The Deceptive Refrigerator Doors of November 2010 in Pet Society

The other day, Edmund went to the furniture store and bought a new refrigerator. When he got home with his new purchase, he discovered that he had been tricked! He had bought a set of Fridge Doors with no refrigerator behind it!

It turns out that the new Restaurant Kitchen White/Silver Fridge Doors in Pet Society are only meant to work with the extra room that you have to buy with cash. Edmund and Jane are of the opinion that this is a very dirty trick since many members of Pet Society are kids who don’t have much money to spend on games.

But since Edmund had already spent money on the fake refrigerator, he was determined to make them work. Edmund soon discovered that they fit perfectly in front of the Hideeni candy shelf that were recently in the stores (400 coins). The result is a charming vintage-style refrigerator! Tah-dah!

Jane chose to build her refrigerator out of the Wooden Designer Shelves (400 coins) from the furniture store. She also considered using the White Elegant Display (1,800 coins) which seemed the perfect size.

Another, though less attractive, alternative for those who no longer have access to a Hideeni Candy Shelf is the silver kitchen shelf (400 coins) that recently came out with the Restaurant items in the Furniture Store. Place the left one in front for a slightly more attractive arrangement.

There are innumerable other creative ways to build your own refrigerator in Pet Society. Backgrounds can be made of windows, curtains or fountains. All kinds of shelves and cabinets are available for displaying your gourmet foods. You can even build a tiny secret room for your pet behind the refrigerator door!

Trick-or-Treat to Save Money and Stock Up on Food in Pet Society

Halloween has returned to Pet Society and the trees in your pet’s neighborhoods are filled with candy. The candy you collect on your rounds of tree shaking can be:

Sold for 1 Coin,
Fed to a friend’s pet to earn 2 Coins and 5 Paw Points,
Sent as a gift for 1 Paw Point, or
Eaten for 5 Paw Points and 32 Health Points.

One thing that makes Pet Society better than the real world is that Pet Society candy is really nutritious! It only takes three pieces of candy to fill up your pet, and just two pieces will make him or her stop slouching.

If your pet has money problems (and who doesn’t) and needs to find a cheaper way to eat so he or she can afford all the expensive furniture and clothes in the shops, you should try to store up enough Halloween candy to feed your pet for a good part of the coming year.

Because you are allowed to have 99 of each candy, with 6 different kinds of candy, you can store up to 594 pieces of candy in your chest.

But there’s a trick to getting lots of treats. The more candy you have in your chest, the less you can get from the trees. In fact, the trees stop giving each type of candy when you have three pieces in your chest. In order to have lots of candies, you must work with one or more friends.

How to stock up on Halloween candy

Choose one or more friends, preferably people you know in the real world so they won’t cheat you.
Select one pet who will do the trick-or-treating.
Feed up your pet, turn off the music and toggle graphics to low quality to make your game faster.
Take your pet trick-or-treating (See this post on Promenading if you don’t know how).
Immediately send off all the candy to your friend(s).
Continue gathering and sending candies until your friend(s) have 99 of each candy in their chest(s).
Have your friend(s) send back your share of candy.

If you have a large group, more than one pet can be responsible for finding candy. When the pets who store the candy can’t hold any more, one of the pets who collect candy will begin to store it instead.

By prudently gathering Halloween candy, your pet can have a bigger budget for clothes and decorating. Be wise like the squirrels and start your food storage.

How to Make T-Shirts of Your Pet and Photos from Pet Society

We received the following question from Miki on our last post How to Make Charms, Jewelry, and Decorations with Your Pet’s Photos From Pet Society:

Thanks! I’m helping with ideas at my school’s new store. Have any more ideas like T-shirts designs or crafts? ^~^

There is a very easy way to make T-shirts or other fabric crafts such as handkerchiefs, scarves, etc. featuring your pet or a photo of your house, garden, etc. from Pet Society using Iron-on Trasnfer Sheets.

We have used these in the past with great success. The sheets usually come in 8.5″ x 11″ like regular printer paper. You just format your image on a Word or Photoshop document and print it out on an inkjet printer. You then transfer it to a T-shirt by ironing.

There are different types of transfer sheets depending on the color of fabric: light, color and/or dark. Be sure to select the right type for your project and read all the instructions.

A note about resolution: because Pet Society photos are rather small, your images may appear blurry if you blow them up too big. You may try “print screen” instead of taking a photo to get a larger image of your pet for your T-Shirt project.

How to Make Charms, Jewelry, and Decorations with Your Pet’s Photos From Pet Society

Do you miss seeing your pet when you are away from your computer? Wouldn’t it be nice to have a miniature version of your pet to carry around in the real world?

With shrinking plastic film (Shrink Art/Film) and an inkjet printer, you can make little plastic charms with your pet’s photo. There are white and clear shrink film. For this project, white is probably better. If you are not old enough to safely use an oven, please ask an adult for help.

Here are some of the things you can make from your pet’s photo and shrinking plastic:

Charm bracelet
Necklace pendant
Earrings
Magnets (just glue a magnet to the back)
Key ring ornament

To make a plastic charm with your Pet Society pet:

Take a portrait of your pet.
Use a graphics software to get the photo to the right size. Different brands of shrink films will have different shrink rates so check your package. (For example: if your film shrinks to 20% and you want a 1 inch pendant, resize your pet’s portrait to 5 inches.)
Now print your pet’s photo on the plastic with your inkjet printer.
If you will be needing a hole from which to hang your charm, use a hole punch to make a hole in the plastic above your pet’s head. You can also punch a hole next to your pet’s hand instead if you want him dangling by one hand. The hole will shrink when the plastic is heated.

Now cut your pet out of the sheet of plastic, leaving a white border.

Heat your plastic film in a conventional or toaster oven following the package directions. Never use a microwave oven for this.
You now have a sturdy pet portrait for crafts, jewelry, or scrapbooking.

To avoid wasting shrink film, fill the sheet with as many images as will fit when you print it. To do this, create a document that is 8.5″ x 11″ and import several portraits of your pet and your friends’ pets. Arrange the images, leaving at least a 1/2″ border. Do a test print on regular paper to make sure no parts of the images get cut off.

With some creativity, there is no limit to what you can make with shrink film. You might like to make a I.D. tag for your pet and wear it with a small cat or dog collar as a bracelet.

Too Poor to Celebrate Thanksgiving in Pet Society? Get Together With Your Friends!

The Holiday Season has begun in Pet Society! Yesterday we were all dazzled by the luxurious Thanksgiving items that arrived in the shops . . . and maybe a little dismayed by the price tags.

Every year is special in Pet Society and no one should miss out on the joy of the holidays. Perhaps friends on a modest income can work together to make a hearty celebration.

Here is how to plan a Pet Society Thanksgiving dinner (or other special occasion) with your friends:

Choose one or more friends or family members (people you know in the real world) to celebrate with you
Agree among yourselves which item(s) each person will bring to the party
Decide which pet will host the party and send the items to his or her house
Decorate a room for the party
Agree on a dress code so you will all look good together
Each pet can come to dinner and take photos in different parts of the room (laughing, dancing and having fun)
Piece the photos together (using Photoshop, Paint, or other graphic editing software) and you will have photos of all of you at the party together.

This year, Jane is hosting a Thanksgiving dinner for her close friends, followed by a bonfire dance in the forest at her friend Rupert’s place. Feel free to come to Jane’s house and take Thanksgiving photos in her second room.

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in Pet Society: Does Your Pet Have Multiple Personality Disorder?

Sometimes Edmund is seen entering the Stylist Shop and does not emerge for hours or even days at a time. Meanwhile, a dodgy looking pet called Rapscallion is seen loitering about town, living inside Edmund’s house, eating Edmund’s food, and hugging Edmund’s friends! How has this stranger taken over Edmund’s life?

Split personalities are completely separate identities living within one pet . . . each of whom may not be aware of the other(s). Even male and female personalities can exist simultaneously within the same pet. Has your pet ever come back to his house to discover that something is not exactly as he or she left it? Drastically different personalities can make a pet’s physical features so different that his or her own friends may think it is someone else entirely.

A pet with multiple personality disorder might express various aspects of your own personality. Do you enjoy going from “Modern & Chic” to “Punky” to “Romantic” and so forth? Maybe you have a boy pet but often want to buy girly things or vice versa. You can have the best of both worlds (or many worlds) with multiple pet personalities in your game.

To acquire another personality, simply take your pet to the stylist and select his or her new look: color, shape, facial features. Be bold! We are talking about more than a mere nose job or enhancement surgery. And don’t forget to change your pet’s name to his alter ego’s. Once you have purchased this new look, you can switch back and forth between your pet’s identities without having to pay again.

Edmund returned home after a trip to the stylist and found a terrible mess! He had no idea that two whole days had elapsed.

Fishing for Beginners With Demo Video

I’ll never forget the sight of my onion floating away the first time Edmund went fishing in Pet Society. Some of my new friends also had a little trouble understanding the fishing directions, so here is a quick tutorial with video.

1. When the fish bites, don’t get too eager and wait for the splashing to stop before reeling (clicking).

2. When the fish struggles, let go immediately and wait until all the bubbles have gone.

3. Reel when the water is calm

Hint: Don’t click when the line is red.

Promenading in Pet Society: Shaking Trees for Money

One of the natural wonders in your Pet Society neighborhood is that money literally grows on trees. When you walk about town, lead your pet to each tree and he or she will give it a good shake. A coin will sometimes fall out of it.

There are 38 trees in town and you may soon develop a regular route for hitting each one. We call this activity “Promenading” and do it regularly between visits, races, fishing and shopping. Activities such as jumping-rope, playing ball or frisbee, spending money and fishing seem to fill the trees with more coins. Promenades tend to average 10 coins, though the best we have had to this date is 19 coins. On the other hand, too many promenades without enough activity will shake the trees bare and you may only get 1 or 2 coins per round.

To save time while promenading, click on the eye at the top of your game to toggle graphic quality to low. This makes your pet go much faster through town (though the picture is not as pretty) and lets you earn money faster. You can switch back to high quality when you enter a house or building to enjoy the beautiful Pet Society graphics.

Fashion Faux Paws: Rock ‘n’ Roll & Gladiator Faeries

Albeit we, the writers of Pet Society Living, are firm believers in conservative and elegant dress, let no one say that we are without a sense of humor. As much as we love to be complimented on our pets’ tasteful clothing, we also take delight in surprising our friends by having our pets in a shocking or hilarious turnout when they receive visitors.

This column, Fashion Faux Paws, is dedicated to funny and adorably horrible fashion statements by Edmund and Jane, with an occasional highlight on one of their friends.

One classic fashion faux paw which never fails to get a reaction is the green mud face mask. This is true not only in Pet Society, but in real life. How easy it is upon hearing the door bell to forget that you are not wearing your usual lovely face. Isn’t that right, ladies?

This past week, we found a beautiful set of faerie wings in the autumn faerie egg, shown here with a white formal gown.

Faerie wings are a must-have accessory for every girl pet. But what if your boy pet feels that his inner self is Oberon (King of the Faeries) or a Valkyrie? Edmund has kindly modeled these shimmering wings for all the boy pets out there. First he tried the role of Rock n’ Roll Fairy.

Next with his Roman gladiator tunic and golden crown.

. . . don’t forget the sandals.

Finding Coins Under Banana Peels

When I see a banana peel at the stadium, I want to pick it up to see if there is a coin hiding underneath. This is fine when the banana peel is in my pet’s lane during a race, but picking up other pets’ banana peels can mean that Jane doesn’t win the race and we’ve lost 30 coins for the chance of winning 1 coin. Sometimes I pick up another pet’s banana peel only after he or she has jumped over it . . . though my own pet may fall down while I am minding someone else lane.

So we go to the practice races. The great thing about practice races is that there is no money at stake. You can pick up all the banana peels in search of coins. And even if your pet comes in third place, you walk away with 5 paw points. Practice races are also fun because you can take photos of all the antics on the racetrack — jumping, falling, etc.
