Business has 2 functions and they are, Innovation and Marketing.

Your Systems are your innovation. Have you heard of a guy called Ray Kroc? If you haven’t that’s O.K. ’cause I’m sure you’ve heard of a little innovation he came up with a while back called McDonald’s. He looked at his “Business as the Product” and the franchisee as his first, last and best customer. In our world the “franchisee” would be your downline. They’re not interested in the products, just like Ray Kroc’s customers weren’t interested in the burgers, fries or milkshakes. They’re interested in the business.

All your prospect wants to know is “Does it work?” Given the failure rate of most small businesses you have to realize this: for your business to be a predictable success, your “business” would have to work, because your downline, if left to their own devices, most definitely won’t. Once you understand this you’ll realize that You need to create a “business that works” in order to sell it, one that works no matter who buys it. Do you have a foolproof, predictable business? A systems-dependent business, not a people dependant business? A business that could work without you?

Basically what I’m going to do is show you how to build your business like it was a prototype of a mass-producable product that you can sell on to other Franchisees (Your downline) and I don’t mean those corporate replicated websites you get. I mean from your blog to your lead capture system through to your sales funnel and then on to your primary business at the back end. Marketing presents us with a multitude of amazing challenges doesn’t it? But if you understand this one key factor, that, the customer will always be the starting and finishing point of all marketing activity, then you will certainly be heading in the right direction. Marketing is simply putting your innovation in front of the person who’s looking for it. Then he goes through my copier website’s marketing system, we meet on Facebook, we have a few private chats with that pop up chat feature. He asks if I can get some machines sent over, and one chat leads to another and BAM! He flys his guy out to meet my guy and now they’re shipping a container of Xerox machines form Australia to Singapore. All because I know how to use the internet to drive traffic, how to interact in a professional way on the social networks and how to do business with Real People. I want you to know something…

Everyone’s trying to sell you their “Free e book, Now With Added Love” or training course or lead generation program or whatever and it’s all good and well to build up your library but if you don’t apply what you learn in those books courses and programs you’ve flat out wasted your money and your time haven’t you? A common saying people use might be “Knowledge Is Power” but really it should be “Applied” Knowledge Is Powerful. What’s that statistic? Around 90% of people that buy these things don’t even read them or listen to them. And out of the 10% that do about 1 to 3% apply the information to their lives. What a waste!

When I first signed up to my business opportunity a little while back now, I’d been self employed for 3 years already. The way I learnt about business was from a guy who literally drove me from place to place for the first month or so helping me set up my legals and meeting my customers for the first time. He said Hi Dave, this is Peter Montgomery, the guy I told you about, he’s your technician now, so when your Xerox needs a service here’s his number on this sticker. (That we placed on the machine there and then). A whopping 14 customers. That’s it…

I’d set aside $15,000.00 grand to start that business. $5500.00 was spent on my Twin cab ute. (Pick Up Truck) Another $5000.00 or so for my tools, clothes, parts, laptop etc… and I had around $4000.00 in the bank to pay for rent, food, bills and whatever else came up until my business kicked off. Not really a smart move I guess but I was determined to never be employed again in my life! So…

My first 2 weeks went by and I got 1 or 2 jobs and I thought cool, people are trusting me enough to use me. I’m in business. Then I got the Chicken Pox. Now if you’re a kid and you get it, it’s no big deal, you’re itchy and spotty for a couple of weeks and then you’re done. For an adult it’s waaaaay different. It completely flattens you. I was the sickest I have ever been in my life. It hurts every cell in your body to the core. You’re insanely itchy, in and out of fever and completely bed ridden. It REALLY HURTS!!! I was in bed for more than 3 weeks straight with NO money coming in. NONE. And my bills still had to be paid.

That was a baptism of fire let me tell you. Finally I’m up and running again and person by person my business builds and I start learning how to be a business person. My mindset is being altered day by day from my experiences and my friend shows me what he knows and I’m loving it. The thing is though, it was all off the cuff, by the seat of my pants. I had no real systems. What ever my friend did, I did. That’s how he ran his business so…

3 years later I’m maxed out, I can only work so many hours, do so many service calls and make so much money. I have about 150 to 200 clients but I’m limited by time and space. There’s only one of me. Long story short I try more than 21 different ways to change my situation but because my “Business Education” was all modelled on the self employed way of doing business, my strategies were all limited too. I thought YES! that’s what I want and signed up on the spot…sort of, read this after you finish this article. I now had some valuable information to work with. Your Business Has Only 2 Functions! So What Are They?

Innovation and Marketing.

Your innovation would be what ever your products or services do better, faster, cheaper, longer, shorter or whatever than anybody else. Your role is to Market that innovation like there’s no tomorrow. Meaning put it in front of as many people who are looking to buy it as you can. Sounds simple enough right?

Well it is…sort of. The thing is that you need to put it in front of them before someone else does. (Your competition). There are millions of people out there with the same or even better innovations than you. So why would someone buy yours?

Here’s a little story about how people come first and business comes second no matter what industry you’re in. I’m a musician of 22 years or so and I’ve been buying equipment to help me realize my musical aspirations for all of these 22 years. I love to buy music gear! I Love Love Love it! I’ve never once had to be convinced into buying a single piece of it. I’ve bought gear from just about every music store in Sydney Australia and I’ll tell you something…

They never push anything on to me. They KNOW all they have to do is get me to pick up that guitar and my own desire to own it will do the rest. I’ve sold off a ton of other stuff ( “That I just had to own” at the time) to raise the money to buy a single item because I wanted it so much. I remember this one time…

I dropped in to ask about a $395 guitar pedal I liked and happened to mention how I love Fender Telecasters but I don’t like the look of the headstock (the bit that holds the tuning thingies you turn to tune it). He points up at the wall of guitars and says “Check that out”. It was a Cole Clark Culprit! Basically it’s Cole Clark’s version of the Telecaster only it has the best headstock (In my opinion) ever to be created on a guitar. As I go into a dream state he says “Have a go man”. I was like “Nah I gotta get to work, I’m already late”. As I was talking to him (he doesn’t mention the guitar again) my eyes keep being drawn to the guitar. He goes “just pick it up Pete”! I went “Oh alright”. I slowly took it down from the rack. It felt Soooooooo Good! I said, “I gotta plug it in now”. Long story short…

An hour and a half later I hung it back up on the wall, slowly backed away from it still all gooey from the experience and went to work. I couldn’t stop thinking about it all day. So I went home and worked out what I could sell to raise the money. Then went back to the store the next day with my deposit. I looked up at the wall and my heart jumped in to my mouth…It was gone! He said a guy came in and bought it about an hour after I left. So…

I ordered one on the spot and made sure it had the exact same specs as the one I played. The same wood, colour, same pick up arrangement. EVERYTHING. I had to wait 8 months before my guitar finally arrived. Here’s the video of this momentus occasion.

People love to buy things. You don’t need to be pushy if you have what your prospect wants. They want it and they’ll buy it from you if you just help them understand what it will do for them. I could buy that guitar anywhere. The only reason I go to that shop is because the guys there are awesome. I’ve been there when they’ve told a broke 16 year old kid “Yeah sure you can play the Gibson Les Paul” ($2000+ guitar) and when they helped him plug it in to a marshall stack or whatever it was then said “Turn It Up Bro”!

That is Awesome Customer care. When I told the owner Pete how cool that was he told me the story how when he was a kid he asked the guy in the shop if he could play the Fender strat and the guy basically abused him and said “NO that’s what you can play”! (Some piece of junk). He vowed to himself when he opened his shop that any kid will be able to play any guitar they want in his shop. He knows how a great guitar will inspire you and he also knows that that kid will remember the first time they ever played a REAL guitar was in his shop. They’ll buy from him forever. I’m tearing up as I remember how I felt that day.

Sometimes I drive past 10 different music shops with the exact same thing I want, on my way to visit my mate where he works to buy it from him. Why would someone do that? Donald Trump in his Think Big speech says one line you simply must pay attention to if you want to succeed in network marketing…

My head was swimming, 10 different things all going on at once. I’m in 3 different internal conversations, with my kids, myself and planning what I’ll say to my customers when I arrive. I’m making plans to order parts, I’m working out solutions to each of their problems and…I’m marketing, designing my new blog (this one), automating my photocopier business and talking to the web designers all in my mind and all at the same time. In Donald trumps ” Think big” speech he says to ask yourself several times through out your day, ” what should I be thinking about right now?” This question will get you back on track immediately.

The answer to this question for you right now is…Reading Pete Montgomery’s Blog post

For me at the time, I was standing at the kitchen bench and it was the first 4 items on the list below that I needed to be thinking about and in that order. My head was all over the shop and all I really needed to be thinking about was starting my day.

1. Making breakfast for the kids.

2. Kids dressed for school.

3. Pack their lunches.

4. Take them to school.

5. Call my copier service customers to plan out each solution.

6. Pick up my daughters new doll house bought on ebay.

As soon as I made this list it put everything into perspective and I was able to SEE exactly what I should be thinking about right now on the paper in front of me. My feeling of being hugely overwhelmed just evaporated. When you have a plan you don’t get sidetracked, your thoughts don’t get hijacked and you don’t feel stressed. You just give each task your undivided attention and let everything fall into place just like you planned. That’s how you should build your business too. One well planned stress free day at a time. You have your Big long term goals in mind right? Where you’ll live, the house you’ll own, the car you’ll drive. Do you actually have a plan of how you’ll achieve this that you’ve mapped out on paper? From living your dream life all the way back to where you are right now? Can you see clearly exactly how what you do today will bring you closer to your 10 year goal? It’s not about what you do. It’s about what you do daily. Here’s a basic daily layout that I follow to keep me on track. This particular one is from when I was setting up my Copier business website…

Day 16 of my 90 day plan on the 18th of March 2010

Objectives:

• Set up all copy and products with photos on www.ColourCopierService.com
• Set up free gift opt-in page copy with Video embeded and create the link in the aweber 1st email.
• Edit promo vids for ccs and upload them to youtube and tube mogul.

7 am to 9 am me and kids get ready for work and school drop kids off at school.

9 am to 9:30 make calls to customers with outstanding accounts.

9:30 am to 12 pm Edit promo vids into 12 unique vids.

12 pm to 12:30 pm Lunch and hang out with family.

12:30 pm to 1 pm tidy house.

1 pm to 3:30 pm Copy + products and photos uploaded to CCS.

3:30 pm to 4 pm Hang out with family.

4 pm to 5 pm create free gift page CCS.

5 pm to 9:30 pm Dinner hang out with family.

9:30 to … Do what’s not done yet until it is done.

Day 17 Friday 19th March 2010…………….

And so on it goes. This is how you reach your goals!  Daily Persistent Continuous ACTION…Set to a plan. What should You Be Thinking About Right Now?

Well now you know how to plan your work day, the next thing you should be thinking about is how to attract qualified leads and cashflow into your business without chasing your friends and family or cold calling, because frankly, doing this is frustrating and is no way to build a business. If I went around asking my friends and family to let me fix their photocopiers I’d be out of business quick smart because they don’t qualify for my time. They don’t have Xerox machines that need fixing. I use the internet and a proven internet marketing system to attract qualified Xerox copier service leads to my copier service business. Why do they request my services? Because I can solve their problems. Just about every single person you know isn’t interested in joining your business. The reality is your Trump Network business is really just a problem that needs solving isn’t it. You no doubt ask how do I get people to join my Trump Network business?

As well as a Xerox technician I’m also an Attraction Marketing Coach in the network marketing industry who specializes in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) strategies to attract fre(e) leads into my network marketing business (Not Trump Network) I’ll show you how to do this too so…

I know this for a fact because I used to be a member. Here’s the thing…

While they do give you access to all this incredible information and people, it is and always has been in business, up to the individual to create the success that you’re after. No one can be successful for you. This is great because it means anyone can do it and it means everyone starts at zero. It really all depends on what you bring with you to the table when you start marketing. People who have sales and marketing experience are at a distinct advantage. People who come from a recruiting background also have a lot to get started with. For the vast majority of us though, we start out completely green. Of course, no body has nothing to offer. Everyone has some kind of experience they can draw from before they join up. Fact is, when you’re thrown into the fire, only the people who have a real burning white hot desire to succeed will survive this process. You have to learn fast because you’re paying for this education month by month. $150 per month to be exact plus you also have to pay $20 per month for WMI and I’ll tell you now it’s worth every single cent. Knowing that you need to start making money because you’re spending it to stay in business will certainly put the fire in your belly. Here’s my take on things,

What ever you spend on your education is worth it. Some lessons in life are expensive and some are cheap. There is nowhere else in the world where you will get a such a complete business, mindset, marketing and promotion education at such a cheap rate as in the network marketing industry. How long does it take to become a qualified doctor before you can earn the money they do? How else do you learn anything worthwhile than from someone who knows more than you? That’s what CCPro is! A learning facility which actually provides you with a set of income streams to help fund the process while you look for the right people to join your Wealth Masters International business. You have your mentor (Sponsor) and you have thousands of others all willing to share information that will help you succeed in your business. Consider this,

there are many factors and barriers that will stop the uncommitted. Lack of money and or time, there are people who will suck your time away, jobs, laziness, being unfocused, family commitments, TV, and the list could go on for ever. The odds are not in your favour. Bottom line is you can sink really fast and just give up, go back to what you were doing and get what those efforts will get you or you can be an entrepreneur, learn how to put aside unimportant tasks and LEARN how to market effectively and leverage your time and money.

Sometimes unforeseen circumstances can come from left field and knock the wind right out of your sales. Your car needs thousands of dollars put into it to be fixed and not only this your other car needs the same. Your rent goes up by a hundred dollars or more and the money you allocated to your autoship payments while you learn the business suddenly aren’t there anymore.

This brings me to my decision to end my subscription with Carbon Copy Pro. While I love the company and the people in the community all these things I mentioned happened to me in a short period of time. I was an entrepreneur before I signed up. I have a successful copier repair business that I’ve been running for over 4 years now and one thing I’ve learnt is that you need to take the emotions out of money decisions. You need to take the emotions out of business decisions. You need to be objective. At the time when I made the decision I had a clear head and looked at all my income streams and with the emotions of an Ice cube, reviewed which ones were making money and which ones weren’t. The decision was simple.

1. If it makes money keep it

2. If it loses money cut it off.

3. If the cost is small enough and it serves an affordable, sustainable purpose keep it.

Even though CCPRO is a worth while investment it wasn’t making money on a consistent enough basis. some would join and then quit later on so I couldn’t rely on my team’s monthly fees yet to cover costs indefinitely. On top of that it was losing money. Not CCpro’s fault, just a fact. So I cut it off.

Here’s what I kept and why, The copier business is my most profitable set of income streams. It is a well established business with a large customer base so naturally it stays.

I have a subscription to Aweber that I use for both my marketing and copier business and at $20 per month is very cheap. It fell into category 3.

I have a subscription to the association of Better Networkers on Better Networker which serves too many great purposes to mention in this article and is only $10 per month so it stays.

Wealth Masters International is only $20 per month and is my Primary opportunity so it stays.

This is where things get really interesting, you see I also have a front end training, affiliate and lead generation system that I placed in front of Carbon Copy Pro system that leads people through a sales funnel similar to CCPro but very different in many ways. This system actually pays for itself via affiliate cash from various products it sells for me. My customers in that system buy from me over and over again and I use that money to fund my marketing and it only costs a third of Carbon Copy Pro per month. So it stays.

Making this important decision has allowed me to stay in the game. By not having that $150 payment coming out of my account each month has seen my account going up again instead of steadily down.

Having used both systems for over a year in tandem and in series, it’s my opinion that this a far superior system in many ways to the CCPro system for training up my team, generating affiliate commissions for me and leading people to my WMI business opportunity. When I ended CCpro I fully intended to sign up again once everything gets back on track and I still do. Here’s my criteria for knowing when to sign up again. Once my front end system can pay for all my subscriptions and auto ships including Carbon Copy Pro, purely from the monthly commission I get for sign ups to that system (Not one off affiliate commissions) ( You get $15 per month commission from each of your team members) for a full three month period, then I’ll re sign up to CCPro. After all it is a great training facility and provides a wonderful range of income streams. I love Carbon Copy Pro and look forward to the day I come back.

I share my story here because I know many other people will have a similar one and this is the solution that has worked for me. It might just be the solution you’re looking for to keep you in the game. We are entrepreneurs are we not. We never give up! Solution is our middle name.

I found out about his seminar while I was searching around on the internet for insurance, finance and leasing companies who might have second hand or repossessed Pro Audio equipment for me to buy. My plan was to sell it at retail from a warehouse and online from a dedicated website. This was my latest business idea that I was working on at the time. While researching and cold calling these companies I some how came across one of Peter’s websites (Basically a sales letter capture page) that advertised his seminar How To Build A $1 Million Net Profit Per Year Business. I thought to myself,

“That’s what I’m trying to do.” So I read every single word on the page. I think it was about 1:09 in the morning and you had to call by a certain time to get a FREE seat or something and I couldn’t get through to them. I was desperate to get on that seminar and finally I somehow got hold of someone and booked it in. So in 1 weeks time I’d be learning how to get out of my rut…YES. I started researching Peter Sun videos on the internet and checking out all the Peter Sun articles that I could find. This was completely new terrain for me so I wanted to find out what I was in for. Man the guy knows his stuff that’s for sure. Here’s what happened.

Some clever network Marketer used Peter’s name as a keyword and this is how I was introduced to the Network Marketing Industry. This networker showed me an AMAZING online business opportunity. I’d never heard of the network marketing industry before. I’d heard of Avon and Tupaware but that was about it. Every issue that I was facing in trying to develop my business, (Sales, distribution, storage, start up costs, Websites etc…) was absolutely covered, even training…or so I thought anyway.

I researched this industry like mad over that week and I singed up with the company that I felt had my best interests at heart, that had the best training and more importantly, the best mentor and I’ve been here ever since. I stopped trying to build a traditional business and now basically sell other peoples stuff and get paid. It doesn’t happen over night though. It’s a business like any other, in that you gotta learn how to market properly. Which brings us back to Peter Sun. I’ll get back to this stuff a little later and so

I went to the seminar the following week with a different bunch of questions that I needed answers to than I had originally. Originally I was trying to find out two things, How to build a new business from the ground up, and How to leverage my existing Colour Copier Service business that I’d been running for 3 years. Now, I had this whole new world of possibilities laid out before me. My head was spinning and I loved it. From no ideas to infinite possibilities.

At the seminar Peter and I talked in the breaks and at lunch and discussed my options. I’ve just got to say again how approachable and easy going Peter and Dmitri Stern (his business partner) are. They are just awesome guys. As far as my Copier business went the only real options I had to get me off the tools was to hire someone to work for me or to create a training system and train people to service Xerox machines.

It’s all about the systems you use. Both options were out of the question for me because I’d be the trainer and it’s basically an apprenticeship to become a tech (4 years is too long) Also I don’t want to be a boss. I want to train entrepreneurs to go out and build their own businesses just like Peter does. His main thing is business coaching and he is absolutely qualified. I was inspired to do what he does and the Network Marketing industry is perfect for this. The products and pay plans are secondary to the training and mentorship you receive.

To clarify, Peter Sun has nothing to do with the network marketing industry, his business knowledge, teaching and training in marketing is up there with the absolute best in the world and I often go back to the DVD copy of his seminar and learn from the great lessons on there. Sometimes the lessons you learn from one field help you to understand another field better. I would absolutely, without hesitation, recommend you go to one of his seminars no matter what industry you are in because you will learn an incredible amount of valuable information from him.
