water Spaniel is a Spaniel whose roots trace back to the United States. It's lineage is traced back to the 19th century when a variety of breeds were bread in Wisconsin, which resulted in this breed. As the official state dot of that state, the Water Spaniel is still considered a rare breed.

These Spaniels are considered medium sized dogs, and have a double layered coat, which comes in a variety of brown shades with a dense coat. A versatile hunting dog with a friendly attitude, they are also suitable for apartment living.

Different Eye Color in Dogs

I find different eye colors in dogs fascinating. This little Shih Tzu has such different eye colors and such an intense gaze that I spend an entire afternoon taking photos of him from every angle.

Two different eye colors in dogs is actually rather common and often found in Siberian Huskies. Melanin is responsible for the amount of pigment found in eye color. Blue eye have no melanin and brown eyes have a lot in an area called stroma.

Having two different eye colors does not cause any problems for the dog other than receiving even more attention than usual. :)

Animal Trainer with Dancing Dog , a Bear and a Monkey

A whimsical painting by Louis-Leopold Boilly (1761-1845 Paris) was painted in oil on canvas and shows an animal trainer playing the flute as his dogs perform a little dancing routine. Interestingly enough this painting does not give the viewer any clues as to where this is all taking place.
Today we still might spot a performing monkey on the streets, but a bear?! It makes you wonder how many of the old timer street performers were harmed by wild animals they kept as they travelled from town to town in hopes of carving out a meager living as a street performer.
