I have met a lot of top networkers over the years. Somehow the experience left me disappointed in the motives and moral focus of such leaders but this is not my experience with Raymond,Bernard and Pierre. Incredible examples of how network marketing should be built on solid relationships, trust and a business opportunity that has incredible benefits to both customers and distributors alike.

At the point of writing this post it is around an hour before I leave to present a blogging workshop for Kangen distributors and Global NPN Directors. My few days in Singapore have been a delight. Hospitality has been amazing and our joint experiences of success in Network marketing have been invaluable to a unique team of Online and Offline Network Marketing experts building a solid foundation and multiple streams of income.

But then, the cancellations started to arrive and I soon saw that many people just were so impatient to succeed that they never gave the opportunity a chance and ran off somewhere else, probably to do the same thing!

Now, you can’t resolve all of these problems, so you do have to continue recruiting, but the real money in MLM,Network Marketing, is in the retention. Keeping people in the system for the long haul!

Network Marketing Is All About Relationships!

Look at it this way. Think of it as your own retail business. If you had a shop, how would you treat your staff? They would be making money for you, right? So would you treat them nice, especially the hard workers? Most of us would, I am sure.

Well our network marketing downline are going to do exactly the same for you as your shop staff would. They will make you money if you treat them right.

I decided that the only way I could rise to the top of my MLM business is to be a really good sponsor. I would go the extra mile and then people would feel they have the support to stick around. It is hard sometimes. A lot of people joining my group are absolute beginners so it takes a little time and patience to get them to a position where they can manage on their own.

But I hearken back to my humble beginnings in this game. I really didnt have a clue! So I remember that and it helps me to find the time for the simplest of queries.

Let’s Start With The Follow Up

Now I am the first to admit, I started online network marketing because I really didn’t want to get dragged into bothering my friends, neighbours, personal contacts, and I certainly didn’t want to go down the brain numbing monotony and disappointment of telephoning bought leads!

So I was happy with my email marketing and responding by email. But then I find that things work much better when I talked to my prospects also.

SKYPE as a Support and Information Tool

So now, I offer my SKYPE i.d. to just about everyone on the internet! I get to talk to lots of people from my computer…. mostly they call me rather than me call them, and it works a treat.

I love skype. It is a fantastic free service from http://www.skype.com  It allows me to screen share. So this way I can show my recruits our system on their own p.c. or laptop and I can support beginners and experienced marketers alike by showing them how to do cool stuff that will help their business. This would include setting up blogs, facebook fan pages etc

This approach has been going on for about two years now. Whilst I didn’t have a lot of experience people understood that I was there to help them and now I have got people still with me that were there right at the beginning.

It pays to have decent email copy in your auto-responder to follow up your list. For my main opportunity I have over 30 emails all primed to upsell my business. Then I always intersperse these with broadcast emails with special offers, my blog posts and maybe a video or two that I think will help people get more positive or enthusiastic about the internet or home business.

I learned a little while ago that you kind of attract similar people to yourself in your business. So it means you need to be who you want to recruit. That’s not to say you should be faking it, but that you should just be a positive, supportive and driven network marketer and then you will find people just like you.

M,y sponsor taught me that I should broadcast emails in addition to my opportunity follow up emails. Offer incentives and unique advantages to joining you and your group in particular. What can you offer that others are not? How is your team the best team to join? Who is your sponsor? Are they some success guru who offers webinars etc? What is your attraction?

Finding The Need – Fill It

This is true of retention as well as sales. You find the need for your market and you sell people that you can fill it. That is the easy part. Once you have made a sale, you have to deliver!!

I get people wishing to change into my team quite a lot. It is a great compliment to our special group of people. But one thing is for sure, it is not the opportunity is it? The same opportunity looks very different when sponsors or teams work together for mutual success.

So if you deliver on the need. If you truly support your team, then you retain the willing and only lose the people who would never make an effort and expect something for nothing.

Business works with hard work. Yes, you need to set goals and make a plan,  but you are not going to get anywhere unless you put bags of effort in. That could be very part time effort and that is where most of us start, but the effort needs to be consistent and dogged. That way your team will follow you.

So if you make a promise, KEEP IT. If you say you will do something, DO IT! Your team will appreciate you for it.

Inspirational Quotes Don’t Make You Money!

I see a lot of marketers plastering inspirational quotes all over the internet on Facebook and Twitter etc. It won’t make you any money, or even make you feel good, if you don’t do something about it.

Keeping your team active is all about helping, supporting, training and delivering on promises. It is about communication and being available as much as possible. Reassuring.

Beginners in network marketing get discouraged quickly. If they do not see fast results then they question the opportunity, the products and their own ability. A sponsor needs to provide encouragement and do all that they can to ensure quick success for their new member.

For example, my online business opportunity only needs two referrals to break even. So we focus on them getting two. Then they get our products for free!

To start that process I try to supply leads for them to follow up. I provide them follow up messages. I provide weekly webinars. I am available to ALL of my downline on SKYPE. I provide one to one support as often as I am able.

This ensures that my team are ALWAYS somewhere in the leaderboards of my business opportunity. To stay there we need to ensure that we do not give up! That we continue the way we are, improving our strategies along the way, always moving forward.

Remember though, there are so many stories and true accounts of people who make the breakthrough just as they are at their lowest ebb. Just as Churchill has said: “Never give in, never, never, never give in“, when asked what was the secret of success.

You will have heard the story of the man who stopped “Three Feet From Gold” in the book “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, I am sure.

He tells the  man who found a piece of land that had promising gold deposits, After convincing some relatives and friends he managed to get enough money to buy the machinery necessary to mine the gold ore.

But a few weeks later, having initially hit some gold deposits, he lost the vein of gold ore. Desperately, he and his colleagues drilled to try and find the vein of gold deposits again. But to no avail. Eventually, after digging many weeks, he decided to quit.

He sold the machinery to a junk man for a few hundred dollars and went back home. Luckily, the junk man was smart. He got a mining engineer to come and look at the mine. The engineer made some calculations and showed the junk man that the person he bought the machinery from had quit just three feet away from where the gold deposits were. Had he continued digging he would have found the gold. The junk man had truly struck it rich and made millions of dollars in ore from the mine.

This story illustrates very well the Chinese proverb that “One moment of patience may ward off great disaster. One moment of impatience may ruin a whole life.”

So what is stopping you? Maybe nothing. Maybe there is something that is preventing you from taking the next step.

So many people give up before they make their break through. They go on to pastures new, too soon. This is the disease of network marketing. People just see the green grass over yonder and pile into something new like a herd of wildebeest on their quest for new pastures each year, only to find the same results. Most people enjoy a little spike, then it plateau’s and then the impatience kicks in. It becomes harder to get new sign ups and they look for something else and try to take their downline with them. This only causes disenfranchised networkers who begin to see it all as a scam, when it is not the industry that it is at fault, it is those “get rich quick” mentality entrepreneurs who just lack patience and are risk averse to sticking round for the long term.

This is true of companies too. No real resources behind them, guys start businesses from their laptop and then fail to fulfill their promises.

So what is the risk in staying where you are? What is the risk in sticking with a good sponsor and helping others to stick with it too?

Risk aversion also prevents network marketers from investing in their business. It stops them treating it as a real business because they fail to advertise and their prospects dry up because their established relationships do not enable them to duplicate their business. There is a need to invest in any business. Network marketing is no different.

Online marketing is a pretty cheap way of creating a worthwhile business, if you have the right tools and a true, internet based opportunity.

All you need is a blog like this one, a capture page, a facebook page and a few different strategies to market them and you are up and running. I see people succeed all the time. They are not especially talented. They are just using the tools that are at hand, following guidelines from their sponsore and they treat their business as a real business. Not a $40 a month business, but a business that should bring them a 6 figure annual income as a minimum.

Are you going to do that in 2 weeks? Not likely. Can you achieve that in 2 years? Yes, highly possible with the right strategies, patience and a willingness to take a risk by investing in your business.

So this post is just a reminder really. You CAN succeed with an online business if you really make your mind up and are determined to do so. You WON’T succeed if you are risk averse and lack the patience and determination of a really focussed business person.

Don’t blame the programme, you can make money with most programmes out there really. Don’t blame your sponsor, you chose them. Put the blame where it lies. Examine your own approaches and then put them right.

Blogging was a whole new world to me. It was set up for me by my friend, Barbie Figueroa, and she had to teach me how to post and everything!

My first efforts were basic and I soon found myself on a steep learning curve. I was thrilled to receive so many comments on my first posts until I realised that they were spam… so I had to activate Akismet and that offered me some protection.

It is difficult to know exactly when it all started to click. I had a lot of help and there was quite a lot of self learning too. I was very blessed to have willing friends and also some help from courses I purchased.

It cost me $1000′s!!! I still consider myself a bit of a novice to be honest but can now set up a Socrates WordPress themed blog, all monetised and with a pillar post for my Global NPN team members within an hour! I have done that lots and lots of times, even created a fully monetised blog live on a webinar a number of times.

How Has A Blog Helped My Business?

Well, it definitely has. That’s for sure. I am now regarded as one of the top leaders in my primary network marketing business and my business has come pretty organic with people opting in to my lists, joining my business with a lot less effort than was my previous experience.

I also encourage my member partners to join me as bloggers. This also helps my business, because the more they get involved with the social networks and create their own social networking and blogging funnels my business continues to grow also. That is the nature of network marketing.

Imagine: You have 2o bloggers all blogging about YOUR business. They recruit just 5 each. All of a sudden you have huge amounts of FREE traffic coming into your online network marketing business.

This is much, much better than relying on those affiliate links, company sites and static one page websites. It makes your business LIVE……. it creates a great organic social network that is working for YOU as well as those who you have introduced to network marketing.

What are the key lessons to creating a network marketing blog?

I made many mistakes with my blog in the beginning. I really didn’t know the power of WordPress and the ability it has to create a viral impact across the internet. So here are my 4 top tips:

1. Make sure you have a web form and bribe attached to your blog!

A WordPress blog is a powerful tool…. don’t miss out on the opportunity to increase your influence across the internet. Let your blog help you build your list!

2. Link your blog to the social networks – particularly Facebook

There are lots of applications and plug ins that will help you do this. I recommend that you link your blog to the Networked Blogs Facebook application – and place the widget on your sidepanel. This will enable your readers to get your posts direct to their facebook profile. A FREE plug in that has served me well is DIGG DIGG. This puts all the social networking  buttons you need on each page of your blog and enables your readers to share your posts with their own social network followers. Very powerful.

Ensure your blog content is posted all across your social network connections. I recommend, DIGG, Facebook, Twitter as a minimum

3. Content is King! Post good content regularly

I recommend that my team post good content 5 times a week for their first month. This shouts out to the internet that your blog is active and the search engines start to pick it up.

Content in your topic should be reasonably easy to source from your parent network marketing company and you can promote all sorts of affiliate programmes if you wish. The main content on your blog SHOULD NOT be all about promotion of your business or affiliate programmes.

It is important that you provide GOOD INFORMATION and a GOOD READ. This will enable people to get value from what you provide on your blog so that even if they do not choose to join your business, they will still find something of  interest in your posts.

4. Search Engine Optimisation

I am not an SEO expert but the simple way to get your blog recognised is to make sure you have key words relevant to your post, niche and business within each post in your blog,your post subject headings and  your blog title and description. The easiest place to get some decent key words in your posts is from the Google Keyword Tool . Go for long tail keywords or words that don’t have lots and lots of competition. It is better to get a higher percentage of a smaller traffic load than nothing from a very competitive keyword. Fore example: my main network marketing business is Global NPN. If you do a search for Global NPN you may find me on the front page of google – sometimes you won’t. You will find one of my team there always. Then if you search Global NPN Team you will find more of our team prominent on Google. If you key in Top Global NPN Team we will be even more dominant on the front page.

It is all a question of making sure you have the right kind of key word presence throughout your posts – putting a live link in some of your keywords.

Blogging Has Taken Me To The Next Level

I hope the tips help you. But for certain. I would have been a run of the mill, struggling to keep my head about water if it wasn’t for the learning that has been part of my business life since I have been a blogger.

I have made lots of business contacts and mentoring from sources that would not have been available to me if it wasn’t for social networking through my blog.
