Harvesting URL's is very useful when doing PPC marking on Google AdWords Content Network (placements) or Cost Per View marketing. Basically you provide the advertising networks what pages you specifically want your ad to appear on.

Obviously placing your ads on the pages (especially the first few pages) of organic search results will result in your ads being displayed to highly targeted traffic. So I put together this quick video that shows you how to do it.

Here are some pages from the video:

Well that didn't take very long did it? Roughly 10 weeks ago I wrote about why I was switching from my iPhone (which I had used for nearly 2 years) back to a BlackBerry.

Well, the other day I broke down and picked up a brand new iPhone 3Gs. I know, I know. I'm a fan boy I guess.

Truth is I love my Blackberry but I also loved the iPhone. With the new release of the iPhone OS (version 3.1), the addition of MMS support (finally!) from AT&T and all the apps I loved and really missed using, I decided to come back to the iPhone.

I bitched about a few things in my post about why I left the iPhone to begin with... The biggest reason was the keyboard. That problem is still there, although the new landscape support really helps - at least in the two places I need it most (email and sms)

There still is no background processing either, but with the addition of PUSH technologies it's sort of helping me forgive that short falling.

All of the other reasons I was burnt on the iPhone have been fixed. MMS, Copy & Paste, [what seems to be] better hardware, etc. have brought me back.

Here is a list of some of the apps that I quickly installed (and love!)

Awesome Note, Touch Term, Ping!, Twitterific, Sportacular, Sirius/XM, Brain Tuner, Currency, Flixster, Remote and Urban Spoon.

Got any other app recommendations for me?

blackberry, iphone, life, technology, crawling, at&t, apps

So I spent the weekend camping in Williams, AZ. My kids have been visiting their grandparents in New Mexico and we thought it would be fun to meet my in laws half way in Williams and spend a few days camping. Sure beats flying out to NM, picking up my daughters and then flying back home.

As if getting my kids back wasn't bad enough (kidding... or am I?) they decided to bring a puppy with them, which we named Titan. My brothers boxer had puppies with a chocolate lab and the result was 7 pretty cool looking pups.

Now the Grand Canyon was only a 40 minute drive from our camp site and my wife had never seen it before so we were off to check it out.

We got there and parked to check out some views, seen in the photos below (they aren't the greatest, I took them with my BlackBerry)

After a nice picnic lunch we wanted to take a hike into the canyon a little, and this is where the canyon decided to spit in the face of my new puppy.

Staring us right in the face was a sign that said ... "No Dogs" with one of those logos that had the circle with the line through the face of a dog. You know what I'm talking about right?

Needless to say young Titan was devastated! This was his reaction:

Poor little guy.

life, grand canon, puppy, titan, kids, hiking

Wow, I've been missing in action haven't I (at least on this f'n blog.) Sorry about that. I promise to try and write more posts but knowing me I'll get tied up with a ton of other things and put this on the back burner... like I always do.

Anyways, on to the actual article...

A few months ago I finally got frustrated enough with my iPhone that I decided to do something I had been wanting to do for 6 months or so... I switched back to a BlackBerry.

Of course, a few days after I made the switch the new iPhone 3GS was announced and I immediately regretted my decision.

So here I am, nearly 2 months later, the 3GS is already out (and selling like hot cakes) and guess what? I'm totally happy with my Blackberry. It does everything I want out of a smart phone and does it very well.

Here were my main gripes with the iPhone (and remember, I had one since they were first released in 2006):

How about the short life span for one?

My biggest complaint was the keyboard. It really was a huge pain in the ass for me to use that keyboard. I can't say enough how much I hated that keyword. Landscape mode was better but still not as good as my Blackberry Bolds keyboard. Yea, I truly hated that keyboard. (how many times can I use the word keyboard?)

Lack of MMS capabilities. God that drove me crazy. Especially since half the time you go to see your MMS message via AT&T's god awful "viewmymessage.com" site it didn't work. Seriously, NO MMS?

Ok, this is crazy. No copy & paste? Are you fucking kidding me? I "learned" to deal with it from the very beginning and I couldn't believe it still wasn't an option on the most advanced phone ever created. (Yes, I actually use copy & paste probably 10x a week on my Blackberry!)

No background processing. I would like to leave my messenger open in the background while I make a phone call or search my email. Not possible with the iPhone.

Those are just some of the reasons. Not it's not all bad. I actually do miss the iPhone, but not enough to switch back.

What I miss is the super easy navigation. Flick of the finger and a tap and I'm where I want to be. Oh, and the web browser. Hand's down, best mobile browser EVER! Blows the blackberry browser out of the water!

Even though some of my complaints are fixed on the new iPhone OS (ie, copy & paste was FINALLY added) there still is the keyboard issue, MMS still isn't supported though now it looks like it's an AT&T thing and still no background processing.

I didn't mind the iPhone's email client so much (though I wish it had PUSH support, which is coming soon?) but the Blackberry email application and SMS/MMS abilities are so smooth and efficient. Handling email on my Blackberry is so easy and it even catches a lot of spam that Gmail misses, which is cool.

All in all, I'm glad I came back to Blackberry. Oh, and Blackberry messenger is an awesome app! Too bad any of the AIM client's aren't as slick.

iphone, blackberry, smart phone, technology

Hey everyone. I know I've been quiet for a bit (did anyone even notice???)

I've been super busy working on an awesome project thats in the works. Looking forward to sharing that with you very soon.

With all the work I've been doing I am in need of a much needed break. I'm heading over to the Mass Control 2 seminar/event in San Diego tomorrow. Knowing me, I'll still end up working way to much down there, but still it should be a chance for me to unwind and get to know some new faces from the marketing community.

Anyways, if you're heading into SD for the event shoot me an email and let's have a beer (on me!). See you there..

business, internet marketing, life, mass control, seminar, san diego

Shocking right? As silly as their commercials are unfortunately there are a ton of people who fall for the gimmick and send in their jewelry, only to be totally disappointed when their check finally arrives.

I found this article today on ShoeMoney.com where someone claiming to be an ex-employee talks about the entire operation.

It didn't surprise me at all that they were burning people on the value of their jewelry, but what did surprise me is by how much. Pretty ballsy operation (assuming of course that the claims made are true).

I still find it strange that these sort of companies are able to continue doing business. I guess they aren't breaking any laws and if their agreement is strong enough, there is no real action that can be taken against them.

So on second thought, maybe you should hold on to that class ring for a while...

business, scam, cash 4 gold, jewelry

I put together a quick report and video that involves what I call "Trading Customers For Cash." Essentially it goes over a form of lead generation for small businesses.

With the economy being what it is this business model is doing very well. Business is slow so it's tougher for small companies to keep their advertising budget what it once was.

Instead they can spend less by paying someone like me (and you!) to help generate new customers for them. This is pretty easy once you know what you're doing. Also, if you're doing this right, you will be giving them highly targeted customers which should mean a higher conversion for the small business. Of course the new customer is getting what they wanted to begin with and you're getting a nice payday for your trouble.

It's a true win-win-win...

I'll let you watch the video & read the report. It's absolutely free.

Click here to get the report and watch the video.

business, internet marketing, lead generation, leads, Untitled, free report, video

The Perfect Business... Does It Exist?

What is the perfect business? I suppose there is no general rule for a perfect business because each person has their own idea of what that business may be. Richard Russell wrote 12 rules to what he thinks make up the perfect business.

I discovered this letter last year and have kept it for reference and motivation. Here are just 3 of the 12 rules that I think are huge facets of the "perfect" business...

1. The ideal business sells the world, rather than a single neighborhood or even a single city or state. In other words, it has an unlimited global market (and today this is more important than ever, since world markets have now opened up to an extent unparalleled in my lifetime).

9. The ideal business is portable or easily moveable. This means that you can take your business (and yourself) anywhere you want -- Nevada, Florida, Texas, Washington, S. Dakota (none have state income taxes) or hey, maybe even Monte Carlo or Switzerland or the south of France.

12. Super-important: the ideal business is one in which your income is not limited by your personal output (lawyers and doctors have this problem). No, in the ideal business you can sell 10,000 customers as easily as you sell one (publishing is an example).

If there was ever a time to build a perfect business, especially related to those 3 rules I just pasted, now would be the time. I've spent the last few years devouring everything I can find related to marketing (on & offline), copywriting, sales funnels, etc.

Outside of building cool software I can't think of anything that I find as enjoyable as marketing & sales to earn a living. I am slowly working towards my goal of combining my two "loves" into my own perfect business.

What are some of your ideas for a perfect business? (Yes, we'd all love to be a playboy photographer but that's not a very scalable business model)

Oh yea, you can read the entire perfect business letter by clicking here...

business, internet marketing, perfect, dream, richard russell

What NOT To Do When Learning PPC

Like all good marketing junkies I make it a point to subscribe to the mailing list of many other marketers that I admire. I like to read their emails, study their pitches, subject lines, etc.

While reading an email from Ryan Deiss promoting his latest product (Get Money From Google, which is an excellent product btw), I stumbled on this ad...

Naturally I was curious and so I clicked the add just to see what loaded. I found this.

Now I'm not trying to knock the poor sap who is obviously trying to learn Google AdWords but there is a good lesson to learn here...

Pause your campaigns until you are ready to go live with them!

business, dont do this, internet marketing, marketing, marketing, ppc
